annie yu live in the newsroom with more from that interview. annie? >> reporter: good morning, guys. the white house has been scrambling to keep up with the president on this. and it's evident now that the president's decision to fire james comey had been in the works for while. >> just very hurt to see take place. >> he's a showboat. he's a grand stander. >> president trump in an interview with nbc news made his dislike for former fbi director james comey critical clear but he also offered a new explanation for his decision to fire comey. it was at least in part because of russia. >> in fact when i decided to just do it i said to myself, i said, you know, this russia thing with trump and russia is a made up story. it's an excuse by the democrats for having lost an election. >> reporter: that may feed democratic claims that trump was trying to quash the fbi investigation into possible connections between the trump campaign and the kremlin.

that the president asked comey for his loyalty during a private white house dinner and comey declined. but acting fbi director andrew mccabe told congress yesterday there's been no interference. >> so there has been no effort to impede our investigation to date. >> reporter: still democrats keeping up the drum beat for independent prosecutor. >> it's hard to avoid the conclusion that the president's decision to remove director comey was related to this investigation. and that is truly unacceptable. >> reporter: the president meantime says he wants answers. too. >> i'll tell you this. if russia or anybody else is trying to interfere with our elections, i think it's a horrible thing and i want to get to the bottom of it and make sure it will never ever happen. >> reporter: president trump very busy on twitter this morning firing off a series of tweets over the past hour seemingly directed toward what he calls quote fake media in response to reports that

by former virginia gubernatorial candidate and former virginia attorney ken huge nellie he spoke only to us at fox5. he had harsh words for the group calling them a scam pack. >> they raised all this money on my name, my campaign and my picture, you know they used all these pieces. a lot of people who donated thought they were donating to the campaign. they spend single digit percentages on politics donating to candidates, doing a, b or c that might actually move the political ball forward and all the rest of it is just to run the system.& to raise the money and to pay themselves and vendors and so forth. >> the group's president says he believes the investigation will clear his name. news found hanging -- noose found hanging outside a maryland middle school. >> police released photos who they believe did this. bob barnard with more on the photos and the

morning. >> reporter: this noose was found around 11:00 o'clock yesterday morning discovered by a teacher who look out her classroom window. apparently the noose was dangling from an exterior light outside the classroom window inside the courtyard of the school. custodian was call and took that noose down. the principal's office called anne arundel county police they came out here collected that. looked through the school's security surveillance system and found some images of two young men who they believe were here the night before wednesday night into thursday morning. we can show i was couple of the screen grabs here of these guys who according to police and the video scaled the roof of the building. sometime overnight wednesday night into thursday. scaled the roof went down into the courtyard. hanged the noose and then left. just spoke to someone here leaving the school. clearly a parent who says, she recognized one of the teens and actually called police this morning. apparently one of the two

18-year-old from this crofton area she says and has alerted police to his identity. we'll see the images are fairly clear. you got to believe they'll resolve this case pretty qu quickly. speaking of parents here this morning, about the incident itself, here's some of the reaction. >> we were very hurt. we were just very hurt to see such a thing could take place. we not only attend crofton middle. we live in crofton. i run my business in crofton. so it's very important to us that things are handled such a way where we can feel more comfortable. where we can operate day to day, you know, whether it's my daughter in school or my business or even feeling safe at home. so we do appreciate the fact that, um, the community has stepped forth and definitely kept the parents, um, well informed. >> i just always felt comfortable here in crofton and stuff and then it's really disturbing that these things happen. but it's everywhere. it happens everywhere. like i'm not surprised living here. ju

more comfortable, you know, always that this wasn't happening in my community. you know, but i guess it doesn't matter where you go. >> reporter: now, in a letter to the crofton middle school community, principal williams writes this. "this incident is clearly disturbing on many levels. we cannot ignore the intolerant message this act couldn't vase. we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and supportive school community. we will not let this incident change that ". and what make this all the more troubling it seems like it's a copycat type of incident because we've reported just recently about the incident at american university. we've heard of these kinds of acts being committed around our region. and other parents are telling us that, yeah, they wish maybe that this hadn't made the news. that the police with the photographs would have somehow been able to find these two young men out. they put anne arundel county police put this out on their facebook page.

>> 9:16. fox5 exclusive we continue to press for answers and allegations of a abuse and misconduct against hundreds of prince george's county school staff members. >> after requests to speaking the head of the schools kevin maxwell we caught up with him. the school board responded to maxwell on our air and his claims the controversial policy of reporting a abuse is keeping kids safe. melanie alnwick she's live in upper marlboro with more. mel? >> reporter: good morning guys. we really wanted to try to get some perspective on these numbers which seem to be high on the surface. this time last year, the school board the school system was still reeling from a coupe of high profile abuse

involving deonte car apps away and sexual abuse of students he was in charge of another with humiliating discipline handed out by some head start teachers. so they looked at the school safety. they had a school safety task force and then they changed some administrative procedures. and reminded employees, contractors, volunteers that they have a legal requirement to report suspicions of a abuse or misconduct. now we find 788 reported cases of abuse or misconduct. this school year. which began last august. more than 150 reports made last month. in the majority of these cases we're told the accused staff members are accept home on paid leave. most are eventually cleared to return to work but sometime it's days, other times it's months. on one hand, the numbers show the staff is taking their responsibilities seriously. but some teachers told fox5 they feel this is going too far. that good employees are being falsely accused and classrooms are suffering. when we caught up with superintendent dr. kevin maxwell last night he

policies and says he has been personally thanked for keeping kids safe. >> we are mandatory reporters under state law. i will never tell an employee in prince george's county that if they believe a child has been abused that they should not report that. >> yes. >> so that standard will be there because it is the law. >> reporter: now last july the school board approved the changes in the language and a new administrative resolution that clarified those reporting requirements and also that additional training. but earlier this morning, on fox5 school board member ed bureau said this is not working and it needs changes. >> it's not that people that criticize the policies don't believe cases should not be reported. we all agree. report any suspicion of child abuse to cps. but once cps has cleared someone, it does no good to keep them out on administrative le leave. >> reporter: right now, we're told there are 128 cases that

>> well, the girls are really -- they do get nervous and it's just like any runway show also. models get nervous back stage. but there's a little bit something different because they have to talk. they have to really, upping, show certain things off, and, um, but i'm really excited to get to know them it's whole new 51 ladies this year. and also, what's really important is figuring out what they're really interested in and how they're going to change america with their crown. >> right. you know to that i wanted to ask, you're a super big proponent of the positive body movement and this competition looks to really advance that. what do you like the most about teeing associated with miss usa, ashley? >> well, i do love that they are so about diversity and i think it's really important that more women of all shapes, sizes, races and ages start actually getting into pageants because that's really what's going to change and the next few generations because i mean i don't know a ton

except for like what's happening this weekend. but you have to go through a lot of rigorous pageants to get to where we are today. so i want to encourage younger women no matter what size you are, no matter what race you a are, what any other where you come from, get involved. because you too can change the world. >> to that, kara, let me ask you this we know this isn't the first time you've been involved just everything leading up to this moment i'm sure. perhaps in the in pageantry but just the way that you carry yourself in live want have you. so have you tried to get any advice from deshauna about what this weekend entails? >> i will say prior to even competing for the miss usa deshauna has been a an open person and just women competing in general. i think looking at her just like analyzing everything that she does on social media from instagram to all of her appearances to like right now that's where i like gathered most of my advice and believe me, she is perfect for the j

she gives so much great advice. ladies, if you need help she's so open to helping anybody. >> give me a call. >> please reach out to her. >> deshauna, we know your background didn't include necessarily the pageant life. but what is the one piece of advice that you would give to the reigning miss d.c. hopefully it will be twice in two years we bring home the title but what wore advice be to kara? >> definitely to be herself. myself and kara are friends outside of this. she was my first runner up when i wouldn't miss dcusa. we've known each other for years now. i tell her to be herself. she's fabulous. just be your sell and show the judges exactly who kara is. representing dc like you've been already, and she's just -- she's going to definitely represent us. she did great job at preliminaries and she's a great representation of the district of columbia. >> she's trying not to be biased. >> so hard not to be biased guys. >> we're trying not to be biased either. we really hope we bring the crown back home again this year. thank you all three for joining us this morning
