a live look at the latest track of the storm. everything does seem to be on track. we expected to start seeing enough snow developing around 9:00 tonight. it might cover the grass in some areas and that's exactly what we're seeing. you're seeing snow here in the purple shade and the darker purple indicates a little bit of heavier snow. we got some of that coming through dc right now. you can see down 95 toward the fredericksberg area a little bit more but we also see the rain snow line, there's been sleet mixing in and a little bit of rain down to our south and east as we expected. this is going to continue all night long with the heaviest snow from now really until about 7:00 in the morning and it has been getting a lot colder, we're starting to see sticking not so much to pavement. i checked the fox 5 parking lot. nothing is sticking yet. but it's sticking to the grass and cars and the fence to say around our building. here's that heavier band we're watching. also moving north. so this may be able to put down a half ch

had a half inch accumulate in is just the last hour or so as we've been watching. and if you've been paying attention to the storm for the last several days, you know this piece of energy has everything to do with helping to develop a new area of low pressure off the coast. that will be our nor'easter and that is going to cause a huge mess for places like new york and boston. we're certainly going to get a very big snowstorm outside of it as well but we have very big challenges with this one, which we'll get into in a moment. our heavy snow will begin around midnight and it will continue until 7:00 in the morning, that doesn't mean we're done with snow at 7:00. most of the accumulation is there by 7:00. we'll have ongoing snow showers throughout the day. even into wednesday to be honest but this rain snow line has been quite a challenge in the forecast and it remain as challenge but it does appear snow it will be cutting do you know totals, we will have wrap around snow
10:04 pm
evening we could watch another stream. most will be to the north and west big totals where you have a chance at getting over eight and 12 inches and that is going to be higher elevations to our north and west but i mentioned rain snow line challenge and we're going to send it over to caitlin roth because that will create a different scenario depending on where you live in this region. hi, caitlin >> you're so right. we knew it would be the biggest challenge and it still will be going forward. some of you waking up with literally nothing on the ground and some with a foot of snow. very challenging doing our best to show you how that's going to go to develop. most are seeing snow right now, and that's what we anticipated that at least until midnight, everyone will see snow. but that dividing line right along i95. it's a tricky when you live along 95. as a result winter storm warnings, snow should accumulate at least four inches or more are in pink. winter weather advisory just

stafford county and spotsylvania county and virginia where we expect less of accumulation due to the mixing and then change over to rain. in effect until 2:00 p.m. we've been seeing temperatures fall steadily since sunset. 34 at reagan national. 32 at dulles. most areas north and west now at freezing or below and the snow is sticking of the best way for sue and i to know you're seeing snowfall or that it's sticking let us know on social media. we love your teeth, caitlin roth fox 5 and sue palka fox 5 dc. she's seeing snow sticking to the grass, southern montgomery county you're getting the snow. it will probably stick soon. megan is in fredericksberg but they're starting to see the mix line sneak into parts of prince william's county and fredericksberg is one of our spots we expect little accumulation by tomorrow morning. due to the sleet and then the rain mixing in.
10:06 pm
also one of our favorites, strider saying we have snow cover cars in kingstown but grass and roads are just wet and as we go through the coming hours, we expect more snow to fall to continue to accumulate with that mix. not starting until some time between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. for dc and that will greatly impact the totals. we will show you the latest coming up in just a bit. first, shawn and tony back to you. our coverage continues now with gary mcgrady, tracking the storm. live in frederick maryland. we've been calling this winter's rerevenge >> left frederick moving to the south and it's coming down good. in the last 30 minutes or so we got a lot of coverage. basically a moderate snow ban now, in terms of the driving ban doing pretty slow. at little slushy trying to stick on the sides of the roads as you can see from the picture. traffic not having a problem. slowing down.
10:07 pm
once the rate of snow picks up, that's really when we're going to have a problem on the roads. the roads were well above freezing with sunshine and temperatures in the 40's. we're moving through a pretty good snow band and i anticipate that this is really going to continue to get a little bit heavier over the next several hours. roads are primarily wet now just kind of reiterate that. and i do believe that the roads crews have done a great job out here. pretreating and we've seen a couple of salt trucks earlier and i suspect we're going to see plenty more of those. at least on this band we're headed 270 south right now. i've seen one car went offer the road. whether or not it was weather related no idea. the state trooper was assisting them. other than that, we haven't seen anything. this is really the heaviest snow we've been seeing. and beginning to kind of pile up mainly off the roads on the grassy areas, side. the heaviest coming in overnight tonight.
10:08 pm
i suspect it is only going to -- i know it's only going to be getting worse now for the next several hours, and tony and shawn, a little bit on the side personal note i've been here 13 years. never, not one time have i ever been able to actually be out in the snowstorm. i've always back there. i'm kind of excited about this. this is new thing for me and tomorrow morning, van and i will be back out and i suspect hopefully 6:00, 7:00 in the morning, it will be something out here. and we'll be getting around and showing everybody i suspect five, six, seven, eight, one feet total, things like that, at least from the meteorologist -- we're not chasing the snow. we're in the snow. >> van, eyes on the road. eyes on the road. we'll be back about 10:30, and even at 11:00 as well. >> very good. thank you very much. gary. looks good. road crews are ready to tackle snow in northern vir
