weekend and just hours ago a failed missile test. protestses get heated in california as pro and anti trump demonstrators come to blows. the news at ten starts now. i'm lauren demarco and he i'm matt ackland. we start in prince george's county where the fire department is honoring a firefighter who was shot and killed while responding to a call just one year ago. john always a snider was 37 years oasmed he went by skillet around the firehouse. lindsay watts is there at the firehouse. >>reporter: this is the firehouse where john skillet objection to the form schneider was assigned. i can take you over here and show you his locker. it's now been turned into a memorial. earlier tonight dozens of firefighters from all over gathered here to honor him. at eht

everybody called for a moment of silence. that was the time he was shot and killed last year. all personnel please be advised a moment of silence in honor of john skillet oms schneider. you can see there were bag pipe players, objection to the form snide ers' mother was here and you can see what a big crowd came out. he was killed during a welfare check at a home in temple hills. when one responded at the house he forced entry. he thought somebody was breaking in. he not only killed oms schneider, but shot and killed his own brother. oms schneider spoke to the crowd tonight about how much she misses her son and how happy he was to work for prince george's county fire. i know john would be

a real family member. it's going to take sometime. how long, i don't know. >> the fire chief says some closure did come yesterday when the man who shot oms schneider schneider was sentenced. darryl lum kin got four years in prison because he thought that he was firing in self defense he wasn't charged for the three shooting, only for illegal possession of a fire armt did i ask the chief what he thought about that four-year sentence and he just said this is what the courts decide, this is what has to be accepted. of course this has really changed how firefighters think about save tivment the chief was telling me that just tonight they got a welfare check call. the woman wanted firefighters to break down her door when her husband didn't answer a. firefighters didn't do that tonight and the fire chief says there are go to be some new policy changes to come in coming weeks as they continue to investigate what happened one year ago. we're live in landover hills, lindsay watts,

fox5 local news. >> earlier today another event was held to remember oms schneider schneider. dozens of people turned out to donate blood. the event was held at a church in college park. organizers say they put together this blood drive not only to pay tribute to oms schneider schneider but also to on o all firefighters who put their lives on the line every day to help others. to the district now where police are searching for a man wanted in connection with two separate assaults in northeast. the first attack happened thursday in the 100 block of kenilworth avenue. the victim says the man came up behind her while she was walking and groped her. the second attack happened around 6:30 this morning in the 200 block of 34th street. the suspect was carrying a knife and grabbed the victim from behind. she was able to get away. p if anyone has any information that could help solve these cases contact d.c. police. this weekend is filled with all sorts of sporting events. you got the caps playing tonight. the wizards are playing tomorrow. the nats

of here in d.c. for spring break. but getting around may be a bit of a challenge especially for folks wanting to ride metro's green line that's because the next face of safetrack is impacting service. fox5's alexandra limon reports. >>reporter: safetrack 14 is now underway and what it means for customers on the green way is that the greenbelt station will remain closed for the next month as the work goes on. you'll see also extra buses, shuttle buses that ill with be replacing trains. here's what else you need to know. originally the agency planned for this to be a longer period of continuous single tracking. metro now says instead search 14 will be a shutdown in order to reduce the amount of time repair work will impact customers and it's going to be split into two faces. surge one goes from april 15 through april 29. free shuttle

night. this was at one point exactly what our daytime highs were and the same story for our overnight lowe's with temperatures in the 60s pretty much across the board with a few upper 630s there. clouds yes rolling n. right now there are some showers as i said earlier i peeked outside and we're getting a little bit of a sprinkle here in northwest d.c. don't be surprised if you see some rain showers moving through as we head through tonight. we're anticipating it and once we get into tomorrow we've imt the same kind of chances happening all associated with the warm front. as we move into night the temperatures in the 60s and tomorrow we are talking 830s. so a very warm day and then we've got a cold front to deal with and that as well will set us up for a chance of maybe seeing some showers or even a little bit of a thunderstorm because we're going to have all the warm air kicking in. so a little bit of instability can't be ruled out. futurecast once we get into
