first part of tomorrow morning. right now, there are gusting to about 32. it's not bad out here. it's certainly not cold and definitely not wet. the storms when they came through reagan national. only dropped two 100ths of an inch and there's very little left. these were apply flying along at the speed you would drive your car moving from west to east about 50 miles an hour. that forward speed combined with the winds bruised this. these are all the reports of damage and all of those dots are indicating either thunderstorm damage or trees down. there's quite lot around dc. biggest we caught was gust to 78 miles an hour at quantico. that is category 1 hurricane strength. plenty of other winds gusting between 50 and 60. we got a gust at reagan to 54 miles an hour. up towards kensington, morning side and prince george's county. 60 miles an hour,

capable of doing a lot of damage. so while the storms may be done, we'll give you a peak how fast they moved through the area between about 1:00 and 3:00. they're off the coast now. can't rule out a few more showers later tonight because we still have to wait for the frontal boundary. but they will not be severe. it's all about the winds going forward and there's a peak at those high temperatures today. you can say good-bye to those as well. we're going to see temperatures dropping. as we mentioned, big problems today with the winds that gusted and took down normal tree to say. one of the biggest trees i've seen coming down on a house in quite a while is in the forest glen area and our alexandra limon is there, i'm really hoping that nobody was injured in this, those pictures are terrify to go. >> reporter: yes, fortunately. not. we're in the forest glen neighborhood, not too far from holy cross hospital and take a look at

about, these huge oak tree was blown over from the neighbor's yard on to this home not far from myrtle road and forest glen. parts of the attic are exposed. the roof has a lot of damage, tree limbs blocking the doorways, luckily nobody was hurt. one of the homeowners was out in this area when it happened, picking up debris that had already been blown over. that's why he wasn't inside and he is safe now. i spoke to his wife. who says she was across the street at that community center for ash wednesday when she heard the tree come down. here is what she told us. >> i was across the street, and i heard a loud noise and i knew it was a tree coming down. and i looked out the window, and i went, my, that's our house. and my husband had already come back from across the street. and i was concerned he was in

i came flying across the street and saw him towards the corner and knew in that respect he was safe >> we had an intense storm, we went on condition red, which means that most units are on call and emergency communications for about an hour. between 2:00 and 3:00, intense number of calls. >> reporter: now, here's video of other incidents of wind and storm damage around the area. on park wood court, also here in montgomery county, not too far from where we are, another tree went down on to a home. now, we're told somebody was inside of that house but luckily that person wasn't hurt. now, in northwest dc along canal road and fox hall, a tree came crashing down on to that pickup and car that you see there which closed down that street as well. and in fairfax county. a sinkhole on americaa

we're told by fairfax police that is closed for an indefinite amount of time. the fire and rescue department tells me they got two, three call as minute anything from downed trees to car crashes to power lines that were also downed. there was one incident where the live power lines hit the water and burned a hole into the street. a big mess out here. reporting live in montgomery county, alexandra limon fox 5 local news. developing, fairfax county police and the fbi are searching in the for bodies. police have a large section cordoned off. paul wagner joins us from fairfax with that story. paul. >> reporter: i'm on

place. homes run park behind me, at the end of this cul-de-sac is a driveway that goes down to the park lawn pool that's where the mobile command post is set up tonight. you'll see a video in just a minute. a tent and some crime scene tape. that is over these trees and behind these houses over this section. it's about 200 yards away from where the command post is. now, we asked the fairfax county police earlier today if this has anything to do with the recent arrest with as many as ten people in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl. at the time, police say that was gang related as well. here's what the police had to say >> we don't know of any connections from previous cases we've been investigating. however. >> we don't know what type of crime but the information that we're receiving is there may be a gang involvement. >>. >> reporter: did they says this may have something to do with somebody missing >> they did not

>> reporter: neighbors say tha they first noticed police in the neighborhood last night. and by morning, the area was saturated with all sorts of equipment and k9 teams. a mobile command post was set up adjacent to the park lawn pool where we could see fbi personnel and coming and going and others venturing into the woods. about 200 yards away from there, behind single family homes, investigators had set up a tent with a perimeter protected by crime scene tape. the tent was open on all sides and appeared to be the kind used when police are trying to protect the scene from the rain and wind. at times during the day, an officer could be seen guarding the area. as of this afternoon, police said they had not found any human remains. what was being protected by that tent at this hour is still unclear. one neighbor told us, she heard gunfire in the park sunday night. and last night as well, but was concerned enough, i should say but was not concerned enough to call the poli

neighbors told it is earlier today. >> we walked down there, you know, we go hiking on that side. we go on the other side. and kids normally outside every day when it's a nice day. so >> i don't know. it's just really kind of worries me. >> i'm scared because you know, i'm home all day with the dog. but she's not going to go after anybody. i always leave the door open. that's the way i am. >> i saw a bunch of cadets combing the woods. with surveying equipment and all kinds of, you know, command posts down there. there was maybe 20 vehicles down there earlier. obviously they're putting a lot in this. >> reporter: what's been the talk in the neighborhood, is the fact that fed find human remains here, this would not be the first time in recent years.

2014, two gang members were found decaptated. they arrested as many as seven ten gang members, tried and convicted in federal court in alexandria. a gang related case. the police here in fairfax are telling us this may be gang related. >> we lost palm we'll check in with him. in fairfax county within the hour, authorities say they made an arrest in a sexual assault were in an apartment community in annondale. >> as one woman being attacked a neighbor heard the screams and ran into help. she was also injured. matt ackland with more. >> this all happened about 3:00 this afternoon. yesterday afternoon. a man came up to the woman moving out of her apartment and said, hey, do you need

help. noticed something was a bit strange. but she went into her apartment and then about an hour later, that man followed her into the apartment. that is when he attacked her. let's take you to video we're told by police that he showed some kind of knife and then he told the woman to undress. that is when she screamed. a neighbor nearby heard those screams and came running, their's what police had to say. >> thank goodness a neighbor heard her and came in and confronted the situation. when the two victims tried to run off, suspect actually grabbed the neighbor, pulled her down and she fell and injured herself slightly. but he ended up running off towards rectory lane. >> reporter: once again, as jim and sarah, we're saying in the beginning, a man has been arrested. they believe linked to the sexual assault

united states. just one small part of the executive order, which also focuseds on stopping federal funding of sanctuary cities and again enforcement of the immigration laws we already got on the books. the call for this new office did not get much media attention. and for many, president trump's remarks about voice last night, may have been the first time you heard about it. take a listen. >> and we must support the victims of crime. i have ordered the department of homeland security to create an office to serve american victims. the office is called voice. victims of immigration crime engagement. we are providing a voice to those who have been ignored by the media and silenced by special interest. >> reporter: the executive order that called for voice outlined the following details about the office. now, first, provide

victims of crimes committed by removable aliens. in addition to providing those services to victims, the services would also be provided to family members. especially because at least in those examples we saw last night and certainly in others, the victims were killed, leaving only the family members behind to receive support services. now, separate from providing services, the office would also study the effects of these crimes committed by criminal aliens and the office would provide quarterly reports on those results. we reached out to ice to get their statement on the development of this office. this is what they did to say. the office would acknowledge and serve the needs of crime victims and their families harmed by criminal activities, perpetrated by immigration violators. the men and women will be guided by a singular straightforward mission to support victims of crime committed by

three people dead and more than a dozen injured after tornados tore through the midwest. >> residents are getting the first look at the damage. fox's matt finn has more from illinois. >> reporter: a series of deadly tornados sweeping to the

overnight. causing widespread destruction in arkansas, iowa, illinois and missouri. one of the hardest hit towns, oh, towa illinois, at least 50 homes are damaged or destroyed >> it was scary. did sound like a freight train like they say and it was fast and stuff was blowing around hitting the windows >> it's a mess. we'll rebuild and come back. >> reporter: the tornado a result of small but strong storms known as a super cell with sunshine warming the atmosphere ahead of an approaching cold front. bringing high winds and heavy rain over a huge area from texas to ohio. putting some 45 million people at risk. as the storm tracked over long distances. many residents had evacuated to storm shelters coming back this morning, to assess the damage >> i could feel the pressure dropping and my ears popping. i knew it was here. i just -- i didn't expect it to happen to me. but it can happen to anybody

26 tomorrow, tornados, and two; this this was straight line window damage that took down our trees, even though those strong storms are out. they came through between one and three, we're under a wind advisory and it will begin at 8:00 and 10:00 in the dmv and that will go till 10:00 to tomorrow morning, we expect to see winds that could be sustained between 20 and 30 but gusts as high as 50 or 55. that's why we have that wind advisory and at this hour, we still have warm winds out of the south, gusting to 30. by 11:00 those winds still out of the south, why we were able to hit 80 today, that is tying the record from the 70's that we had around here. 7:00 a.m. we got gusts to 30. they're coming out of the northwest. and that means tomorrow will be a cooler day. we keep winds gusting to 30 miles an hour through the noon hour. bottom line, march is going to come in, continue to come in

a plan followed a woman into the bathroom and sexual assaulted her. they captured the suspect taking off through the back door. if you recognize this man, please call police. a double stabbing happened overnight is under investigation in loudoun county around 2:00 in the parking lot of a shopping center in sterling. they say two men were stabbed. the victim was taken to the hospital but expected to be ok. the suspect took off in a car but no word yet on a motive. a special ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of route 123 intersection improvement project. a second left-turn lane. pedestrians and drainage improvements as well as the signal poles and street lights. dc officials took their fight to state hood right up to capitol hill the latest in a decades old push. the mayor and dc congressional delegates say they're

it's more the same old approach produced no results. let's go live to tom fitzgerald on the hill tonight with more. fitz. >> reporter: you know, think back on election day, november 8th. one of the other things that happened that day was that dc voters approved a statehood ballot question, not by a little, by a lot. 85% margin. today, as she is done year after year after year, dc delegate eleanor holmes norton introduced into congress the washington, dc admission act with mayor bowser and other officials by her side. reality. it would take something like a miracle to get this passed through the republican congress. however, both the delegate and the mayor said today, this act was crafted carefully with an eye towards getting republican support >> it's an american issue. we call

briefing. long time dc state hood advocate and political analyst mark plot kin wanted to know back when democrats had control of the house, why car per never brought his own bill on dc statehood out of the committee when they had enough democrats to pass it into the full senate. however, he was told today that he didn't have enough votes and didn't have enough republican minority votes to make that happen. plot kins spoke to us later and said frankly, none of this today that was taken in effect up here on the hill will in the end have any effect, he said, on actually making dc the 51 st state. is >> he said this was a sham.

he said that there needs to be a new approach on dc statehood if they want to make any progress, which they have had far too little of in plop kin's eyes up until this point, last week, republicans, jason who runs the house oversight committee said he has an idea of retro session, allowing dc to actually be represented by maryland. a lot of the dc statehood advocates reject that day outright. calling it insulting. they say that effort denies the 680,000 taxpayers in this city of their rights to representation. live on the hill, tom fitzgerald fox 5 local news. in maryland, governor larry hogan declared a state of emergency nps to the state of heroin crisis, the governor announced $50 million in new funding. the that man will go towards supporting the state's it's

that i love the most about the festival is for beyond the peak dates of the bloom is that the festival is ongoing. >> reporter: at midday. the sun is shining and one of the glorious signs of springtime to come in the nation's capitol are these too lip magnolias. the timing of these blooms doesn't really mean a thing, just like weather, predicting when these cherry trees will look like this is not an exact science. in the district, bob barnard, fox 5 local news. always seems to fluctuate a couple days. >> it's tough getting down to the wire like predicting when the snow will arrive or something as tricky as that. i don't envy the national park service for trying to figure out that date. it has been such a warm february and today, 80 degrees, record high for march 1st. you would think it would be really early. that's what we're on track for. however, looks

trying to make some sort of come back here, these next couple week, we have know snow in the forecast friday and possibly another chance in the long-term before they bloom. the whole key is get that snow out of here and all that wind before they bloom. because then there's no turning back. that could, of course, delay the start date of when we expect the cherry blossoms to bloom. we got other weather headlines for you. thunderstorms that came through earlier, not so big a deal. a lot of wind gusts kind of high. briefly moved through. they came and went quickly. more showers expected tonight along this cold front, northwest winds will be gusting over 30 to sometimes even over 40 miles an hour. that's colder air moving in which will mean it will be a much chillier thursday and so chilly, in fact, on friday, small system could deliver snow showers to maybe the whole area. peak wind gusts the squall line of thunderstorms that came through one 1:00 p.m. today. 78 miles an hour wind gusts was the

quantico, germantown, 66, not too far from where alexandra limon is would you out showing the damage. these were severe storms even if they came quickly and quite frankly didn't have much lightening, so itted with them. 32 miles an hour wind gusts here in washington. look at that 40 miles an hour wind gusts in quantico. temperatures in the upper 60's and we broke a record hitting 80 before those storms came in earlier. showers in the forecast, you can see south southern maryland towards charlottesville, a little bit of light rain and the cold front across western pennsylvania where you see isolated cells, that could bring brief gusty wind. expect showers, there's the skinny band moving through washington late tonight, nonsevere, cold front passes overnight then that cooler air rushes in.
