alex? >> reporter: well imagine being raped or sexually assaulted, and then having to see your attacker in class, or worse, having to live with them in the same dorm building. that's what these howard university student say happened to them after the university failed to takings. >> these young women experienced sexual assault and they were not supported by the university. >> the historically black college in washington dc was slapped with a lawsuit wednesday. five female student allege inaction, and miss handling every investigations, after they reported rapes and sexual assaults on campus. some of the women say they were harassed, and confronted by their attackers, after reporting what happened. and they claim the university did nothing. >> no means no. no means no. >> report in march of last year protest broke out, there was a fire storm on twitter after two of the victims discovered they were attacked by the

>> our clients perspective is that if the university had taken action on that first report he may not have been on campus, he may not have ever met our other client, and she may not have been attacked. >> you know the hashtag no means no, actually like spread around campus, twitter, social media, all of that, people really started having discussing like conversations about that on campus. >> one of those women who spoke out on twitter says the dean of student affairs at howard university told her, quote, you embarrased your family by doing that. another woman suing the school claims her attacker was a campus police officer who sexually and physically assaulted her. all five women claim their cases were investigated slowly, if at all. lawsuit state the school didn't provide appropriate counselling or accommodations to extends school deadlines after they were attacked. >> they have experienced

depression, they've been suicidal, and they express those things to the university, and still the university failed to act. >> now, we reached out to the director of the title nine office. she would have been the person in charge of overseeing these investigations to ask her for an interview. she directed us to the communications office who just ten minutes ago sent us a statement that says in part sexual assault is a critical issue on campuses across higher education, howard university takes a very seriously all allegations of sexual assault, sexual harrass. , domestic violence and gender-based discrimination. it also says that out of consideration for the privacy of all individuals involved, and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on pending you can see the full statement from howard university as well as the full 71-page lawsuit, on our

for now reporting live in northwest dc, alexandra lemone, fox5 local news. >> new tonight, federal officials announcing massive operation has rounded up criminal gang members, linked to legal immigration, both here in d.c., maryland, virginia, and across the country. >> fox5, tom fitzgerald, pointed comments for local leaders around here? >> reporter: jim, he sure did, this operation started six weeks ago, was revealed for the first time today, in all, 1,370 people, 78 people, arrested, $491,000 seized and 238 illegal weapons taken off the street. the list of crimes here, it is a laundry list, ranking from drug smuggling, weapons violations, prostitution, racketeering, and murder. now, take a look at this video that was

of this operation in effect. now, we are told here locally, in d.c., maryland, and virginia, 52 individuals were rounded up as part of this anti-gang operation. more than half were members of the group ms13. this includes 11 individuals who were arrested after suspicions about a house in fairfax county was involved in sex trafficking, fairfax county police, ice saying tonight were instrumental in those arrests. now, this comes in the wake of just this spring, immigrations and customs enforcement officials adding montgomery county maryland and bridges george's county to list of communities that do not honor ice, today the director of ice telling fox5, actions like sanctuary effort to cross this country and here in our area, he says, put police and the public at risk. >> when they get released, when our

about this major issue that we've been investigating. i just got the results of a new open records request back yesterday and it shows there have been 788 cases where staff members in the district have been accused of child abuse or misconduct. we've been talking to a lot of staff members about this and what they say is this isn't an issue of widespread abuse but the result of new policies that have just gone overboard. policies that were put in place after some high profile recent child abuse cases in prince george's county. some staff members tells it's now to the point that if you even touch a child at all, you run the risk of being put on leave and that students know they can make up allegations to get rid of teachers they don't like. most of those staff members who are accused of abuse and up on paid leave so teachers are removed from their classrooms sometimes for months on end as they're under investigation we talked to a long time substitute and former d.c. cop who was accused and then cleared. she says she won't go back to teaching for

because it's too risky. >> i was cleared of all charges but you disciplined me. i was guilty first. it's something should be done. something must happen. >> reporter: there are a lot of questions that we have for this school ceo, dr. kevin maxwell primarily what's being done to prevent a repeat of this next school year. we've been unsuccessful in scheduling a sit down interview with him. i've been asking for more than a month now. we're here at this meeting to and night to talk to him and get some answers. live in upper marlboro, lindsey watts fox5 local news. >> d.c. muriel bowser held a press conference. most of it spent fielding question on whether d.c.'s former chancellor of schools kaya anderson gave special treatment to officials. not illegal but it did spark an investigation. >> seven people may have been& given special treatment.

former elected official. henderson said she did nothing wrong but tonight the mayor says she wants new rules in place for current and future chancellor. >> matt ackland following this story. matt we still don't know who these people are. >> reporter: that is the big mystery tonight, we simply don't know who these people are. the one big question is who was this former elected official? we're told that there was some mention of it in the ig report. no names keep in mind no names have been revealed by the inspector general. the one name, though, we know that is connected the deputy mayor courtney snowden. she admits she approached the chancellor because of her son's unique needs like any other parent she says could but what about others? we asked the mayor because she has had a conversation about all of this with the inspector general. >> i believe that he said that there were -- there was a cabinet member involved, government officials involved and private

but they weren't the subject of his investigation. and he was careful to say that because they weren't the subject of his investigation, and suspected of any wrongdoing, that their names would not be released. >> reporter: all right, another name that did get a lot of attention earlier today was city manager rashaad young. his name was raised as possibly being connected but the mayor's office sent us this e-mail today that say confirms mr. young's children were placed by the lottery not with the help from chancellor henderson and late today the ig sent us a statement referring to a misstatement made in the report and we learned that refers to rashaad young. as we told you last night, parents have been calling city hall upset. we asked mayor bowser what her message is for those who work under her. >> they should know that i expect -- what my expectations are for members that i appoint and for people who work in the government is that they follow the rules

act with integrity. >> big questions where is thisis public? >> reporter: well, the report is out there. it's been given to just about three people but the names are not there. i called the inspector general's office today and said will this ever be given to us. is it going to always remain confidential and they said yes and i said why? the reason why children are involved in this and they believe if you mention who the parents are, then it might identify the children and they say the children really had nothing to do with any of this and they also want to remind us this is about kaya henderson not the other people. they didn't find any wrongdoing t a lot of people said if you have connections to the mayor if you work for the mayor or if you're appointee and you ask the chancellor for help it doesn't smell right. i also asked for an interview with the inspector general's office today and was told he will not be speaking on this subject. the saga continues.

showers and thunderstorms down there. we're just not warm enough to have anything like that. we've been in the 50's all day long. baltimore is 51 degrees, leonardtown is 52, annapolis 54. way back out in winchester it's 50 degrees. give this a couple more hours and i hate to say it but with the drizzle we're going to have temperatures out there in the upper 40's so it's really going to be raw this evening. i talked about the heat. here it is down here well to the south. raleigh right now is 84. even rich richmond is stuck ine 50's right now at 56 degrees. new york city is warmer than we are at 59. binghamton real nice at 60 degrees and pittsburgh is 53. this evening's forecast showers will continue on and off for the next hour or two. i think the nats game is in pretty good shape. it's going to be a little bit wet but they should be able to get the game in. 54, 54, this is in town. out in the suburbs it will be colder than this. i just showed you a reading in winchester 50 so they could be down in the 40's over the next couple hours. we'll keep at least a chance of a shower in. once the showers move

the drizzle kind of hangs in late evening and during the overnight. here's the trend. only 58 tomorrow, we're stuck in clouds with some rain. rain continues on saturday. i think we're even colder. we're north of the low pressure so it's going to be the north so we're only 57 on- saturday and then finally, finally we're going to start going the right direction. okay, mother's day we're going for a temperature of 74 degrees so that will be so much nicer and it's pretty close to normal. we should be about 75 and then monday 76. and by next week, we're talking 80's and maybe 90 degrees out there, okay, so this weekend we do good at least for -- with showers and a pretty good rain on saturday and then for mother's day, all things are good, some sunshine, we warm back up into the 70's as high pressure kind of takes in and say to all the moms out there for monday -- for sunday more mother's day and then saturday rain and chilly so it's not the greatest of the weekends but we'll end up pretty nice it looks like. some sun breezy, 74 degrees. i got to say this just so you know, some of the models are hinting at

two on sunday but it should be real, real light and very wide widely scattered if it happens s a at all. on saturday temps in the 50's, rain and it does look like by saturday afternoon into saturday evening we'll start to dry out a little bit but it's going stay chilly and we'll have clouds in place, so, again, it just looks like the next couple of days around here are growing to be wet, wet, wet. tonight we're 51, drizzle a few showers moving through but i think mainly just cloudy and drizzly. tomorrow we'll start off with a few showers, drizzle and then we end up rainier in the afternoon, okay and tomorrow's temperature with the rain, the clouds and that east wind at five to 10 we're only going to be in the 50's so it's going to be not too terribly warm tomorrow o it's not going to feel that warm at all. winchester you're only 51. culpeper 54. and fredericksburg gets up to about 56 degrees or so. look, here's the seven-day forecast. and if you want to just jump to mother's da 7

abuse but the result of new policies that have gone overboard. policies put in place after some high profile recent child abuse cases in this district. some staff members tell us it's now to the point that if you touch a filed at all you run the risk of being put on leave and that students know they can make up allegations to get rid of teachers they don't like. most of those staff members moo are accused of abuse and up on paid leave so teachers are removed from their classrooms sometimes for months on end as they're under investigation. we talked to be a long time substitute and former d.c. cop who was accused and then cleared. she says she won't go back to teaching for this district because it's too risky. >> i was cleared of all charges. but you disciplined me. i was guilty first. it's something should be done. something must happen. >> reporter: there are a lot of questions that we have for this school ceo, dr. kevin
