>> right now at 10:00, tragedy strikes again on main street in ellicott city. a shop owner whose store was damaged during the horrific flooding killed while trying to fix up his store. what went wrong. temperatures near triple digits tomorrow across the d.c. region, could we break another record with the dangerous heat and with 15 anniversary of 9/11 attacks two days away lawmakers pass the bill for 9/11 victims and why it may not get president obama's approval right now at 10. >> and we begin tonight with that deadly accident in ellicott city. thank you for joining us i'm tony perkins. >> i'm jim lokay in for shawn yancy and tonight a sad situation to tell you about in ellicott city businesses trying to pick up the pieces during the devastating flooding early in the summer. this afternoon one owner was trying to make repairs to his business when he lost his l

lauren. >> tony, police are calling this a tragic accident. a 67-year-old man died. and they say he fell from scaffolding. people in the area tell us that they believe he fell into this stream, this area right behind his shop. his shop is called precious gifts and sits along main street. it's here behind me. today sky fox was over the scene around 3:30 this afternoon and howard county police now identified the man his name is john paslowski, devastating, of course, for everyone here and we have learned today from the howard county executives that on september 17, business owners will be able to access their shops. they will have three days to get everything in order and then on september 20, main street will reon to pedestrians to the public to foot traffic. so all of these shop owners have been trying to get things in place getting ready for the day, september 17 when they'll

prepare and neighbors tell us that's what john paslowski was doing. people that knew him were devastated and did not want to talk on camera. a woman from a neighboring business talks about what everyone has gone through since that awful flash flooding on july 30. >> it's devastating. and you know to look out and see his building and see his shop and know he you know lost his life tonight. this is our community. this is our friends. this is people we work with. everybody lost everything. this time on friday night normally there would be people everywhere. it would be so much going on and such a lively little city and to have this this quiet and dark it's just one tragedy after another. it's really is sad. >> and i want to take you down

this is old columbia pike. and we're approaching main street. where everything remains blocked off. precious gifts is the shop he owned with his family and it's right behind me here it sits on the corner. i don't know if you can see there's a mural here. people have said they have been coming to the shop for years. they recognize this mural of the old area here. you can even see if you pan up some of the stuff in the windows and all that. devastating for folks here. behind me everything remains shut down. but again, september 17, business owners will be able to access fully their shops and on 20th main street is supposed to reon to the public. that's the latest in ellicott city, back to you. weather now that was another story today. a hot day. we're in for another hot weekend. some relief could be in store next week.

the officer was having french fries when two women approached him. one started eating food and the officer first ignored the woman at first but when asked to stop she said she would be arrested for taking his food he said "you may as well take me to jail" he warned her again and when she took the food she was arrested. people they talked with today had mixed reactions to the officer's reaction. >> i don't know he needed to arrest her. that was definitely very strange on her part. i don't know if she was hitting on him but if anyone came up and took my fries i would be upset, too. >> this is like just coming in and eating off my plate that's wrong. that's wrong. >> you're okay with him aing her. >> yeah, yeah. >> it's a strange story. >> really. >> we tried to get reaction from the police department and police union and snoun talking

i keep nerve this portion and that helps my portion control. >> veggies, lien protein things of that nature. >> that's key to cutting it and sometimes you can add sweet potato or rice. but but i'm on a strict clean eating diet. i'm trying to keep that. and if you want carbs you can add oat meal. >> and a lot of things they say you want to clean your plate and if you put in this con tairp you're restricting yourself toll this amount. but, now restricting yourself with something like this is good. a lot of people maybe have done it a week, month, how do type up or keep going. >> you have to hold yourself accountable. i fell like people post so many things on social media. make a ten second video and put yourself out there and say i'm going to lose ten pounds in two months you'll get comments and likes and

stuff and those people comment ring accountability friend. some will be like i want to do this too. let's do it together. and you can work out together and get tips on food. those are the people going to be on the same page as you that will help you when you want to go eat a bag of doritos. those are the people that will hurt you. >> the other thing about pos posting on social media, when you're lotsing wait you don't notice it. if you look until the mirror every day -- >> right, right. >> you. >> your face, your face. >> you lost so much weight. that's a great thing because you don't know it's such a slow possess sometimes and feels like a slow process and feeling those good things hips keep going and you're like oh, my gosh my arms aren't flabby and you see those pictures use that for motivation. >> have awe tip around watching television chb the people watching television rights now

and i don't see lightning with this but i can't rule out maybe we get a light passing shower headed more to the east before the night is over. and hot, sticky, humid that is the forecast. and temperatures 83 at d.c. 82 baltimore this hour and 82 quantico and 83 dulles and 75 martinsburg and 79 winchester. and we've got the heat indexes that is currently into the 90s in some neighborhood and dew points into the 70s and 60s. when you step outside, it actually feels like it's 91 degrees right now in d.c. 88 dulles and 86 baltimore and 89 quantico and 92 degrees out of annapolis. so this is what we're in for as we get into the next 24 hours except we feel like it's in the triple digits. jet stream well north of is getting influx of warm humid air moving in from southwest. tomorrow will be a day it will be down right oppressionive

feel like it's in the triple digits. could possibly break a record as well. cold front off west. that will move its way through tomorrow and push that humidity out of the way. so behind this frontal system we will get drier, cooler air an i can not rule out what that front moving through tomorrow later in the day and early evening we won't see a popup thunderstorm or too two. and this hot, humid air mass is possible. ridge of high pressure take over and we get into sunday into the 80s. not tomorrow though. midday, 93. by the 4:00 hour, 97. hot, sticky and humid conditions. and for areas near the beaches, delmarva. they have a heat advisory in effect until 7:00 saturday. i would not be surprised if we see it moving east once we get to tomorrow as well. stay hydrated tomorrow. very important. we're light weight clothing and check on elderly friends and neighborhoods and make sure they're okay and turning their air conditioning on and
