people enrolled in health insurance as the future of the affordable care act is up in the air now. the news at 10:00 it starts now. high everyone, hope you're enjoying your weekends, i'm matt ackland. >> i'm lauren demarco. we start with the forecast it, has been a gloomy, soggy saturday in the district, here's a live look outside. earlier we saw freezing rain, sleet, might even still see some rain depending on where you live. >> but plane ugly this evening. let's start with gwen tonight t has been ugly all day today, rainy, cold. what's it looking like tomorrow. >> tomorrow we will see a lot more in terms of sunshine. so that's at least some good news. but, once we get into tomorrow night, heading toward the overnight hours, have few light showers. but, meantime, let's take a look at radar, give awe look what's going on right now. we did have some sleet and freezing rain, most that far has moved its way out now. anything lingering will be close to the mason-dixon line, into areas of the northwest, where temperatures are a little bit colder. we really

this freezing rain and sleet today. the temperatures were just not conducive enough to be able to produce anything in terms of any snow across the area, except for areas to the far northwest, in the higher elevations so we ended up actually as with the day progress, more rain full, things start today warm up little bit. still have winter weather advisory and freezing rain advisories in effect until 11:00 in the areas you see shaded here. once again, to the north and to the northwest primarily. and we'll see that ending pretty soon and change to go all rain. temperature wise, right now we're into the 30's everywhere across the board. that's where we anticipate being tonight for your overnight lotion. and the forecast calling for light rain and drizzle, cold, into the low 30's for the most part, winds from the north at about 5 miles an hour, but the sun will be in tomorrow for a good bit at least, i'll let you know how long that will stick around, but we have warm up on the way, as well. i'll let you know when those temperatures will start to rise in the full seven day

forecast, lauren? >> thank you. tonight, president-elect donald trump is feuding with civil rights icon, congressman john lewis. trump tweeted about lewis after the congressman said he did not consider trump a legitimate president. fox5 lindsay watts is live in northwest, with reaction, lindsey, this is getting a lot of attention. >> reporter: lauren, a loft of attention, also strong feelings on both sides of. >> this we have been talking to people here in d.c. tonight. i want to start by showing you donald trump's tweets. he says congressman john lewis do spend more time on fixing and helping his district, in horrible shape and fall apart, not to mention crime infested, rather than falsely complaining about the election results. all talk, talk, talk. no action or result. sad. then later tonight, this. congressman john lewis could finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner cities of the us. i can use all of the help i

can get. in comes after lewis who represents georgia, said in a interview that he doesn't feel trump is a legitimate president because of the russian hacking. he also says he will not attends trump's inch ago ration next week. all of this playing out on day when we saw hundreds of civil rights protesters here in the district, of course, the weekend before martin luther king day, many defending lewis say trump was out of line specially in saying that lewis is all talk no action. lewis is a civil rights icon. he was one of the freedom riders, waist repeatedly beaten and arrest the while protesting, seriously injured marching, captured in a photo. on the other side, though, people defending trump say lewis should respect the election ruts. that isn't legitimate only causes a deeper divide in the country. in d.c. tonight, people are weighing in on lewis' statements, but first, on trump's tweets. >> i was pretty like discussed, because it was wrong for him to

today. he says, to john lewis, one of my heroes, please come to the inauguration, it isn't about a man, it is a celebration of peaceful transfer of power. back here live, now, you may know that john lewis was instrumental in getting this museum built. the national museum of natural museum and culture. there are reports tonight that donald trump plans to visit this museum monday for mlk day. we reached out to trump transition team to try to verify. that will i haven't heard anything back tonight. but of course we will continue to keep you posted on the president-elect possible visit here. live in northwest, lindsey watts, fox5 local news. >> developing tonight, the attorney for dc sniper lee boy malvo is asking that a judge toss out his life sentence. malvo was convicted in the 2002 shoot that killed ten people in the dc metro area. he was 17 at the time.

malvo's lawyer argues the mandatory life sentence is illegal because the supreme court determines such sentences are unconstitutional for juveniles. the motion was filed yesterday, in a maryland court. malvo's partner in the shootings was executed back in 2009. >> prince georges county police are still searching for a student who shot another student near suitland high school on friday. investigators say, a group of kids left school property and ended up at an apartment complex behind a school. a fight broke out, and one student shot another in the leg. the victim was taken to the hospital. but is expected to be okay. police want to hear from anyone who has any office this case. >> the investigation continues tonight into that devastating house fire in baltimore that killed six children. fire officials not released the cause yet, but say the flames could have been sparked by a space heater. investigators are interviewing a eight year old who made it out of the house alive. two other sin links, and children's mother, also

though were critically injured. >> although the future -- the future of the affordable care act is uncertain, dc health link is working to get people involved in health insurance for 2017. they're holding event and health fares at barber shops, schools, community centers to let people know open enrollment is still available. people can sign up through january 17th for coverage beginning on february 1st. and the final deadline for signing up for health insurance is january 31st. that coverage would begin on march 1st. >> he says the best time because right now we're in a state of flux, we don't exactly what will happen in the future. we know right now they can still enroll. we are trying to reach the hardest of the hard to reach right now. so trying to find those persons who are still un enrolled, that's really the key. >> eligible district resident can enroll in a health insurance plan on line at dc health link.

medical recoverage from more than 20 million americans. >> republicans are calling this move a critical first step to repealing and replacing obamacare watch they've done, they've essentially made any future legislation about the affordable care act immune to democratic filibuster in the senate. now shall that's critical, because it takes 60 votes to end filibusters and republicans only have 52 seats in the senate. when the house voted yesterday, it was a near party line vote, 227 to 198, only nine house republicans voted against this budget measure, while no democrats voted for it. since the senate passed the same measure a day earlier, this clears the way for vote to repeal obamacare once president-elect trump takes office. >> every mandate, every regulation, every single tax, has to go, then we'll have a chance to have the market work, and that's part of the replacement simply getting rid of the repeal, getting rid of obamacare with repeal so you can have a market work and bring down

headed off to the northwest. we did anticipate seeing that for most of you. some did have to deal with rain, and sleet, north and northwest. right now we still have freezing rain advisory, winter weather advisory advisory in effect until 11:00 in the areas you see shaded there on our map. right now, 36 degrees, in the district. we have winds from the east southeast at 5 miles an hour, under mostly cloudy skies. little bit of light rain and drizzle. that will start to gradually taper off. and today's highs, actually, into the 40's. tonight we are talking temperatures into the 30's. but, it wasn't too bad, pretty close to where we should be in terms of seasonal temperatures overall. >> as we take a look ahead for the next couple of days, here's what we're talking about. 46 degrees for tomorrow. it will be on the cool side. mostly sunny skies, we will have ridge of high pressure influencing us. so

this oak tree, which the family says is around 200 years old. and in the weight of the snow the trunk split right down the middle. now they are thinking nine year old brady for his very quick thinking. at first glance, it is easy to miss the house burried underneath this century old oak. >> we start today hear rumbling like an earthquake. >> for the mcmullen family in vancouver, the hero this story is the year old brady. he was enjoying a rare snow day at home wednesday morning, playing games with his little sister, lane i. you can imagine, what happened next. >> the whole thing, the roof, just was breaking. i heard like crashing and snow and branches falling on the rough little by little. >> the trunk that far enormous tree in their backyard split right down the middle of the half of the oak came crashing onto their home. the other half onto neighbor's shed across the fence. in

excuse me. and tonight we are going to continue to see that across the area. the light rain continuing, the drizzle, you know, just be prepared. dreary, definitely, it was dreary today. we will have a big difference tomorrow, though, as we start to see the clouds clear out. we get some sunshine. but not bad. but chilly night tonight. oh, we are headed to the low 30's, so bundle up for sure. once again, light drizzle. it will end in the overnight hours. so we will see some improvement. lighter skies on sunday, as i mention, with mostly sunny skies. and then we've got role significant warm up next week. look at this. we are talking 50's and 60s, unbelievable for this time of year. we are getting treated because we should only be in the low 40's. so here's look at the precipitation now, as it moves its way out. areas closer here to the mason-dixon line, this is where we are talking about where we still have advisories in effect, little bit more to the south of us, into our northwest.

temperatures in the overnight lousier, that will be into the lower 30's, upper 20's, where we could see little bit more of a refreeze there, as women, but those advisories will actually expire by 11:00 tonight. so these are the regions that we're speaking about. these are the areas that did see a lot more activity today, in terms of that freezing rain and the sleet. but highs today, all three airports, pretty much where we should be temperature wise. believe it or not, the who's, low 40's, pretty seasonal for us. as we get into the seven day forecast, we will really get a big treat with that rise in temperatures from mother nature. current temperatures right now, 34 degrees, at gaithersburg, the double three #'s at baltimore, same at martins burying, 32 at frederick, so 30 degrees at westminster, so here's where i am speaking about, where the temperatures just at the freezing mark, could dip slightly below in the overnight hours, 36 in the city. thirty-seven at fredericksburg. over night lows overall expected to be into the 30's.

north northwest, we will see some 20's, so little chilly and cold out there. and not the most pleasant. here is a look at your planner for tomorrow. by midday, we will be about 42 degrees, with the sunny skies. by 8:00 hour chilly only 35 degrees, but warming up by the afternoon with the sunshine. so tomorrow, overall, those temperatures in the 40's, at least it will be dry day. here is a look at your mlk weekend forecast. 46 degrees on sunday, mostly sunny, looking at light showers developing in the overnight hours. so, monday is a day where we will have cloudy skies, not wash out for mlk day. but i can't rule out a sprinkle here or there. soap, you know, if you are headed out to the outdoor festive tis, grab umbrella. 34 degrees for tonight, light rain, drizzle, combed. tomorrow, 46 degrees, there you go. here is a look at your fox5 objection ooh weather seven day forecast. speaking about those rise in temperatures, look at hump day.
