and a monument tall journey. a man walked from washington state to washington, dc pulling his home on wheels the entire way. the message he's here to spread. fox 5 news at 10:00 starts now. we thank you for joining us tonight i'm tony perkins >> i'm shawn yancy. an ice cream truck driver is in critical condition after someone shot him today in southeast dc. >> the man was struck multiple times. police are searching for the gunman. fox 5 marina marraco is live in southeast where she says residents are fed up. marina. >> reporter: they are, tony because the violent streak continues in southeast tonight and take a look at your screen, you're going to see the ice cream truck and the bullet holes that pierced through the truck. according to sources, the driver was actually struck a total of seven times at least three time for the stomach and twice in the arm.

continued to drive away from the residential street up to a small strip mall on alabama avenue southeast where he was transported in critical condition to an area hospital. now, tonight, we spoke to a neighbor on the scene who says she's tired of the violence and wants to speak up. but she fears retaliation. >> i think we've become so numb to it that, you know, i have an emergency alert on m that if i'm in the neighborhood getting off the bus, i know if something is going on, you know, at night it's beeping all night. crime going on. it's really sad. >> we constantly gun violence in the southeast every single day. that makes no sense, mayor bowser. do something.

for southeast standards. you're going to go see these pictures on your screen. you're looking at the damage left behind after 75 rounds were shot into cars and apartments across several blocks. all of that happening last thursday. all of that in a five-hour time span from thursday into friday morning. and the city's most recent homicide happened right here in southeast ye marraco fox 5 local news. developing tonight, in alexandria pastor is behind bars accused of defrauding his congregation out of more than $1 million, pastor terry millender was arrested along with his wife and a friend. fox 5's lindsay watts is talking to a former church member who says this was a pas tore who was supposed to be praying but

a car hit robert gross man as he was crossing georgia avenue at regina drive. he was not in crosswalk. he was rushed to the hospital where he died. driver stayed on the scene, no word if the driver will face charges. new tonight at 10:00 police are investigating a case of animal cruelty in washington county maryland. a family's dog was shot and killed with a cross bow arrow. bronx was a therapy dog for the family's 8-year-old son. the dog was let last friday morning to go to the bathroom. about 20 minutes later, a family member found bronx bleeding on the front porch with an arrow sticking out of his chest. this happened along orchard ridge road in hasn't cock. anyone with information please come forward to help solve the case. more than a century now, the washington home in northwest dc served some of the city's most vulnerable residents including the elderly and the very sick.

congestion. sarah simmons is live in arlington with the latest. >> reporter: we already have the 395 express lanes stop right now back down that way. now, the talk v dot was having a hearing tonight to talk about extending it past where we are at shirleying ton all the way up to the pentagon. at this point, what they're talking about, the architects, converting the existing lanes to toll lanes and adding a third lane. they say it will cut congestion by allowing people the choice of lanes and will improve roadway safety. some who travel and live along 395 aren't so sure about this. >> v dot should examiner another, namely conversion of the existing two h o v lanes to hot lanes without the third compress lane. if that dog won't hunt. scrap those lanes altogether and promote transit

express lanes will accelerate urbanization inside the dc beltway and outer suburbs in areas that are presently rural. >> reporter: now, this also has triple a concerned about those commuters that are crossing into dc. what that will mean for them, because at this point, they say the plan looks like there would be no additional roadway or capacity on the other side of the bridge, and that's where trip a has an issue with that. >> most commuters problem with this project. in virginia. but once it enters into the city, which the city is already planning for, then it smacks commuter tax because you're going across the 14th street bridge into the southeast, southwest freeway. and on to 695 and eventually to 295, but you're not adding additional capacity. >> reporter: so that's the -- not adding lanes and being charged to drive on top of that. not something too many people

. loving is the true story of rich and mildred loving. they were married in 1958 when interracial marriage was still illegal. they were arrested challenged the law to the supreme court. fox 5 kevin mccarthy has more on the film. it's kevin mccarthy at the natial culture for the premier of loving, the first theatrical premier at the museum. the movie opens in dc on november 11th. i caught up with the cast and film makers of the movie. a very important film considering richard and mildred were married in washington on june 2nd 1958 which led to the landmark case at the supreme court in 1967, check out my interviews with the cast and film makers. one of the most powerful moments in the movie when they show that image, the end of them on the
