into syria, was un success zest full. at some point, able to make his way down to roanoke. that's where tonight the fbi is investigating this horrific attack, one in which the suspect allegedly tried to behead one of his victims and they are also looking to the very serious possibility that this attack was inspired and motivated by isis. now, what we know is this from the roanoke police. he allegedly stabbed a man and a woman in an apartment in roanoke. those victims were seriously injured. witnesses said that authorities reported faruke was yelling alah during this attack. they believe he was trying to behead the male victim, a source close to this investigation is telling fox news tonight, that they are seriously investigating the possibility that this was a terrorist-related incident. homelands security analyst in d.c. tonight will tell you there are a lot of

questions about this, how did feruke get back into the us if he was turned back from syria. what if any contact did he have with radical islamic groups, how closely was he being tracked after he was turned away from syria? now, analysts at the heritage foundation, robin sim cox, tells us tonight, these self radicalized individuals in his opinion, and others, may be the most constant domestic terror face we face right now. >> are these radicalized individuals the biggest threat we're facing right now? >> well, i think that's certainly the most numerous, in terms of the actual body count isis can rack up in the united state, i still think it is the organize the cells they have control over we have the most worried about. what's most numerous these radicalized individuals who can carry out these simple harder to stop attacks

>> now, even more disturbing about all of this, police say they know of no relationship between these two victims and faruke. even more they say he fled the scene and the aftermath of this attack, those two victims were taken to one hospital, faruke turned up at another one where he was arrested. he's behind bars being held tonight. the fbi says they are working closely with local officials, and trying to work closely now to determine the exact nature of this attack. live at the fbi headquarters tonight, tom fitzgerald, fox5 local news. we are following developments from the district now, a woman was shot and seriously wounded this afternoon, during a suspected carjacking. fox5 marina is live in the northeast with all of the details. what can you tell us? >> it all transpired right at the lunchtime rush, just inside the golf course here on benning road. take a look at this video, because polce

the suspect or suspects were on that for that motorcycle riding on the bed of the black pick-up truck, inside it, a woman, who during that attempted carjacking was shot multiple times, transported to an area hospital in serious condition. at least one person on the scene was arrested. but as of right now, no charges have been filed, and police trying to figure out if this woman was being followed or if this was some sort of targeted attack, whether they new that woman, or what exactly happened that led those suspects to that victim. all of that, still being figured out. here on benning road, during the lunchtime rush, all traffic shutdown including the street car. but this afternoon the scene is now clear. that street car, back and open for business. live tonight in northeast washington dc, marina morocco, fox5 local news. new tonight, dc mayor muriel bowser has named interim police chief. peter newsham will

similar size in california. you can see felt by significantly fewer people. and until that is because the rocks out west are better able to absorb energy. the question now, could this happen again? we asked an expert here. >> an active size. we are expecting there would be more earthquakes. we just don't know when and we don't know how large. we could get one tomorrow. it could be a thousand years before we get another one. we just don't know. >> reporter: so you have to be ready, and of course you never know just where you might be. you are looking at video from inside the washington monument five years ago. just imagine being at the top when the shaking started. people were rushing to get outside. you may remember, after there is the monument was shut down for three years, and we have continued to see sporadic closures like what's happening right now. issues with the elevator mean the monument is closed through the end of the month. national park service told me today they

>> we can do that. the most common way that you will get hurt in a earthquake is by something falling on you, so what you're supposed to do is get underneath the nearest desk or table, i changed from my dress so i could demonstrate. grab onto anything you can, like table legs, so that's what you want to do. what you don't want to do is be next to anyone dose, because glass can explode, can come shooting out at you. and contrary to what i heard when i was younger, you also don't want to stand in a doorway, you can be impact the by violent shaking or the door could even slam on you. if you are outside, just get into an open area, open space, where laura, there is nothing on top of you that could potentially fall. >> boy, i'm just saying i'm surprised about the doorway, about the doorway, yes, growing up in california that's where we always went, to the doorway. thank you for educating me, lindsay, i had no idea. also don't put things above your head. >> yes, because it falls. i don't even like it anyway, i'm afraid it will fall

president owe became an appealing to all to help the flood victims in louisianna. he toured baton rouge today got first-hand look at the damage caused by the massive flooding in that state. he reassured residents there that the federal response to the disaster will be robust. the flooding this month is to blame for at least 13 deaths, and widespread damage. at least 60,000 homes have been affected. the president says more than one of 15,000 people have already signed up for federal disaster aid, but says the federal government alone will not be enough to help people get back on their feet. >> sometimes once dollars flood waters pass, people's attention spans pass. this is not a one off. this is not a photo op issue. this is how do you make sure that a month

monica cleary here with more on the political headlines you may have missed. >> funny, you're calling it battlegrounds state. but people are saying it might not be a miss race, talking virginia, and last week, i assured the viewers a pole where hillary clinton had significant lead over donald trump in virginia, and today, a pole out of roanoke college, it has very similar results. this time even a wider spread, hillary clinton has a 16-point lead over donald trump over voers in virginia quite telling if we go back to may, roanoke college did similar pole, and the two were neck and neck. so, it does show a significant change, but it is worth noting, there is a report that just came out, that said that in key swing states, a lot of new voters are registering as republicans, so, you know margins are unusual.

will deter people from actually riding. here's what one woman had to say. are you okay with the price going up a dollar? >> yes, because the service thav i get from uber is much convenient. if i call a cab to my house, it may show up, it may not. they won't call me and tell me i'm not coming.ng. they'll just say we don't have't any cabs in your area. when i use uber, they come to my house within three to five minutes. > all right. all so it's not just the riders who seem okay with this hike. also d.c. cab drivers, at leastt one of them that i talked to here along 18th street he didn't think i was a bad idea. he says, listen it's leveling the playing field.. possibly people might choose a cabin sted of that minimum fair on uber. take a listen. the business is there for everyone, but now that we have the
