midday. got to get there first and still very gloomy out early this morning. heavy rain over night for parts of the area not making the morning commute a lot of fun. people getting out town. 61 at reagan national. 50bwi marshall. 58 degrees in baltimore. the rain that moved through overnight very quickly pushed off to the north. and at least temporarily we're done with the rain chances. i think if we give it a couple more hours we shall get some sunshine and high temperatures in the mid 70s. i do want to give you early heads up head shine is going to encourage showers and thunderstorms to redevelop later this afternoon if you're out and about enjoying the sun and temperatures get in the low 70s be on the look out here between about three, four, five, 6:00 o'clock tonight. showers and thunderstorms likely to redevelop and some of those could be on the strong side late this afternoon a lot of energy in the upper atmosphere that will be conducive to thunderstorm activity. quick look at the forecast for today. 74 that's depending on sunshine. more sunshine we get

>> clearly. >> obviously there was an issue there. but the question will it have an impact on the race or not? literally almost more than a third of montana's voters casts their ballots before this came out. lot of people wondering if this will even impact the race now. check the morning briefing first up president arriving in belgium for the nato summit. it will his first as commander in chief and the president will not take part in any policy sessions. but major topic of the discussion is expected to be terrorism especially after monday' as tack in opening land during his campaign president trump criticized nato calling it obsolete back tracked on that claim last month. back here at home the big topic is the gop's obama carey place many. yesterday the congressional budget office finally released its report and it's grade it doesn't look good for the -- score doesn't look for republican plane. cbo estimates 23 million fewer americans would be insure. premiums would be lowered for some people but older people would pay about ten times as much as young adults. out of pocket

people would also sky rocket. the report says the plan would cut $120 million from the deficit over the next ten years but senate democrats say the bill is dead upon arrival. obviously some republicans disagree. also here at home new details into the russian investigation. justice department revealed attorney general jeff sessions did not disclose meetings he had with the russian ambassador to the united states last year when filling out his security clearance form. the fbi says they advised him those encounter doctors not have to be included on the form. since the meetings were through his official capacity as us senator. tension growing between the u.s. and uk this morning. after a series of intelligence leaks related to the manchester bombing investigation. >> meanwhile officials have also announced more arrests overnight in the aftermath of that attack. police are trying to figure out if the suspect was part of a broader network of terror terroristings. allison back with all the details. good morning. >> thank you very much, good morning to all of you. once again we're talking about leaks from the us intelligence community. they're now creating new tensions between int

identity of the bomb maker, the would bomb t cells and specifically one that moves around and they keep that person on the move so they can't find that person. if they reveal clues as to who that bomb maker may be, if the bomb maker feels that they are about to be arrested, that will trigger more tax. if they feel that the police are nearing in on that, it could set off more of what they've been working on. that's the concern don't put that information out there to the public until they get a chance to find that person behind the scenes. >> okay. all right. thanks, al. >> you got it and thanks, steve. 9:11 is the time. the queen also stopped by hospital in ma and chester to visit victim of the terror tack in manchester. >> time right now is 9:11. fox5 update right now. two men arrested in connection to a noose found hanging at crofton middle school have been charged with a hate crime. connor prout and john, charged yesterday. earlier this month, teacher found the noose hanging on an outdoor light fixture in front of the school. police identified the suspects with the help of surveillance video from the school. they were i

trespassing disturbing school operations and disorderly conduct. changes are coming to the university of maryland campus after a bowie state university student was murdered there over the weekend. >> yesterday a moment of reflection held on the campus in honor of the victim richard collins. the school said the incident has certainly shaken the campus community to the point they want to make changes right away. annie yu live in the college park with the latest for us. annie. >> reporter: good morning. as you know there's been an outpouring of support from the university of maryland campus out here in college park, and in addition to that moment of reflection yesterday, we can tell you that the memorial still sits out here at the bus stop where army second lieutenant richard kohl's, iii was killed early saturday morning. he was stab at a bus stop at u m.d. campus as he waited for ride with friends. lieutenant collins was supposed to graduate from bowie state university earlier this week. i want to show you video where faculty and students gathered to

at this point in the investigation officials are still trying to figure out if this deadly stabbing was in fact a hate crime. university president wallace loh is urging students to be patient as investigators do what they need to do and announced these new steps that the university is taking to bring people together and he's making it clear that hate will not be tolerated. he says that there creating a rapid response team made up of faculty, staff and students. specifically traininged and providing services to anyone subject to do a possible hate incident and the university they're going to allocate $100,000 to support diversity, education efforts for the campus and moving forward he says that they will release an wall reports on campus hate bias incidents and they're also going to create a special task force that will review and recommend changes to policies as way to prevent future incidents. so pregnant loh hoping that these new steps will foster a more positive culture where hate is not tolerated. meanwhile the suspect is a university of maryland student. he's 22-year-old sean

>> tim i short for to us able to figure out what happened to kathy. >> that is a clip from a new netflix documentary the keepers grabs your attention. it premiered this past friday. you might remember we interviewed the director of the keepers just two week ago. the series focuses on the unsolved murder of a baltimore nun. >> highlights the priest that was at the top of the suspect list. and revelation of sex abuse scandal and cover up within the baltimore archdiocese. well now the baltimore police department is taking major act in the wake of the response they've been getting from the series. >> let's check in with melanie alnwick live in the newsroom following the latest developments in this story. mel, it's interesting. >> very interesting. netflix series dropped friday but police tell us that leading up to and right after they were contacted by many people who said they wanted to report what happened to them. so the department created a special online submission form just for people who believed that they are abuse of the keepers series. the documentary series revisits

sister kathy in 1969 alleges that a priest at archbishop keog high school was involved in her further and more. the series creators say during their investigation and interviews, hundreds of people confessed that they'd been abused and archdiocese of baltimore cover it up. baltimore county police investigated the original murder which remains a cold case today. the archdiocese of baltimore has paid out millions of dollars over the past 30 years in settlements to sexual abuse victims. the priest at the center of case reverend joseph mass cal died in to 001 police exhumed his remains just in february but said they could not get a dna match but now as we said, baltimore city police have been contacted by enough people since the premier that they've set up this special online form to report -- for people to report those abuse claims. the baltimore sun also publish allegations that father mascal also facilitate

other stories making headlines this morning. erin. >> thank you very much, wisdom. good morning to you. first up full jury has been seated in bill cosby sexual assault trial. the jury of 12 included seven men and five women. two of them are african african-american. cosby spoke out after the jury selection saying he is confident in his case and looks forward to getting it in the gyros hands. he's charged with drugging and molesting a temple university basketball team manager back in 2004. storm cleanup is underway across the carolinas after severe weather ripped through the region. in north carolina, there was at least one confirmed tornado and at least one person was hur. several homes and buildings were also damaged. that same storm system is what's bringing rain to our region right now. quite the docking over night in old town alexandria. the tall ship arrived around 5:00 this morning at the alexandria marina. it's a replica of 16th century spanish ships. they were

let me know how it goes. maybe just dip your toes n might be up to an kess this weekend of the 61 in washington. this is good news. we're just cloudy. i mean at heat we're tenning in the right direction i've had a few tweets this morning of sunshine in central virginia. i'll show you a satellite picture in just a minute. winds out of north at six. heavy rain overnight. notice off to the south and west out towards lore ray out towards 81 reports of sunshine. i think we'll break into sunshine in the next couple of hours, and that's going to change up the forecast in a big way. first of all we'll warm up into the low to mid 70s. that's great news. secondly that daytime heating along with complicate weather pattern will encourage showers and thunderstorms to redevelop this afternoon and some of the storms could be on the strong side. we got a very very strong area of low pressue out here what we call triple point that's been moving through this morning. so bottom line i won't get too complicated here we have a good chance of thunderstorms wee redeveloping this afternoon. be ready for those any time after three, 4:00 o'clock today we'll get storms

the cure i'm doing here as historian. i absolutely love the family and community character of the film but we have evidence certainly of astronauts being absolutely in love with the film. there was crew a few years ago getting ready to go to the international space station they made their crew poster in a star wars tribute they dressed as jedi with their light sabres. he waited to see the film until he came back from the space station so he could see it with his kids. >> pretty cool. clearly yourself included get that kind of movie even though compared to the more modern ones the original star wars fairly primitive was enough to inspire you? >> absolutely. i just thought it was fascinating. i love the idea of the family atmosphere that it really cr created, and i think it gave me a kid who was really kind of nerdy and hike that kind of stuff a place to really feel like they belonged. i think that's what star anniversary offers a lot of people a sense of community and family even if they don't have their own family that's interested in it. my husband can't stand star wars but i have my star wars famil

bradford and virginia tech. she weighed 128 pounds when she arrived at the shelter. nobody claimed her. the shelter didn't have the manpower to rehab olympia. that's what she looked like then. so they started looking for foster home for her. dr. lindsay vega and her co-workers at vca decided you know what, we're going to take on olympia and we're going to bring her to our office and we have plenty of rehab equipment and we'll see what we can do for her. they came up with very strict diet plan and rehab schedule for olympia and get this, she has dropped nearly 60 pounds alr already. now, as we all know, those last ten are the toughest. she still has a pesky 10 pounds to go. olympia and dr. vega join us to talk more about their journey. what story it is. >> yeah. >> amarellely honored to be part of her journey. >> first of all for her sheens being adorable right now chilling on the ground. when you -- when run across dog that is overweight that is really out of the norm or morning something that happens more

>> i think it does happen more often than we think. as we are seeing the same trend in humans, pets are becoming more and moreover wait. i think hers is an extreme case, but definitely it's becoming more common. >> just from inn activity. ? diet? whyth is this happening. >> it's combination. pets owners definitely want to love their pets with every single thing that they have. including their own food, and sometimes that leads to weight gain and them it's combination of that and inn activity. >> i'm going to talk to you and come down here and may with olympia while you tell us her story. but you first got olympia how did you put this plan together what we can do to get her into the shape she's in now? how much time does it take. how much effort did it take and did she play along at first or kind of like no, no, no this is not the life sometime i'm used to. >> right. it was definitely a team effort. we work with a veterinarian nutritionist at virginia tech medical school and she formulated her diet plan kind of a combination along with

very strict exercise regimen, and then everybody in the hospital just kind of working together as a team to get there and it's ten about nine months for us to get where we're at. >> give us idea what her work out schedule was like. >> she was working out two to three times week according how well she was feeling with her joints. and that was with underwater treadmill stretching, laser therapy, acupuncture and then controlled walks during the day as well. >> you're very fortunate to have the equipment available where you work. but you mentioned the joints. i mean, dogs probably just like people if you're carrying the extra pounds you have to be really careful about doing too much too soon, right. >> for sure. when she first came to us you can tell she had difficulty getting around but she hadn't had any kind of obvious injury and as we started exercising h her, she definitely broke both her acl ligaments in both knees she had to get both of those fixed surgically. >> how she doing now. >> she's doing great. she couldn't be happier. she couldn't be more mobile. and she just really

loving, wonderful dog. that feels a lot better now that all that weight is off. >> you think she's about eight years old. >> yes. >> and here's the best part. you are -- she's yours right now but you're fostering her show cease looking for forever home, right? >> yes. >> so can people adopt her if they want? >> yes. she definitely is ready for her forever home. she would be taken in heartbeat by any of our employees. but everybody there has pets already they can take more. so she definitely needs a forever home. >> the information is on your screen if you werable to help her out. let me ask you before we go if folk at home you have all the equipment the treadmills and everything else to help speed 88 her journey and transformation into a slimmer pup. but if folks at home my dog is ten, 15 pounds. is there anything they can do to help out without going through all those fancy steps of the work out schedule. >> for sure. they can definitely and should definitely talk to their own v vet. maybe choose a different diet. diet plan. some prescription weight loss diets work better than others and just get out wit

we had dr. dyson in here as well mark, to talk about what was going to come up. you were there. you moderated. talk about some of the issues that came up during this town hall. >> process of moving forward. how do we them begin to change the numbers through public policy and so, you know, one of things we talked about we look at access to capital. 2014 the wall street journal reported there were $23.09 billion in small business loans handed out african-americans only received 385 million of that. largely because of the housing crisis. black america through the housing crisis last eight years loft 53% of all black wealth. and so it become how do you affect that in public policy and so that was one of the things that our panel wanted to be able to lay that out. what happens when these conversations we often talk about what has happened to opposed what should happen. the challenge then becomes okay when we come back next year, then how do you then change the game h d

this is what we're accomplish last year the question is, what actually improved how are we proactive making that happen. >> i asked dr. dyson and mark more yell about this when they were here. if you're in the audience how do you take what's being said on the stage and put that into practice if you're just a regular joe so to spoke. >> first that's one of things that whether i'm moderating or even giving a keynote speech giving people tangible things for them to be able to do. and so we begin to talk about how you impact improving our communities for me my parents were the founders a civic club where i grew up in houston. and so giving people that sort of advice. also, we begin to talk about how do you begin to change folks mentally when it comes to, you know, $1.1 trillion spendig power what is the investment power? and so how do you begin to change that? and so when you leave, one of the things i often do is, if you have a niece or nephew or

latest fashionable, you know, shoe from lebron james something those along those lines, by them a nicky stock instead of the tennis shoe. you're actually changing the viewpoint in terms of what you're looking for and so that's what we always trying to do. getting folks to move from just hearing it then saying okay were can i now get involved? that's actually asking them what's the one thing you care about? so we make all these lists. i want change this, this, this. focus on one thing for 365 days. >> right. >> and then say, okay, what's next. >> right. do you find that it's easier to or better to attack problem that way as opposed to trying to figure out how to tack the problem on capitol hill where the people who are in charge of making the rules that effect people. >> actually more people impacted by what happens in local economies than they are what's happening in washington, d.c. part of the problem we have so much attention on d.c. because national media largely focuses on washington, d.c. but one of things we
