joining us, i'm sarah simmons than afo u i'm laura evans. out on the streets the city has turned into a mass of protests and demonstrations all against donaldat trump. fox5 tom fitzgerald is life in cleveland tonight. tom, have things been pieceful for the most part out there. >>reporter: pieceful, but loudt we can tell you we were right ir the middle of it today. there was a park here in cleveland called public square.. what public square has turnedas into tonight is a massive stage for all different types of protestors who have descended on this city of the republican national convention is underway. take a look at at some of what f we were seeing out there on the streets this afternoon.this this is a gentleman who was carrying an ar15 assault weapon. now, this is legal in the state of ohio. it's an open carry state.tat there were other people likeike this gentleman from black livesk matter that were out there talking about their stories and police interactions

viewpoint with law enforcement. there were also people that were out there protesting for donalde trump as well. am of them getting into arguments, many of them getting into debates, but for the mostot part this remained pieceful throughout this afternoon. law enforcement officials who have descended on cleveland hopc it stays that way, but the protestors themselves will tell you they are out here to make a point to the delegates and totes the people across the country, especially back in d.c. i am. there are a lot of republicanseb that are here right now whoow don't want to see trump as the next president. some of the people i would imagine there are quite a fewfew republicans that are not even -- my enemy is my friend. i would say i'm here to convince other people. i think people in the conventio

throbber. police would really like to getl this guy off the street becauses of the way he pulled this off. the federal plaza, thats ' the dollar tree store behind me,e, basically what police are sayini is that this man hid inside a bathroom inside the dollar store. he waited for this woman to come in and when she did he pulled a gun. he pulled out some zip ties and then he bound her hands togethed and then he lead her into annto office where he demanded the keys to the safe.afe. let's show you now some video that the mount police release today. this video shows this gunman unfortunately you cannot see his face. police say he did have a mask over his face, but you can see he had a gun. he has the employee standing there, her hands are bound with that zip tie. he pulse out a red bag. he then gets the keys to the safe. he opens the save and presumably what he's doing, what we can see at least it

bundles of money out of the save and putting it into thread bag. at one point you can see both of his hands so that he actually puts the begun down somewhere or puts it in his waste. it's unclear what. the police would really like toe get this guy off the street.he although you cannot see his facs they do have this description oi him and they do want to see if anybody out there might be ablee to identify him. he's been described as a blackmail in his 30s, approximately five foot five five foot ate with a heavy build. he was wearing a white fisherman-style hat, black sunglasses and a black mask that covered the lower part of his face. the suspect was also wearing a gray long sleeved shirt and dark colored pants. you can see this video on our website, fox5 d.c. if you want to take another look at it. but again, cops would really like to get this guy tonight h.t if you have any idea who he might be, again, a real bold rea crime

was a new problem facing somee riders this morning. smoke filled a station closed for repairs this past week andek this here was the scene of the crystal city station in arlington. metro officials say the instance can department was not theartm result of a fire, instead it wa dust left behind during thehe recent tract work. the nearby pentagon city statioy was also effected by all that dust. crews wore masks to protectrote themselves from all the dusts while underground exhaust exh systems worked to clear the airr meanwhile traffic came to a complete and sudden stop in new york after a crane collapsed on the new tapanze bridge. no cars were hit by the crane'se arm, but officials say threeee people were injured when theirhr vehicle swerved in an attempt to avoid the wreakage. the cause of the collapse remains under investigation. the new bridge links new yorkork city to upstate, new york and has been under construction forn three years. friends and family were joinedjn by officers from across thethe nation to

one of the five dallas police officers killed. funeral services were held todad in michigan for officer michael cruel before movingic to dallas cell worked for the wayne county sheriff's office. the 40 year old was shot and killed during a black life's matter protest. the incident was the deadliest attack on police since september 11. the shootings of police and black men in texas, minnesota and louisiana have caused raciai tension and strides betweenetw communities and law enforcement officers. tonight montgomery county will hold a town meeting to discussdc the recent shootings. the goal of the meeting is toto hold a frank discussion betweenc community members and police top establish a better trust and figure out ways to reduce theedu gun vialen. tonight's town haul will be held at the silver springs building. a second meeting will be held tomorrow in

> he's only 11 years old but h1 is fighter and he needs your help. tonight at fox5 d.c. cares, meet jack creed on. he is looking for a bone marrow donor and because his is a unique case the search has been especially difficult. i saturday down with jack and his family today. here's his story. it's an easy summer day in the creed on house.cr jack and catherine face off in n game of twister.er. today the kids can just be kids. unfortunately it's not alwayst like this. jack has a rare form of leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, but his case is especially unique. because jack was adopted from russia we have no blood relatives and we're not exactly sure of his exact ethnic makeup. jack and catherine were adoptedd from the same
