>> i'm shawn yancy. >> and tonight, ten people are under arrest in fairfax county facing charges related to the murder of 15-year-old girl in gaithersburg. >> this is gang-related occasions also linked to another death in prince william county. "fox5" lauren demarco joins us live from gaithersburg now to explain, lauren. >> tony, shawn, young people teenagers involved here. and while fairfax county police have not named a specific gang. fox5 learned it's ms 13. which, of course, is based in el salvador and clearly behind ongoing crimes and violence here in our area. today we know ten people arrested four adults and six juveniles and all of this surrounding recent cases of three missing girls. >> the body of 15-year-old del maures reves was

17-year-old venus ran away in mid january. she showed up at home last night. but she is now one of the juveniles in custody with her death and lizzy rivera. she and her 5-month-old baby were missing since mid january they turned up safe and sound the same way damaris body was found. they live next to the woods where the remains were discovered and faeming of the baby is one of the adults facing charges. here he is 1-year-old jose castillo reves and he's facing charges with with three others. and again, there are also six juveniles facing charges. abduction and gang-related activity in connection with the investigation into the murder of damaris reves. >> it's a lot to follow and all of this may also be related to a death in prince william

county. we have learned the body of christian sosa rivas washed up january 1 and he had connections to one of the girls who was temporarily missing. so, what is going on here? and how serious of a gang problem is there in our area. police were asked those questions today at the press conference. >> the incidents are specific and does not appear to be a public safety threat. we don't think they're going outran domly attacking other people. it looks like they're targeted among each other. >> a department of homeland security official tells me they have seen uptic in violence from ms 1 here in our area in the last two years and 1 and 19 years in high school recruit younger members because they are aware that there are less serious charges for juveniles. so they're having younger kids help them commit some of the crimes. and damaris reyes

handful of calls they believe a handful of parents from different schools around the county. and one of them being a family at least one from ashburn elementary school and the spokesperson for the district though says they do not believe the school community itself is even the target. instead, they say they are going after families in montgomery county in general. and the district is sending out emails warning parents about this scam and to immediately notify the school and police if they receive a call. and the criminals here's part of what they do. they search online to find out information on a family and then call claiming they have abducted their son or daughter. >> spraerpt said they received this call in an ominous voice often from international phone numbers and caller says they have the child and will hurt the child if certain amount of money is not provided to the caller over a wire service. >> and i understand some of these calls you hear screaming in the background or something. >> some parents said they heard ki

background, which you can only imagine is exacerbates the fear. >> reporter: and the fbi is saying that it is is seeing an increase in these virtual kidnapping calls. three things that parents should know right away. law enforcement wants them to know that first off, do not wire money. then, call your child's school immediately to see if your child is there. and then call police. they say so far, no one has fallen victim in these recent cases here in montgomery country. now, this recently did happen to a woman in leesburg where she was duped out of $10,000 she wired to these scam artists. it is something clearly very convincing when the people have them on the phone. even though there are nine or ten cases right now here in montgomery country, montgomery county police say they have yet to hear from any parents or report of these types. they say it is important even if reported to the school, they need to call police and giv

earlier today after the frontal boundary came through with old colder air we picked up gust again at reagan national to 45. that's betser than we had sunday night and mob and it's still a significant wind gusts. prince george had gusts of 49 and you recall prince andrews had spots of 72 mile an hour gusts. another gusty afternoon and evening. a check of gusts right now they're quite a bit better. ranging from 17 to 9 miles an hour and that's where they stay overnight and that's likely where they will be tomorrow. and they have certainly brought in a lot of cold air. these are the air temperatures. mostly in the 30s. but because those gusts are still somewhat significant we have wind chills in the mid 20s to low 0s. a chilly start tomorrow morning and also just wanted to mention because we still have those strong winds blowing across the unfrozen great lakes don't be shocked if you get a quick snow shower or couple of of flurries here and there. best chance north and west. but as we get in tight on radar i'm
