president's budget who hurt those who actually need it the most. nick mulvaney pushed back. p if you are 30 years old and you are watching h or you're sitting here you have never had a job as an adult in a healthy american economy. it's either been a recession or a slow sluggish economy stem knowledge along at less than 2 percent growth. if you don't like your job, you can quit because you know you can go and get another job. if you get laid off you can go and start your own business. that's what people have forgotten about. the budget assumes a certain level& of growth happening in the united states. >> it also assumes that the majority of tax cuts that the president wants to put into effect are put into effect and the people spend that money in the first place. is this a house of cards, you pull out the card that says this tax cut doesn't happen, where do you go from
6:37 pm
>> the administration projects a 3 percent growth. the budget office said a little bit less than that, about half of that. you want to see growth in this country and you hope that maybe all the numbers check off and it happens. nonetheless when you talk about the cuts to medicare and medicaid. president trump on the campaign trail had said many times he was the president who would support this. he also supports the republican healthcare plan which calls for cuts there. let's bring in to see how these cuts why why are o affect the local people. >> kelly brinkly. we're all familiar with what the united way does. a loft the information started trickling out last night. what's the reaction from groups like yours we think that these cuts are going to be incredibly aggressive and deches take iting to our nonprofit community and to those people who need these social services the most. where do you think we're going to see the biggest cut as it

you'll have other states who won't support it who will prioritize other things. i think if we're looking at across the board in our country how do we support the working poor across the board? it's going to be very difficult for people to get the support they need depending on where they live. if we go back seven or eight years in the bush administration, actually a little more than that in this equal woo, one thing that president bush was pushing for was a lot of these to be handed offer to faith-based groups, churches and other organization to help provide needy people with the services they need. as we move forward and shawn mentioned about the states taking on the responsibility, how do you operate forward if these cuts happen lock, stock and barrel. >> one of the things we're trying to do is bring awareness to donors and people in our community that we're going to need your support to help support these programs. as it tans right now when it was the expectation

going to fill the gap, the gaps remained. people do as much as they can, but it's just not he muff to provide the type of support that our community needs. we need all non-profits to work together. we need the community to come together. one of the things that united way of the united capital area is doing is we have a giving day on june 8. it's called do more 246789 we're trying to use that as an opportunity to say start your activism at home. we know you're supporting these other organizations nationally, but the region really needs your help and we're asking you to give locally to these organizations because if these programs are cut, people are going to have to go to these nonprofits for support and we're trying to start that pros right now and really be a pillar in the community to get h this jump started and people to be able to give and have a vehicle to give kelly from the united way. >> thanks for coming offer. we appreciate
