yard. jared kushner is under investigation into the russia influence in the 2016 election. >> this is the hottest story investigators believe kushner has significant information relevant to the case. now, they do not suspect him of the crime or intend to press charges, it's not what this means. kushner has come under scrutiny because of two meetings that he had in december with a russian ambassador and a russian banker. attorney scott bolton joins us to break this down. explain, because when we first were hearing kushner's name mixed up in this, there seemed to be a lot of, here we go again and now this g
6:31 pm
the russian, which he was, why aren't they interested in prosemosecute him? based on information that the fbi has, as well as the special prosecutor, at this point, they haven't deemed him to be a target or a subject or anyone else. it's important to note that jared kushner not only those december meetings, which was after the campaign, he's an important figure because of what the former c.i.a. director indicated about the c.i.a. investigation. kushner and flynn were meeting with the russians in the spring, not just in december. and before that, the c.i.a. had monitored the russian's efforts or conversations that said they wanted to influence the election and they wanted to influence it where donald trump winning over hillary clinton. that's significant. because during a campaign act presidential campaign, why are there these
6:32 pm
and meetings taking place between a presidential candidate and a foreign authorities? that was strange to the former c.i.a. director and sure enough, once he got done monitoring the conversations, he saw them reach out to the campaign and to cuddle up with these individuals to in anticipation either a bribe or cuddling up and making them an unwith itting witness for their efforts. so this is kind of espionage c.i.a. stuff. that's why they're interested in kushner. not just what he can tell them. but what he can tell them about others as well >> specifically what do you mean? others as in what the russians had to say? what types of interactions are they going to be looking at? i know we weren't in the room at the time. but what types of things that the russians may have said or tried to get someone to do that the real hard evidence they will be looking for? >> what those conversations entailed. what they asked for
6:33 pm
what did jared kushner say or didn't say and more importantly are you aware of others in the trump campaign that we're not aware of. those are key questions that he can answer. kushner is offered to cooperate, that's one thing. is he going to be under oath or not? public or private? or a deposition. because he got a great lawyer in jamie gorlick, but when you're put under oath, that's a lot different than coming in and having a conversation >> a lot of the concern over this matter is we know how russia operates. we know clearly they tried to influence elections around the world. however, isn't it entirely possible that some of this communication between the trump know in russia or previously - worked with was innocent? other presidential campaigns have had contact with foreign entities while a campaign has been
6:34 pm
>> that may be true, and those communications, trust me, were monitored and they were benign, here there's some reports that say the trump campaign had at least 18 communications with russian impressive during the campaign, not just after, but during the campaign. that would raise any eyebrow, and that's why the former c.i.a. director referred these communications and these his suspicions to the fbi, that triggered this investigation by the fbi in the fall of 2016. so again, maybe it's benign, maybe there's no crime, maybe there is, there's no crime in colluding or talking to the russians, if you will, but what merits the investigation is other circumstantial evidence like not putting down all of those meetings with the russians. the fbi director, certainly did -- the attorney general certainly didn't and kushner did not originally then amended it. why would you
6:35 pm
getting the security clearance filling out that form? there's a lot to investigate here and colluding or talking to the russians isn't a crime in and of itself but if money was exchanged or any other crime came out of those discussions or acts, you've got something not just to investigate. you got something to prosecutes. >> thank you so much for coming in and breaking this down for us, we appreciate apt >> thank you. one of the things that we're concerned about as we head to the holiday weekend is the weather, gwen got an update. >> i'm telling you the pressure is on me because it a holiday weekend as it always is. we're serving up some a variety of things, should good, some not so good. but we've got clouds that are rolling in, and what we're keeping a close eye on is this storm system right here in the midsection of the country because it is definitely headed our way and they're seeing watches and warnings associated with it. we will definitely be talking storms that will fire up across our re
