getting helpful hints how to prepare crabs on the grill. >> crabs on the grill. little bit of everything. chicken. >> all right. >> do it all. >> we'll do it all out here. come out and join us. come out and joan us as well. back in to you. >> certainly will. thank you tuck. time now for the morning briefing. first up president donald trump first memorial day as commander in chief. today he'll deliver an address at the arlington national cemetery. also lay a wreath in hahn non of the men and women who fought and died for our country. the president gave a little preview of his speech on saturday before flying home from italy when he spoke to us service members stationed abroad. he promised to boost military spending and his unshakeable support to america's men and women in uniform. meanwhile, another member of the president's inner circle getting caught up in the growing russia investigation his son jared kushner allegedly made a proposal to the russian ambassador to bypass traditional diplomatic channels and suggest a secret communications channel between the

russia using russian diplomatic facilities to do that it. some democrats are now calling for kushner to take a leave of absence during this fbi probe. homeland security secretary john kelly says he doesn't know if those reports are true, but describes back channel communications as a good thing. president trump arrived home in dc after that nine day trip abroad over the weekend and admittedly took to twitter to vent his frustration about recent white house leaks and his distrust in the media. fox's kristin fisher has more on the twitter storm and what's ahead for the administration this week. >> reporter: right now this white house is pro pairing to aggressive defense itself against a barrage of leaks and the on hoy going russian investigation. to that end, president trump pros' private attorney for the russia probe and you have can have a trump casso witnesses is a high powered new york attorney known for being aggressive and hired by president trauma top represent him in this investigation. behind the scenes there's this

room led by chief strategist steve ban i don't know but playing out in full view is president donald trump's on going war against leakers he tweeted about it four times. here's one of those tweets "whenever you see the words sources say in the fake news median they don't mention names, it's very possible that those sources don't exist burt are made up by fake news quieter. fake news is the enemy "that sent many was echoed across the sunday shows. newt beginning rush said leakers should go to jail. john kelly called the intelligence leak in the manchester bombing close to treason. >> it's outrageous. i don't know why people do it. it jeopardizes not only investigations but puts people's lives in jeopardy. i don't know why people do it. but they do. and that's the world we live. >> in two other things to watch for this week. announcement on whether or not president trump plans to pull out of the paris climate accord and a possible announcement on a new fbi director to replace jame

at the white house, kristin fisher, fox news. meanwhile, former fbi director james comey is expected to testify on capitol hill this week. he will tell his side of the story in the investigation into alleged ties between russia and the president's campaign. comey will testify to the senate intelligence committee and the big question is, did the president ask comey to drop the investigation? a recent fox news poll shows that 60% of voters think the president fired comey because the investigation was harming him. german chancellor angela merkel says europe must become more celery line the times in when we can fully count on others somewhat over. she made the remarks in a campaign speech yesterday comes just days after president trump's first official visit to rue europe. chancellor merkel never mentioned president trump in her speech but her comments seemed to be aimed at him and his clash with european leaders at the 77 meeting and g8 summit. >> british police

more people and raided more locations yesterday as they hunted for more suspects in the manchester bombing. right now 13 people are in custody for questioning in the terror attack that left 22 people dead and more than 100 injured at an ariana grande concert. 54 people still in the hospital. grande will perform a benefit concert fort victims on ju june 4th. us ban on laptops from passenger cabins on some international flights may be expanded. the head of the department of homeland security says the u.s. could soon ban laptops from the passenger cabins of all international flights. it is because of the possibility of that threat that terrorists could be hiding bombs inside laptop computers. back in march u.s. ban all electronic larger than smart phones in carry on luggage from ten cities mostly in the middle east. >> portland oregon the man who killed two people on public transit train is due in court this morning. jeremy christian being held without bail. police say on friday he verbally assaulted a girl wearing a hijab

three good good samaritans stepped in to help the girls he attack them stabbing them in the neck. two died. the third perp is still recovering. go fun me has been set up for the survivor michael david cole fletcher. >> family dispute turn dead until lincoln mississippi over the weekend eight people were shot and killed including a sheriffs deputy. police say it all started when 35-year-old willie corey got bolt got into a fight with his estranged wife and her family over his children. gunfire erupted saturday night at his in law's home. got bolt wanted his estranged wife to give him two children and sherry few. he went on a deadly saturday shooting rampage killing seven family members and the sheriff's deputy. he faces seven counts of first degree murder and one count of capital murder. >> dc police are still looking for two gunmen who shot eight people early saturday morning. this happened along q street northwest of the one of the victims 32-year-old jones

southeast died. the other victims are expect the to recover. the shooting.n the motive for- police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads them to the persons responsible. to montgomery county police there searching for suspects who assaulted a man at a hotel. 24-year-old man later died from his injuries. this happened early sunday morning at the days inn in silver spring. witnesses told police the man was assaulted by group of people. he managed to return to his room to call for help but did later dye at the hospital. dozens of lawsuits against metro and d.c. over deadly incident that happened on the metro in 2015 have been dismissed. the washington post is reporting that 25 cases will be dismissed over an electrical malfunction that caused a train to fill with smoke at will he fan plaza. the incident killed one person and injured more than 80 others. 9:10 is the time. another real housewife heading for divorce. coming up later ashley at war

with special challenges. >> we brought three pretty good representatives today. >> this is meghan. >> sleeping meghan. >> she's blind. >> sleeping meghan. >> hi sweetie. >> we have ernie here. ernie is actually paralyzed. >> oh, ernie. such a sweet face. >> dell me ernie's story. >> actually jumped up on a door to salem came in when he came down his spine collapse. >> ernie has been with you for a long time. >> oh yeah. >> ernie has been with us for about five years. and then lucy here fairly recent addition to our home. we adopted her out schenn became came back. she was was a victim of a gunshot wound. >> i'm so sorry. >> she asked if she wanted to stay and she came in our home. never left. >> act like she's been there her entire life. >> could you give training to people to help them with pets that have special needs? >> absolutely. >> we also people need a wheelchair for dog that had an operation or gets old we'll assist them with getting a chair because we actually have program people donate chairs back to us. >> tell me about aren't knee and this particular -- what we cal

taken that long because it is the most complicated and challenging story we've ever told. it's also one of the most important moments in american history and something that most americans don't know that much about giving how influential and important it has been. it took us that long to try to understand it. >> i'm sorry. i have to apologie i actually can't hear what you're saying right now. but i know our viewers can hear what you are saying. talk a little bit about what you learned from this. i mean this is what you do. you all have done so many a claimed films. but this particular project, did it change you in any way? >> it changed me in every possible way. you know, i think we went in thinking we knew about it. i loved through the vietnam war. i had a high draft number. i had a pins. i had information. but i think this was a daily

the vietnam war is the most important event in american history in the second half of the 20th century a good deal of the division that is we suffer from today are a product of that war and so if we want to get back to the kind of americans i know we can be in which we pitch in together that we work across the aisle from each other and get things done and not this partisan bark and forth we've going to back and unpack what happened in vietnam and understand what sacrifice was involved with more than 58,000 names behind me and in doing that, we can help heel the wounds of vietnam but we can actually help heal ourselves right now. >> you all have work together so well for so long. you obviously have a chemistry. what do you think makes you two worked to such impactful work that you do? [ laughter ] >> well, i think from the start it's really a passion for the story that we're trying to tell

then we bring together incredible team of writers, editors, sin in a graphs and everybody just sort of puts our oars in the water in the same same direct to put our arms around this complicated story and we're lucky enough to be standing here to take the credit for the work of a lot of incredibly talented people. >> i was just listening to a veteran who lost his dad and his dad's gunner and his dad's pilot and they're listed right next to each other on the wall, and so this celebration team work. it isn't just the individual names behind each individual name is a story and grief and loss and heroism and courage. but there's also a story about comradeship and togetherness and i think that you don't make a film it's not like being in combat of course and we wouldn't even suggest that we're equating it but something extraordinary that when we americans work together that us as film makers as team as members of our military working as a team we get things done and i think

that we take from the vietnam as well as the most important and that is that we will no longer if we've learned one lesson from vietnam we will no longer blame the warriors. we will separate the war whether we agree with it or not from the warriors, and i think this unbelievable monument is the first attempt to come to terms with that truth and the only lesson that we seem to learned and will not forget. >> one of things i was just speak to go one of the -- vietnam vet want he was saying when he heard about the wall he didn't like the idea of it. didn't want to come but he came with his son who's also in the army, and for him it was the experience of being here and walking through this space and seeing names and the names of his friends an cousin who died, and in a way not to equate our film with this extraordinary work of art but the sense that we have to tell the story, and we have to kind of life through it again to understand what happened and maybe we can gain a

are. >> you are in town not only talking about your documentary, of course, but you're serving as largest memorial day parade in the country. and appropriately it happens here in the nation's today and capital. what does it mean to you to be able to serve in that role today and what will be your thoughts as you roll down constitution avenue? >> it is the most humbling of honors that we've had, and i think that both lynn and i take this very seriously. this is an important day each year it's an important day, and it's a complicated day. it means a lot of sadness for a lot of american families and it requires those of us who have been fortunate enough to survive to benefit from the freedoms they protected to reflect on that and to honor that during the day and i think the best we can do is to hold the highest office in the land which is citizen. and that's what we plan to do. >> lynn and ken, you are two amazing people. we are so grateful for the work that you

story telling is so impeccable. i just think he's got the best job. >> you know you've made an impact on your field when there's an effect named after you. there's an actual ken burns effect. >> it's interesting every time i hear people talking about the vietnam war, my father was drafted to go to the vietnam war. we had made -- moved to seattle to fort lewis in seattle and the first wave went which included one of his friends from our hometown. he got killed over in vietnam. my dad was on the next wave to go. they ended the war. >> wow. >> so it would have been -- i mean, you know. so every time i hear all this stuff that went on in vietnam and i have other relatives it went and how horrific it was obvious because of the war to think about that and the fact that my dad could have been over there, it's -- um. >> humbling. >> a lot of the scars afterwards, too. that catch up with you. from what i've seen from family members and because i guess it's so much that goes on we will never know

i've always been curious what the idea behind that was and who came up with that. >> sure. we have a farm in kentucky. we had these trees that are 300 years old. and so we photographed the tree and that's the tree in the logo, but the idea behind it is, you take an idea and it blossoms into something beautiful and that's what the lightning hits you, you know, you come up with an idea, and then you have this beautiful tree that blooms and which is really a movie or whatever. >> i have a message from captain salizar. tell him -- would you stay to him, please. >> there's a great scene i think this was in the first that got released you're in the jail cell and xavier walks in as captain salizar, and he's talking to you and there's like that black stuff spewing from his mouth. i wonder when you're across
