10:03 pm
i want to let you know that the updated numbers now we're going to get these on the board inrd just a short period of time. the electoral count at this point, donald trump with 150 electoral votes, hillary clinton with 122 electoral votes. if you've been watching thechin coverage throughout the coursehr of thious evening what you knowi the story that has developed iss that this is a much tighterhter raise than many anticipated. > here's a live look inside theafter its center right now in new york city. this is supporters have gathered tonight. this is where hillary clinton is expected to come oue thi later tonight as the results of thishs election come in. for those of you who are not familiar, theafter its has aas glass ceiling, which is symbolic as you know, hillary clintonno back in 2008 when she ranhe against barrack obama, she said she may not have won, but she put a crack in that ceiling. she is now trying to become thec first woman as president of thet
10:04 pm
they chose this particulars location for tonight. this is the trump/pence thaw party thattr will be taking plae later on this evening. this is at a hilton hotel in mid town new york where they have been quite enthusiasmic athusi certain parts of the evening as donald trump we were seeing red state after red state red state appear on the national map. now we are starting to see some difference in those numbers. but you would have to say most of the trump supporters very seeing so far this evening.ning i'm tony perkins along withins shawn yancy. i want to let a you know this veryy quickly. in terms of locally the district of columbia has gone for hillaro clinton as youne would expect. that's three electoral votes. maryland has gone for hillarye clinton as you would expect asas well. and now fox news calling virginia for hillary clinton. > in the meantime let's go to fox5's melanie alnwick. she is live in new york atk at theafterric center where we just showed you a few minutes ago.o. what is the mood there tonight?t
10:05 pm
tony i got to tell you it keeps changing because certainly there's nervous exuberance among supporters, but then as certainn results come back that show donald trump making this a much tighter raise than most expected there's a little bit of anxietyt thatle you can feel in the crown as well. but the anticipation alsoal building as we watch behind us, the crowd beginning to fill in. up there on the stage itself you can see those guess the honored guests, thehe ones on the back part of theof stage that will literally be behind hillary clinton as shehe takes the stage later. they have all filled in as welll we know that we are counting down to those big moments, whatever it may be, whether it is concession speech or whethere itec is a victory speech. hillary clinton will take thetae stage as you said under thatnder glass ceiling here. a lot of us remember during the nomination when they had that
10:06 pm
and s introducing hillary clint, that again is a symbolism that they are hoping for thiss evening. we know that most of the scheduled program has alreadys happened so now we're waitingai for a few last people here. senator kristin and katie perry and governor cuomo. that is all supposed to happento before hillary clinton is supposed to come out here one stage again.agai there's definitely a lot off energy in the room here tonight. but we just don't know how long long these supporters can keep up their excitement. i have a feeling it's probablyis going to be a lot longer thange those of us who have been standing here for many, manyy, m hours. > i'm melanie alnwick. back to you guys. >>reporter: i'll take it from here. we have been monitoring trump headquarters tonight just over j our shoulder at the mid townwn hilton in new york. it is pretty clear that thathat crowd tonight is enthusiasmed
10:07 pm
another set of numbers has been posted. let's talk about what has happened in? virginia tonight ar at.gind > out many of the polls that showed hillary clinton leadingol in that state were flat out in o accurate as to how close donald trump was able to close the gap in virginia tonight. hillary clinton under performing a lot of her own polls tonightos even though she has been declared the victory in virginia. but boy, the trump campaign gave the clinton virginia tonight. and not one frankly that they were expecting in any way. how did clinton do it tonight? well, we've been looking at thee numbers from the virginiaers department offr elections. you look at places like coils p county, youla go down the map to gloucester county.gl the great swath of the commonwealth of virginia, in thn northern part and in the southwestern part overwhelming tonight went for donald trump. how did hillary clinton pulledlt

replicating what mark warner din in virginia and what tim kaine her now running mate did inn virginia. building a firewall against that republican strong hold in the south and southwestern portions of the state bringing in arlington county, bringing in fairfax county, bringing inin loudon county, which has correctly predicted the president of the united statesas in the last four elections. loudon county tonight going for hillary clinton. the trump people were loong virginia saying maybe if they could get that into their column that could forestall any damage they were having if they werehey not getting one of those battle ground states like florida, lik, north carolina, like ohio tonight. again those three tonight very,, very close.ve anybody who thought this wasthis going to be a quick night wellwl they've got to rethink thatthat tonight now, but the trump people are keeping an eye onon this and they are hopeful thatel when donald trump goes to that podium tonight that donald trumt

madison square garden or one of the other basketball aremember as, but in fact they were havine it in a ballroom at the mid town hilton hotel, in a room that does serve am large functionsfuc for years, but frankly it was not the capacity that one would think that on election night that would be holdup by a major party candidate.ndid when it went in from all thehe major newso about 25 live trucks and news crews all jammed in behind metal barriers along the avenue of americas behind us tonightus because frankly the trump campaign rejected a large swathh of those media credentials andei didn't let them into the ballroom. probably not because of any, you know, nefarious means of keeping the media out.t. there frankly isn't enough room
10:11 pm
a lot of our colleagues, a lot of our friends they're stucky're down there elbow to elbow on the street right now and they're really not'r seeing much besidee the backs of a lot of new york city police officers tonight. certainly a lot of people in the media scratching their heads ati little bit. because you would have thought a big, big room with a loft media out there pa too close to call at this point. absolutely. virginia of course as you just mentioned, the swing state thati weng have heard of fox news is projecting going to hillaryo hi clinton. let's take a look at the electoral numbers, where we're at right now. we stand with 150 late for
10:12 pm
the magic number we need to beto at. as you mentioned big states like florida 29 electoral votes right there.th ohio, 18. that's where we stand. let's take a look at the balance of power in the senate. fox news is reporting right now is that we have 41 for democrats, 45 for republicans, 51 seats are needed for either party to have control here.re. so we have 14 play. let's take a look in the house now, if we could.ld. democrats sitting at 96 or 95, sorry about that, 142 for republicans. still need to be decided, 197ecd seats here. 218 needed for control. so things are still changing at this point.oint again, we are keeping an eye on the battle ground states as they continue to come in and things are really going to get

shortly tony and shawn. we know there are still a bunchc of key states in play in addition to the battle ground states. california 55 electoral states. that's a big one. which typically goes democrat. > when we return, we're going to break down the raise with our panel of experts. they are standing by. hey, guys. they look like they're thrilled to be here. someone get them some coffee or something. also as we head to the break we have some results other local leaders. barbara comstock holding onto her seat in virginia with 55 percent of the vote. a who thely contested battle with luann bennett. and let's take a look at the maryland us senate raise, chris van holland is going to take over for the retiring barbara mack encloses can i. the reven dumb on statehood in

night. we just saw trump lose virginia. how did you feel about that and do you feel still excited about hi es chances. >> i was disappointed but it still think he has a great shot and i think he's going to win and i want to say hello to joey. > i love this group of women over here. you guys look amazing.zing i think you were telling me you're a group of lifelong friends, is that true. >> that is true. > you don't all share the samee >> correct. do, but wet part we differ and we're okay with that. we have really good political banters. this raise, though, it has been so devisive. it hasn't torn you guys apart and you feel like you're a little bit closer maybe. >> for the most part. bit ihe m think he would have veryy intellectual banners among us and have intellectual july debates, but for the mostst part -- i think it's important for the parties to stop and just everybody get back on track for
10:18 pm
america and i think that's's what's important at this point. i definitely want to talk to you for a second.d. you are from the united kingdom. >> and you have been in this country for 20 years. >> 20 years tomorrow. > and she just got her citizensship and you just voted in your first election. how cool is that. >> how did you feel when youl wh cast that vote in this historicc raise. >> i was crying.>> > you wer ie crying? >> yes. tell me why.. it gave me chills when you said that. >> because it is important. i it voted for hillary and it's e first time that a woman was going to be elected. i was the first time i was voting and so i kind of connected with that and for the fact for the first time living in this country for 20 years i could actually put my voice onvc paper and say what i wanted. > thank you so much. i love -- don't leave ladies, i want t get a selfie with you guys. let me come back here because i was talking to some of the
10:19 pm
before we were just chatting. i want to ask you about the excitement and you said right now or one of you said not excited. what are you feeling.ng. >> i'm nervous. this is my third election. third time i voted i'm hoping for three for three. i don't know. i thought virginia would be coming in. hillary clinton won virginia.ino is that an good thing for you? >> i'm 3 for 3. i i'll get my third one in. you're feeling nervous as well. >> i'm feeling very anxious. i think this election and the way it's gone shows a lot aboutt where the american people are ae right now and we're at a real crossroads. the people have behaved it's been really destressing. and about what's going to happen irrespective of who wins.
10:20 pm
we come back together, what do you think. >> i think we can that's what made us unique and strong in the world. i think it's going to take all of us remembering who we are as people, what it means to be an american, accepting and just hang in there fight for another day. if you're candidate doesn't win that's why we're in a democracyr you can get out, vote and change things that you don't like but you do it in a civil and if you think about it it's kind of a somber tone that we're're bringing to you here. if you guys want we have another big group of people back here. look at this. so excited. what are you guys feeling tonight? are you planning to camp out here all night? didht you come here because you wanteu to get away and have a couple oo drinks or did you come here because you want to watch the results and this is really a stressful night for you. >> a little bit of both actually.
10:21 pm
happen tonight. >> i think secretary clinton is going to pull it out. > do you feel any sort of surprise at how close virginia really came to be? we were definitely thinking donald trumn could do it and that is not exactly what the polls were predicting. that.ou you surprised by >> definitely. we've gone democrat the past few years. so it's interesting to see how close it is. > she did win virginia.nia. we'll keep watching.tchi i'll be here all night. >> h obviously a lot of excitement but also this feeling of a little bit of tension and anxiety. > we're tending it back to you. > we want to go to our panel ol experts who are standing by right now to sort of get their take on what is going on so far. i want to start with mike lane, joe lien. we are now the at 10:21.1. how are you feeling now that
10:22 pm
close to call. >> i would feel a lot better ift we were at the end of the night and hillary had won. but right now i can't say what's going to happen. it's very stress tellful and it's not about the horse raise,, it's about the future of the country. > are you surprised at how close this raise has been so far, particularly in these crucial states of virginia, no. and florida.da. it's great that fox called itled for virginia, but i don't know that way.at i would think so. she's got her vice president in virginia. it seems like it shouldn't bee that close.at c > mike, what are you feelingar right now? e yo you're a gop strategist. surprised by what we're're seeing? a lot of people we've been seeing on social media, other reports this they're taken aback at how well donald trumplo is doing right now. >> no, i'm not surprised.. i may be toothing my own horn an little bit here.
10:23 pm
afternoon and i'm 100 percent accurate including virginia. we still have to carry north carolina and then as we move west we're still a couple votes short. i suggest everybody starteryb putting their eyes on nevada.a. it's going to be a veryy important state. > can on the phillips is also over there with you all. you've seen him at our 5@6:30 a number of times. cabot let's talk about one of about in the days leading up in the days leading up to the election, millenials, are they e going to turn out. if they are going t turn out who are they going to vote for. >> i was on campuses all week, all month really talking to students and the thing that kept coming up was this new e-mail scandal.scan it's being under stated how much of an impact the new fbii investigation. even though it didn't result in
10:24 pm
students said.stud they said i can't change my vote now. i think that the turnout was styled because of this newecau investigation. p ofe been wrong every ste the way. every political bund and the has been wrong. young people apparently they don't want the status quo and americans as a whole are looking for change and they think that donald trump is going to bring them change.ge we keep hearing this chant, drain the they want to drain washington, d.c. p. they sending a an answer at the also. > joe lien, do you agree with that? certainly the millenial vote was important, but do i think that millenials sort of are on that band wagon of drain the swamp p that we her from a lot of members in the republical party. >> i don't know about that.no iw think that my lenals want to make america love again and we'll have to see how this comes
10:25 pm
are, but have a hard time imagining that young people who generally are so identify listfy particular are really going to want to support someone who in the end are against most of the things that they want like a clean environment. > just to clarify i do hillary clinton that she did not haved the enthusiasm that she needed to create a big enough gap to help her in any of these swingng states. and i think that's one of the reasons why she is kirschner is ceo. the whole e-mail -- hold e objection to the form before wee get to that question.esti breaking news right now? >> hillary clinton has beenry called cli the winner of colora. fox news is reporting hillary clinton has won the state of colorado. that would be nine more electoral votes for hillary clinton as we're starting tortin head out west now.. and another big call just ast
10:26 pm
ground state of ohio has gone to donald trump. the key battle ground state of ohio has gone to donald trump.m. we've heard so many times that you can't get to the white house unless you win ohio and donald trump has won ohio. let me tell you this, it's with 75 percent of the precincts reporting in ohio, donald trumpp winning ohio, 53.4 percent to 42.2 percent. that is a sizeable vicary. you're seeing the reaction to that news now from party. this is in new york city. yor is that right? >> yes. > people are excited about this one.ted i'm going to come back to you in just a moment. let's go back to mike lane trump wins ohio. his path to 270 is looking a little bit better, wouldn't yout say. >> i'm cautiously optimistic. ohio was a must win. it has fallen in the must win. i confess the size of this win
10:27 pm
i certainly didn't expect it. i don't know any of my friends m who suggested thaty it would be that big. we need to go west. i'll mention nevada and one a other statend as a surprise plae to keep in mind is wisconsin. we'll watch that as the votes rule in. joe lien let me ask you, let me get your reaction to this trump win in ohio. >> this is huge for him. >> this is pretty depressing. i hate to have to say it. i'm really very unhappy about that. all i can do is continue to go west that hillary does better.. > rick kirschner i was startin to talk to you about this whole e-mail thing, one of the things that donald trump was hitting on again and again was hillary clinton couldn't handle her e-mails.e-ma she's not fit to have access to classified information and that this could very well be a national security issue. is this something that you thinu took hold with some of the populous?
10:28 pm
to our situate beer expert for you to handle that that. certainly we've seen hacking around the clinton e-mails, wikileaks, the dnc being hacked i think the good news today is a lot of people were expecting potentially a major hack. we didn't see it. so from a cyber security point of view, you know, except for donald trump's website that got hacked briefly this evening iefy the integrity of the system has been preserved from a cyber security point of view. let me ask you briefly we heardd all sorts of information leading up to this day about russians and hacking from everything froi everything from the d.c. to the clinton campaign. how safe is we? there was talk that they were trying to manipulate this elect. there is no doubt that the russians were trying to manipulate this election, but
10:29 pm
resources, pot nets, social media to influence the electioni but at the end of the day you cannot hack this electionctio through voting machines given the electoral infrastructure we have. i think we all can get throught tonight feeling better that our elections have integrity. > letty me bring in davidvid bernstein who is a professor at the khalilly a law it is very important we knowpo that there irts a vacancy righty now in the supreme court. how important or what impact would we see if hillary clinton, if all this starts turning around and starts going hillaryg clinton way and she's he elected we've heard members of the gop say maybe they'll hold up with grid lock and they won't help pass or give their approval to anyone that hillary clinton nominates. what will be the fallout from at
10:30 pm
court that was a 5-4 conservative majority. p if clinton gets in i anticipate she'll be able to get a fifth justice. that will have a huge impact on the court. i think the thing to look at not if hitry wins is how the senate is going. if they hold the 55 seats it may take a long time for clinton to get a justice on the court or she may have to compromise what she wants. republicans will maintain the senate is key right now. we're going to still see gridil lock. the breaking news that justt during the last few moments, fox news is now calling the state of ohio for donald trump. fox news is also calling the state of colorado for hillarylo clinton.rado according to fox newses current break down n inew terms of elecl votes, 168 for donald trump. 131 for hillary clinton.into >> stick around our coverager will continue right after this

10:34 pm
battle ground state is the vote for statehood because i'm going to use that vote to move us to phase 2 ofl statehood. donald trump is doing better than he should do, but he's not dog it because he's donalddona trump. he's doing it because of income equality and because people inoe fact are having to work two job in order to advance in america for the first time.me i believe that hillary is to pull it out because she hasn't promised the i am impossible. night is overhe you're going to see that they're going to elect somebody thatthat knows what she is doing. if we wake up in the morning and it's donald trump, will you work with hip. >> i will work with him. i'm calling on all democrats to heal and whoever wins we can't

their grandmother's wish come here. my cousin is here in from town visiting from oklahoma and it's my grand month ma's vote and it would always be her wish to see a woman in the white house. my cousin said to me we're going downtown. we're going to be at that momene when that possibility, whetherth it's announced or before it's's announced because that's whatt she lived for. > and like we've seenen throughout the night things just change in a matter of minutes,ne this very well could be the scene at the white house. earlier today the secret service tell us that there was a rally that was planned. that never really happened. nothing big like we've expected, but of course the night is still young.youn there's still about an hour to go, hour and a half and then the early morning time will tell how the crowds gather out here in the white house.e > thank you very much. we're goingha tnko y head to br.

donald trump is over performing, hillary clinton is under performing and there are some remarkable things being put outu there on the twitter sphereere tonight. just a few moments ago, tony, this came after you and shawn announced ohio going into the trump column. nate silver, the statistician known for the 538 blog put thisu out. i'm going to read it to you. he writes right now trump leadsp in both michigan and wisconsin. if those holds is saying tonight i do not really see a clear path for hillary clinton to win. that is a remarkable statementam out tonight from nate silver in the 538 blog. remember they had hillary clinton in the 90 percentile tee at the end of september to win this election. that was a slam dunk. they have donald trump tonight at a 55 percent chance ofnce winning this election..

both michigan and wisconsin? it certainly seems like the the scenario we're talking aboutout here is that hillary's window is closing fast and there arere multiple options for donald trump to get to 16 pennsylvania avenue. i think when i listen to joe lien talk about the issues thati were important to her and she'ss struggling with understanding why the voters would go in a different direction, those arehe not the issues that werere immediately important to theto t voters this year.s the issues that were importantt tower rascals out, drain the swamp. get rid of the establishment. this was above all, it was a change election and hillarylary represented the status quo.tus in fact, she had been called the secretary of status quo and donald trump was the one who pledged to drain the swamp. although the size of the potential wave that we're beginning to see here ise surprising to me, the fact thatf donald trump is in the trump in the position to win the white

for anyoneer watching right noft who is unemployed and needs a job i think you can go and appld as a polster because there'se going to be a lot of pollsters that are going to be out of work come tomorrow morning. donald trump spent a lot of time bashing the new york times. i think they're going to be pretty happy with them right now considering they're giving him a 91 percent chance -- up to a 94 percent chance as jim chimes this.es oftentimes the polls and what going to happen is oftentimesofe wrong. i think we're seeing that tonight and how it facts us moving for.for. if trump does come out, there'sr going to be a lot of workwork needing to be done on bridging the gap.th there is a great deal of divide and in devisive in that's going on in this country.
