and then striking in another. what we have learned about the investigation. your news starts now. >> ♪ >> and we begin with the developing story out of prince george's county. tonight this man is a fugitive from justice after he was a no show in court today. i'm sarah simmons in for shawn. >> and i'm tony perkins. fox5's tisha lewis is live from upper marlboro. tisha the victim's families have been outraged that he didn't show up. >> reporter: well, tony to say the least. kenneth kelly can add failure to appear to his list of charges much he was come to here, walk right through the front doors at the courthouse. instead he skipped sentencing. he's now a wanted man. the family members who did come here today are angry and outraged and you might imagine

experiencing some heartache. >> i was just extremely shocked b by it really. something told me, though, that he wasn't going to show up for court. i don't understand why he was released after just admitting or taking a plea guilty of killing five people. >> reporter: on face time nina bell cried as she tried to grasp how kenneth kelly was able to not show up for court on his sentencing hearing. he was reportedly driving drunk when he crashed into a car stopped at a red light in oxon hill. inside that car was bell's younger and older sisters little cousin and another family member. they all died. >> now you feel like maybe the system has failed you because you depend on the system to right any wrong

now we're all left to do is wait. >> reporter: bell now lives in dallas. she says attending kelly's sentencing hearing would have been too painful but knowing he was a no show hurts more. >> obviously the family was very angry, very outraged. they expressed a lot of their anger and frustration in the courtroom and we completely understand why they feel that way. we sympathize with the family and our hearts break with them. they came here today expecting to see a person who took five of their loved ones from them sentenced to prison. >> reporter: kelly had a gps monitoring device that was removed this week another slap in the face says nina bell. >> 10 children, a host of family and friends get no justice. but we're supposed to put our trust in the justice system but we're really not getting any

>> reporter: now, we did go to this address in southeast listed for kenneth kelly. here's what happened and you're watching it right now. we knocked on the door a few times and then a woman answered the door and then closed the door immediately. we could hear a man saying inside the home really? really? so, we don't know if kelly was home but we do know that there was at least a man and a woman at this address in southeast listed for kenneth kelly. also just moments ago i did speak with someone from prince george's county, a woman who tells us that she is in touch with the shift commander to know and alert us if kelly is arrested in the coming hours and also coming days. tisha lewis, fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> well, our other big story tonight get ready for yet another soggy saturday. i think this is the third one in a row. the rain is already falling out there. the question is when will it stop, ho

cooling in the atmosphere. the winds will change a bit once we get into the next 48 hours or so. how much rain are we talking tonight into tomorrow? i-95 corridor north and south and to the west about three-quarters of an inch to an inch and a half but to the east different story, we're talking an inch and a half to up to two and a half inches:we've got a coastal low that's going to develop tomorrow and that is also going to bring in even more rainfall but looks like most of that will be to the east of us and we're still not in the clear. we have a i can't rememberup on the way. that's good news and trust me, the sun is definitely on the other side. more details a little bit later. back to you, sarah. >> arlington county police have released new video of a man wanted for sneaking into a condo building and sexually assaulting a woman around 9:45 sunday morning and we're learning he tried to get into at apartment building about an hour earlier but was stopped. fox5's lauren demarco is

lauren. >> reporter: sarah, we're right in downtown arlington and it's really frightening i should say the clarendon area of arlington but it's frightening how off of this played out. the suspect tried to get into this building 1919 clarendon boulevard when he was turned away he walked about 10 minutes down the road to key boulevard, a condo complex there. police say that he randomly targeted his victim pretending to be a maintenance worker. >> you don't think about those kind of things happening here on, you know, in the middle of clarendon. >> we've all been really shooken up about it. >> reporter: people who live at this luxury apartment complex received a message from management detailing what you see in this surveillance video a man gets into the entranceway, waits around for a minute or so and then follows a woman and her dog through the main door. once inside he passes the concierge but an observant employee behind the desk calls him back and eventually orders him to leave. >> they pretty

everyone who lives in the building so they're always super careful. they never let anyone in. >> we're super thankful. >> we really appreciate that hard work because that is ultimately what kept residents of that building safe. >> reporter: ashley savage with arlington county police say around 9:45 a.m. sunday morning the suspect was able to gain actress to the atrium complex along key boulevard. police say he knocked on doors claiming to be maintenance. most residents refused to let him in but when one woman opened the door he forced his way in. >> the attack was so loud we received numerous 911 calls. those calls allowed us to arrive as he was still on the scene. >> reporter: watch as he rides the elevator down. he appears agitator and then runs off. >> i hope they find him and i hope they throw the book at him 'cause that's unacceptable. >> reporter: police w

authorities. they are 19-year-old investigators say they were caught on surveillance cameras yesterday after they hung a noose from the roof of the school. both men are charged with trespassing disorderly conduct and disturbing school operation as. police plan to interview the men and find out why they allegedly did it. >> new at 10:00 the engineer involved in that deadly 2015 amtrak train derailment has been charged with causing the crash. brandon bostian faces involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges days after prosecutors cleared him of any criminal wrongdoing. bostian was the engineer on a train that derailed back in 2015 killing eight people and injuring about 200 others. officials say he accelerated the train to 106 miles per hour which is more than twice the speed limit. developing tonight we're in the midst of the largest cyber extortion attack ever. the global havoc created by hackers next. >> school board members in one county say they are fed up and

hospitals because the computer system was down. the united states was also hit but the ransom wear attack was not as widespread as other countries. >> ♪ >> in a fox5 exclusive, we have learned a d.c. firefighter is now on administrative leave after allegedly posting offensive comments about a fairfax county firefighter who committed suicide last year. these new comments were posted on a closed facebook page much they claim nicole mittendorf committed suicide because she was promiscuous not because she was bullied. it was written by chris sullivan on a page called hit it hard from the yard. it's a page that advertise itself as a firefighters who have been ostracized for tactics looking for a friendly soap outside the fire ground. however, sources who have access to the page say it is frequently used by firefighters who mock other firefighters and who refer to women in derogatory terms such as slam pigs. the faceok

over a year since mittendorf committed suicide after anonymous lewd and harassing comments were made about her. d.c. fire and ems released a statement that reads in part the remarks made pie this individual do not represent the views of the department. fox5 reached out to the firefighter who made the post but he declined to comment. >> fox5 is in prince george's county with a follow-up on what's being done to address the hundreds of school employees accused of misconduct and abuse. for the first time this school ceo answered our questions defending policies on how abuse allegations are handled despite criticism new rules go too far. now some school board members say something has to change before the next school year begins. fox5's lindsey watts was first to report this story. here's her update. >> but i do know that what we have had this year is not acceptable. >> there needs to be a plan. currently the superintendent does not have a plan f

to fix this next year. >> reporter: the numbers are staggering t our records request shows hundreds of prince george's county school employees accused of misconduct and abuse most of them put on leave. >> we begin with stunning allegation of sexual abuse of students. >> reporter: following major abuse cases new guidelines intended to protect students have meant more reporting and more suspicions. some feel it's reached a breaking point. >> it's definitely an overreaction and we have hundreds of innocent people that we placed out on administrative leave and i'm not confident they're all going to come back to prince george's county public schools. >> reporter: school board members ed burroughs and rahila ahmed met to talk about solutions. >> it was productive and i feel like those are the types of conversations and collaborations we need to have to address this massive issue because it is a massive issue. >> reporter: they're looking at ways to keep kids safe from abuse without unnecessarily pulling teachers from classrooms. >> i believe that principals

people from the central office should have the intellect and the ability to use common sense on judging these cases so that we don't have hundreds of employees out at one time. >> reporter: in his first interview on this issue. >> we want to keep our children safe. >> reporter: schools ceo dr. kevin maxwell says he's looking at adjustments to current practices but stood by overall standards. >> standard for how we conduct ourselves professionally will not change. >> reporter: he says he's heard plenty of praise despite his critics. >> i will tell you i get just as many or more people coming up and saying thanks for what you're doing, thanks for keeping our children say. lindsey watts fox5 local news. >> the board members we talked to say they're going to work on their own plan to address this and then present that to to dr. maxwell. >> prince george's county council member mel franklin is apologizing for a dui crash he was involved in last year. franklin

driving under the influence when he rear-ended a car stopped at a traffic light in upper marlboro last november. franklin was driving a government vehicle at the time of that crash. a judge sentenced him to probation and gave him a fine of $645. franklin released a statement that says in part i am deeply sorry to mr. and mrs. collins& and take full responsibility for the november 2016 car accident. that evening i letdown both mr. and mrs. collins and all of the residents who look to me for leadership and responsibility. i must now begin the hard and necessary work of earning back their trust and forgiveness. police have made an arrest in a string of food delivery robberies in montgomery cou county. police say he robbed five delivery drivers between may fifth and may 9th. investigators say fatty requested deliveries from pizza and chinese restaurants in the montgomery village and gaithersburg areas. in four out of the five robberies the suspect got away with food and some cash. >> coming up, hundreds of po

joint institute shared the ways to watch without the pa pain. r. felix it's that time of year a lot of people going to be outside enjoying sporting events their kids playing sports but a lot of times we choose the wrong seats to sit in. what does choosing the wrong seat mean for our bodies. >> my gosh, well, let's start off with first people tend to get lower back pain from it especially if you're at a two hour lacrosse tournament or a football game or a soccer game right depending on the bleachers. the preachers are the worst so we'll have a lower back pain, we'll have a a lot of neck stiffness, people get headaches and migraines because there's no support to them so your back just tends to sag underneath you so we tend to get up and we can't get up in the first five& seconds, 10 seconds of walking it's usually when the joints start working again and the pain starts to go away. >> you talk about bleachers. most bleachers are metal seats no bk

what happens. do you see how her knees are higher than her hips. >> yeah. it sinks down. >> sinks right down. that's going to put a lot of pleasure on her lower back. that's going to put a lot of pressure but look at how her neck goes forward and shoulders get rounded. she has no support there. so, over a long period of time let's say -- let's say her son was five years old and they're just starting soccer. by the time he's 10 she's going to start -- she won't be able to go in one of these seats any more. >> i will say this. for me it's hard to get out of. >> right, exactly. it's really hard because initially and i'll show you when we get to this seat, this seat right here is better. kristen if you would sit right here for me. so, this seat, you see hoarier knees are parallel to the floor and even if we have a little bit more of a 10-degree angle there would be great. the other thing that we see here is her shoulders are coming back. her neck is being more relaxed but the most important thing here it would be to have a

we might have a few dry areas as we move into the afternoon hours of tomorrow but overall still just be aware of that -- be aware that you will see a fair amount of rainfall as it continues to move through. here's a closer look at some of our neighborhoods up and down the i-95 corridor. with this we have some coastal flood advisories and watches and warnings into your saturday. tied levels in many many areas are a foot even a foot and a half above normal levels so we say turn around don't drown we really mean that. just be very cautious if you're driving into any streets and you really can't quite judge just how deep the what the is you don't want to take any chancesly we don't and you to get in any dangers. temperatures another story. would you believe we're supposed to be into the 70's, low 70's at least but we've only been in the 50's. 51 degrees right now in d.c., the same at quantico, 50 at fredericksburg. 48 gaithersburg, 52 in annapolis and 49 degrees at

so, your afternoon planner for tomorrow it's going to be a chilly one. once again highs only in the 50. 53 by the 11 o'clock hour and by the 2 o'clock hour only 56. by 5 o'clock, 58 degrees. we do have some relief in sight, however. there is some sunshine on the other side. but we still have to get through tomorrow first. so, that coastal low will develop and move its way up the seaboard. heaviest rainfall will be to the east of us but it's still going to stay cool. behind all this though a ridge of high pressure builds in. that's going to hold under the circumstances for sunshine on sunday perfect for mother's day, temperatures rise into the 70's as well. we'll city a few clouds but the other story for sunday is going to be the wind. it's going to be a little bit on the windy side. as a ridge of high pressure builds in low pressure system moves out. we get a pretty tight pressure gradient and all that translates into is some gusty winds so be aware of that for any plans you might have on sunday but otherwise not too
