score on the congressional office. on the latest republican healthcare bill came out around 4:30, an estimated 51 million people under the age of 65 will b insured in 2026. a small improvement which estimated just 62 million people insured democrats criticized. for pushing off coverage. the bill also still contains merely one trillion dollars in tax cuts mainly for the wealth. again, that was the nonpartisan review of the budget from the congressional budget office. president trump and pope francis posed for pictures, of course, we're talking about the trip overseas to italy. two met privately about 30 minutes. there was a lot of speculation. the president and the pope sort of been at odds over issues like immigration and building a bigger wall between the u.s. and mexico. despit

appeared to be positive. the men exchanged gifts and the pope med the first lady and the rest of the pope's entourage. although he did not reveal specifics he did say he would not forget what the pope told him. matthew bun son is with us to talk about it. talk about the symbolism of seeing president trump meet the pope and what your thoughts are >> a political calculous on the part of president trump he carried the catholic vote a pretty sizeable margin. meeting a popular pope is good politics. for him as well, i think as he launches a series of vatican initiatives, we saw him in saudi arabia, we saw him just recently in jerusalem and now here he is in rome. he's trying to really reach out to the world's chief r

in order to try to advance an agenda for peace, and if he was looking for somebody as a partner he do no better than pope francis >> the president did not really reveal what they talked about. what, if anything, have you learned about what these two heads of states discussed? >> from a couple of different directions, the vatican secretary of state, as it always does, issued a fairly forthright communication after the meetings. in this case, they used words like cordial and sir reen. which say basically the meeting went very well. we know as well as few other statements from vatican officials they discussed in priority, peace in the middle east as well as religious liberty around the world. so that's an area of immediate common ground. we know as well they covered areas such as immigration and healthcare in the united states, and pope francis even got his word in regarding his conce

warming by presenting president trump a copy of his reflection on creation on the environment. >> when you talked about immigration it brings to mind the debate last year, when the pope made a reference to building bridges, not building walls. that -- it's an interesting contrast seeing what then candidate trump said about the pope back then to seeing that the good interaction today >> well, and we know that this is a major concern for pope francis. pope francis brings a global perspective to think not just one regarding the american southern border. he looks at immigration, mass migration as a global phenomenonal and i think he was able to provide the president a unique perspective of the situation facing literally hundreds of millions of people around the world. i think it's a perspective that the president will be able to bild on. and i keep coming back to that word that the president us

time, pictures of a gregarious happy pope in the square and the audience, it's celebratory. when he meets someone for the first time, it's a warm exchange but i think some of the serious ness is to signify the solemnity pand the serious ness. >> certainly people were talking about the contrast where they were showing pictures of president obama and you saw images of the pope smiling but if you saw the video at the beginning when the president walked in, the pope was smiling. you know, >> it's end capation. he had a warm expression on his face. i get the sense some people look at it and think that's an unfair representation. you look at the video, i'm sorry we didn't show you the pictures but you can find them on social media. there's no peace for the president at home and in washington, the various investigations on the u.s. election continues >> the president hired a private

known mark kasowitz. he could play an even bigger role in this russian investigation, president trump denied he did anything improper. he also called the probe a witch hunt the white house not commented on the story of the hiring of this new attorney >> let's bring in debbie hines. why does the president bring in this outside counsel to move forward >> he definitely needs an outside counsel's he has white house counsel but the white house counsel handles certain matters as the president in his executive duties. most of the things involving the investigation stem from the campaign when he was not president trump, but citizen trump and everything involving the three investigations, the special council before the isn't it, before the congress and anything else that's going on, it involves the russian collusion

collusion and what was going on with the alleged trump aids and campaign prior to him becoming president. he definitely needs to have private counsel but there's also another reason why he needs to have private counsel and that's because, as the white house counsel in the white house counsel in terms of looking at legal issues, and president trump's role as president, anything that president trump tells white house counsel concerning the election, that's not privileged. we all know, we should know that most confidence are confidential between attorney and client but not everything would be confidential that's not within the scope of the white house counsel. >> now that is a key point, sounds like to me, the president is looking for a criminal attorney and let me ask you, because the gentleman that he brought in isn't necessarily a criminal attorney, he's represented him before in divorce proceedings,

transactions and the allegation of fraud against trump university. is this the right person to be in this position representing the president? >> i'm not so sure that the president is going to solely have this attorney representing him. it's someone that he trusts and we know that president trump surrounds himself with -- he always wants to be with those individuals that he trusts. but in terms of the league that is involved now, he definitely needs criminal attorney, a criminal attorney that knows about special investigations, perhaps even former prosecutor but he definitely needs more than just someone who's handled his divorces, real estate transactions and fraud cases. of this is really in a totally, totally different league. i suspect that president trump is going to have a league of attorneys not just this one attorney, but this is definitely someone who would be sitting in perhaps other attorney he is knows he can trust. >> thank you for coming in. we wanted a mention one thing. before we came to air, there was a lot

between flynn and russia. >> earlier this week, the president's former nash security advisor michael flynn invoked the fifth and denied a subpoena from the isn't it intelligence committee. now subpoenas are being issued to his businesses. >> with a specific list of documents, because while we disagree with general flynn's lawyers interpretation of taking the fifth, clear, it is even more clear that a business does not have a right to take a fifth >> if, in fact, they're not a response, we'll seek additional counsel advice on thousand proceed forward. >> the senate intel committee said flynn could be held in contempt of congress if he doesn't comply. >> the really acting unconstitutionally if they hold him in contempt for that. for refusing to testify. but they can subpoena documents from his businesses and they have to comply. the buses

later, it is chilly, breezy, the clouds hung tough all day. and some places dropped into the low 60's, upper 50's. our next round of rain is coming in in the overnight hours, but it may begin as early as 10:00 through central virginia and may touch the southern beltway by about 11:00 tonight. most of it will be overnight. we may pick up another inch of rain for the morning commute i think maybe we're winding down out of this big badge of rain, could be a lingering shower, but tomorrow afternoon, if we get breaks, we could see more showers and a thunderstorm ahead of a cold front that will be heading in our direction but we'll get into the upper 70's instead of the 60's, sunshine is back with us friday, it will come with a bit of a breeze and maybe an isolated shower in the morning, and right now, as we head on into the holiday weekend, describe it as not perfect, not a wash-out, but a little bit unsettled with chances for showers and storms each day with the wettest day looking at sunday, a look at your weather

election, and paper on the wall, they're doing a countdown, that's where, my source. for the countdown but you know, people are looking at this as a mini 2016 democratic primary, if you will. because tombry yellow regularly gets comparisons to a bernie sanders or progressive candidate why the other primary candidate gets compared to a more establishment distraught. i asked per re el lo in our interview, is this a remake of the 2016 primary, his answer it's about the future of the democratic party as a whole. take a listen. >> i think for some time in the 1990s when the economy was growing, basically everyone was growing with it and the solutions were about tweaking things around the

>> reporter: so with that, we have to look at the endorsements that the two have received. he's talking about looking to the future. what is the party of the future? but you can't help but step back and notice that tom perry el lo has been endorsed by bernie sanders. he had the support and worked with barack obama when he was in the congress. then you look at lieutenant governor ralph north um he has the support of many virginia establishment like the governor, terry mcauliffe, tim kaine and you say to yourself, if tom perry ello has all the endorsements from outside and the lieutenant governor inside the state as a voter if you want somebody connected to virginia is perry ello your guy? listen to what he had to say about that >> certainly all the elected officials in the state were lined up for mr. north um before i got in the race, we have t

campaign, as well as elizabeth warren on board and i think the kind of candidate that can unite that spectrum is of interest to a party that doesn't want to be divided like it was last year. >> that really is a theme for democrats. this getting past the division of the democrat primary the 2016 election, this is a fascinating primary to watch and see unfold, of course, we reached out to the lieutenant governor to be part of this story as well. we will follow up with them and talk to them as well about this neck and neck primary, the polls show within the standard deviation of each other. a lot could change in three week, it is fascinating to watch and many ways we can look at it maybe as a sign of the future of the party moving in that more progressive direction or sticking with the establishment base. we'll keep watching and reporting for you on 5at630. >> 21 days, you were correct until the election. pre

pre. mike pence launch add political action committee and raising eyebrows, some questioned whether the vice president's new leadership pack is aimed at a a future presidential bid down the road. its launch comes at a time conservatives started whispering about the possibility of president trump's impeachment. now, pence will be able to use those funds to use for travel and campaign costs. now, give you a little context. when george w bush launched a pack while vice president prior to his run for president in 1988, joe biden had won for years, he was serving in the senate. you look at the timing, some people say that smells a little fishy, then again, mike pence wants to support who he like to say support. >> absolutely. well, it is the swat seen around the world. the first lady with apparently, i don't think some people are saying no desire to hold hands and the presidential sh
