especially students they're happy they won't be having class on wednesday already on friday that was scheduled teacher workday. now alexander city public schools decided to make wednesday international women's day a teacher workday. classes will be cancelled here at alexandra city public schools. for the most part everybody at t. c. williams was in agreement. if you look at the facebook page there's thousands of comments and people really upset by this decision saying it is a burden for parents especially single parents agives roughly 48 hours for parents of the the younger children to plan how they will deal with childcare on that day. i'll read you a portion of the statement here from acps saying we understand is that the when school is closed there is impact on families who may have to find unanticipated childcare. we apologize for this unforeseen burden on parents and thank you for your pain

now, we've reached out to other school districts in our area. i'll read the list here. prince william county public schools, arlington country, fairfax county, montgomery country as well as prince george county and d.c. public schools. they all say that for now, they will have classes an wednesday and all school districts saying they will be monitoring the situation and they have not seen the high absent teeism and hi request for day off like they did here at acps by staff members and d.c. ps going a step fourth they release aid statement an i'll release a portion of that statement saying they are expecting staff and students to be in class on wednesday. they respect everyone's right to observe that day but they're expecting staff and students in d.c. public schools again. le exand ra d.c. public schools deciding to cancel classes wednesday to observe

previously said there was video evidence in the caseen a search warrant affidavit now lays it out in disturbing detail and says what was recorded when damaris reyes reef he's was killed in january. video clips not only reveal how the teen dayed but why. >> the affidavit says recording is date stamped january 8 and "depict the interrogation and kawnting of the victim by saevrl males and also reveals the motive that damarisreves was killed you in gang let related retaliation murder of reves. the affidavit says some of the videos depict interrogators holding the knife, poking victim with the knife and stabbing victim with large pointed log while the victim exhibited signs of life. fairfax country police say a juvenile that took part in the

tracking device four days before killing and data placed him at the location of the abduction and torture of the victim. ten people including four adults and six juveniles are now facing charges in the case. in a news conference following the arrests fairfax county police chief ed rossler described the murder this way. >> savage brutal killing. it was horrific. i'll leave it at that. >> although police say the 15-year-old was killed in retaliation for the murder of christian reves in prince ill william country exactly why is unclear. this is what a prince william county police spokesman said at the time sdm apparently he claimed a rolled he did not have. is what my understanding of it was. >> and the fairfax search warrant affidavit says the juvenile with tracking device told police he was associated with the gang ms 13. and he admitted he was involved in the abduction of the 15-year-old girl. later found dead near a

>> now, just last week fairfax country police recovered bodies of two people in the wooded area of holmes run park the two were murdered what was like a guilty or not guilty related killing. the identities of those two were not released and police this afternoon said it may not be until may 17 that they're able to put names with those remains. paul wagner, "fox5 local news". and now to anne arrundel country where the search continues tonight for a man charged with murdering a woman. hes with in a relationship with. 38-year-old ryan holenbaun killed jelandia betler. she was found dead he kery place and covtton. he got away free police arrived and faces 1st and second degree murder charges. investigators say they do not believe it was a random crime. straight ahead at 5:00 a robbery and assault caught on camera. >> a man tries to fight back taking on two suspects after the backpack was stolen. >> and grading metro. details on the agency

you can see the warmer air south. knoxville 67, raleigh 64. richmond 62 and those winds out of the south will help to transnort warmer air for tomorrow. for this evening though a couple showers around. a lot of clouds. 51 degrees at 7 and by 9:00, 50 with so the spotty showers and 11:00, generally dry and about 49 degrees. big headline for tomorrow, temperatures are back on the rise. in fact, if we get some sunshine and we're not expecting a lot of sunshine tomorrow, and you know we have a few showers coming. but it would not be surprising to see some places crack 70 degrees tomorrow especially down to our south. so you know i love it when we can juxtapose a 70 degree day with with snow in the forecast. we'll talk about that in the 7 day later sarah and jim. that's your tease. sdpr thanks, sue. police in the district are hoping someone can help them solve a two weekend old assault and robbery case. >> two men in one carri

"fox5" bob barnard with video that could help crack the case. >> and the crime was captured on two surveillance cameras at a gas station on 14 street in northwest. it's about 5:15 in the morning on sunday february 19. and that man is about to steal what police say was a north face backtrack the driver of another car parked at the other pump. ton the pack back owner sees what's going on makes a dangerous and valiant effort to get his property back. it's a struggle the robbery victim would eventually win but the potential down side was great. the young man could have been shot or stabbed or severely injured in the battle with the would-be robber and his partner the driver of that dawrk sedan. >> oh, my gosh. >> we showed the surveillance video to people at the gas station and elsewhere in the city. >> wow. that's crazy

>> new numberers showed up happy metro riders are, transit authorities annual report card shows impact safe track is having on reliability and customer satisfaction and on top of that report card metro now released latest budget. >> wamu transportation reporter and "fox5" contributor martin decaro all right mar twhain is the take away from the budget we're seeing right now. >> very few people will like what's in here. who does want to pay more for fares or see bus routes eliminated. this final proposal that could see a first vote on thursday is supposed to reflect the consensus of metro and its jurisdictions and metro board has been working on this for fweekz not months and what we're going get are fare hikes

cents train trips and 25 cents buses and extra dime for parking lots and on service side metro just released list of bus routes that either will be changed or eliminated and it's about three dozen bus routes long and don't have time to get into it all now. one bus line of interest the 5 a to dulles airport will be saved. and just with reduced frequent sixt so that bus will run less often and on the rail side, rush hour train frequency. there will be fewer trains at buzzest times of day and metro is calling this balanced approach to right side service for diminished ridership and we must point out metro average weekday rail ridership is lowest since maybe we pay more for less service and the board was able to soften the blow of initial proposed service cuts so not be as tough on riders. one other point to make here bus riders yes they'll get a 25 cent bump in fair and low

will remain $17.50. >> i a lot of people get frustrated paying more when it comes to fare hikes and at the same time feeling as though things are noyment proofing. so let's get back to that report card and talk about what lines did you say performed the worst out there. which ones are struggling. >> well, everything was skewed by safe track over the last half of 2016. orange and silver lines were simply crushed by safe track work zone eps we end of years those were arriving on time a third of the time. for entire year out of 180 million rail trips only 0% of customer trips arrived on time. if you add in five minute buffer that goes to 85%. that's not where metro wants to be and it was expected and will probably continue for the better part of the first half of this year. and the big picture analysis here as you mentioned in the report card right, rail customer satisfaction is

satisfaction is below target as well. metro hopes those figures will increase over the course of the year as more new trains come online and buses come online and key thing to remember one year from now i'll be standing here hopefully one year from now talking about another enormous budget deficit. and metro structural budget deficit will not go away in one year and ridership will not bounce back that quickly and this time next year we're out of the measures we used this year to balance things out. they're hesitant to raise fares two years in a row and already cutting service and cutting 1,000 jobs and even metro general manager paul wheatfeld july 13 will be out of money and out of ways to find. a lot of cities are dealing with similar financing problems maybe not safe track issues but this is not unique to d.c., martin, thank you. >> developing now, just weeks ago president trump was praising general motors for plan to invest

evening should be pretty brief. we can see that's the first round of several batches of showers back across the ohio valley and that's what we have in the forecast for tomorrow. showers may come and go and overall mild, breezy and pleasant day. temperatures right now 53 washington and 49 baltimore and 5 westminster and 40s along the spine of the mountains. there setup tomorrow will feel like spring yet again and warmer. nice push out of the south and high pressure moves offshore and means our temperatures should get well into 60s with a few peeks of sunshine mixed in with clouds and breeze gusting over 0 miles an hour and showers along the approaching cold front. not a lot but when the cold front comes through late tuesday to early wednesday morning we could get decent rain at least briefly. so here's fox future cast beginning pretty much overcast and dry tuesday morning maybe showers in northern maryland and later in afternoon you see showers coming off mountains and scattered light rain through the evening than i

bass pass alexandria public schools. puzzled some and broke down others. i'm shawn yancy. >> i'm tony perkins. >> parents are baffled after alexandria city public schools made the decision to closethon coming wednesday. and the move came after hundreds of staff members requested the day off "fox5" mar each amosh of course owe is live with the story. a lot of people are talking about this one tonight. >> they really are tone jury especially on social media. parents are sounding off saying it put the parents with younger children particularly in a really rough spot especially because they only have wruvly 24 hours to figure out their childcare.

they're happy they won't have classes on wednesday and the school district saying this was not a political decision and it was not any sort of representation of their political stance and they did issue a statement saying that we understand that when school is closed there is a an impact on family who's may have to find unanticipated childcare. we apologize to this unforeseen birnd on parents and thank you for your patience and understanding at the same time they received requests from 30 0 staff members to take wednesday off an at that point they did not want to compromise the learning and saferty of their students by bringing them to class here at alexandria city public schools with roughly no teachers. so they decided instead to make it a teacher workday and cancel classes and, of course, we spoke to students here and listen to the reaction.
