>> another busy tuesday here in washington dc, days after one failed campaign promise president trump moving forward with another one. >> but the healthcare overhaul and wiretapping still getting a lot of the buzz. that's what we're talking about tonight, of course convenient run down on the side of the screen, tweet us what's on your mind, use the magical hashtag 5@6:30. >> magical because it shows up on the screen. after unsuccessful attempt to work wit it freedom caucus, president trump now widely expected to try and pursue democratic votes on other priorities. the decision though carries risks of

increase tensions within the party he's trying to lead. >> political reporter joins us tonight, al, thanks so much for joining us. >> thanks for having me. >> the president said hey, i'm too long reach across the aisle; there a down side, all of us in the public great both sides need to work together. is there down side for the president for actually doing that? >> i think there remains to be seen. coming out of the healthcare, healthcare last week, it is a lot of pressure on the white house right now. right now they're focusing on two different aspect, mainly tax reform, then also potentially infrastructure package. fax reform really front and center, and it is tough to segway into that. because house speaker paul ryan looking to repeal a lot of his taxes out of obamacare. cadillac tax, a bunch of others. so that hurts them, as they move into reforming tax reform. it will be an uphill climb i think that's for sure. >> is this going to be a donald trump art of the deal mane

you look at the political ramifications go to guys like bob case any pennsylvania, hey look, you're up for election next year, by the way i carried your state. maybe you should come my way? of them up for re-election and five this states that overwhelmingly went for president trump, you know, people like joe mansion, heidi, north dakota, missouri, really under pressure by this white house to come along and work on some of these things, seeing little bit right now with judge gorsuch, his nomination, that will be voted on next week before the two week recess. it will be big time for president trump. talk about the art of the deal. he kind of failed at that last week. and we're going to see what it is all b as he tries to pick off democrats, and specially in the house, i think he'll need, the house, kind of under rated, they're going to need to earn some democratic support in the house, especially freedom caucus won't go along with some of the these things like we saw with the american healthcare act. >> you brought u

there. i think the president has seen there is a big difference between signing annex he can tiff order, and actually having to work with congress to get things done. but you brought up the freedom caucus, which we know held up that whole big healthcare bill for the republicans, how much of a problem do you think he might face in dealing with them as they try to move forward with all of these other plans? >> well, they've been a headache for awhile now. another example of where the tail was the dog. i mean, it wasn't a pretty site for house republicans and speaker ryan obviously is not pleased about what happened. but, i mean, the one thing he has to look at, he can look, some of these members, they're in district, very, the president trump is very popular in. i don't think they'll break with president trump all that often, get along some of these issues, but healthcare, but healthcare such a big one. womb we'll see if president trump can recover from it get through tax reform package or infrastructure package. i

best bet to get anything through bipartisan. >> how about paul ryan, where does he stands? if they flex their muscles moving forward, does this endanger his speakership? >> at least not for now. president trump right now, he seems like he's standing behind president or behind speaker ryan at the moment. and i mean spoke to congressmen, none had any appetite to look to maneuver a move speaker brian, bradley burn from alabama told me we basically beck him to take the job. >> true. >> right now, you know, what are we going to do tell him no? no one else wants the job. that's the other thing. that's it, nobody wants the job. >> thanks for coming. >> thank for having me. >> president dismantle central part of president obama plan to curb global warming. now the order initiates review of the obama administration clean power plan.

emissions at power plants. by signing that order, president trump says, he intends to bring back coal mining jobs and reduce the cost of electricity. >> the action i'm taking today will eliminate federal over reach. restore economic freedom. and allow our companies and our workers to drive, compete, and succeed on level playing field for the first time in a long time, fellows. been a long time. >> i'm not just talking about eight years, talking about a lot longer than eight years.

>> that's the story, and that's what the documents show. i hope she testifies. >> i look forward to t it was never -- let's be honest, the hearing was never -- was actually never notified. if they choose to move forwards, great. testifying. >> the reason there was talk about this, that testimony was supposed to happen this week. we know that the head of the house intelligence committee, devin nunes, counseled the meetings for the rest of this week, so a lot of speculation. >> so sean spicer says he wants to hear from her, but don't know if we will hear from her. >> true. the white house tonight take an aim at sanctuary cities, but it is not
6:38 pm
from her administration on immigration. >> ronica cleary here talked to the mayor today. a lot of people, this has been big topic. a lot about immigration because of other ancillary cases, but what did the mayor have to say today? >> it is a very big topic. yesterday, i reported, about the attorney general, saying, that this is now a time when we will enforce policies, about sanctuary cities. we will hold department -- withhold department of justice grants, and so today, there was a press conference, with the mayor, there was also the interim police chief, there, and i wanted that direct reaction for our viewers to this announce: now, interestingly enough, i first asked the interim police chief, would they start asking about immigration status at arrests. resounding no. that's not their policy. they do not intend to do it. and the police chief says that he basically feels that doing things like that differ
6:39 pm
take a listen to what the mayor had to say. >> it is a long standing policy, metropolitan police department, not to enforce civil immigration laws. we believe that the enforcement of civil immigration laws creates a divide, between us, and the community we serve. and at the end of the day, we believe that will make our community less safe. and as the chief of police, i don't think i should be involved in any behavior that makes our city less safe. >> our job is to enforce the laws of the district of columbia. and we are not local ice officials. we are not, however, harbor for criminals. no matter where you're from, so the police department will deal with criminals, violators of the law, will be charged, they'll be prosecuted and they'll be held. >> so the sound from the interim police cleve was, there as well, i think that's good. i want our viewers to hear directly from him. so, you know, certainly taking that stance, saying that they've no intention to chge
6:40 pm
the mayor saying that their attention is also not to harbor criminals. but fundamentally saying that they plan to keep dc as a sanctuary city. so it is interesting, i was thinking about it, before this report, it is as if you have the president's administration, and now the district and other san too area cities and states across the country, as if they're playing chicken. you know, who is really going to take that move to put yourour you will, and either withhold those doj grants, or let these cities and states continue to act as sanctuaries. because right now you have a lot of big talk on both sides. >> right. >> we've got to see which action really comes through. that will be very interesting to watch for. >> and rhonda -- ronica, cities are saying federal law, federal restrictions right now say the federal government can't tell them what to do. obviously i think this will be a long protracted battle here. >> you know, jim, it was interesting. when the attorney gener

out and made that announce. , the direct pointing to federal law, i thought it was very interesting, and probably purposeful. in comparison to the issues and backlash they've had to the executive orders, on immigration with these temporary bans, i think that was pointedly saying that we can do this, this is constitutional, but of course now seeing this reaction like you said, where cities and states are saying that they don't have to do it. >> so, this may be another battle for the courts. >> we'll see who dodges first in that battle of chicken, thank you, ronica. >> a woman and young girl made very emotional plea today with house democrat. take a look. >> my own count rip, my own president does not ends stands that i'm in love with somebody who is illegal immigrant. how much, i'm trying to do things the right way. i'm an u.s. citizen, i've been trying to do the right thing. but there is no

dc. also, to our south. so we will keep them in the forecast a little longer, but not everybody's going to see them. unfortunately, because again still very much in that moderate to severe drought in our area. we will back to the sunshine tomorrow though. it will be a cooler day. little bit breezy, as well. so instead of the low 70s, like we had today, we're going to be in the mid six 60s, which is still pretty nice, for late march. cooler temperatures though are back on thursday. only be in the 50's. we will watch the clouds increase on thursday. which brings us to rainy friday. looks like this could be maybe a beneficial soaker. so if you have plans outdoors on friday, be ready to re-think them just little bit. i know the nats have exhibition game at 4:00 at, in a park against the park, but otherwise few more hours, keep the umbrella behind i think these showers will be out of here by about 9:00 or 10:00 for those of you seeing them now as the frontal boundery gets ready to move through our area. jim, sean, that's look at your weather headlines. >> thank you, sue. >> all right, big league, there is

the nats confirmed as they welcomed in the media to show off the new food items. they always do this kind of thing. you see the new food, but they also explained why the president won't be there come monday. the white house has announced that president trump unfortunately will not be able to join us on opening day due to a scheduling conflict. the tradition of the president throwing out the first pitch actually started in 1910. it's a

tradition and when baseball returned to washington the nats continued the tradition and had president bush and president obama here. the last time that president obama threw out the first pitch. did you know that president obama was a highly regarded baseball prospect. i wonder when the last time he played baseball was. >> we know his game of choice is golf these days. president obama when he first threw out the first pitch, his delivery wasn't -- when he threw out the first pitch at a white socks game at one point, maybe when he was senator he had the dad jeans jeans on. shoe palka does a really good first pitch. i want to show you this back in 1988, ronald reagan the only president born in the state of illinois throwing out the first pitch at a cubs game, of course barack obama, abe lincoln and

somebody messed up. that's the way it looks to me. there's a cottage industry, because i would presume even though it's being sold in trim tower it's not manufactured by the trump organization. >> right. > you see the whole cottage industry of t-shirts being made regardless of the candidate that you supported out there. maybe this is just another one. >> maybe it's a gift shop or something. there are stores in trump tower and that happens to be one of the t-shirts that being are buying. speaking of trump tower, from trump tower to his h modest beginnings. the house of president trump sold at an auction at # $2.14 million. an investor bought the property. the home is in jamaica estate, queens and it is the address listed on president trump's birth certificate. that's a look at where the president grew up or went home after he was born. you wonder if at some point, i mean, after his presidency if a house like
