until 5:15 for the district. for montgomery and you can see that's a very much a small section of montgomery county that's affected. but into prince george's county, and you know, they were hard hit in prince george's county last night, so not only is there hail, let me show you that we're also seeing a little indication of a bit of rotation and off that is the case when you have hail with these storms. this is where we're seeing some hail being reported that has been moving out loudoun county. the hail is getting more intense and be aware of that. tremendous amount of lightening. 102 lightening strikes in last 30 minutes as this storm is moving to the east, southeast about 30 miles an hour. we still have a few more storms but there's a frontal boundary that will sweep most of this out of here in the next few hours, but again, i'm going to go

this storm, but i do believe there's something -- this is is not quite as big but moving along interstate 70. let's put that in motion so you have as much lightening still a significant storm, this is the biggest one down to our south here's a few more moving down into charles county. let's give that a little bit of motion and you can see moving due west to east but not as much lightening with it. and not seeing any indications of hail. so our severe weather right up in here, and again, that is going to continue until 5:15, seems to be intensifying, so i would not be surprised anne arundel county as this heads in your direction, you may also be seeing a severe thunderstorm warning going up. let's look one more time at the lightening, i'll put a box around this and that's again now we're up to about 178 lightening strikes, just in the last 30 minutes with this storm. so again, very serious storm -- neck, one more thing i'd love to do here, and that is put

see where this is going to be heading in the next while. land um seabrook, buoy about 64 minutes as we get towards annapolis, again, very strong storm not again widespread but the ones that we do have, because of the temperature that we had today as well as the amount of humidity in the air producing the gusty winds, we had a lot of trees come down last night. we want you to be aware of that, especially around the dellfy road area in prince george's county. trees always serious concern. you look at radar, i can hear dinging. i want to make sure we don't have anything new. we're still getting reports of penny size hail. we got a report of golf ball size hail out of

park. and we're going to take a peak to see as we look at this hail area here, how big possibly is this hail getting, and that's golf ball size hail. putting this in motion the last hour, you can see the direction that it is going, that is moving more to the south, and we can even put a little bit of a tracker on that, not sure that the hail will last that long, an indicator that this storm as a central rotation maybe capable of producing a week tornado. 25 minutes to land um and we'll get back to the radar quickly. see if we can move that on, there you go with our lightening strikes. i'll erase those, but it might be helpful to take the lightening off for a second so you can see where the strongest of the storm is and if we have to kind of get an indicator on

radar. do you see that bright area? that dark red area along 410 university park, that may be where the large hail is. the plenty to keep track of. the severe thunderstorm warning will continue until 5:15, i'll let you know if i get any others being reported but large hail is a concern with this, lightening is a concern. winds gusting to 60 capable of taking down trees also of concern. a few more hours until the front swings on through and we should be able to chase the severe weather out of here, we will not be done with rain, you're not going to believe. we're going from 80's, to 50's, cloudy chilly, less thunderstorm more rain activity. sarah, tisha, there's a lot to keep track of and i'll let you know if i

warnings, send me your pictures of hail on twitter or facebook and we'll share them with the viewers. back to you guys. >> thank you, sue. new tonight, an elderly man was found dead in his senior center apartment and police still have no suspects. >> investigators say the body of 77-year-old cong hu nguyen was discovered inside his apartment thursday morning. and an autopsy has now determined he was murdered. fox 5 angelie hemphill is live in fairfax. >> reporter: it's now been well over 24 hours and detectives are still on scene here, they're still combing through this apartment looking for clues as to who killed the 77-year-old man who lived here, i'm told it was a family friend who discovered his body covered in blood when she came after not hearing from him. here's a picture of 77-year-old cong hu nguyen taken two weeks ago. they were called to his

pglen senior center deceased. when they arrived, investigators noticed trauma to nguyen's upper body and an autopsy revealed he had been murdered. however, no other details how he was killed have been released. i did ask investigators if they think the suspect knew the victim or if this could be a random crime with a potential threat to public safety. at this point, they say they cannot rule that out as they still don't know a motive or have any suspect description. they're urging anyone with information to come forward. family and friends of the victim tell me they're just too in shock to speak at me. residents here are new very concerned for their own safety >> my apartment son the woods and you walk right up from the road. there's no gate for that. i just feel real bad. i can't imagine somebody doing that. there's

in these apartments. we're basically -- anybody that wants to do something can do it. >> reporter: they also told me at first they thought nguyen may have died of natural causes but the woman who discovered his body said last night, nguyen appeared if had a dream and told her that someone had killed him. i'm also told that will nguyen had a wife and four children. we did reach out to the senior living complex here for comment but we did not hear back. live in fairfax county. angelie hemphill, fox 5 local news. new details in a murder mystery in prince george's county. police identified this woman who was stabbed and killed in forestville. investigators said she knocked on the door of a house on springdale avenue easter, later found unconscious on the for a

time later. so far, police have not identified a suspect or a m. new surveillance video showing the wanted suspects in a story we told you about first here on fox 5. four suspects viciously attacked two men on separate occasions as they walked down the street. both attacks happened last weekend along park road northwest. police believe these suspects ambushed two men, stole the cell phones and took off. if you know anything about the suspects please call police. heads up for people who live in spotsylvania county. officials are advising residents to boil their water before using it. this comes after a major water main break on route 1. residents from fredericksberg to thornburgh may be experiencing discolored water or low water pressure. county officials say they expect to lift the boil water notice within three days. an

police are still investigating a burglary that happen in an apartment building last month >> tonight new video of a person of interest in the case. take a good look at this video, dc police need your help identifying this person of interest. he's wanted for stealing this bike from an apartment building on the 1900 block of florida avenue northwest. it happened back on march 15th.

deciding which one he wanted before cutting it down with bolt cutters, he attempted to take a second bike. police are asking anyone to give them a call if you recognize him. take extra care getting behind the wheel jumping on a bike or crossing a street. the prince william's county police department initiated its street smart campaign. >> it's added enforcement to insure the safety of pedestrians, there have been five deaths in the past two years. grant money will pay for officers to work overtime to look for violators. matt ackland has more. >> reporter: authorities say this extra enforcement will take place during rush hour in the morning and evenings. they talked to us at this intersection along route one. this is the scene of a pedestrian fatality. they're not just going after people who drive, they will be ticketing

pedestrians >> people are more distracted more likely to be on their phones, shaving, doing makeup, not paying attention >> shawn murphy is leading the campaign, he and other officers across the county will be writing tickets. seen and be seen, be more aware and slow down. >> reporter: their aim isn't punishment as much as it is awareness, along route one, we noticed a number of safety concerns, some crossing without a crosswalk. others not stopping at the red light, instead just rolling through, authorities will be on the look-out for speeders and those who don't have lights on. >> we see crashes that could be the fault of the vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist, we want to encourage peanut butter to be responsible and more safe. >> reporter: one more thing that he points out, unlike many places, crosswalks are not on a timer here in prince william's

details about a murder inside a college park apartment building. investigators are searching for two suspects who robbed and killed mr. farley. lindsay watts spoke to a neighbor first to help the victim after hearing the gunfire. >> reporter: the men accused of murder were caught on camera as they entered the victim's apartment building. police announced thursday they caught the guy in the red hat. but investigators are still searching for this man, and a third suspect who comes in after the first two. police say they shot and killed raul farley. >> we heard a guy yelling and screaming >> jason roberts was inside his apartment when he heard the commotion. >> i learned my head out and one apartment over, he's begging and sees me open the door and stick my head out. he's got blood all over his shirt and hands. he had knock on like ten

apartments, he said nobody would answer or open up >door. >> he's dying, he's dying. can somebody help? i tell my brother right in the foyer i told him to call 911. >> reporter: according to charging documents, farley thought he was buying a laptop from the suspect. but they came to steal from him. he was killed when he and his friend tried to stop the robbery. friend say farley was a business owner and a father. loved by many. >> i knew who he was. i seen him in an apartment complex. he walked past my apartment couple times, we'd say hi, whatever, in passing. >> reporter: robert said weeks later, what happened seems surreal. he opens the two remaining suspects are caught before they hurt someone else. >> this is scary, they can do that so easily to somebody over something to stupid like a computer, whatever they were arguing about. and they're out here. worrisome they can

someone else. apparently they don't have any regard for anybody's safety or life >> that was lindsay watts reporting. if you have information about those two suspect, contact police at 1866-437-tips. dc police need your help tonight finding the suspects in a frightening armed robbery and double shooting in southeast back on april 7th on the 2500 block of alvin's road. the victims met up were any group of people at this location to buy a car that was advertised online. but instead of paying, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the victims. they both survived. the suspect stole the victim's property and then took off. if you have any information, call police. days after former new england patriots aaron hernandez killed himself in prison, the family of the man he murdered is speaking out. ur

now that hernandez is dead. she's urging the new england patriots to quote become champions of justice to pay the $16 million after the team refused after he was charged with murder. hernandez was in the process of appealing when he apparently killed himself. under massachusetts law convictions of defendants before appeals are heard are usually vacated that could clear the way to pay hernandez's estate. if the team paid ward could get acces to some of it since her family is still pursuing a wrongful death suit against the hernandez estate. >> it's not about a separate case. it's about my son. it's about families that lost their loved ones, and we need justice. >> reporter: ward said if the patriots pay up. she would donate some money to fund scholarships in her son's name. she said she would pay support to families of other murder victims whose death do not receive media coverage. a wild scene in

is draggedby a truck for miles. and it was all caught on camera. >> my god. >> incredible video. you can see the driver waiving for help after the car got stuck on this big rig. the driver was dragged for more than four miles before another driver maneuvered in front of the truck forcing to it stop, the truck driver said he didn't even realize the car was stuck, amazingly, the man in the car was not hurt. >> that is crazy video right there. wow. a westminster maryland man is recovering from burns after his boat exploded. you see the black smoke rising, michael france

treatment of second degree burns, boating with his father, one of them was refueling and the boat exploded and both men ended up in the water. a charter boat captain managed to tow them away from the pier and into deeper water. let's take a look outside once again. overcast in some area, probably getting some rain and nasty weather. we certainly are sarah and tisha, i have an update now, the worst of the weather is pretty much exiting the beltway on the east side. warning that had been in effect for the district has been dropped because the storm moved out of the district. but it's going to continue for prince george's county, the southern tip of st. george's county. the big concern is the large hail they have been producing and gusts to nearly 60 miles an hour. the possibility of a bit

right in this region where you seehe east side of the beltway, that is part of the storm that is likely continuing to produce the hail. i'm going to put this in motion for last hour and you can see that it's seems to be getting a little bit weaker. i also see evidence of the fact that the hail is not as bad as it was but these are all of the hail reports. one of the largest was in takoma park with hail of almost 1.8 inches. i'm multitasking, got a new report froms silver springs. i'm going to show you where the storm is and where the hail will likely track and that will be moving out of prince george's county and into chesapeake beach if it doesn't run out of hail stones for them. this is the hail that we've been

watch this track all the way from montgomery county intensified the southern montgomery county and across the northern portion of the district and into prince george's county and looks to me and i'm going to pause this, is it starting to get stronger again right around the 495 area. in this area right here, boarded by fairmount heights, walker mill, ketyerring and lake arbor, you may still have more to deal with. i also wanted to show you we don't see too much behind it. looking around down to the south, the storm in waldorf not quite as strong is this one, we're not done with rain, while we get this through and maybe settle down later. more rain is in the forecast. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. a busy weather night. we'll have a look at your seven-day forecast later. come on back. ♪ ♪

this is fox 5 local news at 5:00 a look at more top stories tpolice captured an inmate who walked away from howard county general hospital. 52-year-old timothy powers was being treated at the hospital when he walked out around 8:00 last night. officers finally found him in laurel this afternoon and was taken into custody. take a good look at this video right here. dc police need your help identifying a person of interest in a burglary. it happened early tuesday morning at an apartment building on the 1200 block of massachusetts avenue in northwest. police say the suspect walked into the mail room and took off

with several packages here, if you recognize him, call police. police also need your help to find two men who attempted to rob a business in northeast. this one happened eight days ago on michigan avenue. put despite breaking into the business and pointing a gun at the store's employees, they didn't get any money. isn't the first time targeted >> alexandra limon is live with us with more on this. >> reporter: i spoke to one employee held up at gunpoint. he says they're so worried about their safety they normally close at 8:00 p.m., for now, you can see they're closing at 3:00 ins instead. >> reporter: this is surveillance video from april 13th of an attempted robbery. it was quick but frightening for jason king and his wife. who were closing up the coffee shop that night. >> a guy

my wife believed it was a customer. she said, we closed the store. but she -- one more time, and my wife feel like, this is something wrong. maybe he can be a robber. >> reporter: the reason is because this happened before. in february, dc police released video of this robbery in which into a secure area where the ay- registers and proceeds from lottery ticket sales are kept. king believes those thieves came back >> it was same amount of people. they treat family. >> reporter: this time his wife slammed the door shut before the thieves could make it into the

enclosure. >> the robbers kept asking us open the door but i didn't open it because i wasn't sure what they going to do. >> reporter: according to the police report, king shielded his wife until the gunman left. king said one of the men fired a gun and the bullet chip off a piece of the counter. the hope is someone in the community can identify the suspect whose were wearing hoods and shielded their faces from the security cameras. i'm also told some employees at this business have quit over the safety concerns, the owners say they plan to hire security guards and dc police sent the business an e-mail saying they will have extra patrols in the area of minnesota and eastern avenue in northeast. if you have information, you're asked to call police, i'm alexandria hoff fox 5 local news a memorial service was held for the soldier killed

hawk helicopter crash. they were paying their respects to army specialist jeremy tomlin kill during a routine training flight. two others were also hurt. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. new developments overseas involving the investigation into thursday's attack on police in paris. one police officer was killed. two others injured by a known extremist who was then shot and killed by responding officers, he's been identified as kareem, turphy. a report on his car turned up a should go and knives. investigators say the attacker was carrying a note that praised isis and listed the addresses of security sites today, kellyanne conway spoke out saying the president is committed to stopping attacks like this both at home and abroad.

hard maple leafs fans. they were flaunting them they were in people's faces. i guess, each fan, just figure we have to win, so we can make those kids quiet >> thanks borrowed. canadians are very forgiving. appreciate it. let's see how to things are moving around with the weather, sue palka what's the latest with those storms? are they heading out >> they are but we still got active warnings and this storm is still producing damage. we're getting a lot of reports. two pages worth, really hard hit in montgomery county around chef chase and also towards takoma park. they're areas we saw the worst with the hail. now these have just been extended minutes ago. the severe thunderstorm warning was continued until 6:30 for anne arundel, calvert and also as we head into prince george's county. now, that storm is moving to the southeast at a

hour. and it is still capable o gusts to 60 miles an hour. these are few of the reports that we've had and you can see the trees down and you can also see the hail, so that's from southern montgomery. it didn't quite get into the district. and then over here into portions of northern prince george's county. one of the largest reported out of takoma park. that's almost golf ball size, others said ping-pong, and here's where the storm is. it's still possibly producing hail. moving southeast. across prince george's county, just south of shady side toward till man island. if it holds together, let me tell you it has been holding together. you may still continue to see hail here across southern anne arundel county. there's a new storm, not as big, but there could be small hail around alexandria and

put this in motion. it started up in montgomery county. it would diminish a little bit as it came through portions of northwest earn prince george's county and then it looks right now as though it is getting weaker. here's where that hail may be right around in here. we can even take a quick look a. the storm definitely looks like it is weaker. i know we have been having our crews scramble to get pictures of trees. this is a tree that came down on a house in chevy chase and we understand there's to significant damage to the home on linwood place, this extends from river road, actually, there was collision up there to demascus to connecticut and rockville pike. we've got trees down just about everywhere. if you look beyond the tree, the sky is blue. we've cleared out. i'm

weather once we get this one going. of course, later tonight, tomorrow might be a different story. let's go back and show you our radar again because there's another storm we're watching around the heartwood area and this could be producing a little bit of small hail. as we look back to the west, there's a frontal boundary coming through, that's going to push a lot of this out of here. we'll still have to monitor central virginia maybe even northern virginia, because yikes, the pipeline is getting pretty full folks. there is another big area of low pressure that's going to be tracking along the frontal boundary and coming through our area. now, we've got quite a bit of rain cool, but still areas that have not seen the rain, i wanted to show you the contrast. between tonight and tomorrow, we're looking at temperatures in 50's and low 60's tomorrow. we were in the 80's today. we're expecting to see the warm air vacate and much cooler air coming

with rounds of rain, i wouldn't quite call it a wash-out. sunday may not be quite as wet but it will be fairly cool soggy. 63 tomorrow showers off and on the heaviest rain maybe tomorrow into the first part of sunday then it should taper off sunday to just showers but an inch and a half of rain could be doable. not so much thunderstorms just cool rain and we're hard pressed to ditch this pattern on monday and tuesday. it may take until tuesday before we can get more warm air in here and more sunshine upper 70's maybe first 90-degree day, sarah and tisha. ar crime from today, we'll continue to monitor these showers and storms and have another update for you in a few minutes at 6:00. >> at least it will be washing away the pollen. speaking of allergy season when it comes to giving, allergy medication to kids, most parents are doing it all wrong. >> we'll explain how next in our health watch.

childhood allergy, many parents have trouble with giving children the proper allergy medicine. researchers surveyed more than 1,000 parents. they found 15% have given their child an adult form of the medicine, and 21% say they had trouble figuring out what it does -- which medicine to give their child. the study also found nearly 20% of the parents didn't check the expiration date on the medication, researchers say, if you're sure as always, check with your doctor. one university is raying eyebrows for becoming the first to have a vending machine that offers plan b, also known as the morning after
