obamacare but that will no longer happen. the vote has been postponed until tomorrow. now, a meeting today between the president and the house freedom caucus it seemed to end without the support needed to hit the 215 votes necessary for the bill to pass the house. now, the press secretary he still hosted his daily press briefing after that meeting and he said that some members of the house freedom caucus did in fact say they would vote yes. though he would not say who or how many. now, the president was also on the phone with different house members until late into the evening working to earn votes for the bill. now, let's turn to speaker ryan. he postponed his weekly press conference scheduled for today twice. signaling trouble. the press conference has been postponed without any rescheduled time and there is instead a house republican conference meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight. now, speaker ryan has also been meeting with those who oppose the bill all day in an effort to convert them. so, what if it doesn't pass tomorrow? will

repercussions for those republicans who don't support the jbill? can you imagine if e repeal and replace of obamacare that republicans have been talking about for years doesn't pass because of republicans? listen to what the press secretary had to say about that today. >> this is something that we've talked about. you've taken a bunch of these free votes when it didn't matter because you didn't have a republican president and you got to vote for repeal and go back and tell your constituents something like 50 times, well, this is a live ball now. and this is for real and we're going to do what we pledged the american people and keep our word. he believes not just him but the members of the house and the senate have an obligation to fulfill the promise and pledge they made to the american people. >> reporter: the white house maintains that they are confident the bill will pass. in order to avoid a vote at 3 a.m. tomorrow morning it has been postponed noting "this should be done in the light of day, no t not in the wee hours

than 48 hours since the body of corinna mehiel was found in a row home. >> so far police released a picture of her car an photo of a person of interest but still no arrests have been made. matt you talked with one of her friends from gw. >> reporter: yeah, we did about an hour and a half ago. his name is mel chen and he worked on a project with her here at the university connected to the corcoran school of arts and design. he really had some wonderful things to say about her. let me read them. corinna was brilliant always ththe first to smile. she embodied a life of kindness and generosity. mel chen says he had dinner with corinna on sunday night. we asked if she may have expressed any concerns about her life being in danger. >> never, never. no our departure was full of

>> reporter: he says she was a woman of action and would leap to help someone in need. she also is wanted to end violence against women. >> she recognized that the liberation of men is part of that process. to the person who did this to her, you're too late. you failed. corinna mehiel was already liberated and he will boldened so many people to fight for their beliefs. her spirit will continue. >> reporter: meanwhile d.c. police still at the scene of the crime today yellow tape still blocking the sidewalk along 14th street northeast. the investigation also taking them to beltsville maryland. this picture of a person of interest was taken at this convenience store. an employee telling us police were here wednesday and again this morning and there is this picture, corrina's prius with kentucky plates. police say they captured this image on a traffic camera and say pay close attention to this yellow bumper sticker on

the back. that's it, those two pieces of evidence that yellow bumper sticker authorities are hoping maybe you might be able to see that car and spot that sticker and also that picture calling it a person of interest. by the way, corrina's family contacted fox5 today. they were asking that we view this story again to get this word out. obviously they want to get this person arrested. d.c. police say they're still working this case but didn't have any further information. one more thing before we go. mel chen told us that he was having dinner with corrina on sunday night and remember, this was a short-term project. she was only in d.c. for a short time and she was scheduled to leave d.c. very soon after that dinner. live on the george washington university campus tonight, matt ackland fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> new tonight, police in prince george's county need your help identifying the suspect in a double shooting that left an 18-year-old dead.

alyssa banks was shot to death back in october on prince place in upper marlboro. a man was also shot but he survived. detectives today released this sketch of the man they are looking for. a $25,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. >> meantime police in prince george's county have arrested one of their own after he got into a crash overnight in his police cruiser. christopher brown was off duty when he struck a tractor-trailer lost control then crashed into a guide rail along interstate 495. brown left the scene after the crash but returned a short time later. responding officers suspected he was under the influence of alcohol and tonight he faces charges including speeding and drunk drive. he's been suspended by prince george's county police. >> big change is on the way for metro riders of the today the voted to raise fares and cut service. rail fares will go up 10 to 25 cents and bus fares by a quarter. trains would are a arrive at stations every eight minutes throughout most of the system during rush hour. metro will also get rid of some

family. they are both in jail charged with raping a 14-year-old student in a bathroom. tom fitzgerald live on the hill tonight with more on this case and the effects are wide ranging, fitz. >> reporter: they are jim, sarah, good evening. the chairman of the house judiciary committee telling fox5 tonight he intends to continue an investigation into immigration break downs, policies that were not in force that he said led to a situation that allowed these two suspects now under arrest in the rockville high school rape to enter the united states from the u.s.-mexico border and make their way to and montgomery county, maryland. the house judiciary committee tonight requesting from ice customs and immigration enforcement what is called the complete alien file on these two individuals. they are also asking for data on how and when each individual entered the united states and in a letter to the homeland security secretary general john kelly tonight, the

wants information if either individual" was a member or associated with any criminal gang, the chairman telling fox5 news exclusively tonight he intend and to impanel a hearing next week to ask many of these questions. >> we have already received a good verbal response from the department of homeland security that they are looking forward to responding to this letter as an opportunity to tell how they're changing policies so that in the future, people showing up at our border will not get released into the interior of the country so that things like this will be far less likely to happen. >> reporter: back in montgomery county meanwhile there was this scene, the u.s. secretary of education betsy devos met with protesters as she and maryland governor larry hogan arrived at the carter rock elementary school in bethesda this morning. devos did not take questions about the

school rape investigation. however, the u.s. department of education did release this statement in her name. it read in part "my heartaches for the young woman and her family at the center of these terrible circumstances." governor hogan, as you well know, blasted the montgomery county school board this week for not providing answers to questions from the governor's staff and the maryland state board of education. when we spoke to him today, the governor reported there has been progress on this front but he urged the schools to continue to be more transparent. >> have you gotten the answers that you demanded on tuesday morning that you were not receiving from the montgomery county school board . >> we had a conversation a little earlier and i asked for continuing discussion. we don't have all the information. it is an ongoing investigation and we kind of want to let everybody

>> reporter: the job of educating these students in rockville high school goes on, though but it has not been easy this week as you well might imagine and not made easier by the fact there continues to be a long and steady stream of threats and threatening messages sent into the school. the spokesperson for montgomery county public school tells us they have been flooded with threats, some of the messages claiming that there are explosive devices that will be involved, some firearms, some people leaving messages saying they will come to "shoot illegals." those are the words from the mcps spokesperson today. now, as far as these messages, one of the school board members, patricia o'neill is calling for calm saying she shares the concern over this attack but in this current environment she says there is noplace for these kinds of threats: i was as angry about this as a lot of your parents seem to be?

incident, i mean, the breath just came out of me because i was so shocked and horrified, how could this happen in montgomery county public schools? you know, it's -- >> reporter: how did it happen. >> i honestly -- i don't know. >> reporter: finally tonight we are hearing for the first time from the attorney for one of these two suspects, henry sanchez. the defense attorney in a statement saying his client is the subject of a rush to judgment, is innocent engaged in what he calls a consentual act and will plead not guilty. we should remind you in the state of maryland, the victim in this case is 14 years old. that is below the age of consent. we're live on capitol hill tonight, tom fitzgerald, fox5 local news. >> virginia governor terri mcauliffe weighing in. he was asked if he supports the idea for

cheryl mitchell killed after her car collided with a school bus. two others who were in the car are expected to be okay. the driver of the bus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. there were no students on the bus at the time of that crash. >> police in prince george's county are investigating an armed robbery at a country style chicken and waffles overnight in temple hills. police say two suspects held -- entered the location on saint barnabas road, held an employee at gunpoint and demanded money before taking off. a third suspect waited outside in a van to help the two suspects get away. if you know in egg, pleaseif yoe call prince george's county police. >> a teen missing for several weeks. jenae robinson miller last seen on march first. her mother says the 16-year-old ran away from her aunt's home in camp springs. prince george's county police handling that investigation. >> friends and family gotd in montgomery county to say their final goodbyes to damaris reyes rivas the 15-year-old missing since december was found dead in

virginia back in february. police say her murder is connected to gang activity in the area. 10 people and four adults and six teens have been arrested in connection with the case. there have been an estimated 150 threats against jewish community centers and schools around the nation and some of them led to evacuations and emergency responses right here in our area. >> now the fbi says a man is indeed in custody for the crimes and they say he's a jewish man who was taken into custody in israel. >> fox5's alexandria limon is live in rockville tonight with reaction from the local jewish community to these unexpected turn of events to say the least, alex. >> reporter: that's right, we're at the jcc of greater washington in rockville. this was one of the places in our area that got threats via phone calls and e-mails and people i talked to today tell me they feel both relief as well as sadness about the news of this arrest. now, here is what we know so far. israeli police say they've arrested a 19-year-old man as

a prime suspect in this recent wave of threats against jewish organizations all around the united states that we've seen in recent months. now, the fbi released a statement confirming their cooperation with israeli police to make this arrest. and according to the associated press, the suspect's lawyer said outside of a courthouse that the 19-year-old suffersrom a very serious medical condition that may have affected his behavior and that condition prevented him from serving in the army and also from going to school. the the attorney also said his condition could affect this investigation. now, police have banned the publication of the suspect's name. they're not releasing it. they've only said he is a 19-year-old jewish man with dual citizenship in the united states as well as israel. now, today we spoke to the executive director of the jcrc for his reaction to the news. >> i think there's a b

sadness in the jewish community that the person who was disrupting jewish institutions is in fact jewish and history shows that one can be jewish and be anti-semitic simultaneously. it may be hard for people to believe at times but it's happened many times in the past. we are facing an increase in antisemitism there's no doubt. if you look at the statistic you'll see that over the years the number of religious based hate crimes as a total percentage of bias crimes has increased dramatically. >> reporter: now, while authorities confirm that that suspect is likely the prime suspect in most, if not all of the threats we've seen via phone calls and e-mails around the united states, the truth of the matter is that here in our area, we've also seen other types of anti-semitic incidents like vandalism in school bathrooms and also football fields, things like that and so the jewish community

>> good idea. don't tweet while driving. >> right, right. >> we'll get a photographer down there to update you but i can tell you people who have been talking to me on twitter and facebook say they think the blossoms look pretty good despite the fact that it took a big hit last week and certainly took a hit last night with temperatures pretty chilly but weather headlines going forward, we're going to do something about that. for starters, there are the possibility of a few showers tomorrow morning as the mild air comes in. but i don't think everybody is going to see it. in fact, i think those showers will mainly track up through pennsylvania and there could even be a touch of freezing rain up there. but, that's the beginning of the warmer air. 70's are and finally back in the forecast on saturday and we are going to be staying mild on sunday but a little bit unsettled. a lot of clouds saturday. more clouds on sunday with some showers around second half of the day so if you're thinking about heading down to the tidal basin, maybe do it earlier on sunday or go on saturday and that spring feel is sticking around next week. we'll have mild temperatures

continuing but it will be a little bit unsettled and we'll have chances for showers as we roll through next week but the colder air is going to take a little vacation. it's going to be moving up to the north and that will allow the jet stream winds to transport in warmer air back into our region. 61 or so tomorrow and then 70's for saturday. at this hour we're still at about 47 degrees. i don't think we got up to 50 degrees today in d.c. i'll check the climate data in a little bit but you certainly did get there south and west of d.c. with temperatures into the low 50's and then as we expand the picture, you can see how close we are to warmer air coming back in. how about nashville at 67. little rock at 82. atlanta is 63. new orleans 81. houston 82, so that's part of the warmer air that will try to push in and this is the leading edge of that warmer air. notice there are a few showers with it. as that crosses our area tomorrow, it could produce a couple of showers, not this evening though. we'll be cool at 7 o'clock, 44 degrees. by about 9 o'clock, 42. and by 11 o'clock, we're chilly but we're not going to be as cold ton

obamacare. that will officially no longer happen. the vote has been postponed until tomorrow. now, there was just recently another blow to the potential for the bill to pass. it just broke. newest mates from the congressional budget office show that the federal deficit would not decrease by as much as initially estimated. now initial estimates predicted the federal deficit would decrease by $337 billion in the next 10 years. the new estimate predicts a decrease in the federal budget of only $150 billion. now, still, that is seemingly a significant decrease but likely not the news that republicans were hoping for this close to the deadline. now, speaker ryan, he postponed his weekly press conferences twice today. again, signaling trouble. the press conference has now been postponed without any rescheduled time and there is instead a house republican conference meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight but we no
