there's your rain pretty steady for much of the region now the exception southern maryland but even you guys are getting in on the rain at this hour as you can see a lot of green on the map here. so what will happen here warm front will lift through the region the next couple of hours. we should be remaining mostly cloudy here late morning early afternoon. and then as we get into the late afternoon there's a cold front out west of 81 there. that will roll in and that may give us a few additional showers kind of mid to late afternoon you can see those showers out into west virginia and western maryland. as that front comes through, look for a few additional showers. bottom line with the day cloud cover, showers the next couple of hours get a break midday look for some additional showers kind of mid to late afternoon as the front comes in. 75 maybe little optimistic but i think most of the region to get in the low to mid 70s later today with scattered showers this afternoon. all right. seven day looks like that forecast. i'll have the all details and look at the holiday weekend coming up in just a minute, steve. back to you. >> sounds much better than what we're dealing with today. the big story

fbi joining into the investigation into that deadly stabbing that rock the university of maryland over the weekend. >> that's because the deadly attack may have been a hate crime fueled by race. our melanie alnwick is live in college park with more details. mel, i know you've been on this story all morning. it is just truly truly disturbing. >> good morning. >> reporter: disturbing, shocking, really sad. you know, a lot of people saying the weather today sort of fitting the mood here on campus. even though yesterday was supposed to be day of celebration with graduation ceremonies. instead there was a moment of silence. now we do have information on a vigil it's going to be held tonight, september p.m. at bowie state university where second lieutenant richard collins wept to school. he had just been commissioned into the us army following this father's footsteps. he should have graduating from bowie state this week his murder now a stunning loss. >> this was a good kid. he was goi

he was going places, and he had high aspirations to achieve all the goals that he set before him as far as his military career, and we're just devastated that his life just been taken away with this senseless act of violence. >> reporter: collins was celebrating with friends at the university of maryland friday night. they were on region's drive waiting at the bus stop for an uber to pick them up 3am saturday when the suspect approached. police say he was screaming possibly drunk and told collins to step left, collins refused and was stabbed in the chest. 22-year-old sean urbanski was arrested at the scene. he is a university of maryland student. and investigators also found he is a member of a racist facebook group and it is those online activities that prompting this fbi investigation prompting the fbi to consider hate crime charges again nothing there filed just yet. right now urbanski is still in custody. he is being held without bond. he faces
