stuff. we appreciate the weather. thank you. 9:03. we begin with breaking news out of fairfax county the manhunt for an armed carjacking suspect is now over. >> he was taken into custody just a short timing a in alexandria. not far from where he's accused of stealing a woman's car from a gas station. fox5 was the only station there when the suspect was arrested. our melanie alnwick joining us live now with that exclusive video. good morning. mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys. fairfax county police made that arrest literally right here. right along fair haven street. that was after they had been searching the wood line along fair haven street and the neighborhoods all back in here for good two hours it began about 60:00 sick this morning. headlights take to you that exclusive video. when we arrived here at north kings highway and fair haven avenue, that is where we saw police just as they had put a suspect into a fairfax county police cruiser. they've also needed to bring the victim from the carjacking in so

identify the suspect who car carjacked her earlier this morning. many, many resources used in this search including heli helicopters and police dogs as well. the car was carjack at the bp gas station on telegraph road. the suspect appeared to display a handgun. he took a woman's blue nissan rogue. police actually saw him and caught up with him a short time later. that is when on edge hill road near telegraph he bailed out of the vehicle and ran inside that car officers told me they found a machete and a pellet gun. the suspect then continued making his way on foot through the enableds near schools for about half mile. the dogs tracked him back behind brown academy. that school was put on a two-hour delay. and then that wood line between fair haven and school street. there are other schools that were affected as

including mount eagle elementary school. students hadn't arrived yet but they were put on a secure st status. they also i'm told that k9s found a jacket and a machete. a second machete in the wood line in that area and so they knew that they were getting very close here to finding the suspect they believe that he was in the area. then apparently he did ditched his shirt and then began to just kind of walk along the street and that is when fairfax county police grabbed him, arrested him, put him in that vehicle. held him until they were able to make a positive id which then they were allowed to do. back out life here now you can see the school buses arriving here. we'll show you pictures right now of the suspect also fairfax county police did tweet this out kind of a scary picture of the suspect there running between houses and here now you can see things look -- are back to normal here on north kings highway as families are dropping off their childre

♪ these planes are rocking up in the sky in the middle of the eye of the hurricane and hurricane season is almost here. so we're learning more about what it takes to pre dick the storms and we're doing it with help from some of the hurricane hunters. the name of the plains. >> mike thomas is live at reagan national airport this morning. he's got all the details. good morning, mike. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you allison down here at reagan national. they got great event going on today. the first time all four, four of these hurricane hunter aircraft that is go these hurricanes they gather data for us and help us predict these types o

all four of them will be at reagan national. you can come down here free of charge and take tours and talk to some of the pilots and they'll be presentations going on. we are going to talk to one of the pilots ours. thank you so much for joining us what's your name. >> commander doug mack inn tire. >> commander, thank you so much for talking to us this morning. >> certainly. >> of course the question on everybody's mind what's it like flying one of these planes into a hurricane? >> well this planes are high altitude jet going 45,000 feet above the storm loon, at upper level winds and the steering winds and seeing where the storm is going to go. >> okay. so this is important for us why i guess. >> we're trying to improve that forecast model. where is the storm going to go? where are the steering winds and upper mose so scale weather patterns driving the storm right, left, to the north, scott south we want to know where the storm is going to be heading so we can n people and let them know where they shall be preparing for the storm. >> so these planes are of course have tons of special equipment on them. what some of the special things you can show us here that make this possible? >> well as you see here on the

modified ray dome and housing 3s the image of the storm in front of us and what's behind that cloud we also on the tale of the plane big giant probe holding a tale doppler radar. you may be familiar with doppler radars with the weather station getting a cross second of the storm almost going through a layered cake of what the storm looks like and how it's behaving in real time. >> this all gets fed into of course o weather computers we as forecasting meteorologists use to get better idea where the storm is going to go. >> absolutely. we're taking the data real time from the sensors beaming via satellite to the weather sent into ingest into the forecast models. in real time. >> okay. now, question for all the kids out there. any soar of the like special training for to become one of these hurricane hunters? how do you become one? >> i've been with the noaa core for 16 years and flying with the weather center and with the other noaa agencies for just over 13 years and it's been a lot of fun and take dedication and whole lot

right now with the jet i've been on four years under the supervision and tutelage of many other officers i'm now the aircraft chapter and taking the plane into many storms on my o own. >> okay. are you expecting or excited for the upcoming hurricane season? >> no one is ever excited to see one of these big storm storms getting near land do you get a little bit of energy a new hurricane pops up in the atlantic. >> absolutely. flying a storm is one of the best challenges i've come across in my career. we never want to bring that storm home with us so tow speak. owe want to be out there flying around keep peeping safe. >> final question i don't the answer to. when you fly one much these things this is high altitude you have ones that go directly into the storm. is it stable or lot of shaking. >> absolutely. down about 10,000 feet they're getting bounced around quite a bit. up there at 45 we'll be getting bumps ail well more a kin to commercial airliner other jets or other p3 owe ryans and c130s definitely get bounced around quite a bit. >> commander, thank you so much for joining us this

really early -- at an early age, because by two years old maybe two and a half years old, my mom decided to get married and my stepfather was not going to have my father have some guy she had that baby by coming around so what happened was, they decided that they would kind of share me and they agreed they came to an agreement to let me stay with my father doing the school years even stayed with my mom in the summer. and growing up around my dad i just always saw him performing. i never really knew it was fame or pig anything because i was too young to realize that, but, um, growing up seeing him on stage with all kind of famous people, i just was happy to know that he was somebody but it really didn't hit me until i was maybe about ten years old. that's when i realized how famous he was. at first i just saw him doing music.
