85 and sunny. sunshine at last. guys, seven day we'll talk weekend coming up in a couple of minutes. back to you. >> all right. tuck. want to get to breaking news first off at 9:00 o'clock this morning. concerning the red line at me metro. reports of smoke in the tunnel between farragut north and metro center. still not clear this hour what caused that smoke. service on the red line has been restored within the last few minutes but they are still single tracking between farragut north and judiciary square. so expect delays still on the red line this morning. ♪ happening now in delaware, an end to a more than 20 hour standoff involving a man police say shot and killed a stair state trooper. just a short timing a ambulance was wort reportedly seen leaving the neighborhood where the suspect had barricaded himself overnight. but the condition of the suspect is unclear. trooper stephen ballard was gunned down yesterday afternoon in a convenience store parking lot. >> we also have learned that the trooper is from our region in prince george's county. melanie alnwick joins us now from the newsroom with very latest in this story. mel. >> ror

our colleagues on the scene report that state trooper said the situation is quote taken care of though there's still an active police operation in the neighborhood and many of corporal ballard's friends have changed their facebook profiles to a police badge with a blue line throughout. it. his page says he's from bowie, married. and overnight, the suspect continued to fire shots at police. the gunman was hiding out in a house in residential neighborhood 15 miles away from the shooting scene. overnight homes shook witness sound of explosive blasts and gunfire. terrified neighbors could hear police on bull horns trying to talk the suspect out. yesterday evening, end of watch. the duty no officer ever wants to do a sea of blue uniforms here outside the hospital where 32-year-old trooper steve ballard passed away the solemn escort for a 9-mile trip taking ballard's body to the medical examiner' office. people along the procession saluted put their hands on their hearts and wiped away tears. >> i was down the

simplify tax filing. under the plan, there would be a 15% tax rate for corporations and small businesses. it would reduce the number of personal income tax brackets from seven to three. which waits of 10%, 25% and 35%. additionally low and middle income americans would benefit by doubling the standard deduction for maryland couples to $24,000 meaning those earnings would not be taxed. earlier today we spoke with virginia senator tim kaine on what he thinks about the president's tack cut plan. >> very to you details. i mean what's if this were knacked something like this it would be a massive give away to president trump and his family so i mean it's a plan that's good for him. i want to see a plan that's good for regular people and small businesses. that's what i'm going to be looking for. so right now without any details it's difficult to say. the other thing we have to look at is how do you pay for it? because if you're just going to dramatically increase the deficit and then, what, what do

from the chinese, sell bonds to the chinese to pay for the deficit spending that this tax plan would produce? so we've got to see more details, but the feature that seems obvious right out of the gate is it would be great if you're president trump. >> still a long way to go. the president's plan now would have have to he had had to capitol hill. lawmakers killed other efforts to change the tack code in the past. >> this morning fire crews are still on the scene of where a massive fire ripped through an apartment complex in college park on monday. bob bar far this morning live in college park with more on why this fire still demanding firefighters attention more than 72 hours after it first started. bob? >> reporter: steve, because there's still some hot spots up toward the roof. there's a lot of activity outside this building still this morning. most of it is actually sure up the property here. but there is one ladder truck the ladder is down now but it had been up most of the morning and we were told at one point it was pouring 250 gallons a minute of water on this

there are four locations up in the roof area where flames are still erupting and some of the construction people here this morning said there were flames before we got here in the overnight hours that the fire crews were still having to deal with. now, the fire is deep seeded into the rubble we're told. and that's why it is still burning 72 hours later. burning since monday. now there is we are told in many nearly completed apartment complex high end luxury apartment complex sprinkler system that was installed but not yet connected to the water supply, of course, there are& fire doors that would be in there that would help to stop the fire but they had not been put in place yet either. and we're toll investigators still can't get inside to examine the area where they believe the fire started. that's because the rooftop is still unstable. parts of this building the seven-story, two-storied apartment complex will have to come down. we believe one will be pres preserved. the ground floor

students experiencing this. what is your message to men who are engaging in stealthing not realizing the harmful nature of it all. >> they're engaging in rape. >> d.c. rape crisis center executive director says victims of this sexual trend started calling the hotline couple months ago and picked up in the last 30 days. the biggest obstacle apparently most victims don't really know how to verbalize exactly what has happen. court system has reportedly not named addressed the stealthing practice. of course this could all change now that the act is getting so much attention. >> i think it's really hurtful for our teenagers today. >> i don't think that that's okay in any form ever. i think violation of consensual sex. >> invasion of trust and rape culture. it's just -- it's very unexcusable. >> even though it's really bad i don't think it's rape because you did give consent. >> to me that is a form of rape. >> i wouldn't put it in t

that it is a violation of like a woman's, um, privacy. >> has as you just heard area college students have mixed reactions about stealthing most do agree that removing a condom without consent and posting about it online is some type of violation. the awareness about the trend comes on the heels of this columbia journal of gender and law report by dc based national women's law center attorney alexandra. stealthing exposes victims to pregnancy and disease and transforms consensual sex into non-consensual sex. she goes on to describe stealthing as sexual violence. the stealthing trend is also taking place among gay men. so there's a whole lot that's wrong with this whole thing. obviously, the practice of doing it itself, the posting it online, via social media, um, but it's happening. it's out there. and clearly people need to be aware of it

or maybe even a thunderstorm later tonight. so keep that in mine get daytime heating this frontal system will come in probably between about 11:00 and 2:00 in the morning and could bring us a few showers we'll get clouds ahead of it later this afternoon there we are at 9:30 tonight. you can see it's trying to fire up a little thunderstorm complexion off to our north and west. per happen another one off to our south and west. we'll see what happens the bottom line we have a chance for a few showers late tonight. if you got softball that kind of thing under the lights before 11 i think you're fine. but after that we'll get some showers. then we should gradually clear out tomorrow morning. by tomorrow afternoon we'll be back in the 80s with pleasant conditions expected around here and it should be a very nice friday afternoon perfect for happy hour tomorrow afternoon and then by saturday, believe it or not we can do 90 degrees. our first of 2017. we've got some very hot temperatures at least i think it's hot, hot and humid for saturday. maybe thunderstorm on saturday. little cooler on sunday. bounce around. but the bottom line we don't have any extreme heat next week and we have weather day next

kind of work with simone every day teach her how to dance i mean gymnasts it doesn't come easy dancing is very different to gymnastics and she puts in so much hard work and dedication and sometimes you don't get to see the full process of it you just see the finish product, and i mean the process is soiree w warring to see simone start not knowing this dance and then s slowly bill to the final dale she performs it it really is magic. >> what have you learned from working with sasha because you have such great chemistry which adds to the dance routine? >> hear this giggle. úi learned a lot. i feel like as time has gone by we're at week seven really week eight i've learn a lot from hill and i think i've matured a lot and i've shown other emotional sides that i would have never done before. but he bring out sides nobody does. >> like she just said, you know, coming in from week one just seeing her perform in one week, she's truly just grown so much as a person and experiencing and showing all these emotions that she's never had t

different backgrounds and really important people in the music industry walk not subway. >> how long after you started playing in the subways did it takes for things to start to pick up as opposed to people walking by, people starting to stop seeing the same people over and over. >> immediately musically there was something to harness there and immediately people were stopping but it took us probably six months to kind of like form because originally we didn't have a name and it was just something we were doing for fun for extra cash. so probably six months until it was like a thing and we had a name for our band and started playing gigs outside of the subway. >> was it always this style. have you changed the style as you've gone along? >> well i mean when we first started we like i said there's no preconceived notion or idea of what we were going to do. we kind of just met in the subway. and the two of them had been playing in the subway together before i had joined, um, early on, and they had already ind of had a vibe and we just came together and just through pl
