(upbeat music) hello everybody, i'm kevin mccarthy and i'm glad to be with you as you continue to enjoy the holidays. over the next half hour i'll be geeking out with you about what's in theaters right now, my favorite films of 2016, and also, what i cannot wait to see at the box office in 2017. >> i'll be geeking out about the films of 2016 ape what i can't wait for in 2017. first up passengers this is sci-fi romance with jennifer lawrence and christian pratt ep and it deals with a space travt cavling on 10 year journey and jennifer lawrence character wakes up 90 years too early from hibernation pod to try to figure out how to go back to sleep if they don't they die before the ship gets to next plan

film it's shot beautifully and chemistry worked and i love jennifer lawrence and chris pratt together starts sov strong. and really well done. it did not require that type of ending it became action movie but i loved drama and romance part ever more. i gave the movie 3 out of i five and then not worth paying full price and lover two actors and three out of five and basically c grade on scale. next up assassins creed and this is film starring michael fast bender based on video game franchise it's a new story though. michael fast bender plays leading character in movie who threw a system called anamus able

yu setting or during spanish inquisition and fantastic movie. and michaelle williams known for wire. i found it way too confusing i did not play this video game to me a movie that has to be well done has to transcend to all audiences not just gamers. i gave it 2.5 out of 5 and next up " why him" i'm excited about this brian canston and starring in rhawn. ing comedy franco's character is dating his dawts and he'

was hoping she would choose. the movie itself very, very r rated. i was laughing out loud the entire time again not for kids but it is a really funny film at times. michael key ton is great and griffin gluk as well standout performances and so many moments you will be laughing out loud. i love seeing brian cans nop this role. i was a "breaking bad" fan and i give it 4 out of 5. hilarious and again not for kids. next up with citizen sdel washington based on august wilson play. cool thing about this denzel and viola did this snow on broadway together. . denzel is directing the screen play and it involves a family 1950s pittsburgh as father strulings with trying to provide for the family and keep everything together and incredible performances

viola dave he is and denzel work tan this scene alone is great to see in theaters. it's intimate and important at times and i think the performances are amazing and viola davis will win academy award i think for supporting actress this year for this film. denzel will be nominated for best actor i think it will go to manchester are by the sea. and highly recommend seeing fences. timely hidden figures one of the most important films of 2016 and this movie is exclusively opening at regal gallery place christmas day in d.c. and couple other place around the country. but goes everywhere on january 6th. this is story of three african-american whom are main brains behind nasa first successful space mission specifically focusing on john glenn and it's beautiful story octave yaws spencer and music by farrell is

by farrell it's inspiring and emotional. i'm not going to lie i cried at the end. it's a feel great when you walk out takes story i can't believe was never told i knew nothing about the story and neej did cast members we'll hear from them coming up here. i give that movie 4.5 out of five. highlyly recommend seeing that movie it's a very, very, inspiring film by the way ferrell music every music he wrote are fantastic. you will sing them when you leave the theater. 016 another great year for me being able to interview holest stars. coming up i go one-on-one with a-list actors including denzel washington and brian canston and jennifer lawrence, stay tuned.

and i was very lucky in 20 sdlv that's a clip from hidden figures one of the greatest of this time. >> i was lucky 2016 to head out to hollywood countless times and avenue seas to europe and biggest starsn the world. last segment you saw me reviewing five films and now we'll show interview clips of the stars of the movies first up jenler lawrence and chris pratt i had a chance in los angeles for film "passengers" and the scene here is chris pratt delivering a note jennifer lawrence handwritten asking her to go on a date. it remind id me of 7th grade i would pass notes to girls would you go out with me circle yes, no, maybe. i wanted to know if jennifer lawrence and chris pratt had that same experience middle school and high school watch this. >> did you guys every deal with that in middle school and high school did you do the notes? >> of course i felt like there was art form to love note and

jobs. i had incredible honor of traveling ought the way to seville spain to recreate stunt scenes you're seeing in assassins creed that meant like diving off like fake building if you want to say that and also i was doing so many things, hardcore running and weapons training and very, very cool. i spoke to mike and fastbender and wanted to show him some footage that i got when i was in spain and i jokingly said i am trying to take role. this is his reaction. >> i'm actually auditioning from your role in the sequel. >> excellent. >> i went -- >> they told me they were going to replace me. i didn't believe them. >> nice, rollly polly. >> here comes the run on the rooftop. yeah. >> that's good come on you're scared aren't you? >> you're worried about it? >> yes. >> it's okay. >> i like the commitment.

daughter you can tell these are photos of brian at a younger age with his wrael child. i wanted to know how they did that. and how did they do the face swap and also are any of those photos of his real daughter? watch this >> is that really you with your daughter? like older photos of that? >> it's a mix. sometimes it's a real picture that i brought in with my real daughter and when she was a baby, baby it was actually her. >> that's her on sglooen that's my daughter with me on screen because it's a little infant and then zoe brought in pictures and sometimes we would replace my face you know with i mean we would put in my face if a picture of hers our put in her face in i apicture of minor something like that to tie it in. >> the film is very rhawn. y you saw james franco sitting there next to him he was not saying much there the interview it itself is in full on twitter kevin mckarmingy tv or fa

>> denzel washington being able to sit down with this gentleman one of the greatest honors and grew up devsh and training day and "man on fire" and fences was fully directing and starring in the film and he played this character on broadway and but when you wept back and watched some of the broadway footage in the broadway scene this particular moment you're watching now there was laughter from the audience because of some of the lines he was saying. when you watch in movie it's serious and intimate and in your face and i wanted to know why he thinks it plays differently in fronts of a stage audience versus a movie theater. listen to this. >> you actually answered when you answered question you said in your face. because now we're here. and see in a play you sit back five rose, 20 rose, 50 rose back and both actors like say you're audience we have

he has been all over the place it's incredible to meet him. fences is in theaters rights now also starring viola davis who was on stage with denzel when they did the play on broadway. august wilson play by the way. teragi is final interview clip you see hidden figures and i'm telling you now important film a film everyone needs to see it's a story no one knows. not even the actors behind the movie new the story. of course taivr yaws spencer and janelle monet play women main brains behind nasa first successful space mission including specifically john glenn and i spoke to henson and the cast about that and did they ever meet or know about these women. watch. >> quite a few women. >> when i saw the film i got teary eyed in the end knowing what these women had done. i'm curious before the movie did you know anything about them? >> no. >> nothing. >> nothing. >> i thought it was historical

highly recommend seeing it it will really, really make you think when you leave the theater. i hope people see it very beautiful and important film. next up "sing street" number four you may say i never heard this movie. because it didn't make hardly any money at the box office this is available on netflix by the way and "moon flight theater rz by the way" this is teenager that starts a band to impress a girl he likes. simple story. music in this movie is what makes it so fantastic. it's wonderful and catchy and director from "one" it's irish film and really wonderful film. when you hear the song riddle of the model, drive it like you stole it, you might not know those now once you watch the movie you'll be downloading sound track i guarantee it it's available on netflix stream put a big massive smile on your face. i love this film so much. next up is number three of year i'm going backwards i guess so

this noovry incredible. ryan gooseling and emma stone will win best picture at the oscars this year. no question, 31-year-old filmmaker damian gazelle who did "whiplash" this is as meiering mu circumstance playedly ryan gooseling who is really playing the piano he learned to play it for this role and originally were going to hire hand double but they -- he learned everything they have shots to pull out of his hands cool how they do it and emma stone plays as spiring actress this is five out of five in theater irz now prepare to see this win best picture at the oscars in 2017 next year. next up, "arrival" well this movie i've seen it twice now. this film makeer is unbelievable. prisoners, enemies, he is doing the next blade runner movie. i have not seen a bad film from this director yesterday yet this is amy

renner amy's khak ter is ling twoyingt try to transwhite aliens are saying and why they came to earth. ending is still blowing my mind. 7 week later. i can not stop thinking about this movie i've talked to my friends about it a long time it has best film score of 206 and i just really feel like it's a movie that sticks with you and that's does he fining quality of great film. all right number one film of year i'm sure you can guess it is "dead pool" to me it's why movies are great. this is movie made on lower budget considering superhero again ra and necessity is mother of invention. so many things were done because of lesser budget. it's brilliant, funny, action packed, passion project from ryan reynolds who plays dead pool in the movie and it's a movie that works. the rewatchbility on this movie is amazing i seen it eight or

in 2017 obviously justice league will be on the list. getting that shortly first up christopher nolan is back with done kirk the world war ii film i can got see this direct ited by mr. christopher nolan. you know him from small films like dark knight and upception and dark knight rises and interstellar and this looks incredible. i saw full i max trailer for it before star wars rogue 1. over 100 minutes of movie will number 7 0 millimeter film and this opens up on july 21, 2017. and it will be awesome. next up justice league you saw that in the last one we bumped into opens never 17 zach snyder i was a big fan of batman versus superman it was critically demolished but i love ultimate addition of of the movie fantastic, well made superhero film i love the castsing for flash of esra miller
