>> tucker has first check of the forecast. >> steve i think we'll get awfully close. forecasting a high of 93 and the record for the day goes back to 1974. it's 92. we'll be right there. see how close we get later this afternoon either way it will be hot. humidity will be building over the next couple of days. here's our for forecast for our first heat wave of 2017. let me mention not only today but it will be thursday and into friday as well that our daytime highs will be 90 or better. i think by friday we'll be in the upper 80s to about 90 or none so a little cooler on friday with cloud cover. you getted idea. any time you talk about heat around the washington area and it lasts for more than couple of hours it will kind of build over the n few days. winds out of the south here 8 miles per hour. off to beautiful start. it looks great out there. not lot of humidity to start but as the day

tonight and certainly into thursday and friday our humidity will continue to build as well eventually heat and humidity across the area. there's live look at satellite/radar. storms out to the west. they're having to steer up around our area of high pressure just going to dominate eastern weather here for couple of days, and again pump in these unseasonably warm temperatures. we should be in the mid 70s. we'll be in the low to mid nineties this afternoon. 15 to 20 degrees above normal. temperature wise. there you go. 93 degrees with lots of sunshine and a hot afternoon expected i do want to mention quickly dry later today if you got plans one other piece of vice lots of water and please limit your pets time outdoors today. don't leave them outdoors all afternoon. all right. that's it, guys. more weather coming up. back to you. >> sounds good, tucker. thank you very much. we do have breaking news we want to share. associated press reports that senator tom tillis from north carolina collapsed in dc this morning republican was taking part in a race in southeast when it happened now apparently he received cpr on the scene and was taken away in an ambulance. he tweeted this

him getting ready. tillis is just 56 years old. he was apparently awake and breathing when he left with first responders. so good news there. right now though we don't have any official word on his condition. we'll keep you poeed in we get any more information throughout shot. >> also, developing this morning, water main break causing major issues in ellicott city, maryland. as parts of the area's main street have been shut down for hours. bob barnard live on the scene for us this morning. good morning. >> reporter: hey g morning allison. hours more of this part of main vote will be shut down the last word we just got is that the water has been shut off. you see behind me here you see some truck. these are actually bg&e trucks here to kind of stabilize utility pole that's right next to the hole left from broken water main. we have sky fox up above as well. we can show you a live picture here there's a hole in the road the water has just been shut off and again the trucks are here right now not yet repairing the

making sure this utility pole doesn't fall over. we can also show you some video tape from earlier this morning when the water was gushing and in the sink hole that was left behind you see a car there. a car was parked on this part of main street which is just uphill and just west of the historic part of main street that flooded last summer. so we're uphill and about half mile from that part of the city. no water is getting down into that part of main street we're told any of the shops, homes, businesses down there but a couple of homes right up here near where the water main broke have been flooded. we're told one person's basement has 4 feet of water in there. just recently got a new furnace that furnace is flooded again. and the road repairs we're told are going to take a good chunk of the day, but we do want to have you hear from jenn riley the lady who owns that car that was parked there on the street when this water main -- this 12-inch

>> well i woke up to a knock on my door around 3:30 in the morning, and there was the police asking if that was my car parked on the street there. and so i walked outside and sure enough there was water gushing from underneath the car and they said that it's probably just totaled at this point. >> reporter: so you hear jenn there say it was bow 3:30 officially they're saying 4:00 o'clock this morning. but we're hearing it was more just before 3:30 this morning. they've taken her car out of the hole. she says it's destroyed it looks fine but it is not. we're told that, you know, now that the water is shut off it's going to take some time to fix the pipe and then to row pair the road. that this part of main street between rogers avenue and bellefont drive, again, just uphill from the historic part of downtown ellicott city is probably going to be closed until tomorrow morning. they hope to have it reopened by the morning and plenty of work arounds it's not a heavily traveled road but i

street in ellicott city which was flooded with those devastating and d deadly floods last summer, guys. >> remember all too well. >> who could forget. >> exactly. thanks, bob. appreciate it. 9:07. of course the other big story this morning the trump administration in turmoil. this morning the white house is defending president against democratic charges he may be guilty of obstruction of jus justice. it all pertains to memo which was reportedly written by former fbi director james comey and it comes just one day after that bombshell report about the president sharing classified information with russia. melanie alnwick joins us now live with all the details. hey, mel. >> reporter: good morning and members of congress that i've talked to this morning say they want answers. they say they really need to get to the facts for the good of the american people. members of the house oversight and the senate intelligence committeings say they will use their subpoena power to do it. it is a memo written by now former

that is at the center of the latest white house controversy. just as the fbi was investigating for former national security add 55 mike flynn and his ties to russia comey and trump met privately in the oval office. no media outlet has actually seen the memo but someone read it to the new york times. comey reportedly wrote that the president told him "i hope you can let this go". clear evidence for many democrats. >> that is obstruct of justice. and that is a very serious matter. >> reporter: white house fired back "the president has never asked mr. comey or anyone else to end any investigation". but now the republican chairman of the house oversight committee says, he wants what comey wrote. >> if there are such memos or documentation, we would like to see that from -- from the fbi and we've given them a week to produce them. if i need to issue a subpoena i'll issue a subpoena. >> reporter: defending the president has become complicated with many republicans steering clear for now

and nerves and talent to sleigh the competition but of course it did not come without a little controversy. this morning kyra joins us live from new york to talk about the competition. how it feels to be representing the dmv as the new miss usa. good morning to you again kyra. >> it's a pleasure. thank you so much. >> all right. almost a week into the new position. how does it feel? is it everything you thought it would be? >> i'm extremely excited. it's actually more than what i thought it would be. i mean i'm just being pampered so much. it's just an mazing feeling. and i can even believe i'm still like in this position right now. >> all right. we have to talk about the controversy during the competition. your answers to health care and feminism. got some people riled up. wondering did you want to amend your answer or are you taking it back? >> not at all. so i am a woman. i am going to stand behind what i said. but i just -- i'm just taking this opportunity to clarify and, you know, given the opportunity to clarify is definitely helped out a lot. i want people to

yes, i feel like i am privileged to have health care. >> what does that mean exactly because i thought you said that but you know people are saying it's not a privilege it's should be, you know -- it should be just like a right. so just clarify that a little bit more for our audience. >> definitely. definitely. so i don't take anything for granted. you know having a job i understand first and for most premiums that have to go out for health care. and that's what i was just kind of like honing in on. yes, i do believe affordable health care should be right for all and i believe having health care comes with having a job. i feel privileged to have health care. >> when you came into the loft a couple week ago you just wowes with everything about you i'm not surprised you're in the position you're in. the new miss usa1 thing that touched me in particular you really have heart for children and really guiding them in education towards sciences. will that continue to be your platform? >> without a doubt. stem enrichment in children is what my life is based off of. like i

math as child, and i see first hasn't that for someone to really feel liberated in a subject you have to understand that child's way of learning. so i'm going to continue to hone in on my science exploration for kids program. i'm looking forward to going to so many schools still doing science projects even symposium with high school kids and having the opportunity to just kind of reach out to so many children especially young girls to get them geared up for science, technology, engineering and math subjects. >> have you a chance to do any of that yet? the official duties as miss usa or is it still in that pampering stage you're in? >> i'm just still in this media week stage right now. but it's in the works. it's all in the plan right now. they're so excited that i have this program that's self funded and ready to really help me reach out to so many other children. >> so what -- i always wouldn'ted this. what's been your biggest surprise so far in this role? has it happened yet? i know it's been less than week but has there been something that you run into you thought oh, my gosh, i didn't expect that? >> no, not

i think, you know, life comes with just understanding that they're going to be challenges and i mean this inn tire experience so far has just been oh exciting. i'm extremely thankful for everything and i'm just glad though that we're starting dialogue. there's conversation about issues going on in the world so i know, you know, there's no surprise at all. in i know d.c. has got two miss usa's under our belt. the newest miss d.c. weird coincidence of things is daughter of one of our staffers here. so do you have any advice for ryan richardson as she takes on the crown as miss d.c. hoping i'm sure to become the next miss utsa? >> that girl is so fabulous. i wish i can give more words but honestly she embodies such a dynamic individual. she is such a boss when she's on stage, she demands the audience and i know without a doubt when she takes, upping, the crown and takes over as miss d.c. usa she'll impact so many people. i'm

sunshine low 90s expected this afternoon. humidity won't be terrible to today. but it will be building over the next couple of days. i think it will get progr progressively more uncomfortable humidity weiss as we get into particularly thursday and friday notice out the storm system out to our west have to get steered up to the north. up into can in a you today of an area of high pressure the bermuda high. which is anchored to our east and that's going to give us southerly and southwesterly winds and again heat and humidity building around here the next couple of days with highs expected to be in the low 90s. again, heat wave three days in a row of temperatures well above normal looks like we'll do that with high temperatures 90 or better both thursday and friday will be close call. we may only be in the upper 80s to about 90 but you get the i do want to mention the cooler weekend. back door cold front slides on in sunday and saturday in the 70s we may back those numbers down further maybe in the low to mid 70s on saturday with partly sunny skies. so that would be good news. that's update. 93, lots of water, steve. over to you. >> lots of water a

who work in the morning, lots of coffee. this is my second of the day. which is pretty tame compared to where i normally am. here's the deal it's pretty serious when it comes to caffeine you don't think about it a lot if you're big into energy drinks other caffeinated beverages not only can they be dangerous but deadly like we told you yesterday. south carolina student died from overdose of caffeine. the core know err says he drank a mountain dew, a coffee and energy drink in two hours and then he collapsed and died. cause of death was due to caffeine induced cardiac event causing a probable are rink mia. joining to us talk about the dangerous effects of caffeine, our dr. friend dr. shilpi agalwar. good to see you this morning. >> you hate especially when teenager is involved. you hate to talk about things like this. you see it in your line of work. >> i do. when it comes to caffeine it's that hidden danger we don't think about. >> this is a sad case. i also think that it's a case of too much too quickly. in his case, he had a lot of caffeine all at once and then it

unfortunate cardiac event where it sped up his heart rate and then led to irregular abnormal cardiac rhythm arrhythmia and led to his death. >> we don't know all of the details in this case yet as far as if there was any history but they said, you know, the initial was that he didn't have any health conditions he knew about ahead of time. so -- >> that's right. >> it seem like this is kind of very extreme as far as what might happen or -- not at all, steve. >> danger real. >> it sounds from the coroner's report he didn't have any underlying heart condition and in fact that's mostly case. you don't have to have an underlying cardiac event or cardiac condition, heart problems to have caffeine affect you to this level. so if you look at your standard cup of coffee that usually has about 150 milligrams or so of caffeine, but when you add that up with mountain dew that has about 50 milligrams and these energy drinks we did speak about they can have up to 200 milligrams of caffeine all of that together he had probably over 5

and recommended dose for adults is about 400 milligrams per day over time, right. but the american academy of pediatrics mentions that for adolescents 100 milligrams is really what you want to stay win because those hearts are still growing. they're still developing. very different than an adult heart. so in his case he had up to five times more than he should have had. >> node to be extra careful there. >> exactly. >> so you're saying on average about how much should we concouldn't per day if we're talking about healthy adult. >> being realistic, the average cup of coffee has about 150 milligrams of caffeine. you're starbucks is going to have two to 250. you really don't want to exceed more than two cups per day. that's win over time. you don't want to have them win one hour of each other. >> let's break it down since we have some of the props here. coffee about 150. 100 to 150 for standard coffee. >> if you have two cups of coffee you're consuming three hadn't dread milligrams of

50 milligrams. >> per serving though, right. >> right. >> so this bot dell you might double that up. very important you mention that this is two sex in this energy drink this whole can is 160 milligrams. but the serving is only half the can. so keep that in mine. that's lot of caffeine. >> about the same as a cup of coffee. >> exactly this small energy shot we spoke about that over 200 milligrams of caffeine. if you're having this plus the coffee on top of that you're going to start to feel those signs. remember, those signs of having too much caffeine -- >> how do we know if we're reaching that point where we shall scale back? you hear i've have jitters i had too much coffee this morning. >> jittery, science of palpi positions your heart rate is going very very high and you start to feel even sometimes the fluttering. you can feel anxious, nausead have to use the bathroom a lot. that's really because of the way that caffeine work in the body. caffeine itself affects our body because it releases these things cat at a cole low means. they are stress hormones. we need those. good in some senses because it

type two diabetes and her disease and it is personal to me because my mother, my sweetheart encouraged me to follow my dreams and become an actress had type two diabetes and died from heart disease. her brother today who's joining me on this -- on this movement as well my dear uncle ralph and i'm so pleased that, you know, because of his generation, you know, sometimes they can be a little private. but it's in his nature to help others we're really just trying to get the awareness up and the word out. >> the awareness -- >> thank you for having me today. >> it's our pleasure. that word awareness is so important, because they did a poll and showed that not many people know the link between type two diabetes and heart disease. were you one of those people? >> 52%. i was one of those people persons with my mother, yes. you're right. over 52% had no idea about the connection, but, you know, sometimes statistics numbers are a little hard

♪ >> welcome back. according to cancer.org sin cancer is the most common cancer in the united states. more skin cancers are diagnose in the u.s. than all other cancers combined. limbing your sun exposure and enjoying the sun responsibly the keys to really staying save this morning we're joined by celebrity make up artist and friend of good day d.c. of course kym lee with some advice on how to say -- stay sun save this summer. very important information. i know a lot of people i've heard this all before you probably really haven't. right? kim why don't you walk us through what we need to know. >> we should be looking for product that is have unbeatable sun protection factors in it. so we want to look for things that are actually recommended by the skin cancer foundation. so all of these products that we have are we want to be looking for products that will help us uva which deals with burning and with wrinkles and uvb which goes down

miss it goes down into the skin and so we want to make sure we're using those products and it has wonderful wonderful foundation they have created and actually they have coined this because guess what, when it wets get it work better it's a wet foundation and it's really amazing and what it does, it helps to protect from you uva and uvb rays and it has an spf50 which means that you can be outside in it but once you get wet after about ten minutes you need to pat down and reapply. what people forget -- fail to remember even though you're outside, you still need to be reapplying your spf. >> what about before even put the foundation. how is it important to put on sunscreen on the face? is that crucial or if you have this can you buy pass that first step. >> actually if you have this you can bypass but what i love if you actually forget to put on your preventive things you can actually do a post and kate somerville has spf50 and almost like a setting spray. good really. >> this is a setting spray it's called uncomplicated. >> i love it. >> you don't have to think whole

is there any particular one symbol i shall look for. say uvb on it, is that it. >> always be looking for products that have the skin cancer foundation daily use recommended symbol on it because what that's going to do and on the back of the boxes you'll see those and they'll have it. this is going to be safe for you. so if you're outside the you will be in good condition. >> not just going for the color you think is cute. really protect yourself this is serious issue here. you want to look good but this is serious. last 30 seconds can we breeze through. >> i just want to make everyone know this, that it has nothing to do with the color of your skin. everyone can suffer from skin cancer and so we have to make sure we are protecting ourselves and so if you're a person says i don't really wear makeup we have products for lip here by sugar sugar really great coral fresh color. it comes in different -- 12 different colors this is if you'll be outside. you want to make sure you have protect on your skin. spf15 in it. and then we have tintedtinted things out there for
