makes. there were hundreds of people here. friends, family, even people that did not know iona mcallister who heard what happened to her and wanted to be here tonight. >> tonight's vigil quickly became a celebration of mcalister's life. attendees wore white to remember her and honor her. her peers area her family shared memories. her parents also had an emotional plea at tonight's vigil. but, most importantly, they say that they want this to serve as a remind he of the dangers of gun violence. no mother, no family member, should have to go through burying a child this is hard. there's work to be done. i was -- my husband and i are both social activists. we always have been. and we've done things or a smaller scale. god has given us a flat for through

>> reporter: largo high school tonight was filled with tiers and broken hearts and again a lot of love for yona mcalister. they shared touching stories about the teen killed. tonight at the vigil they th thanked the khunty for all their support a community that includes a church. sorority, fraternity, friends and also students in high school and college. attendees also made a mrooe for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. >> no matter what happens to the person our daughter is not coming back. and so, i would just ask that if anybody knows anything that they come forth, share the information, so we as a family can get some comfort. >> reporter: mcallister was a college student st. augustine in raleigh, north carolina, she was home for spring break like so many students do when they come home. there's a

>> teeners and student at thomas stone high school in charles country are mourning loss of a student tonight. 17-year-old lashell goodwin and 4-year-old sister were shot and killed by their own father before he turned the gun on h himself. the mother survived and is still fighting for her life. anjali hemphill has more how the classmates are dealing with the news. >> it really was devastating news to the whole thomas stone community. >> the principal of thomas stone high school says jr. lashell goodwin was on right fooj life and tragically cut short. charles county police responded to lashell's home 8:30 thursday night where they found a 36-year-old woman standing outside yelling for help. she had been shot several ti times. she told officers her husband and two children were inside the house. when officers entered the home they found 37

goodwin dead from self innriktd gun shot wound in living room with a gun lying nearby and police then found youngest daughter 4-year-old layla lifeless body in upstairs bathroom and in nearby bathroom located 17-year-old lashell suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. lashell and mother were rushed to the hospital and lashell died. a moment of silence was held for thomas home high school. lashell played in volleyball and exeled in art class and was honor roll opportunity and recent school academic team. >> she had dreams of being a graphic diaper. students would say you can find her always drawing something. she was just one of those kids that she would lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. she was positive. and she will be truly missed by thomas stone

at all, sarah. >> all right. thanks, gwen. we're following a tragic story out of southern maryland. a family dog attacked and killed an 8-month-old boy. it happened yesterday afternoon at a home in lusby. earlier today "fox5" paul wagner talked with the county sheriff investigating the case. >> reporter: it was just after 1:00 in the afternoon lovesby the sheriff office received a 911 call the family pet a pit bull was attacking a 8-month-old boy in the living room of a hole. there were deputies nearby and within one minute they were on the scene and once they arrived inside the home determined immediately that the child was fatally wounded. and shot the dog. >> baby being attacked by a dog. responding units ak knowledged one minute past 1 p.m. thursday when that call went out and just one minute and 10 second later a deputy opt scene radios he's found a pit bull inside with

>> cherry blossoms expected to reach peak bloom this weekend. somewhere damaged during the cold snap but the warm is expected to cop rite tomorrow and part of surprised. temperatures expected to reach 70s tomorrow. this is second week of cherry blossom festival and kickoff is tomorrow evening at the warner theater. i'm so glad we still have some of the blossom as around. i was not sure what it would look like and what the half of them being dead for the most part. it still looks nice there. >> with the cold and snow it was scary. everybody looks forward to it it's beautiful. >> good news is. >> tomorrow we're really b bumping up tomorrow turz. not a lot of sunshine when you have the beautiful cherry

don't really need all that sunshine. it's going to be absolutely wonderful temperature rise. now, tonight we have clouds and clouds will continue all ahead of a frontal system. expect cloudy night and mild night in comparison. chilly nights with those temperatures. cloudy, milder night ahead for you. but a big warm-up by the time we goat saturday temperatures 70s. unsettled for early part of week, however, we could see a thunderstorm or two starting to pop up and late week mild again with temperatures in the 60s. not bad. speaking of 60s that's where we hit today temperature-wise low 60s in all three airports and better than this tomorrow. we're actually headed not to the low 70s but to mid 70s which will be a treat. it's definitely spring conditions for sure. 56 right now at d.c.. 61 dulles. we have 64 at fredericksburg to the so long.
