couple minutes away. charles and stafford. we're concerned with these because of the heavy rain and also the strong winds that have the potential to bring down trees and we know that's a problem. this is another severe thunderstorm warning page rappahannock shenandoah and warren and that goes until 5:30. all these storms are moving northeast with very heavy rain, lots of lightning, gusts to 60 and maybe hail to the size of quarters. out here we have a flash flood worth in shenandoah until 7:45. the storm that passed their area deposited about an inch to an inch and half of rain and they already had heavy rain earlier today. clearly lots going on with all of these. look at the lightning associated with these storms and even hail reported. that's what you see in the purple. we saw that cross over king george. you may see a little of that in northern portions of saint mary's county. we're watching this not far weigh you might have a little hail in there and it's a big system but i really think that betweenow

7 o'clock, that's going to brm m is feeding off [inaudible] to let these storms pass on through and again worried about flash flooding on some of the beltway areas. while you look at that i'm just hearing a lot of ticking going on here. we're getting reports of gusts to 51 and 40. these are coming out of dolgren and hill to the size of an inch in prince george's county. that's potential. that's not an actual report. we did actually get a report of some hail to the size of quarters in king george county just a little while ago. obviously it is going to be a busy evening. we did expect this. i'll tell you what we'll do, as we get new warnings and things we need to warn you about as these storms are getting ready to push through the district and into our northern suburbs we'll come right back and let you know who's got the warnings. i'll be closely monitoring all of this. a busy two hours ahead. >> certain will be.

during these storms it is best that you remain inside. you want to be safe from hail or debris. >> if you're watching us at home and you're seeing us talk about these weather alerts, yes, it may not affect you right now but we cover a big area here and a lot of people are on the roads heading home maybe getting a jump start on sn tisha lewis, you're in fairfax right now. >> reporter: jim, that's right, we are in fairfax now. we're turning on lee highway and we are headed toward the storm as these storms continue to move east to west. and all of this is hitting as people are -- some people as you mentioned jim getting a head start on the memorial day holiday weekend travel. now, again, we were expecting some heavy rain, some wind, some thunder and even hail with the potential to cause some damage t now, obviously this weather is moving through, the weather that's moving through could put a strain not only on the rush hour traffic but again, the

lightning is also expected. we've been seeing some little pockets of lightning ahead and you can see kind of what we're seeing here in this fairfax neighborhood. we've turned now onto shirley gate road. you can see the clouds and the skies, they look very ominous and getting darker right now, so, again, we're headed toward the storm on shirley gate road in fairfax. areas like manassas, burke, clifton, oakton and fairfax all areas that are expected to see this storm and we've been monitoring it very closely and also following our meteorologist sue palka for updates on social media. let us know on social media if you see anything, if you spot any hail, obviously make sure you're staying safe but let us know on our social media platforms on fox5 d.c. if you experience or if you see any damage,. we're going to be keeping a close eye on all of this throughout the evening. tisha lewis fox5

>> all right, new tonight, a rockville man is charged with buying blood from dozens of people in southwest d.c. he is now charged with practicing nursing without a license. >> this is a strange story. fox5's alexandria limon live at d.c. superior court. that's where the suspect was set to appear today. hi, alex. >> reporter: hey, guys and the police report says this man was storing large quantities of blood in an apartment in southwest d.c. and that he was paying people $30 each per withdrawal and that he also paid at least 40 different people over the course of the past couple of days but court documents also reveal he had a list with more than 200 names on it. now, like you said, this is all very odd. the 43-year-old is from rockville and he's charged with practicing medicine without a license in d.c. according to the police acvi

abandoned building. when officers arrived they found a large group of people and officers recognized them as habitual. police say they were never able to get ahold h company nguyen claimed to work for. officers found large quantities of blood improperly stored. the most bizarre thing about it all is we don't know why he was doing at this time, why he was allegedly purchasing blood and storing it. we were hoping to learn some of that information in court today. he was scheduled to appear for an arraignment at d.c. superior court but at this point we're still waiting for that arraignment that's yet to happen. reporting live in northwest d.c. t-alexandria limon, fox5

local news. >> and wreouy tonight where there's a developing story police have now made an arrest after an elderly man was found dead. a victim discovered by police this morning during a welfare check in his home on the 9,000 block of mill street in fort washington. the suspect arrested on palmer road just a couple blocks away from where that victim was found. >> when officers arrived, they along with the fire department, they ended up forcing entry into the residence here due to some circumstances that they observed at the residence. once inside, they did find a man inside an adult male unresponsive and he was pronounced dead here at the residence. >> no word yet on a possible motive but they're doing an autopsy to figure out the exact cause of death. also breaking news tonight about maryland congressman elijah cummings. according to his office the long time democrat is recovering at johns hopkins. we're told it was minimally

cummings will remain in the hospital for the next couple of days. >> ♪ >> okay, i promised you we would come back if we had new information and we do t wanted to let you know new warnings have gone out ahead of that storm you a just showing null charles county. as we go to radar this is going to include a very small sliver of the district of columbia but pit encompass a lot of prince george's county and calvert and on down into a little small portion of anne arrundel county. that is going to go until 5:45. as i mentioned, we are certainly in prime time and i would say that's probably one of the biggest storms we've been watching. let me put this in motion as it is moving from southwest to northeast at 35 miles an hour. we'll get in a little bit closer and you can see that that hasn't quite gotten to the beltway yet but it won't be long. i'm sure you are seeing some of those lightning strikes if you're looking south from 495 and let's get you a little storm tracker on here to show you some of the communities that may be in the path of the storm as it

northeast. that would mean alexandria it's almost to you. it will come through the district and it's a small sliver of it but you'll definitely feel it in the district at about 5:18. chillum 5:24. berwyn at 5:27 and vansville at 5:32 so that is a storm particularly strong right now as we put that in motion. also wanted to show you that we continue to watch a storm that is also strengthening. let me get in a little bit closer on this one and thats moving out of loudoun county toward frederick. that one also has a lot of lightning with it and certainly some very heavy downpours. plenty to keep an eye on. i'm also continuing to get some updates over here. those severe thunderstorm warnings that we've been talking about, the big concern is going to be gust that is could take down trees as well as the possibility of not only hail that could be large and to the size of half inch but a tremendous amount of rain. this is really loaded with rain as you can probably tell and with the round that we had this morning, the ground is saturated, so we'll

>> ♪ >> hi there. live in the weather center let's get you caught up on all of the severe thunderstorm warnings that are going on right now. straight to radar, the yellow boxes are severe thunderstorm warnings in our area so, let's get you caught up. we're still tracking this strong storm moving through charles county into prince george's county. it's going to affect parts of several counties but this one that i just clicked on, the concern is gusts to 60 and hail to the size of quarters. gusts that strong are capable of taking down some trees and limbs. we and want you to be very careful about that. so waldorf clinton fort washington, forestville, these are moving to the northeast pretty quickly at about 30 miles an hour. so, that's one. there's another small sliver of a storm area right here.

william and stafford. same deal. storms moving a little slower here northeast at 15 but gusts to 60 and quarter size hail. that's a real concern. we're going to slide you a little bit farther to the west now because we have another [inaudible] that we want to get you caught up on this storm also moving northeast is about 12 miles southeast of woodstock. this is page rappahannock and warren another seven or eight hints minutes for you guys. same deal with the gusts to 60. the heavy -- the storms are moving fast enough that so far so good. we have not had too many reports of flash flooding but, boy, there's a lot of rain going on with these storm systems. i'll put it in motion. d.c. inquiry weir just about --we're just about ready to get in on it. not only do we have heavy rain and lightning moving northeast it will come through the beltway, coming through northern prince george's county but there's another storm up here. this one has moved out of loudoun county heading into frederick. there is in the a warning on this storm but boy is there a lot going on with it. we'll keep an eye on it. he

charges in connection with a noose found hanging at crofton middle school. connor prout and john ha john hr man. police identified the suspect with the help of surveillance video. >> ♪ >> well, the investigation continues into that deadly terror attack at a concert in manchester, england. >> but reports of leaks out of the united states about that british investigation has put a strain on the relationship between britain and the u.s. fox5's political reporter ronica cleary live with more now. hey, ronica. >> reporter: hey, jim and sarah. well, you know, active investigations, they're treated differently than closed investigations. you always hear it that when an investigation is active, less information, if any information is shared with the public. well, the same is true for the active investigation right now into those manchester terror attacks. so, when news broke that u.s. and officials leaked information to the media about

to that uk terror attack,e shary more information with the u.s. about that attack. okay, so, prime minister theresa may she actually made a point to speak with the president today in brussels at that nato summit about just this issue and the president really responded in kind with this statement about the leaks and really all leaks that have plagued his presidency. take a look at this. he says in part, the alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling. the leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security. i'm asking the department of justice and other relevant agencies to launch a complete review of this matter and if appropriate, the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. now, i spoke with attorney scott bolden about how common leaks like this really are. take a

>> during the obama administration, during the clinton administration, this is not something new actually. every department of justice fbi looks at leaks. in fact under the obama administration at least eight individuals were prosecuted for leaking secure documents or classified documents. so, it's not unusual. what's unusual here under the trump administration is the volume of leaks that are coming to reporters each and every day over the last 125 or plus days. >> reporter: well, bolden went on to explain that a leaker coastal low face up to 20 years behind bars possibly more depending on the number of charges they face. so, we will that continue to follow this and see if the department of justice does uncover leakers behind this in particular or maybe other leaks that we've seen since the president took office o reporting live in northwest, ronica cleary, fox5 local news. >> meantime the white house this week redoubled its effort

funding for the cleanup of the chesapeake bay. fiscal year 2018 budget 73 million bucks has been wiped out. >> it's a decision that has really alarmed environmentalists see the bay getting cleaner every day. fox5's has the story from annapolis. >> reporter: environmental scientists gave the bay a grade of c the best it's had in three decades now lawmakers and be activists feel the reduction of federal money is nothing but a giant step backward. the chesapeake bay is a vital waterway with an check engine that drives commerce tourism and provide seafood for millions of residents in pennsylvania, delaware, maryland, virginia and the district. the crab population is thriving. the yearly counts keep climbing. water right here have you noticed over the years that it's gotten clean around here. >> it has gotten clean. >> reporter: allison prooust whose offer

says she can see to the bottom in places she has never seen before. >> they love coming here its so clear. they can see when there's crabs and other critters now. >> reporter: she says the money provided by the feds which must be matched dollar for dollar from each recipient has made a big difference in the state of the bay. >> we know that this partnership is working, the cooperation between the fderal government, the states in the chesapeake bay watershed local partners on the ground and we're seeing results so it is baffling to us why you would want to mess with success. >> reporter: just about three weeks ago maryland's u.s. senators announced they had restored the $73 million the white house wanted to take out of the 2017 fiscal year budget and now the fight is on again. >> throughout the watershed less pollution is going into the bay than there has been in many years and the system's responding. you know, the grade reflects the bay grasses are the highest in four years, dead zones smaller, crabs are

coming back. oysters are starting a slow recovery and that's all a result of this partnership. >> reporter: the bay not only provides jobs but it's also home to maryland's famous blue crabs which are devour pedestrian miles a -- devoured s away from the shores. we asked a few boaters what they thought of the plan to wipe out the federal funds. >> it's one of the largest water sheds on the east coast. i think it's important it needs to be protected. >> i hate to see them eliminate all of it. over the past 10 years that i've been coming down here from new jersey, you can tell how [inaudible] has been. >> reporter: maryland senator chris van hollen says he'll fight tooth and nail to restore the funding and believers he'll be successful. the budget says the epa wants to focus encore programs and get away from geographic ones like here on the chesapeake bay. in annapolis, paul wagner, fox5 local news.

in the car laughed at me while i was on my car and tried moving and throwing me off. i don't think it's fully sunk in how really bad that could have been. i know it is not the right decision but it was my gut instinct. >> i was going to say, yeah, that's just what she was doing at the time. she's like i got to do this. after a couple seconds though the person inside the suv jumped out left it in gear though. fortunately she was able to jump off the vehicle and get her car back. the thieves got away with her purse wallet and cell phone but she's okay. >> she's okay that's the important part but i think that's a perfect example of don't try this at home. >> yeah you. >> you've probably seen the video the moment a sea lion snatched a young girl o off the pier while she was sitting on the edge. a man was that able to jump in and rescue her. he was able to lift her to safety but we're learning the girl has to get some medical attention to prevent a rare infection called seal finger. the infection caused

bacteria found in the mouths of sea animals. if left untreated it could lead to loss of limbs. >> the el galleon a tall ship docked around 5:00 this morning at the alexandria marina. it's a replica of the 16th century spanish ships. they were cargo ships used to transport spices and livestock but they also brought slaves over to america. you can check out the replica if you wants to all weekend long. the tours will run through 7 o'clock monday evening. wow. what a sight. >> yeah. we've been talking quite a bit about the forecast out there. getting some -- checking out our fox5 weather app. we've got severe thunderstorms. look at how dark it got out here. where are we looking? this is maryland, correct. >> i think you're looking in the district, right look, toward ox -- is that the oxon hill. >> anyway it is raining heavily. >> can't deny. >> parts of the district under a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of southeastern d.c. until about 5:45. i'm going see if that clicks

but the yellow boxes you'll see behind me here and of course all that heavy rain that is moving through from southwest to northeast, the big concerns tonight gusts to 60 because of the threat with trees, hail that could be to the size of three-quarters of an inch. we've had a few reports of that. and a lot of heavy rain. i'm seeing reports of flash flooding going on toward lubbostville area. they did make an upday. let us get in here because earlier this is now just changed so we're doing weather on the fly here but the good news is you get to find out all about it firsthand so this warning was just scaled back but it does include the city of alexandria... they clicked off something else here. they just clicked all of those off so that warning was just canceled a minute ago but we continue to have this one in the yellow. this is on the eastern shore until 6:15 dorchester some somerset. gusts to

and here's what we're watching on that big areas of rain, this one from that d.c. stretching all the way down to the bay, almost to cambridge and then another big area that we see up here just about crossing interstate 70 in frederick county grazing a little bit of montgomery county. we'll see what this line does back here toward front royal. that's moving more to the east but obviously this is coming through at prime time for rush hour and it cannot be fun on the roads. did i mention there's plenty of lightning with it? as we put this in motion for the last hour, you'll be able to see the strikes very prolific especially east of the city and as i box out the area right here through d.c., over to prince george's county and through calvert county, a portion of it, that's about 509 strikes in the last 30 minutes. i'm also tracking some hail. the hail threats seems to be going way down but we tracked pretty good hail core across king george county and then through saint mary's county over to calvert. looks a lot better now and any of the hail reports that we've been seeing

kind of hit or miss. hail does not seem to be as big of a problem as it often is. but everything in motion, our big upper level low is trying to get its way out of here. because we got sunny and hot and humid this afternoon we popped into the 70's. plenty of gasoline for this storm and it fired up these storms. the worst should be over though by about 8, 9 o'clock. these are the risks. flash flooding moderate. strong winds moderate. the large hail threat not too high. tornado threat very low tonight so your evening planner looks like this as we expect a temperature of about 67 degrees at 7 o'clock. everything is rain cooled again. by 9 o'clock really winding down, just some leftover showers. by 11 o'clock only have clouds. we chase most of it out of here as you can see. friday is a much drier day. notice i said much drier. not a hundred percent dry. clouds to start in the morning. there might be a couple showers in the afternoon but by no stretch of the imagination is it going to be a repeat. unfortunately a bit more rain possible as

seven-day forecast including saturday afternoon there could be a couple of storms around, a temperature of 80. sunday scattered storms 80 and maybe the best day of the three-day holiday weekend will be memorial day with only spotty showers and storms. can't even rule them out on tuesday. so, a little bit of an unsettled stretch but not a washout. still some pool time in there. can't rule out the possibility storms as we head on into saturday, sunday. i walked off camera a second just to let you know that in triangle we have reports of a tree down near the intersection of graham park road and cabin road so keeping track of all of that in your seven-day forecast. we will that certainly continue to track strong storms and any other warnings that pop up in the course of our next hour and 15 minutes on the air. sarah and jim back to you. >> thank you sue. >> good reminder again download the fox5 weather app. all right, we've been talking about this throughout the day. party getting started here at fox5. two ballou high school senior he is getting glammed up for
