a terrifying taxi ride. we'll break down what led to the frightening ordeal. the news at 10:00 starts now. you know who your kids are talking to? predators are hoping you aren't paying attention. a sting in northern virginia is catching predators before they get to kids. thanks for joining i'm shawn yancy >> i'm tony perkins. police arrested eight men accused of trying to range sex with children online. little did they know those kids were actually police officers. local police and the fbi work together in the operation. >> lindsey watts is live in fairfax with the latest on how this went down. lindsey? >> reporter: shawn and tony, i asked police today, what parents would be most surprised to to know about these kind of operations? and the response was, parents need to know just how easy it is for predators to make contact on the internet. when kids are playing out in public, doing sports, it can be obvious when

approaches, but online, much harder to know exactly who is reaching out. >> it's easy to make the contact. that's what's so fright among. >> reporter: investigators were i fairfax county loudoun and the fbi teamed up to target online predators in a three-day sting. police don't want to get too specific about their tactic, but in these operations, they utilize social media sites, chat rooms >> a lot of times it seems to be around 14 years old >> girls and boys can be targets >> likely for a young boy to be solicited as it is for a young girl >> fairfax police says investigators often don't have to go searching for predators. >> it can be instantaneous. from the time they sign on start a conversation. the response, the images, the requests, they're

instantaneous >> eight men were busted. seven have been identified. some were arrested when they showed up to meet the so-called child. they're 20 to 64 years old. we found some are fathers, one of men is already a registered sex offender. >> i'm glad to hear they found quite a few predators. >> reporter: we talked to parents about how they minority their kids online >> main policy is they won't have access to online or social media >> we use program called custodio, tracks their time and sites and limits them from going to bad places >> i monitor him with other activities outside the home, same applies with computers. >> reporter: this dad spreads the word to help other parents keep kids safe >> people need to know about computers. i passed a church and tell parents all the time, make sure you know how to

so that when your child gets access to the internet, you know how to put controls, you know, how to monitor, things like that. >> reporter: police have similar advice, they say watch your kids activity closely online and let your children know that you are watching. we did ask fairfax county specifically where they went online, and investigators did not want to reveal that, they said once predators know police are watching they will find another place, another way to target kids. live in fairfax, lindsey watts fox 5 local news. developing, another hateful incident on a local college campus. this time a georgetown university. anti-semitic graffiti. >> reporter: this now a criminal investigation, anti-semitic

graffiti was discovered. you can take a look at those pictures inside men's rest room on campus found at the levy on campus, all the stall doors had a fresh coat of paint, the bathroom is adjacent to the gathering space. it reads in part we strongly condemn this act of hate as a catholic and jesuit university, we're committed to fostering a committee welcoming to people of all faiths and values diversity inclusion and respect. this act of anti-semitism has no place on our campus. this was a response from the campus community. >> i think the university handled it well. not very much discrimination or bias. but when there is the

department says they're investigating the incident and increased the patrols here on campus and are coordinating with the dc police department to get to the bottom of who was behind the graffiti. in georgetown marina marraco fox 5 local news. talk about a terrifying ride. a taxicab driver is arrested after he reported's abducted his passengers. the incident happened early saturday morning, the driver remains behind bars with no bond. tisha. >> reporter: this cab driver picked up three women somewhere here in the district. then drove them to wood bridge. that's in northern virginia. when they reached their destination at some point, there was a dispute about the fare. shortly after 3:00 in the morning, between 30-year-old

three female passengers who questioned the fare once they arrived here on nasan drive. this was supposed to be the destination, once the passengers said they could not pay, he locked the doors and drove to a nearby business here on mapledale avenue in wood bridge, ignored repeated questions and requests for him to stop. the victims are 22, 29 and 32 years old. during the incident, one of the girls was able to get in touch with a family member. who called police. >> about ten minutes after they called the family member, they were able to to reach up into the front part of the vehicle, unlock the door and jump out of the taxi as it was moving. they actually were able to get out. when they got into a car with a family member they followed until we were able to respond. >> reporter: the neighbors describe

said hi and bye to, they were surprised to hear of this. well is charged with three abduction charges. we found one of the victims off camera and visibly shaken by the incident but not did want to talk about on camera. the manhunt for a sexual assault suspect in northern virginia. >> he posed as a maintenance worker then forced his way into a woman's apartment. how you can help coming up. honoring the lives of officers in our region who made the ultimate sacrifice >> as we head to break, happy news, a family of ducks is safe tonight. thanks to first responders in the district. eight little ducklings fell down into that storm drain at 12th and main avenue in southwest. mama duck stood by as dc fire and animal control crews rescued her babies

this video of a checkout line gone viral. the story behind the exchange. forget about the cake of the photo shoots, one couple using the capitol wheel for the gender reveal. news at 10:30 starts now. >> let's get going i am joel >> i'm shawn yancy, first top story, a sting in northern virginia put eight child predators behind bars. lindsey watts. >> reporter: if you're familiar with the show to catch a predator you know how this went down, investigators posed as young teenagers and these men tried to solicit them for sex and were arrested. most were from virginia. one from maryland. fairfax county police was the lead agency with help from loudoun county and the fbi. investigators say it's a reminder to monitor your children's activity. .
