this is going to be, until 5:30 as far as south is central stafford county and for west central king george in central virginia and for east central spotsylvania county in virginia. this was detected on radar moving east at 15 miles an hour. and if you look at this, you can see there's an awful lot of cloud lightening imbedded. wind gusts are reported to be at least 50 miles an hour as a possibility and we could possibly see quarter size hail. it's heading this way towards fredericksberg moving about 15 miles an hour, you can see how intense it is as it move its way through to the east. darker red is where we're seeing the heaviest rainfall with this and there will be a lot of heavy downpours. areas in the path include fredericksberg, spotsylvania lamps creek and fieldston all in the path of the

winds associated as well as the lightening and here's a little bit of a timeline for neighborhoods that can be affected. up to the next 25 minutes or so, colonial beach will be hit at about 5:26. if you're in the path, do take cover and be aware these storms can be dangerous. we're going to take a wide look. we're anticipating seeing a possible of more watches and warnings popping up as we go along. aware, there's a lot of instability in the atmosphere, we had a very hot day and it is just prime for more of these storms to spark warnings, more detail in just a bit. to prince george's county where a hospital patient on a wild ride after stealing an ambulance. the entire drama unfolded right here on fox 5. >>

identified as 43-year-old williams person. suspect let officers deputies and troopers on an hour-long pursuit through two maryland counties. the craziness ends with the suspected thief back in the hospital, and some questions that need answering. >> that is amazing video. our team coverage begins with fox 5's bob barnard. >> see it coming this way. >> reporter: it was quite a sight and coming right at us. about a dozen police cars, lights flashing and sirens wailing chasing a stolen ambulance with its lights and siren on. after heading south into charles county, the pursuit is now northbound on indian head highway in prince george's county. we're live on air. >> we understand my colleague lauren demarco murray is in touch with some of her law enforcement sources. she's the one who told me they laid out these strips in the street that have spikes in the

the tour -- tires of the ambulance were destroyed. but it didn't stop the guy. slowed him down, obviously. but didn't stop him. >> smouldering bits and pieces of rubber littering the roadway. >> i think the pursuit is over. >> reporter: most unusual of police chases would end on allentown road in camp springs west of route five, branch avenue. the stolen ambulance collide waiting maryland state trooper's cruiser before coming to a stop. >> let's beg forgiveness as opposed to asking for permission. >> reporter: the suspected thief 43-year-old william person of temple hills maryland would soon be placed on a stretch and loaded into another ambulance to be taken back to prince george's county hospital center where his wild ride began after 6:00 a.m. a gentleman by the name of william person was admitted to the hospital. prince george's county police officers dco

gentleman in the overnight hours suffering from an apparent injury and acting erratically. he was in the hospital for treatment. the hospital treated and discharged mr. person. and after he was discharged, he had access to an ambulance. and took that ambulance. >> reporter: prince george's county fire officials say no trouble finding their stolen ambulance. >> each one of our emergency response vehicles have what we call automatic vehicle locator, avl. it's gps technology and we that to insure we dispatch the closest unit to an emergency call and then in this instance, it was able to be used in a a different way to tell us exact exactly where the unit was at. >> reporter: despite the more than hour long in the friday morning commute, nobody else was struck or injured, the only closures ences caused by road - >> the officers were trying to get his attention to sort of bring him back to a frame of refere

several points. >> the stolen ambulance would be put on a flatbed and taken away. allentown road reopening right after 9:00 a.m. in camp springs maryland, bob barnard, fox 5 local news. now the big question is, how did a patient manage to steal an ambulance in the first place. team coverage. fox 5's lindsay watts live in cheverly finding out how this happened. lindsay? >> reporter: matt and sarah, you can see where the emergency vehicles are parked here at the hospital. according to prince george county fire officials, if an ambulance is not in use, the policy is, it must be locked up and the engine should not be running. an investigation is now underway, into what may be a policy violation that allowed a man to take an ambulance on a joy ride. we'll give you another look at that ambulance as it went past the fox 5 news van this morning, all of the

due to the police stop sticks, the suspect was driving with nothing but rims on the pavement. the prince george's county assistant fire chief said this is a vehicle that cost nearly $300,000. it may be able to be repaired. this was what the assistant chief's answer was when we asked how somebody could steal an ambulance? >> it's difficult but they have keys like regular automobiles. if it's not secured, it can happen. we do have a standard protocol that the vehicle is to remain locked. we have the ability to keep the vehicle running and lock it at the same time. so we have an internal investigation now to see exactly what caused this. at this point, we don't know. >>reporter: dc says that its ambulances also have that mechanism that allows the engine to be running but the vehicle can be locked at the same time, and the district says, if the engine is running, obviously, the doors have to be locked. in montgomery county, if the engine is

the vehicle cannot be left unattended. i want to show you more video. we have seen several high profile cases across the country, where ambulances have been stolen. of two months ago, in new york, a man hijacked an ambulance and ran over and killed the emt trying to stop him. on april fools day in west texas, a man stole an ambulance and led police on a chase with speeds topic over 100 miles an hour, video shows him being dragged out and arrested. and last year, in oklahoma city, same thing, a woman was arrested after she took off in an ambulance. so this certainly does happy from time to time. and one local fire official i talked to says locking up these vehicles is so important, not only to protect from low level criminals, but terrorists, there is concern someone could steal an ambulance then use it as a weapon or to access a restricted area. the prince george's county chief said in this case, the suspect, william person, seemed to be out of it. as you heard in b

1,000 yard stare. you can see that in his mug shot. he's now facing multiple charges. including auto theft and malicious destruction of property. live in cheverly, lindsay watts. fox 5 local news new information about the fatal crash involving the school bus bus, the victim was 24-year-old todd, he crashed into car before hitting a prince george's county school bus. it happened around 5:00 last night along temple hills road. we're also learning todd had been shot just moments before the crash. no word on who shot him. a medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine exact cause of. a 25-year-old woman shot and killed in northwest dc. police are identifying a suspect in her death and he is still on the loose. fire tears through a large home near the university of maryland, where five students lived. we got an update on how the students are doing and two

son on may 9th in the 100 block of irving street southwest. thompson was taken to the hospital where he died. holmes faces second degree murder murder charge, they a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. police want to hear from you. prince george's county trying to figure out what caused a house fire in hyattsville. the fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. in large home that had several apartments not far from the university of maryland. everyone thankfully was able to get out safely but two firefighters were hurt while battlng the flames. both are expected to be ok, but five students are now displaced. have you seen dc waterfront, it's exploding with development. the navy yard to the new warm front development. many moving closer to the water, there's a push to keep the waters clean. of we went to a ride on two new

watch. tomorrow night mgm national harbor, mr. gary russell junior defending his title. back to you. >> thanks very much. good luck tomorrow. let's take at this time outside once again, shot of the capitol dome. it is a humid, hot one out there today and that, of course, meanses what was usually edit storms >> not a cloud in the sky, absolutely gorgeous, gwen as you were saying, there's rough weather that could be moving through this evening. >> that sunshine also with the approach of a trough and a frontal system coming together and combines lots of instabile, the heat is on definitely in the atmosphere and those storms are continuing to fire up across the area. take a look at storm tracker radar, the last warning that we did have has been cancelled. we will definitely not be surprised if we see more popping up. as you can see the intensity of these storms as continuing to move

at the lightening. we got an awful lot of cloud to ground lightening in these storm systems as well. we're keeping an eye on a track of those storms as expected to move its way into southeastern loudoun county northwestern fairfax county and northern prince william as well. way rapidly about 15 miles an s- hour to the east, winds in excess of 40 miles an hour, and half inch hail possible with that storm. a lot of locally heavy rain fall as well as occurring,. careful if heading out. a couple of areas of concern, one to the north, where we have a trough and that's currently right near baltimore. but that particular system created up to three quarter inch hail through that particular region with a lot of cloud to ground lightening and heavy rainfall and then the frontal system and a trough ahead of that which is to the east of us -- west of us, and we're looking at that also impacting our area. so lots to talk about, we've got

detectives need your help, this man is accused of illegally reporting women inside a wal-mart in virginia. they found the suspect up the dress of 36-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter. the child's mother confronted the man but he left the store before officers got there. please call please if you recognize him. st. mary's county, a 35-year-old man was charged with raping someone in lex ton park last week. he faces rape and assault charges, the victim's identity has not been released. dyson currently being held without bond. virginia state police terminated an amber alert. johnson and her eight month old daughter khloe were last seen on april 30th in the hampton area. an amber alert was issued may 11th,

wheel of a pickup truck parked in an ally >> you're behind the wheel of a vehicle with keys and ignition. you're in control of this vehicle >> i'm not driving anything, sir >> are you not sitting behind the driver's seat >> no, i'm not. >> that's a steering wheel; right? . >> reporter: the man slides over to the passenger side of the truck. gets out and begins to walk down the ally. the officer calls for backup of >> that's a negative right now. subject started walking away. >> reporter: when they catch up with him he becomes combative and belligerent. >> put your hands up against the wall. >> fine. >> how much have you had a to drink? >> how much you had to drink. >> reporter: as the officers investigate they tell the man everything he has said has been captured on camera, a discussion that ends in laughed. >>

we were wrong. >> reporter: the attorney general said all body worn camera footage used in court as evidence will be made public upon request. >> in the case of the man we showed you behind the wheel of his truck, he was sentenced 20 days in jail. the man who refused a breath test was given ten days in jail. all dc police officers working patrol are now wearing body cameras. they're under orders to turn them on as soon as they begin an encounter with a member of the public. paul wagner fox 5 local news. ♪ ♪. we have new details now about a bizarre police involved shooting in manassas from overnight. police say someone called 911 for a report of shots fired near grant avenue and described the suspect's car. when police tried to pull the 18-year-old over, he took off hitting two police cruisers with his car. the driver eventually stopped and was shot during a confrontation with police. he is expected to survive. a 15-year-old girl who had

of alexandra limon has the story. >> reporter: i think he's looking down and he's sad he's not here. but i believe he's glad to know that his brothers came out here to support the family, sisters. >> reporter: upper marlboro was lit up with blue and red lights. officers lining the side of the highway in their uniforms. in a show of support for nicole finely, a high school graduate who lost her father sergeant richard fine until 2008 >> we know how important it is to be at graduations, and we're sad that her father can't be here with her today. but we're glad that we can come out here and hopefully spread a little bit of cheer in her world. >> reporter: sergeant finely was killed after the driver of a stolen car ran him over and dragged him causing deadly injuries. >> at the end of the day, he's the kind of guy

humidity did not. >> i'm not complaining. i love it. >> no complaints from me either. temperature, reagan national high was 92. i saw heat index around 95, so kicked that west wind in, and you really get hot around here, and even at national, you know, yesterday, we were kind of battling the south wind it gives you a cooler temperature. a lot of storms going on out there right now. they really have blossomed and where they have blossomed and gotten strong is down to the south. i want to show you the big picture. we have active warnings to the south, pretty clear for dc now, but we're i'm going to get a couple of scattered showers and thunderstorms popping up over the next couple hours. looks like the concentration of the real heavy thunderstorms and the potential for severe at least for the next hour to the south of us, we have an active warning, a few active warnings down here, one i didn't tell about king george, i wanted to show it to you goes until 6:15, look at the core of this

do you see that? that's a hail core. where it's hailing we've had already reports of hail and quarter size hail and i think we're easily getting that there. all this is moving to the east at about 15 to 20 miles per hour, where it's not hailing, obviously, very heavy rain and very, very large amounts of lightening in these, it's pro listening lightening with these thunderstorms much like what we saw with the thunderstorms last night. another active warning for spotsylvania county. goes until 6:15. you can see all the heavy rain, the core, the core now is just south of spotsylvania. see right there? not quite as strong as the one we see for port royal, but that probably is a little bit of hail in it as well. and again, this whole complex is shifting to the east about 15 to 20 miles per hour, these are the only active warnings right now. fredericksberg is getting pretty good rain and i'll see this, there's gusty wind most of these storms, 50, 60 miles per hour wind gusts would say not surprise me. i haven't seen much in the way of damage from any winds this

that's good. i hope that stays. another line of thunderstorms clustering along i 77 moving out of frederick county into western sections of howard county. these appear to be weakening, they pulse up and get strong and rain themselves out and then they weaken just a bit. watching more coming through loudoun county, this wasn't is approaching the radar site. it appears to be weakening but it's going right over the dome. so the radar can't see it. i want to show you a couple of thunderstorms trying to blossom through quickly to the east and weaken. again, i think the organized thunderstorms stay to the south of us this evening and we'll have scattered showers and thunderstorms through dc in the metro area over the next two to three hours or so. flash flooding low, moving good. strong winslow, still we can see 50 to 60 miles per hour winds at least in the thunderstorms down to the south, large hail low for us, the chance is a little bit better and very low in terms of chances for tornados, this will go till aut

right? or start some kind of business and employee people of their own? >> absolutely. we want to make sure they're prepared to be successful in college and in those careers they're going to go to. >> how do you do this? how do you inspire them to come up with creative ideas? >> we partner with schools and we're an inschool and out of school time program. so our students form teams and we take them through the business process of how to write a business plan, how to come up with an idea. how to find a need in their pcoa business start to finish >> is it easy to inspire them? are they -- hungry to find the latest idea and what are they usually choose? >> you're going to get to see some of them and they're inspiring and they are full of creative ideas. coming up with something creative and useful is usually not a problem. they usually come up with too many ideas and we can't do them all >> are some of them like that's impossible you got to pull it back little bit? >> we try to take

process, so they can figure out on their own what might be possible, and what may be is a bridge too far. >> what's one night, one build? >> one night one build is the annual business plan competition, it's where our 9th graders will show up everything they've learned during their 9th grade year at build. everything from collaboration, communication, problem solving, grit, self management, they're going to present their business plans in front of expert judges, and then somebody is going to take home $1,000 and be the grand prize winner of our business plan competition. >> we're going to have a little bit of that little bit later. we're going to actually do a little bit show and tell and do a competition on who has best idea. i loved what is called shark tank? how to help them come in front of you and present these ideas. of maybe the next is right here >> it could be that's for sure. >> thank you so much. we're going to have more on that in a little bit. sarah, back over to you. >> that's right, matt, we got three teens in here part of that
