a beltville field, the man known as john doe has name. the fbi notified prince george's county police last month that new fingerprint technology had linked remains to bennett lewis. a man that had vanished after telling his family he was moving to north carolina. bennett lewis had just left the marine corp and was setting up a new life when he disappeared. his daughter, seven years old at the time. had no idea what had happened until a sheriff's deputy knocked on the door. >> i thought it was a joke. i didn't think it was for real. >> reporter: we talked to monica davis via face time today. she lives in louisiana and told us she went looking for her father years ago and was told there was no evidence her father was dead. but when bennett didn't show up for the father or sister's funeral >> that's when i began to say, hey, i think

no one not should look for their father, sister, and years passed and he still don't show up. i knew then there's a big possibility he was dead. >> reporter: october 21 it's, 1984, a father and son decided to take a walk in this wooded area off of avondale road where they found the badly decomposed rains of bennett lewis. when police arrived, they discovered he had been shot elsewhere and there was evidence he was dragged to where his body was found, his pockets had been turned inside out and he had been shot. bernie nelson is the detective who now has the case. he says in advancement in fingerprint technology helped investigators finally make the id >> it's actually was a shock to hear that an identification was made from 1984. so when i grabbed the file to look at it, and see how they could have made it off of

skeletal remains, they were able to find skin on couple fingers. >> reporter: now that he knows who was found in that field that day, detective nelson said he needs more help >> why we're doing this story is to find out why he was here. the family has no idea why he was in maryland or the dc area for that matter. and we don't start working cases no matter how long the time >> monica never new her father but she knows he was a good man >> he was athletic. he loved to play sports. he played baseball. he played basketball. very friendly guy. he was easy to get along with, he was dead three, four months before they found him. they got to figure it's over with and someone going to talk. >> reporter: records show bennett left the marina core in

june of '83. and killed a little over a year later. detective unless believe there's more to the murder and it just wasn't over a robbery. if you know anything about the whereabouts of lewis in the months, weeks, days leading up to the death you're asked to get in touch with detective unless at prince george's county police. paul wagner fox 5 local news. new video about two people wanted in connection with an armed robbery. the dean in georgetown, robbery happened on may 14th in the 3200 block of m street northwest, that's pretty clear video right there. the two suspects demand money from an employee at gunpoint when the employee was unable to open the safe, the suspects took some of the employees personal items. it's a problem the dc mayor mayor bowser is determined to end once and for all, she wants to reduce and eliminate the number of young people who go missing. several months ago she announced plans to address the issue and identified six steps that her administration was taking to protect the city's k

today, the mayor gave an update on the progress made so far. >> we want to break the cycle of young people leaving their homes and focus on the issues that cause them to flee their homes in the first place. >> a lot changed as of, nor police are now assigned to the children and youth services division to help find missing children, the website has been expanded and new push service announcement are airing to educate people about ways to prevent children from leaving home in the first place. several other plans are still in the works as well. fairfax county dealing with this problem. detectives need your help finding a missing and a in danger teenager. 13-year-old was last seen on may 10th at her home in fairfax county. she appeared to be in emotional distress. she's about five feet tall, what is 100 pound, if you know her whereabout, please call police.

then refuse to support a girl that keeps her baby. >> an update on this maryland teenager who's banned from walking in her graduation because she's pregnant. the school is responding, 18-year-old matty is a senior in hagerstown. she violated the school of conduct by having premarital sex. her parents are struggling to understand how the christian school can promote being pro life and turning their backs on one of their own. they released a statement said matty is being disciplined not because she's pregnant but because she's immoral. this extends to my actions such as protecting from abstaining from sexual immorality and for the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs. the president of a pro life group thinks the school is trying to make a public example

for those areas and we are expecting this storm to again begin to approach the area from southwest to northeast later tonight. temperatures definitely affected by this. we thought we'd get at least a little bit more sunshine out of the deal today. but because we really haven't and the clouds having hung tough, the east wind persists. it's chilly, mid 60's low 60's around the region, no warmup expected in the later part of the day or overnight. you can see that wind direction, this is really contributing to the fact that we haven't been able to kind of break out of this pattern, especially with the next system already on deck. a little bit breezy, if not gusty here and there. nothing showing up now. i noticed just last hour, there was gusts, 16 miles an hour, that's not terrible. but the breeze will likely pick up later tonight. as our storm system gets closer. nats fans -- you sat through the rain yesterday. the model thought it would be drier than it ended up being, today you will get the game in on the drier side. can'

is live with the report and the whole social media response. ronica. >> reporter: well, the president before this trip he really touted it as a trip of unit because of his decision to visit places associated with three of the world's major religions, going to israel and then the vatican. well, today, the president met with the pope. i spoke with father timothy kasicki about the importance of the meeting, the protocol, he explained that it is tradition for the president, when traveling to italy to take time to also visit the vatican, and meet with the pope. now, father explained to me the tradition of exchanging gifts at a meeting like this and he told me about one gift in particular that the pope gave to the president. now, it was an olive tree medalian. basically what the father said is that olive branchs are normally a symbol of peace

earth, so it was to send a message to the president from the pope to care for the earth and to care for peace. now, at this meeting. the world was really watching because of the history that the two share. you may recall during the primary campaign, he didn't name names but he did say we should be building bridges and not walls. then then said anybody who doesn't believe in this philosophy is not a christian. president trump fired back during the primaries saying a faith leader should not put his faith into question. then today, a photo came out of the two standing side by side. the president smiling and the pope straight faced, if you will. now, when the world saw this, social media erupted with means poking fun at the meeting, suggesting that the pope was not happy to meet the president. one calling the meeting pen

top stories in prince george's county police investigating a fatal shooting in fort washington. authorities telling us a man was shot to death around 10:30 this morning. so far no word on a suspect or a motive. turn your attention to the surveillance video now, dc police need your help finding this person of interest. he's accused of taking money from a woman at gunpoint. then sexually assaulting her. it happened on may 6. if you recognize the man, please call police. in prince william's county, police on the hunt for a suspected bank robber. he robbed a wells fargo that gainsville. it happened before 4:00. employees tell police the man

passed a note demanding money. he got away on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. it has consumed the trump administration. we're talking about the investigation into russia med link in the 2016 election and connections between former national security advisor michael flinch as the investigation heats up there are subpoenas being served here in our area >> fox 5 alexandra limon live with the latest on the investigation. hi, alex. >> reporter: general michael flynn owns two businesses that operate here in northern virginia out of alexandria. flynn intel llc and flynn intel inc., senate intelligence committee announced they will be serving these businesses including the one that operates out of this building here with subpoenas, as part of their investigation into flynn's ties with russia. earlier this week, the national security advisor michael flynn invoked

and denied a subpoena from the senate intelligence committee to turnover documents related to his dealings with russia. now subpoenas are being issued to his businesses a specific list of documents while we disagree with mr. flynn's lawyers over the interpretation of taking the fifth, it is clear that a business does not have a right to take a fifth. if there's not response we'll seek additional counsel advice >> he could be held in contempt of congress if he doesn't comply. >> really acting unconstitutionally if they hold him in contempt for refusing to testify. but they can subpoena documents from his businessesly. they have to comply. the businesses have to comply. and businesses have no privilege against self-incrimination. >> reporter: he explains were

business documents could reveal. >> two things. they're trying to find concrete support for some of the things they already know about, concrete evidence. but they're also looking to see if there's more, if there's stuff that they weren't on to. >> reporter: the latest information is that members of the senate intelligence committee announced they too will serve subpoenas as part of their investigation into flynn's ties with russia. reporting live in alexandria, alexandra limon, fox 5 local news. update now on the fairfax county mother facing deportation. today, virginia governor tre mcauliffe pooreded her for a minor traffic regulation. she was detained by ice following a routine check in for the offense. the pardon will not prevent the trump administration from deporting her but it may sway the judge's decision.

. police looking for help and look at this video, looking for the suspect in an arm robbery at a drug store it happened sunday night on the 7,000 block of marlboro pike. the suspects mask falls down, crime solvers are offering a cash award. . target agreed to pay $18 and a half million settlement linked to that data breach. 47 states including maryland, virginia and the district of columbia were all named in the settlement and as part of the dealing target has agreed to develop stronger security programs, also to keep credit card information isolated from the rest of the computer network and hire outside experts to make sure security is as tight as

virginia the programs from corey stewart. he's running in next month's primary. toll roads doesn't make a whole lot of tense but tolls help offset the cost of transportation for the states. he plans to find the money elsewhere to pay for projects. montgomery county police were out in force, cracking down on drivers who don't stop for pedestrians. it's all part of the county street smart campaign, police were posted four different crosswalks between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. handing out tickets to driver and pedestrians who violate the law. >> cars have a responsibility that when a pedestrian has started to walk in the crosswalk, and is in the crosswalk, they have the right-of-way to continue to walk across 355. as a result, cars are required to stop for that pedestrian, and what we're seeing is maybe one car will stop but on a multiple lane road like 355, we have other cars that are goingro

white house, gray skies abound and we haven't seen the sun in days. we will finally see it friday but tomorrow, if you are traveling, you'll be dodging rain drops, not just here, really, but all over the midatlantic and it's turning into kind of an unsettled weekend forecast. doesn't mean it will be all doom and gloom, but i do think we have rain chances about every day. weather headline, let's start with tonight, heavy rain moving in during the overnight hours, i think after sunset areas towards our southwest start to see the rain charlottesville southern maryland, dc between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m., the heaviest before the rush on thursday, thunderstorms possible thursday afternoon as the storm system moves out of the way. back behind that system we can get storm systems. sunshine returns on a breezy nice friday but it does look like we have numerous chances for showers and thunderstorms throughout the course of the weekend. if you're heading to the beach, might not be the best outdoor weather but not a wash-out. temperatures right now, wha

way below normal yet again. we thought maybe a little sunshine get into the 70, no can do. 65 washington with no sunshine, 65 in baltimore, 67 in annapolis, look at winchester in the 50's, 57, 62 in martinsberg and this has been without, and that's all it takes for the dense cloud cover to form, temperatures can't really rise and we got winds sustained ten to 15, easterly flow keeping us cool, cloudy and out of the pockets of severe weather. red boxes are active tornado watches from south of cincinnati all the way down to atlanta where we've had seven tornado reports this afternoon, it's a strong storm system that will move through, push the heavy rain into our area late tonight and we'll have the chance for thunderstorms later on this afternoon but the rain is still couple hours off. the nats are playing this evening. i don't think they will hav

little bit of dreary or sprinkles, most of that rain you see is off towards the west moving across west virginia and not even really into virginia, just quite yet. fox futurecast shows cloud cover this evening and the first showers start to enter at least this model says not until 11:00. even if it were earlier you're not even, you know, the nats game is over probably by 10:00. waves of rain heavy at time in the overnight. by 7:00 a.m. most off to the north, the drive in should be left over showers and wet roads, notice as the storm system pulls away, you get dry air. we'll have pockets of sunshine, but that's all it takes for instability, and as a result you get pop-up showers and possibly thunderstorms some of which may be strong tomorrow afternoon, the severe weather threat is marginal. that's the best place to get any severe weather, while it's an isolated risk it is still there for pockets of heavy downpours and pockets of

your day, 63, cloudy and cool with left over showers, break midday, pop-up showers and thunderstorms likely. really should be warmer tomorrow, well into the 70's with a bit of that sunshine. 79 on a breezy friday, that should be very nice day. but into the weekend, saturday, we have to introduce more clouds, also the chance for a thunderstorm, afternoon showers, should touch 80. most of the day in the 70's, same with sunday where there's a better chance along a cold front. the best day to be outdoors or the at least chance for the thunderstorm might be monday, memorial day, but then we get nice tuesday and wednesday. let's check the beach forecast. if you're opening up in ocean city maryland or any of our delaware maryland beaches you should have similar weather. temperatures in the 70, it's cool, evening thunderstorms saturday, showers possible on sunday, memorial day just a passing shower, that's going to be the best one at the beaches 78. how about the water temperature 60? too cold get in.
