early this morning. brian moles is still lock up. he'll make his first appearance in dc superior court tomorrow afternoon. it was around 12:30 this morning, dc police say they received the tip from the state police. that brian moles was on his way to the city and he had firearms in the car. after alerting the secret service and security at the hotel. they found moments about a half hour after he had checked in. after searching his car, police handgun, a carbon bush master rival, 30 rounds of 7.62 ammo and 60 rounds of .223 ammo. moles of erie pens has been charged with carrying a pistol without a license and unregistered ammunition. although moles has not been charged with making threats, chief peter newsham said earlier, they took the initial tip very seriously. >> i can tell you this. i wa

circumstance, very peculiar circumstance. and i believe that the officers and our federal partners and in particular, the tipster coming forward overt add potential disaster here in our nation's capitol. >> the protective intelligence interview of mr. moles was conducted by agents of the washington field office which revealed that he pose nod immediate threat to any secret service protectees, the secret service in conjunction with the federal, state and local partners is conducting a comprehensive investigation to insure the safety of all secret service protect is and all citizens of the district of columbia >> we want to show you video that was shot at this -- mr. moles's home outside of erie, pennsylvania, actually, it's just outside of he did den borrow. i spoke with the police chief. he doesn't know who brian moles is, never heard of him and doesn't know anything about what had happened at the trump
6:33 pm
we just don't know the initial tip, what that was all about. we should be able to find out more tomorrow when he makes his first appearance at dc superior court. the associated press is reported that moles is actually a physician who has a license to practice there in that community outside of erie, live outside the trump hotel, paul wagner fox 5 local news >> it will be interested to find out what happens tomorrow. you thank you, paul. trending on 5at630, the investigation into russia's med link. james comey got the green light to testify publicly. he will confirm if president trump pressured him to end his investigation into top trump aids. former national security advisor michael flynn handed over docments to the senate intel committee related to his businesses along with other personal documents. president trump's personal attorney michael cohen rejected congressional requests for cooperation into the
6:34 pm
investigation. we're also learning that former white house official bore ris epsheen has been contacted as part of that house investigation, epsheen recently signed on with sin collar broadcasting. >> there's talk president trump will withdrawal from the paris climate accord. and whether that could take a former withdrawal that could take years. pulling out of the deal would mark major symbol in the president's efforts to unraffle obama era climb change policies. only other countries not part of the deal syria and nick rag. what. >> that's the big thing. do you want to put the u.s. in that category with those countries? i know a lot of governors come out. we heard from terry mcauliffe said virginia will do what it needs to do. same thing from the mayor and go
6:35 pm
>> the bottom line is one of the reasoneds he said he wanted to do this he said it was about to make america great again but a lot of people are saying these treaties will hurt businesses. she's no stranger to controversy. we talked about kathy griffin and we talked about this last night and man did the story build up. under fire for the picture she made mocking president trump. she made an anapol apology. >> let's bring in tom fitzgerald with the fall-out and the reaction. >> reporter: that's not only the end of her trouble. she's out of a couple of jobs. cnn announcing that they have dumped griffin as the host of their annual new year's eve programming. there was also a casino out west that has cancelled a july 22'nd appearance and there was a bathroom accessories company that only signed her three weeks ago to be a spokesperson for
6:36 pm
that company. they're flushing that contract tonight. kathy griffin will no longer be the spokesperson for that company. now, fox 5 did speak with the u.s. secret service tonight about this. what we heard was along the lines of what paul wagner just brought you a moment ago. their quote to his directly that the u.s. secret service has looked at threats against their protectees as their highest priorities. when it comes to investigation. law enforcement officials that we spoke to as well tonight telling us that what they were looking at in essence of this photo, if you seen it you know what we're talking about. we're not going to show it to you because of its nature, kathy griffin holding what appears to be the blooded head of a donald trump figure with that head covered in blood in her hand. now, law enforcement officials said this is concerning in regards to raising to that standard of concern because of the imagery involved. they're going to r going to be
6:37 pm
talking not only to griffin but the photography. we're going to talk a little bit more about this and what's involved. first play for you this apology. we didn't have this last night when we were on the air at 6:30, this is how kathy griffin went online and apologized >> i sincerely apologized. i'm just now seeing the reaction. i'm a comic, i crossed the line, i moved the line then i cross it. i went way too far. the image is disturbing. i understand how it offends people. it wasn't funny. i get it. i've made a lot of mistakes in my career, i will continue. i ask your forgive ness. taking down the image i'll ask the photography to take down the image and i beg for your forgive ness, i went too far, made a mistake and i was wrong. >> reporter: so there's been questions about the optic as couple of times in that apology. she's shown to be rolling her eyes. we put a simple question up on facebook for fox 5, do you think this apology was
6:38 pm
2000 people saying they don't believe it. only about 500 saying they do believe it's sincere. legally the issue was this, threatening a president of the united states is what's called a class e felon. carries with it a five-year federal prison sentence if convicted. also a quarter million fine. so there are real serious questions facing this comedian. it's not only that cnn is not going to use her for new year's eve, she's going to have to answer very serious questions about what the thinking was behind it want she hoped to accomplish in putting this out there to the public >> we know that the president came out this morning and had a couple tweets and then, of course, talked about kathy griffin. look, this is not new. we saw certainly during the obama administration, there were, a lot of people saying, you're always going to come back to obama.
6:39 pm
dummies of him hung from trees. donald trump didn't say a lot about it back then. >> fair point. a lot of people are bringing that up today. you know, we will say what's been passed is pro log with donald trump ever before he steps foot in the white house, we know this is a man when a businessman quick to the trigger when other celebrities, be it somebody like arnold schwarzenegger or rosy o'donnell would attack him on line, he would respond quickly. this appears to be consistent with what we've phone about donald trump and his activity on line and social networks and twitter especially since he devilled into this area. there are other people asking questions about why these situation in oregon didn't get this kind of quick response, why some other situations >> took about three days for that >> why some of these other situations of that gone on in our world are not
6:40 pm
quick response. the simple answer at a glance seems to be when the president hears his name mentioned, he's more likely than not to respond quickly. this does not seem to be out of line with those previous cases we've mentioned when celebrities are apt to take a shot >> snoop dogg came out with some sort of video and imagery, the president took to twitter to blast snoop dogg >> as well he should, he has every right to do that. >> yes. >> but i think, that's the point there, there was a lot of outrage and rightfully so. this is the american president. a lot are saying this was not right. but did you hear the same outrage when the shoe was on other foot? that's the question a lot of people are bringing up >> from a law enforcement standpoint, secret service looks at this as something different than
6:41 pm
schwarzenegger or rose o'donnell on twitter. obviously, as you heard them say today, in their statement, involving a protectee, they put at the top of their list, kathy griffin and her photography no doubt will have to answer questions. >> fitz you know how it goes, actions have consequences and kathy griffin she's learning that the hard way tonight for sure. >> in a whole lot of way, in the pocket, every place else let's talk about the weather, earlier it was sunny and beautiful. then we saw storms roll through outside and i swear i saw sunshine >> i'm sure it's back out again, in fact, shawn, we're seeing this line of storms move away now. we still have a warning for baltimore until 7:15 and this is the same storm we've been tracking since about fairfax county. actually even farther back, culpeper, and it's still producing hail up there toward baltimore but you can see most of the rest of the areait
6:42 pm
george's county annapolis and the waldorf area just about cleared on out now. so we may have a pretty nice evening, this is kind of taking a lot of the energy out of the atmosphere, but before i show you that, i also want to say that as we look up to the north, through pennsylvania, moving pretty quickly now toward morgantown, there's another line of showers and storms, that's the frontal boundary but we think that will come through later tonight after 11:00, although i'll watch it closely to see how fast it's moving and it should just be leftover shower, here's good news, are you ready for a nice day tomorrow, a dry day? instead of these rounds of rain that we've been having, we're going to be able to ditch the showers and thunderstorms, we'll keep them around especially across northeastern maryland, maybe shower later but it does look like a beautiful sunny nice and more importantly a dry thursday ahead, bone in his, we're going to take the thunderstorms out of the friday forecast, friday also looking mainly dry if we see anything at all now on friday, it would be at night, it's only a small
6:43 pm
saturday as well. sunday things get unsettled and the big part of next week, chance of showers and storms, shawn and jim send it back to you >> loving that, mainly dry friday. once upon a time, ben gelis wants to be the governor.
6:44 pm
6:45 pm
welcome back, former naacp president ben gelis made it official he's running for governor of maryland >> in addition to challengers he will also face a popular republican governor larry hogan if he, of course, wins the democratic primary. fox 5 ronica cleary joins us with more on this one. ron ronica? >> reporter: i saw the tweet last night from gelis saying the announcement was coming today, and
6:46 pm
even the bigger picture that bernie sanders is not going anywhere, he launched our revolution, a group aimed to promote the ideals he brought on the campaign trail and now you see him and that organization getting behind candidates across the country to continue to promote those ideals. ben gelis led the saunders campaign efforts in the state of maryland. he is a saunders guy, if you will. and again, you know, you just take it to that other race we were talking so much about to virginia. they don't mean pre yellow has that as well. we're seeing this, he is still a voice in the democratic party and making that voice heard through the smaller races, earlier, there's a facebook live video we got some for you of ben gelis launching his campaign. he has got a big race in front of him after that democratic party, if -- after that democratic primary if he gets there, because
6:47 pm
larry hogan got great numbers, a reason poles put him at 65, now that's below as high as that was in the 70's but that's still very high approval ratings. but he started the tough talk in that announcement, if you will he said it seems like every week our governor becomes a little bit more like the lion in the wizard of oz, all strength and no political courage, if you want to hear more nearing the ideals and you know, principles that we heard put forth by sanders. >> the most important thing the next governor can do is to make sure that any marylander, who wants a job can find one. absolutely no reason that we have to accept continuation of discourage and mass incarceration or under education unemployment. let's get back to the values
6:48 pm
that are best and oh our families. let's make sure that you can inspire to go to college. let's build a movement. >> reporter: now, eight democrats have talked about or gotten into this race. between -- amongst the eight, gout some talking about it. some in. been jealous is you don't have the one of a handful of democrats going over this primary position, the race in -- in maryland is not until november of 2018. you know, there's never a dull moment here. we're talking about virginia primary and then when that's pover, who knows? we may be on to talking about the maryland primary, and as i said, ben jealous signifies this bigger picture of bernie sanders staying involved and a part of the political conversation across the country. we see it in virginia through tom perriello and ben jealous in maryland >> i don't know if you know, you mentioned there were maybe eight other names folks are being tossed around. are those names that the public we might know like we know ben
6:49 pm
>> reporter: some of them are local politicians. one of them is a person in the tech industry. so jealous may have more of that national name recognition, but you saw it in georgia with the congressional run off with as, a sometimes having that name recognition, some people criticize that, you want to have the local name recognition, it's an interesting balancing act these politicians in these local races have to find because that national support certainly helps and give us that name recognition like we see with ben jealous but then you got to sell it to the people of the state that you're one of them and you're there to fight for them. it is a balancing act. >> ronica cleary, thank you very much. talk about larry hogan, charlie baker out of massachusetts, two republicans want to stay -- have gone democratic in the past. it's an uphill battle. let's talk about terry mcauliffe. he weighed in on virginia's closely watched race, in less than two weeks, folks will
6:50 pm
ballots in the primary, and mcauliffe said even though it's an off year election, it won't be a challenge to get people out to the primary >> i do believe we're going to have a tremendous turn-out. there's a lot of angst. what i'm most encouraged about, julie is look at the number of candidates running for the state legislature seats, record number of women. all the seats, 17 district that is hillary won that are now held by republicans >> democrats ralph north um and tom perriello who is really a bernie sanders type candidate along with republicans frank wagner, kory stewart all seeking the gop nomination. new concerns surrounding president trump's use of cell phone more about it when 5at630 comes right back.

6:52 pm
across virginia, we're building an economy that works for everyone and dominion energy is helping power the companies that power our economy. tom went to washington to take on the insurance companies and the credit card companies and the wall street banks - that's what tom perriello is about. i was proud to stand with president obama because progressive causes have been my life's work. i'm tom perriello, and i'm running for governor to reduce economic inequality, raise wages, eliminate the burden of student debt and protect our climate. together we really can build a virginia that works for everyone.

sglofrjs president trump reportedly gave his personal cell phone number to a number of world leaders, those phone calls could be hacked and listened to. typically they're made on highly secure lines, the associated press reports the president gave his cell number to canada, mexico and france. >> new phone >> do you think anyone call him? >> well, think about, there was a lot of -- there's a big deal made when president obama took office because he also had the black berry and he had to come up with a super secret black berry where it had no camera, no aps >> it has been very isolating >> absolutely it is. if you're used to being a businessman and picking up your phone and making deals and you can't do that anymore in the name of national security. one can understand, it's a hazard with the job. >> president trump's former
6:54 pm
you ski could be heading to the white house to join the administration as sort of crisis manager. lou do you ski wants to push the agenda >> i want to make sure this president's agenda gets done, tax and healthcare reform and building a wall and all the things he pledged during the campaign that he gets to execute. you have to have people that surround the people who are on his agenda. >> when the trump campaign fired him, he spent the rest of the soon as a comment ator. >> he was let go because of being a little more brash. >> we went from him to paul man for the to kellyanne conaway. >> she's starting a new chapter, we're going to tell you
