>> right now at 10:00 a local police officer chased a suspect and mowed him down with his cruiser. tonight the officer is facing criminal charges. we'll have details on his day in court. >> a man brutally attacked outside the gallery place metro station during the day. before police arrived a fellow passenger dime aid. tonight the men are reunited fox news at 10 starts right now. >> first tonight at 10:00, we begin with breaking news out of the district. >> a boy was killed at a hit and run. lauren demarco is on the scene. lauren, what do you know so far? >> reporter: just heartbreaking, shawn, tony, we're here as you said livingston in southeast. this is active scene. we're told about 8:30 this evening there was

boy struck by a vehicle. police were initially calling this a hit and run. we know that that boy was taken to the hospital. we're unfortunately he has been unpro -- pronounced dead. solemn here as you speak to the officers. they say a few minutes after the accident the driver actually contacted police h himself. he is now being interviewed by police and also told the young boy's parents have been here talking to police as well. we've been asking exactly what may have led to this. was the boy walking a cross the street with his parents. what the scenario was. it is all under investigation right now. we have not gotten answers there. i can tell you the street sort of lines up next to apartment complex on one side and on the other side is wooded area with a bit of clearing. there's a picnic table and i hav seen officers back and forthwith flashlights look around this wooded area as well. and of course, we'll continue to follow this. but, again, right now what i can tell you is

this was initially put out as a hit and run, we do know that the driver contacted police himself and is now somewhere in this area being questioned by detectives. again, major crimes here at the the scene. and they say this 6-year-old boy did not survive. that's the latest in sout southeast, just inside the maryland/d.c. border. back to you in the studio. >> prince george country police officer tonight is facing jail time. officer one hernandez was convicted today of hitting a suspect trying to get away with his police cruiser. you can see it there. wow. >> "fox5" tisha lewis joins us now with reaction to the verdict, tisha. >> reporter: that's right. and we're talking about prince george county police officer one hernandez charged with second degree assault. the incident happened last summer in hyattsville when hernandez and another officer responded a call a fight with armed suspect. 22-year-old

and hernandez followed him in his car. >> was upset when i saw the in-car camera footage this event and i fully expect my community to be upset when you see the in-car camera footage of the event. the fact that exists serves as a testament to the transappearance wrist agency. this does not represent constitutional policing as it is practiced in prince george county. >> and that is police chief hank stewwinski. it was immediately reported by officer hernandez supervisor. he was us is spend on the day of the incident. that jz june 13, 2016. police began an internal investigation looking into whether hernandez's actions were criminal. it as at that point the case was turned over to the state attorney office who charged hernandez.

block of fairview avenue. three men were arguing, one reportedly iptd indicated the other two threatened to shoot him as an officer was checking for weapons and patting down the individuals. 22-year-old you'll rick bateu ran away and officer hernandez pulled up to the scene and saw him running and per sued him. hernandez struck him with his cruiser. the suspect turned victim, surprisingly was not injured. and he refused medical treatment. >> we hope today's incident will affirm the public trust in us when we see things opposite in the value of this community we will act on them. >> reporter: officer hernandez worked for the prince george country police department for 11 years. we're told that now that criminal proceedings are over the department can now move forward with its internal investigation and while hernandez was found

second degree assault, he was found not guilty of official misconduct. tisha lewis, "fox5 local news". a simple traffic stop ends with one suspect shot and two officers taken to the hos hospital. police say officers pulled over a car on 395 gleeb road exit 4:30 today as they walked to the suspect's car the driver reportedly hit one of the officers with his vehicle. that's when the officers fired their weapons wounding the driver. he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. one officer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and another officer was treated on the scene. two d.c. police officers are on routine administrative leave following this shooting caught on camera. they respokened to car crash and woman with a begun. the officer shot isabel duval juliet street southwest when she refused to drop her gun. she later died
