the crews are doing a great job getting it cleaned up. there was a big hole in the middle of the house and basically now, they're just cleaning up out here and that's what they will be doing quite a while. basically, what it looked like when we got here, a tree companies crane contractors, the insurance company, they've all been out here. and the tree fell basically from the back of the house and it just cut right through. it took a crane to lift this tree out of the middle of this house earlier today. it's out now. but it basically is cut right through. jean moore is the homeowner and got home last night. the wind of course was blowing hard by the bay and it was blowing so hard, she listened to that little voice, and she chose a different bed last night. >> where were you sleeping in relation to where the tree fell? you can turn around >> the bedroom on the right there. >> is that your normal bedroom, no, that's the grandkids's

woman that gary just interviewed to sleep in another room. this is a good time of year to check out the trees. this is scary when you get a gust of 72 miles an hour, that's just two miles an hour underneath hurricane strength and at joint base andrews reagan national on their climate data they said 50 miles an hour but there might have been a gust earlier to 66. highs still 63. 60 miles an hour gusts were common. dulles airport on their climate data said their highest gust 50 but a lot of people had damage and we're glad to see now a high wind warning then a advisory been dropped. high wind warning was changed to a advisory about 11:00 this morning, but still getting gusts up and over 20, gusting to 23 at reagan national. 26 at dulles. 29 at quantico, that feels like a walk in park. but where do these big wind come from? well, there's another huge storm up over new england and this is really dumping heavy snow just ss

this is fox 5 local news at 5:00. a look now at more top stories, house and basketball player is recovering after being shot in philadelphia. police say forward john davis was standing outside his home when shot in the knee. in a drive-by shooting saturday night. davis and another man were shot but expected to be ok. so far no arrests have been made. out of the district we know the name of the man shot to death in southeast. police say kenny bell was shot and killed in the 3800 block of 8th street. no word on the suspect or motive. dc police need your help finding a teenage boy missing

14-year-old miguel esteban was last seen wednesday in the 1200 block of cold brook terrace northeast. he's about 5'6", weighs about 150. last seen wearing black sweater, khaki pants and red and black shoes. in montgomery county, take a look at surveillance photo because police need your help in finding this man. they say he was a peeping time in ellicott city. stems from an incident that happened last week an old navy store on montgomery road and if you happen to recognize that man, give police a call. prince george's county police are trying to make sense of a vehicle crash in upper marlboro borrow that left one dead >> was it an accident or intentional? this much we know. the man killed was armed with a loaded assault rifle. matt ackland with more on this story. >> reporter: this is where it happened right here. the man was struck and killed, where

it was all captured apparent on camera by a papa john's camera facing out through that doorway there. but it's unclear exactly what was captured on camera and at this hour, police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and why it happened. early day when we arrived, we were told they were hearing different versions of what took place here. what we know is that the man is in his 20's. he was hit and killed right here by a man driving an suv when the police arrived, they found that he had an assault weapon on his person. we want to show you a little bit of video we shot earlier today. this is the vehicle police say struck and killed the man found in possession of the rifle it's a range rover with maryland tags. the other vehicle that police say was on the scene was also a range rover. detectives had it towed away from the scene. in the red range rover, police say it was a man and his daughter, and in the black range rover was the man who was kille

officials are not saying why he was put on leave. saying they can't comment on personnel matters. but they did send home a letter to parents today. take a look saying, in part. we appreciate your patience and support while principal alex case has been out on leave. this jessica staff assistant principal agreed to serve as the principal designee during mr. case's absence. now, while we don't know the circumstance to say behind mr. case, rumors at the school have been going around and at this time, none ofs those are confirmed. however, students here tell me mr. case did a lot of good things with their school and they're sad to see him go. >> he's a lot more relatable for a high school principal. i think he's really involved, he really cares about his students. i think we all really care for him. it's disappointing but i hope for the best. >> reporter: now, we're hearing there is a regularly scheduled pta meeting here at the school tonight it's happening less than
