a vicious conspiracy theory about a dc pizza shop grabbed national headlines and the shop was targeted by a gunman armed with an assault rifle. details on the suspect and a powerful washington influencers who are fueling the fire. this is fox 5 news at 10:00. but we begin tonight with a developing story. the 2016 presidential race ended. but this washington heavy weight may be eyeing the democrat ticket in 20-20 >> joe biden was talking with reporters and he said yeah, i am, i am going to run in 2020. the vice president said i'm not committing, not to run, i learned a long time ago fate has a funny way of intervening.

keep you posted. and now, to another developing story in northwest dc, there is a major traffic nightmare near the verizon center due to a sinkhole that opened up earlier this evening, i'm tony perkins >> i'm shawn yancy. it's happening right now on 6th street between e and h. sarah simmons is there with the latest. sarah? >> reporter: d dot is out here trying to the sinkhole. there's a plate they put down hopefully in the next hour or so they might be finished covering it up temporarily. 6th between 8th and e is shutdown, unclear when it will reopen. folks are walking around and causing a traffic nightmare. it's unclear what caused it. police say they got a call about this at about 6:30. let's take you to video. you can get an idea of what this looked like before they started patching it up. it's a block north of the

we reached out to d dot to get some sort of a timeline on repair, we have not heard anything back. i talked with a woman who lived nearby and got a call about the sinkhole and worried and came rushing home >> i got a call from the washington post that there was a sinkhole. i don't know they tracked me down. in front of on 6th street and i live here >> reporter: there has been an area when we're -- it's a residential building, we have 46 units. and there is when once in a while when a truck goes by, we hear a boom, this is a little farther, this is north. but quite a surprise. and scary. where is it in relation to your home, parking, garage, where is it really with the phone call?

rain as this moves in our direction. high pressure is supplying cooler air. what does that moan? we have to watch some of the mountain communities. we got wet weather advisories posted there because your temperatures may drop closer to 33, 34 degrees and there could be icing out there. right now, we're thinking west chester. that's a cold start for rain. we may find it brief period of sleet. don't be surprised about that. maybe you saw that sunday when the rain started. that sleep won't last long. it will change to rain. the mountain communities, especially the allegheny front, the virginia i lands, there are advisories posted. they begin at 2:00 in the morning, they will go to 7:00 tomorrow evening. outlet here, temperatures may struggling to get higher than 33, 34, 35 degrees during the day and that could cause a small

dozens of people raiding stores all at once seem to be there was one over the weekend. marina marraco is live if southeast with the details. >> reporter: this capitol 7-eleven has been hit twice this year by these type of thieves. a pack of thieves, the flash mob robberies. in this neighborhood, there have been a total of a dozen robberies of this type at 7-elevens since this summer, still no arrests.

was. >> reporter: it ends as a police pursuit into the tunnels of dc this weekend after nearly 30 teens stormed this 7-eleven and robbed it >> juveniles on the train, possibly headed towards the archives. >> reporter: no arrest >> you're going in a 7-eleven with 30 of your best friends to steal from a store? there needs to be repercussions. that's not yours. >> reporter: flash mob robberies the bear trove was hit once before this year. this played out over the summer. this one earlier this year, also in northwest. >> a flash mob robbery caught on tape >> it's not a new fad. a similar scene back in 2013 was also caught on tape. how many of these cases are being prosecuted

stealing a snicker's bar but i do that if you have intent and intending to go to a 7-eleven and steal something and you've asked your friends to come with you that something should happen. what 7-eleven told me is that nothing is happening. they're spending a lot of time working with npd to try to address the problem. people keep stealing over and over. >> repor attorney general said such a quote granular on the, at 7-eleven establishments could not be provided to accommodate for the deadline. >> we have to own up to what you are doing. you have to own to the fact that you are stealing from somebody else. why do you think they're not prosecuting these cases? >> i don't know. i don't know. and that troubles me. because that sends the signal to

the small businesses that theft is to be tolerated. you're to suck it up and assume it's a business and he knows. it's not a business and he knows. >> reporter: a spokesperson for the office of the attorney general said in a statement, confidentiality laws preclude us from speaking on. where the evidence presented to our office supports the charge where the evidence was obtained witnesses to the crime willing to cooperate. it should be noted in the majority of these cases, these cases are actually being charged not as robberies, like said in the statement but rather as thefts. thefts are lesser charge and the maximum penalty is 180 days behind bars. robbery. two years maximum 15 years behind bars. live in southeast dc marina marraco fox 5 local news.

shooting 50-year-old michael scott. jury members were unable to come to a unanimous decision after deliberating four days. the family attorneys say they plan to retry the case. a pennsylvania judge ruled damaging testimony given by bill cosby can be used at his upcoming trial. cosby is charged with drugging and molesting andrea constand a in a 2006 deposition, he admitted giving women drugs or alcohol before sex. he claims they were all consensual encounters but many of the women say they were not. cosby's attorney said he was promised he would not be charged. getting to the bottom of an unsolved murder. why a gop strategist is adding to the reward fund to try and find this man's killer.

to a disturbing discovery at a construction site in the district. an electrician's apprentice working on the massive wharf construction project walked off the job after finding two at the work sight. this happened last monday around 6:30 in the morning. he says he became concerned and quit when his immediate supervisor did not seem to take it seriously >> it was definitely frightening. being tortured like that, nooses, there's several black people that work there. i was feeling like i was being

backing down. biden would be 78 years old if he ran and won. the man who traveled from north carolina to the district sunday and brought an assault rifle into a dc pizza restaurant was ordered held without bond. police say that edgar maddison welch read about an online conspiracy theory that involved false claims about the comet ping-pong restaurant and child sex trafficking. he stand-off. a major traffic nightmare near verizon center after a sinkhole he wanted earlier this evening, it happened on 6th street between e and h. forcing police to close down streets. d dot is covering the hole, it's unclear what caused it. the much anticipated opening of the mgm granted hotel and casino at national harbor is days away.

the deadly warehouse fire in oakland california. firefighters are still trying to determine what caused the friday night blaze that a dance party. the warehouse had been converted into artist studios and illegal living spaces. former tenants say they're not surprised by the fire. >> it was like death trap. at death trap. it's a house of horrors. it was then. >> we have an attitude catch me if you can and we allow activities to ker and the owners

into the northern suburbs. it could be moderate. chilly today's high was 57. tomorrow will be lucky to get to the low 40's in many areas. some spots may not get out of the 30's. north and west i just mentioned pockets of sleet. are possible but advisories have been issued farther to the west in the mountains, the allegheny, front, the virginia high lands, be aware you could get enough of that advisory will go into effect until 7:00 tomorrow night. but the sun back boy wednesday. here's a look. 44 tomorrow, that's in the district. upper 30's with rain most of the daylight hours. by wednesday, 54. sun back. a little bit cool but it will feel a lot better. >> the rain is pushing into virginia. got the clouds around and again it will take a little bit longer for all of this moisture to get

that will do a good and efficient job of bringing us badly needed rain. painting in the area that could see sleet tomorrow morning as it begins. you probably saw sleet around sunday if you were pay attention. as the day goes on the and the low pressure gets closer, the sleet would be confined to the higher elevations and colder spots to the north and west. it could be a little bit of snow up towards pennsylvania. i wanted toho talking about and a half to inch of rain. better chance of getting closer to the inch appears to be south of dc. at 8:00 in the morning, the rain is pushing in. might not have gotten into the maryland. pink indicate where we're seeing sleet. yellow indicates moderate rain. by 1:00 everybody is getting moderate rain. you could see there was more pink in the mountains. by 6:00, the trying to swing on through. so that by this time tomorrow night, we should be down to just
