be the real bite of march's chill. let's take a look at what's happening on radar. we've had snow showers throughout the early morning hours. few snow squalls still continue to move down heading from the northwest, heading to the southeast across on the mason dixon line in hagerstown and area to the accident north and northwest of us, not a lot seeing right now. it's eventful going to start to die off. just enough to make you pay attention and realize that winter is still making its presence felt across our area. temperature-wise, the same story. right now, the double 4s at manassas. same at culpeper. 42 at dc. 34 at winchester same at westminster. 45 at fredericksburg and 32 in cumberland, we're going to see a huge dip. if you compare from yesterday to today, you can see the huge difference in the drop, look at this, 31 degrees temperature difference for winchester, 29 de

>> it's been 43 days since pinky was shot and critically wounded outside her north capitol street carry-out. a vicious assault very nearly called her. shot once in each arm and leg that night after fighting way man she knew well, a man she tried to help, a man who called her ma >> >> this is where pinky had been trying to reclaim her life for the last several weeks. in the physical therapy room at the rehabilitation hospital. just the last day or so, she's been able to place the full weight of her body on a badly wounded leg. sitting on her bed down hall, she described the wound to her right arm. >> this hand, i got shot below wrist right here. it shattered my bone. >> reporter: on january 25th,

will recognize the video you're about to see, the vehicle right here wanted in connection with a drive-by shooting in southwest. it happened wednesday afternoon in the 4400 block of south capitol street. you can see someone firing shots at the victim from the suv before it takes off. there you see the suv. luckily no one was hurt. if you have any information, police want to hear from you. in prince george's county, a police officer is being credited with saving a from an overnight house fire in clinton. broke out around 1 a.m. on symposium way. six family members including an infant were asleep inside. the officer was out on routine patrol. noticed the smoke, called for backup, pounded on the doors and windows trying to alert the family. >> at this point, i figured i have to try to get in here somehow. i took my baton and smashed out the glass along the edge of the windows to try to reach inside to

latest crime reveal a disturbing hate based threats are way up. bob barnard breaks it down for us. >> reporter: the most visible hate crimes have been the attacks on jewish cemeteries across our country. with head stones toppled

he say created. here in our region, swastikas were drown in a middle school bathroom. but it's more than just anti-semitism that's of concern to government officials, community activists and religious leaders here in the capitol. >> we have seen them go up in relationship to the campaign. we don't want make it political. call it what it is, but that's what seems to be the case. >> reporter: he's a transgender woman who says she experiences all forms of hate on the streets of washington. >> people sometimes are really rude. they might not say anything to that individual but then they laugh. and they say things out loud. they make cuts at you and it hurts. >> reporter: the mayor and police chief say the number of reported hate and bias crimes nearly doubled between 2015 and last year. officials say there were 107 reported hate

district in 2016. up from 66 the year before. here is the breakdown of the crimes based on religion, sexual orientation, gender identification and ethnicity or national origin. >> i think what we wanted to convey is we're watching it. we've seen up ticks in hate crime. we want to educate the public and call 911 and you'll be treated with dignity and respect. and the crime that is you report will be taken seriously. and we will seek justice. >> reporter: the roots of upward trend in these types of crimes in the district are not so obvious. >> whether it's a situation where people feel more comfortable coming forward, that would be a good thing. if it's an indication of we do really have an increase in these types of crimes, that's obviously bad thing. i think that's why we put the today out there so we can collectively find out exactly what the cause is. >> reporter: bobar

local news. many native americans feel they're under attack since president trump took office. they organized a protest in dc this morning. thousands turned out. demonstrators cited the president's approval of the dakota access and keystone pipelines as examples that their rights are being violated. the protesters gathered at the army corporate of engineer office in northwest. from there, they marched to the trump hotel then on to the white house. the trump administration meantime trying to clean house. this afternoon, attorney general jeff sessions announced he wants nearly half of all the u.s. attorneys in the country to resign. there are 93 us attorneys and sessions wants 46 of them to step down. the us attorneys were appointed during the obama administration. his request is not unusual. new administrations often appoint their own federal prosecutors. president trump is turning on the charm hoping to rally the defective violateded

this happened about an hours ago, metro said two teens were taken into custody. started when one of them tried to ride the metro without paying. when the officer tried to stop at the suspects, there was a strugg a

trees are in full bloom. some are just now starting to bloom and the cold stuff that we're expecting not only this weekend but through next week, it's not good for the cherry blossoms. i'll tell you what. i don't want to say this. >> if it goes down to, say, 24 or lower, we could be looking at a majority loss of the blossom, perhaps as much as 90%. and you know, with perhaps snow coming this weekend, you know, looks like we're below that 27 degrees, pretty much every night for next week or so, and given the, again, the fragile state of the blossom, just as they start to emerge from the protective coveragings, we're going to keep a close eye on that this weekend. >> can you imagine? 24 to 27 degrees. he said 24. 24, it's catastrophic loss.

the blossom. that could be catastrophic. but again, everything is kind of flipped upsidedown. it's already out. the rumor are true. we're talking about a pretty significant storm possible next week. it's going to be cold this weekend. there's no doubt about that. it's going to stay cold. snow chances are there. are in place, definitely the going forecast, it does look like, a good likelihood we're going to have a significant nor'easter. we do have cold air in place, this is monday night and into tuesday, so the cold air is in place. we have an area of low pressure coming down from the northwest. we talked about this all the time. it's going to throw its energy or transfer it out to the coast and we're going to have the storm run the cost. we know there's going to be snow. looks like we have snow along the i95 corridor. how much snow will

of the corridor? how much snow will we have west? and back up into the higher elevations northwest. i think that the where they're more significant accumulations are going to be. it's only friday and the storm really gets in here monday night. let me say this too. it does look like it's going to be disruptive. it looks like it's going to be an impactful storm from the midatlantic to the mideast. if you do have travel plans, just know that the airlines are going to be doing a lot of cancelling, no doubt about it. trying to reposition planes or not bringing planes into storms. you'll have a lot of problems, monday, tuesday and even into wednesday, some cases as much as thursday and friday, in those place that is get most of the snow. super cold out there. it's 42 degrees gaithersburg is 36. 15 to 20 miles per hour and gusts higher than that. you know what that means, windchill factors are in the teens and the 20's overnight tonight we're going to stay gusty overnight, it's going to stay cold and raw, we had a few little snow

through. snow squalls, most of that calmed down. we can still see a few flurries blowing in the air. for the most part, looks like we're drying out. look how much colder we are at 5:00. than what we were yesterday at 5:00, we're 29 degrees colder than what we were. significant cold air. this is arctic air, right on the edge of the arctic air. it means business. look at the cold air, a trough of low pressure settled in and opened the door for this arctic air. the true arctic air is the core of that going to is that he to the north. but we're going to be on the southern edge of it. it's going to be really cold. the winds going to stay up tomorrow. we initially thought maybe there was going to be snow around sunday. looks like this whole system will stay to the south of us. a little bit of light snow flying through north carolina. but this will eventually be part of the same system that comes back up the coast on monday and tuesday. to bring

we're looking breezy and told this weekend. temperatures in the 30's and 40's. tomorrow we're 39. tomorrow night lose an hour of sleep. we're going to spring forward. 43 on sunday, not quite as breezy, sunday will be warmer feel of the weekend but still going to be terribly cold for this time of year. look at the lows, 26 here in town. hopefully we stay up to 27. that will keep the blossoms in good shape. it will keep temperatures up a little bit. cold tomorrow, 28. we will have lots of sunshine, temperatures won't respond. up into the upper 30's and the wind will keep it feeling like it's in the upper 20's to the low 30's or so with the windchill factor. few morning clouds on sunday. 43 for a high. late evening snow. i think after about 8:00 on monday night, so hopefully we get most of the commute. all night monday and into tuesday we'll be dealing with the

would have thought we were that the middle of spring, the flowers thought that. about a boy have things taken a turn. that's kind of been the pattern, i keep saying march is so unpredictable and really rang true. snow squalls that moved to their way through. to our north and northwest. you might have seen a stray flake or two across the area and that will continue into the early part of this evening. before that is all said and done. next story, of course, is those temperatures that really took a dip. right now, 40 at dc. 38 at dulles, 38 at baltimore, 35 in martinsberg and 34 at winchester, and the 24-hour temperature difference, well, we went from the 70s to the 30's and 40's. so anywhere from a 25 to 31 degree temperature difference in the past 24 hours. it's not going to get better, bitter cold for tonight. bitter cold for saturday. bitter cold for saturday night.
