incredible. >> graduates of virginia military institute have served in every war since the mexican american war. look at that. from lexington virginia, that is impressive. that is impressive. >> more than 1,000 cadets marching right now, just a visual imagery of this is beautiful. their precision is incredible. looks like they were instructed to look left so they wouldn't have to worry. many of them have saluting as they walk by, saluting the new commander in chief. >> they're being led by cadet timothy j david son regimen tall commander from baldwin new york, their uniform is traditional gray wool uniform with cape style overcoat and red

>> congratulations, mr. president. (music playing) >> 45th president of the united states of america. >> this is, of course, the story at 6:30, tweet us what is on your mind about today, use #5at630 and what a day it has been. >> we're using the fox 5 local news #share your stories with us >> it was a day of excitement and fanfares at the least. tens of thousands made their way to the national mall. not everyone is there to cheer on as we saw. planned protests popped up across the region. >> let's get to it. piloto reporter and fox 5 newest edition hadas joins us with what we saw, i knew we were going to go see some
6:39 pm
emotion, got out of hand >> there was a few incidents of protesters when you were walking actually down towards the security barriers if you wanted a to go down to the parade route, you saw a of people with signs and protesters, some got out of hand by the washington post actually, over on 15th and k. there were quite a few protesters, fire to a limo truck and garbage cans, police had to to deploy pepper spray. seemed to be contained. for the rest of the city, most people saw at home seems pretty normal. >> give me your perspective, you're probably down there closer to the inaugural events. is word spreading quickly from those that were, you know, along the parade route and was it kind of startling to see the contrast >> >> you were going to encounter protesters as you were entering through the different security barracks. it was obviously a different feeling once you were on the
6:40 pm
there were protesters who had gone through and protest as the parade went by but the people there to celebrate continue to celebrate and i think they probably had a pretty good time >> i think the biggest at home, everything watching unfold was a tale of two cities. you saw the peaceful parade routes and what's going on. the reality is that's a small subset of what was going on and drawing the line of what were protesters and what were outright vandals and criminals >> i think that the peaceful protesters are probably angry at the vandals and what they were doing. i think tomorrow we'll see a different event with the women's march, expecting tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people tomorrow, that's expected to be a much different event than what we saw today. we saw a lot of anger among some protesters, people who seem to be there to
6:41 pm
>> there were maybe few arrested during the swearing in. is that correct >> i wasn't in front of the capitol but there were reports of people protesting the swearing in itself. there were also people who were shouting out when, for example, former secretary hillary clinton was introduced. some people were shouting out lock her up. clearly, the campaign might be over but for some people might not be 100% over >> i got to tell you, when we're looking towards this weekend, we talk about what's going on tomorrow then we have sunday, when monday rolls around, donald trump has, he's treating monday as day one of the administration, i don't believe we're going to be talking about much of this that we saw today after the swearing in when monday rolls around. >> i mean, donald trump and his administration have said they're going to hit the ground running and they've done so today, executive orders, cabinet secretaries are going to be sworn in, things are going to start happening on monday, we'll get our first real day in the trump white house
6:42 pm
press briefing out there. by monday, a lot of people's eyes will be toward the rest of the week. >> we look forward to talking to you quite a bit on 5at630 >> she mentioned as we look forward to monday, we do recall democrats against republicans during the whole election been split down the middle. even lawmakers within the own party >> jack berkman and david brown joins us on 5at630. jack, we'll throw it your way, you were not a fan of candidate trump in the early days, where do you see this going the next 100 days >> i was a -- convention, half the inauguration, i think the transition has been brilliant, i loved the speech. democrats were calling it a dark speech. i think it was a wonderful speech of american renewal. people like
6:43 pm
wisdom to write the speech in his voice. bush couldn't give a losty speech. this was a speech written in trump voice and i think it came across well. trump is not the kind of guy that can deliver the 81 inaugural or the 61, but today i think went very, very well >> before we talk to david, we're going to play some of the sounds of the speech today from president trump. let's listen. >> what truly matters is not which party controls our government but whether our government is controlled by the people [cheers and applause] january 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. >> let's bring in david now. david, i want to get your
6:44 pm
trump's speech. as we mentioned, some people calling it kind of a dark speech as jack mentioned, what was your thought? >> i have to say i think it's the first time i ever heard a president say define american describe america as american carnage in an inaugural address. i do think that it painted a dark and disian view of america. how he spoke to his supporters, i think it was a speech that was speaking directly to the people who voted for him rather than speaking to america. >> one of the reasons for frustrations of democrats is that trump continues his practice of what i call pre-emption, he takes the space. he takes all the poplism. he's talking about bringing jobs backing people like elizabeth warner and bernie sanders and hillary clinton and joe biden, where do you go in 20-20
6:45 pm
captured the mantra. what do you do >> if i'm paul ryan i'm worried right now because this was a speech that was very clearly not directed at working with the republican party or the democrat party. if anything, it was a speech that solid kneed and consolidated >> you're right and paul ryan is worried. paul ryan would have been more comfortable with hillary clinton and he'd be the leader of the party. i don't want to be too cynical. but trump kept a certain mon cum of independence, i think you couldn't have written a better speech, if you're the democrat party and new incoming head of the dnc listening to a speech like this, where do you go? what do you do? the workers the union bosses might be with the demes but the workers are with trump, let me tell you what we're not going to do. we're not going to do with the
6:46 pm
years under president obama. his single objective as senate minority leader, of course, he failed but the republican party has been a party of no, our job is to hold the president and your party to account >> jack, don't do that, i'm not going to is speak for those people. that's cheap. >> let's talk about the opposition moving forward >> we can talk about what's happened in the past, what's happened today, what is it going to look like moving forward given what we saw or heard from the president today in his speech, how will he governor? do we have any idea, does president trump know? >> let's take the aca, the affordable care act as an example. the president with a to single tweet really unraveled, and i think you're seeing they're scrambling
6:47 pm
looking for opportunities where we can work with the president and where we are aligned. i can't imagine anyone in washington would be opposed to creating good paying jobs for membership workers, that's something we should be supportive of. the devil is in the details. >> last word, healthcare will be tough but appears trump has a plan, it could be one of three things, but trump got a lot of support, momentum. transition was good. i really will make a prediction first hundred days will be successful. >> david brown, thank you both. jack, i know you done this before, you referred to kellyanne conway as kellyanne fitzpatrick. gentlemen, thank you, both. >> thank you very much. >> one of the first order of the trump administration is to repeal as we just heard them say the affordable care act. >> tha seems to have been number one, president trump has a plan for when the healthcare law is repealed and he says everyone is getting
6:48 pm
under him, phillip klein joining us now via skype. what do you think did moving forward as we take a look at the affordable care act? is this going to be the first order of business and are they going to be successful in repealing it >> i think that it's clearly an early >> it's one of the top priorities, the question isn't so much are they going repeal it? if they repeal it and replace it, trump is talking about keeping many elements trying to cover everybody and so forth, so then if you repeal it and then replace it with something quite similar, does that constitute fully repealing it i think a lot of the devil will be in the details >> president obama told to democrats whatever happens with the healthcare law he wants the democrats to make sure that donald trump owns whatever
6:49 pm
you can imagine for worse is what the democrats are hoping for. so i mean, how do you go about doing that especially when donald trump says insurance for all and that certainly is not was what paul ryan and company advocated for in the past >> what you have is whenever you're trying to deal with the can complicated situation such as healthcare, or any really complicated policy issues, do you have to have the housework out their differences? the senate work out and both chambers come together and work out their differences and that's hard enough work whereas this time republicans are dealing with the wild card of president trump and knowo no one knows what he's going to say and it's a lot of things that are contradictory and hard to square. so trump talked about insuring everybody for cheaper.
6:50 pm
it would be to insure people with a catastrophic plan, a plan that has higher deductibles but cover people in the case of serious illness or unexpected injury, and prevents massive financial losses. but trump in other statements in the past the high deductibles of obamacare. you can't have low deductibles, more comprehensive cover, lower premiums, less spending and broader coverage. you can't do all of those things. so this is an area in which trump natural salesman and sales pitch man mentality is going to put under cut a lot of the diligent policy work that republicans are trying to do >> perhaps this is, you know, most of the time the answer to think but how much concern is there that this affordable care act inha
6:51 pm
being will be a bigger mess after the fact than it is now, that some people calling it to be a mess as it is >> it could end up being one of the -- one example for instance is with regard to the -- he don't they're going to try to repeal the law. and so the law basically has subsidies and regulations, a lot of regulation that drives up the cost of insurance and then offers subsidies that try to help people afford insurance that's more expensive. so if you eliminate the sub staes, yet you keep the regulation that is insurance companies have to insure people with preexisting situations, people don't have the subsidies but you still have the higher premium and you also take away th
6:52 pm
requires people to purchase insurance. which is to try aimed at getting younger and healthier people in the market. >> absolutely. >> bill klein from the washington examiner. we'll talk about it very soon, thank you, sir. >> thank you. we've been talking politics but we also have been keeping a close eye on what's going on here at home in dc, our own alexandra limon is she still down there where protesters have been all day long? you see it right there. and alex, you're standing by there, can you hear us and if you can, what are you experiencing. >> reporter: well, >> ok, >> unfortunately that happens when you have protesters going on they have their messengers get by. you can see people getting in the shot right there. there you have it. >> we'll try to get back to her, if anything, at least show you a live picture of what's going on down there even if we can't
6:53 pm
listen to the audio. let's move on and talk about a the country moving forward in terms of cyber security. accumulations of russian election hacking carried out and followed him until the final areas before the swearing in >> president obama handed out sanctions against russia now it's up to president trump to continue them. michael hand lynn joins us >> it's nice to be with you >> do you think this will continue to be the case or will donald trump roll that back >> it will be complicated with russia, no doubt about it. i'm happy mr. trump wants to try to improve things, mr. obama did him a favor by imposing relatively mild sanctions compared to the crime are mild punishment, all president trump is to continue on with something that's already in motion. frankly doesn't hurt russia that much but send a message that each time you do something even more unacceptable we will up the anti-i hope mr. trump
6:54 pm
realized that's important to send. my expectation is he'll keep the sanctions in place, they're not bad to give a deal to begin with that and compared to what russia did to this country, it's a pretty mild punishment >> do we get any sense, obviously he's gone brother with the intelligence community and is going to have to rely on them heavily especially when you're talking about russia or any foreign policy, are you getting any sense that maybe from his people, from trump people that perhaps, you know, his attitude is going to change towards them and realized once he's in office we got to work together >> that's great question, i think it will change for a couple of reasons, first of all i admire the intelligence community and director brennan but there were mistakes in my opinion in how these reports were released in the last few weeks, and for example, on the issue about russian hacking, people should have been driving home the second point, yes, there was russian hacking and interference, we have no evidence that it affected the outcome of the election, if the second message had been drilled
6:55 pm
forcefully as the first, i'm not sure mr. trump would have reacted quite so negatively. he's going to have his own person, pompeo who will be confirmed pretty soon, and dan coats to run the office of, i think that will be enough to repair a lot of the damage in this situation, the intelligence community did great work, just a little bit of a problem of messaging and of course, mr. trump was his usual self in responding i think if we approve the atmospherics, we can get back to work >> congressman's pompeo's confirmation will be monday. >> as we head to break, give you another live look at what alexandra limon is in the middle of the protests we've been seeing throughout the city. we've drawn the line between what's a protest and a vandal, we've seen a good amount of vandalism around the city. but here seems things are quite peaceful for the time being >> we'll continue to keep an eye on it. alexandra limon down
6:57 pm
at dominion, we're putting our energy to work creating a cleaner environment by using cleaner energy sources like solar, wind and natural gas. we've reduced carbon emissions by nearly 25%, which is the equivalent of taking close to two million cars off the road. cleaner air and cleaner water. it's good for all of us. dominion. depend on us for more than energy.
6:58 pm
. welcome back on this inauguration night, you're taking a live look at the continuing gatherings we're seeing, some peaceful, some not t alexandra limon has been on the scene. we saw things get a little tense just a few moments ago. large crowds gathered. nonetheless word 213 arrest, few police officers were injured, six with miles an hour injuries. >> we do have thousands >> thank you so much for being here? explain your, i guess involvement with the women's march
6:59 pm
>> a lot of the people, lgpd communities, other groups, what do you have to say about that? >> any time you get hundreds every thousands of people together, you can expect that there will be number of different opinions, some there because they say i didn't vote for donald trump. other people want to be there because they say now that this is day one of the new administration, we want to deploy, to our communities, and actuall
7:00 pm
stands up for women who tends to get passed over in everything, not any more. >> who else will we hear from tomorrow that you're really looking forward to hearing, and we should be paying attention to? >> well i'm real excite that doctor cynthia hail will be speaking on behalf of women and ministry. a lot of times when you see television, or other places of protest, you see all of the men stepping forward. what we have here is that we have women who have held church together for millennium and finally we get to see them on stage, i'm real excited. >> a lot of talk the last couple days whether or not it was all inclusive event tomorrow. i know you're not part of the organizing group, per say, but there was a pro-life women's group, removed from the website, were disappointed. we talked to the organizers, you know, stand for choice but want to march, so for the. do you worry sometimes things like this even while standing united might become divide in the. >> of course, again, any time
