the driver pulled over and let the kids out. after all the students got outside safely, the bus simply became engulfed in flames. good news no one was hurt. parents with questions are being asked to contact the school directly. the big story this morning, though, is that authorities in multiple states are actively searching for an ohio man considered armed and extremely dangerous. >> that's right holly. 37-year-old steve stephens is accused of killing an elderly man and posting video of it on social media. now members of the victim's families say they forgive the alleged killer. fox5's melanie alnwick has more. >> reporter: good morning guys. lots of activity here in d.c. early this morning as there were some reported sightings of stephens here along embassy road. one at a hotel and another out here on the street. d.c. police did go and investigate those reported sightings. said they did not check out but we can expect to see and hear more of these as people across the country are now on alert

>> the hunt is on for 37-year-old steve stephens. >> our reach now is, um, basically all over this country. >> reporter: on easter sunday police say stephens attacked 74-year-old robert godwin, sr., seeming the at random in cleveland, ohio. they say stephens fatally shot godwithin a retired father of seven, then posted video of the on facebook. but g godwithin family now says they forgive stephens. this as a vigil was held monday night in godwithin honor. >> steve, i forgive you, man. i said i'm not happy what you did, but i forgive you. >> i just want him to know that god loves him. we love him, yes, we're hurt, but we have to forgive him because if we don't forgive him, the bible says your heavenly father won't forgive you. >> reporter: meantime authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to stephens arrest. >> we're still asking steve

but if he doesn't we'll find him. report roar police are warning people across the midwest and northeast to be vigilant in a separate facebook video stephens claims an issue in his love live caused him to snap. >> we interviewed several people involved in this and i don't think there's any rhyme or reason for it happening. i don't think there's anything that we can point to specifically to say that this is what spark this. only steve knows that. >> reporter: now apparently at one point sunday afternoon cleveland police were able to reach stephens on his cell phone tried to get him to turn himself in and then all contact ceased. there was a gps pink from his cell phone located somewhere near erie, pennsylvania, that was sunday afternoon and since then no one has seen mr. stephens the fbi inves investigating in this search and people are told that he is considered armed and dangerous. live in northwest dc, melanie alnwick, fox5 local

meantime military investigators from alabama are head to do saint mary's county in maryland today to try to figure out why an army helicopter crashed on to golf course. one crew member was killed, two others badly hurt. the chopper was on routine training night from fort belvoir when it went down. now earlier this morning we spoke with military reporter about what the military knows so far. >> at this point, we know very little. we have essentially eyewitness accounts. it's also telling that the army is describing this as a hard landing. typically what that means is that the pilot was to some degree in control of the aircraft at the time point that it went down. so they were maintaining some control rather than just a spiral or dive. >> so far the names of the crew members have not been released. she said we should get that information at some point later today. that crash comes less than two week after f-16 jet crashed in prince county it crashed neat from nearby homes. incredibly nobody was hurt. no homes were damaged.

parachute from that jet. now residents are calling him a hero but investigators have a long road ahead to try to figure out exactly what went wrong. all right. let's turn to politics now turning to president trump's first 100 days. today the commander in chief will head back out on the road. now he's heading to wisconsin where he will sign a new executive order called "by l uy american higher american" officials say the order would direct federal departments to propose new rules to prevent immigration fraud and abuse. the white house said the current program is under cutting american workers by bringing in cheaper laib. meanwhile voice president mike pence continues his tour of a asia. this morning, he's in japan. pence and japanese leaders have gun talks to focus largely on trade. tensions with north korea also loom large. the vice-president reassured prime minister abby that the united states considers japan an important ally in the region. >> in the face of provocations across the sea of japan, the people of this country should know tha

its role in the enslavement of men and women and children during the 1800's as well as the sale of those people to pay the school's debts. bob barnard joins us now live at georgetown with the families of some of those former slaves. good morning to you, bob. >> reporter: hey, wisdom good morning to you. prayer service here at 10:00 o'clock this morning the jeez is you witness community and the archdiocese of washington will formally apologize for the first time for this school's history with slavery. one of the things they're doing at noon today is dedicating this building this is a residents hall had been named for one of the university officials involved with a sale of those 272 slaves back in 1838. it is being renamed isaac hawkins hall who was one of those slaves and joining us life here is mr. hawkins great great great granddaughter rochelle sanders prater. >> that's correct. >> you liven

decedents of the georgetown university slaves. but you were telling me, rochelle, it's got to go beyond this this is not day one much this is kind of the beginning for you. is that right? and for these families. >> well, for me, personally, i like the idea of the foundation with the endowment because it has elements of reconciliation where we can -- this can be internal. this can be from this point going forward. we sitting at the table. we developing programming from the funds that's generated as a result of the indictment. i am in favor of the establishment immediately of a foundation where georgetown the jesuit as as well as the catholic church partners with the decedents so that we can have the -- come to the table and be empowered to elevate our decedents to elevate them to improve the quality of their lives, of our lives.

on this tuesday. beautiful day outside. meanwhile inside our caitlin roth is checking some of the stories that are making headlines this morning. hi, caitlin. >> that's right. good morning to you holly. first up, arkansas says it's determined to carry it double echoing later this week. despite a ruling from the u.s. supreme court that spared the life of an inmate. don davis was scheduled to die by lethal inject last night. it's the second time he's received a last minute reprieve from the courts. arkansas has scheduled several executions before the end of the month. when one its lethal injection drugs will expire. nearly a year after prince's death new documents reveal a doctor prescribed oxycodone to th late music legend under a different name. instead of writing the drugs out in prince's real name, it was written for prince's long-time friend and associate kirk johnson. the documents suggest the pop star was struggling with an addiction to prescription opioids. and right here fox5 exclusive caught on camera. a brawl on a bus

the shoulders of so many dancers who have fought and fought for me to be in this position, and so i feel like i represent all of them, it's an easier, um, thing to kind of take on when you don't feel like it's just you. it's like i'm this vessel for so many people, um, you know in the future and in the past. >> your book encourages women to love themselves and become the best version of themselves. what it hard to speak out about your personal struggles or did you want to do that to encourage other people. >> yeah, i feel like i especially as performers and i think the reason that people don't really understand how, um, how difficult it is and how athletic it is we make so hard to make look evident less people have this idea it's really ease seize and we're just kind of up there twirling around. i want to be human to people. i want them to know that just because
