midnight she snapped this photo of that car stuck in a ditch off scott town road before calling police concerned o over the loud arguing. >> police responded to the scene but they left. >> we thought it was all good for the night. we were going to go n-lock up everything and then we heard the gunshots. >> reporter: that was just 30 minutes later. jessica says she heard at least six gunshots. >> it was so close it was scary 'cause we didn't know who was shooting, what they were shooting at 'cause it was like a pau. it almost sounded like a shotgun and then another pau like a shotgun followed by a handgun. >> reporter: police found a man and woman dead from gunshot wounds. police found a saturn parked 100 yards from the scene but investigators can't confirm if it's the same car jessica saw on the side of the road earlier that evening. >> that vehicle was towed, it was in the

know a suspect accused of engaging in illicit sexual contact with a minor at arlington national cemetery has turned himself in. the incident happened on memorial day during the wreath laying ceremony. the man repeterlily tupped a girl in an inappropriate manner. officials say the suspect of course has indeed turned himself in. meantime low income residents in the district of columbia can now get free security cameras if they qualify. >> the mayor made the announcement in a press conference today. fox5's alexandria limon has more details on this. >> reporter: the mayor's office and the police department say they want to make the streets of d.c. safer and one way they're doing that is by expanding the city's security program. under the new program, the city will provide vouchers for free security cameras to low income residents who qualify because they receive public assistance. the cameras will also be available to seniors, alycia rucker got a camera installed on her northeast d.c

>> i'm a single parent and i have young people and i feel saver i wanted to do my part to support the city. >> reporter: this voucher program expands the previous city program that provides rebates to d.c. cents who purchase cameras on their own. there have been 2200 rebates approved for 5500 cameras across the city according to the mayor's office. in exchange for helping residents pay for the security cameras, d.c. police has access to the footage in the event of a break in or other crime which in fact has helped authorities solve crimes in the past. >> in february of this year, following a shooting outside of a restaurant, we were able to locate three security cameras in the neighborhood. those security cameras assisted in showing us where the suspect fled. >> so, this program demonstrates that when we work together, police and community, we will keep our neighborhood safer. >> reporter: for complete list of who qualifies for the free cameras you can head to

to add environmentally friendly businesses to their 200 acres of farmland. there's already a state law in virginia allowing farmers to add tr extra income. >> fox5's tom fitzgerald live at the fairfax county government center. tom you were at that farm today. what did you see? >> reporter: well, you know, a familiar story, jim. you know, one time farms were everywhere in northern have a hvirginia but in the name of progress they have become a rarer and rarer thing in northern virginia. now, nadine and vasquez have have owned the farm. they've been trying to keep their head above water and they thought they got a bit of a lifeline when a rope adventure company one of these companies that set up apparatus in the trees and let pele

came to them and offered to use some of their land to set up one of these businesses. nadine and jeff thought it was god send. when they came to fairfax county to ask about it they were told you couldn't do this. in fact jeff and nadine despite virginia having a law allowing farms to have other business to bring in income were told they would have to have a special permit that would cost anywhere from 17 to $100,000. >> it doesn't make any stones me. i -- i would hope at some point we can come to some resolution. hopefully the board will vote in our favor and that will be the end of it. we can't afford to get a special permit to bring the ropes course here and i don't think we can keep doing this without more revenue. >> reporter: so, take a look at this. this is whitehall farm in fairfax. they've got chickens, they've got pigs cows

they've tried to do other things to bring in extra income like set up a brand new farmers market which not only sells their own produce, their own meats but also some locally produced gourmet items from throughout virginia but it's not enough. fairfax county, they say, is standing in the way of potentially what could be a $4 million revenue influx over 10 years. jeff and nadine say they just don't understand this. they hear so many politicians environmentalists talk about the importance of farm top table and sustaining farms in our society but yet here they are now faced with a very big deal they cannot afford. nadine says she's afraid if farms like white farms go under other generations might not know their history. >> i would like it to be a step into what a farm looks like because a lot o

fiddle garcia. the bounty hunters located him at the dealership. after waiting several hours they finally made their move. >> he got. [gunfire] >> just horrific video here. the three men got into a scuffle. as hutchinson tried to pick unhis weapon. both bounty hunters returned fire. all three suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. >> now to a big bust in san diego, california. the feds have arrested a group of mexican gang members accused of stealing jeep wranglers worth a total of $4 million and it was a pretty high tech scheme too. >> this is surveillance video of one of those thefts back from 2014. prosecutors say the thieves would pick a target a day in advance then go get the car's vehicle identification number then use a database maintained by the manufacturer to match the pattern of the physical key as well as the secret code used to axles the chip inside the key. then they would go to a dealership get a duplicate made, the

jeeps to tijuana mexico where they were stripped or sold for parts. three arrests have been made. six suspects are still out there. >> and an update to a story you heard first here on fox5. a woman who stole a $15,000 fur coat from the mgm casino pleaded guilty. rosa alvarez was caught on sureillance cameras outside the coat check at the casino. that video was given police. officers were able to identify her because she works in the prince george's county administration building. she will be on probation for a year after today's sentencing. >> all right. we take it outside live look at the capitol for you. gorgeous day out there. had a chance to get out by the pool just for a little bit before we came in today and sue, are we going to keep this going. >> oh, yes, i think we are, jim and sarah. we have new and improved forecasts ahead for you. we're not completely free of rain as we get through this weekend but we certainly think the next couple of days are looking pretty good and isn't it nice, i just had to start with radar, to show you

it's great. a few puffy clouds out there as you just saw as we look live at the capitol. this is a visible satellite picture. it's a weak area of high pressure but it will remain in control not only the rest of today but but it looks like tomorrow. there could be a slight weak front to our north that could trigger a couple spotty showers across the mason-dixon line. it's nice and warm and what you notice is it's very dry, too. the air is -- the dewpoints are in the 40's and 50's. 50's. time of year. a little bit breezy as well but that wind direction helped to pop our temperature up at reagan national. so far we've been as warm as 84 degrees, down to 82 now. a few spots in the upper 70's to low 80's. delightful evening. i mention those dewpoints. we see this so rarely here in the summertime months and by the way, june 1st is the beginning of meteorological summer. june, july and

>> ♪ >> this is fox5 local news at 5:00. >> other top stories right now. investigators in ridge trying --prince george's county trying to find out what sparked this fire. flames were shooting through the roof. this happened in a nonhydrant area so crews had to shuttle in water to battle the flames. no one was home. no one was injured. >> in the district, police need your help to track down two burglary suspects. surveillance video showing the suspects breaking into the store prying open the atm and stealing money. this happened just before 5:00 in the morning back on may 12th at a store in the 400 block of massachusetts avenue northwest. if you have any information please call police. >> in virginia detectives from both prince william and manassas park

he -- paris agreement. but he left room top renegotiate a deal. >> ronica cleary live on the white house with reaction from those who say it's a bad idea. hi, ronica. >> reporter: i just want to give you some insight into the accord. let me tell you people expected that we might leave this paris climate accord no matter who won if it was a republican. let me explain why. first thing, the paris climate accord was really a handshake -- i don't know what they're booing but they're obviously upset about something, what i mean by a handshake it was essentially a gentleman's agreement. basically there was no treaty so there wasn't legal ramifications to leaving. next thing, voluntary reduction amounts. what this means is that the countries decided voluntarily how much they would reduce carbon

entered the accord. the next. consequences. were there consequences if you didn't meet those voluntary reduction amounts. the expression name and shamed meaning they would name you embarrass you but no real consequences if you will. other countries big point of conversation inside the rose garden the president's remarks pointing to other countries saying that it wasn't -- they weren't participating with their fair share, if you will. many have asked will china, will india continue to participate. now reports seem to indicate that they will continue. but to just give you one idea of what that means, well, they set their own levels and said that they wouldn't need to meet them until 2030. whereas the united states would have to meet their reductions by 2025 and finally what's next? well, the president said that zero still has a commitment to environmental issues, that he is willing to renegotiate the deal or perhaps try

new deal. we will certainly have to see what that really entails but for now, let's take you to the pulse of the people, check in with some people here. obviously they're opposed to this decision but let me ask you this, were you surprised by today's announcement. >> not surprised but very disappointed. >> reporter: how about the idea that the president said that he's willing to renegotiate, did that come at you as a surprise. >> i don't think you a surprised by that. i think his whole idea is that he's always like a negotiator and wants to change things but i don't think he really understands what he's negotiating in the first place so it's kind of an irrelevant. >> reporter: i have another getleman back here. we might have to walk through the crowd just a bit but he actually told me interned at the epa while he was in college. you said you weren't really surprised but what do you take about the next steps of renegotiating possible a still a commitment to the environment. did that surprise you. >> it surprised me but i didn't think it was very much reality but it appeared like he said it sort of off the cuff and that wasn't really his goal. his

you remember on tuesday that we were watching a tornado that -- or apparent tornado on radar. turns out that the national weather service did confirm it was a weak ef-0 on a scale of zero to five. weak tornado that touched down in berryville on tuesday. it only was on the ground for a couple of minutes but it was about 25 yards long. it jumped around a little bit in the hilly terrain. .4 of a mile wide. fortunately no injuries. a lot of damage from falling trees but they had some warning that tornado warning went up. beautiful evening ahead. what about the weekend? we've made that some tweaks. i'll show them to you next and we'll also talk about what you can expect as hurricane season 2017 gets under way today. we'll be right back. >> ♪ >> ♪♪

>> ♪ >> new tonight metro transit police are still trying to track down the suspects in a brutal attack. this happened at the waterfront station back on april 29th. >> a woman says a group of people knocked her down and kicked her in the face. let's get back to marina marraco live in southwest with the latest. what's going on. >> reporter: yeah, quite the video if you look at the assault and this happend on memorial day roughly just past midnight at monday but you'll see metro transit police are on the scene they've been watching over the station for several days now in an attempt to find the assailants and if you look at the video you'll see these i believe now suspects, persons of interest seem relatively young. as they approach that couple walking up towards the escalators and then one of them assaults the woman. she lands on the ground. eventually she gets back up and other

them up and tell them to continue to proceed up the escalator to not insight a fight. now, this is just one of a myriad of assaults that have happened on metro, the most recent one we actually spoke to the victim earlier in may, he says that he was just sucker punched by a group of teenagers. that happened over on the red line at gallery place. there was an arrest roughly 24 hours following the assault but this one now several days following the assault that happened on monday, still no arrests and now metro police releasing that video in hopes that someone will recognize those teens and it will eventually would lead tow an arrest. live tonight in southwest, marina marraco fox5 local ne news. >> ♪ >> this just into the news room. police say they have now identified this little girl who we told you about earlier in the show. she was found alone [inaudible] police have not released additional details right now

once we get them but again, she has been identified. >> all right its, moving on to it night teen driving is a major problem in terms of unsafe driving practices but there's a new study from the aaa foundation that reveals new drivers between 16 and 17 years old are three times as likely a as adults to be involved in a deadly crash. the average number of deadly teen driver crashes increases by 15 percent compared to the rest of the year. during this period over the past five years more than 1600 people were killed in crashes. >> well, you know we see them all throughout the school year with their fluorescent colored sash type belts. school safety patrols play an important role in keeping students safe throughout our area. today 14 outstanding safety patrols were honored by aaa. madison walker were you one of the officers who won the national safe

sky without whirling thunderstorms producing gusty winds and hail as we have but you know what, today begins day one of a new season. it's the longest season we go through, it is the hurricane season. it begins june 1st until november 30. sometimes we get tropical activity outside of that window but noaa is predicting an above average season this year. they believe there will be 11 to 17 tropical storms, arlene and brett are the first two named storms. of those 11 to 17, they believe five to nine will become hurricanes and of those five to 92 to four become major hurricanes which is category three or higher. now, that doesn't say anything about landfall. they don't go there with that prediction. but it does look like it's going to be a busy season. so, when do things start heating up when it comes to hurricane season? it's not necessarily in june and not usually in july although we have certainly seen activity but it spikes big time in august and september and then we see it starting to drop as we get into

september 11th is actually the peek of hurricane season and let's hope we can keep them away from the east coast this year. they don't predict landfall as mentioned but just the frequency in which we may be seeing that. if you're head owed down to -- head owed down to the beach, ocean -- head owed down to the beach, ocean city not terrific. you'll have a mixture of clouds with some sun on saturday a temperature of 74. on sunday most of the day not bad but i think it's going to be more clouds again than sun and maybe a late thunderstorm at ocean city. temperature on sunday 73. 74 on saturday. water temperature still wet suit worthy at 64. at least for me anyway. that's awfully cool. nothing showing up on radar tonight. how delightful to see that. down to the south clouds continue to stay suppressed thanks to weak high pressure that's building in and will be around tomorrow. these are not the high temperatures today. we probably got up to about 84 or 85 and we're still at 82 degrees. so, a w

average day most places, upper 70's to low 80's remain and it will be a beautiful evening. we are surrounded by warm air to the south and west so another warm day on tap tomorrow. winds will come in out of the west. you can see saint louis 83 degrees so we're going to see temperatures right back i think toward the low 80's. here's what changed to get the thunderstorms out of here. we had a front with drier air late last night and today has been terrific. friday also looks nice with temperatures in the 80's. a bit of a breeze again tomorrow. and there is a little trigger up through pennsylvania. i don't think we're going to see it but it's possible that there could be one or two little showers very isolated to the northern areas mainly along the mason-dixon line or north central maryland but again, most people won't see it. last look here, how about that weekend? if we see anything at all for the weekend, it would be late on saturday. showers and storms more likely on sunday so the weekend really looking pretty good and in fact, i real should take that thunderstorm off of saturday. i did on the seven-day

vehicle in the hotel's garage. matt ackland is live with the latest. >> reporter: i've really never seen anything like this. just moments ago, the judge said that he needed more time. it's basically the first appearance hearing. what's strange about this, it was supposed to be held in federal court but it's here in superior court so the superior court judge a trying to determine if he can keep mr. moles overnight until a hearing tomorrow in federal court or should he release him. he basically said i need to go back and lock look at this. we'll see this case a little while before court ends today. some new developments we want to tell you about. we're hearing more from officials about how they learned about this. two voicemails apparently those voicemails were from, bryan moles and i want to look down and tell you about this. one, the first voicemail said that he wanted to stay in d.c. until he will met president
