it happened late last night along 18th street just south of columbia road. this morning, two suspects connected to the case are in custody. the officers and another person hit are still recovering and right now, a motive is still out there. they're trying to find a motive still anyone's guess why this happened police can't rule out terror at this point. >> we have live team coverage. bob barnard is live at the hospital where those officers are being treated. but we want to begin with melanie alnwick live on the scene in adams morgan. melanie, police have now ided the suspects. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. those suspects they are 22 and 23 years old both from the suburbs of richmond, virginia. and based on the charges dc police do not believe that this was an accident. little bit more about those charges. brandon mormon the driver, 22 years old, charged with assault with intent to kill and unlawful possession of a firearm. 23-year-old dwayne nicholas taylor

of an unregister firearm that comes from the weapon that was found inside that pickup truck. several fbi agents were at the scene on 18th street late thursday night. now if asked if terrorism was mow testify the police chief newsham says that still needs to be look at very closely. that truck sped down 18th street in ad add morgan and plod into two d.c. bike officers an city traffic control aid 9:00 p.m. on thursday very busy time for bars and restaurants in adams morgan and witnesses tell us it all happened very quickly. >> from what it heard it's like a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and then people honking and stuff and then after that, from what i heard, the white truck actually decided to sped around the vehicle and then -- along its way it hit like two biking police officers. >> reporter:

corroborate that account to me. you're also seeing here video of one of the suspects being led away from that crashed pickup truck. 1mpd bike was still attach to the pickup truck when it crashed blocks away. witnesses also told us that they saw the passenger jump out of the pickup truck. saying that the driver all of a sudden went crazy. he didn't know what was wrong with him. little bit more information here also. we have from two sources that they believe that drugs were also involved here. perhaps when they were -- when the suspects were rush to the hospital there was some conversation that perhaps they had been smoking something. but based on the charging documents, that is not part of the charges at this point. of course, we have a full team of reporters digging into this. we are sure when those charging documents come out we'll have more information for you. so we'll stay on top of this all day here on fox5 news. live in adams morgan, melanie alnwick, back to you. >> mel, thank you very much. bob barnard continues our coverage now live

hospital where those officers were taken for treatment. bob? >> reporter: allison, we are at washington hospital center here in washington, and the latest condition update we have is from the dc police chief peter newsham himself. this morning reported that one of the officers is in critical but stable condition. the other one in fair condition. last night it was extremely critical. so it appose that their conditions are improving. we don't know the extent of their injuries, but they are both being treated here. no identities yet on either of those officers who were bike patrol officers. injured at the same time as that ddot traffic control agent. in adams morgan along 18th street in front of all the bars and restaurants for traffic control purposes. that city employee, the dee dot employee, also not identified yet this morning. his injuries we're told are said also to be non-life threatening. so we're waiting the names and more s

in adams morgan late last night building 18th street south of columbia rode this morning two suspects connected to the case are in custody. officers and another person hit are still recovering. right now, we do know the identity of the suspects. but a motive is still anyone's guess. >> that's right. melanie alnwick is live on the scene with the very latest. mel? >> reporter: good morning, guys. some 12 hours after that d.c. police still here on the scene just little bit of cleanup left to do here in adam morgan. about those suspects they are 22 and 23 years old from the suburbs of richmond, virginia, and based on the charges, it does not appear dc police believe this is an accident. we have the driver 22-year-old brandon mormon charged with assault with intent to kill unlawful possession of a firearm. passenger 23-year-old dane nicholas taylor charged with possession of unregistered firearm. gun was found inside that pickup truck last night.

18th street later in the evening people questioning whether terrorism perhaps was a motive here but that still is under investigation. dc police chief peter newsham said that would have to be look at very closely. it was about 9:00 o'clock when that white pickup truck sped down 18th street in adams morgan plowing into 2 dc police bike officers and a d.c. government traffic control aid. it's very busy here in adams morgan for the bars and restaurants here one witness told us that the truck ws frustrated. it was stopped behind a metro bus. decided to swerve around it and hat's when the officers were struck one bike still attached to that pickup truck dragged several blocks down the street until that pickup truck crashed in a dc dump truck recycling truck a few blocks down the way. also, we have cell phone video& that a lot of people captured and shared with fox5, and you're about to see what appears to be

the officers and another person hit are still recovering and right now we do know that the identity of the suspects but a motive is still anyone's guess. coverage on this story bob barnard at med star hospital where the victims are recovering. we'll start with melanie alnwick because she's live on the scene with the latest this morning. mel? >> reporter: good morning, guys. we learned a little while ago the suspects are 22 and 23 years old. they are from the suburbs of richmond, virginia, and based on the charges that they are being held on at this point, dc police are saying that this was an intentional act. 22-year-old brandon mormon, he's charged with assault with intent to kill. and unlaw if full possession of a firearm. the passenger 23-year-old dwayne nicholas taylor also charged and held right now with possession of unregistered firearm. witnesses saw them cut around a stopped metro bus on 18th street in adams morgan and strike the bike officers and a

it's believed the dodge ram pick up crashed with the bike -- one of the bikes on it self blocks before it hit a dump truck. now, one gun was found in that crashed pickup truck and that is the reason for the firearms charges there. several fbi agents were on the scene late thursday night. now given the facts and recent world events a lot of people were wondering looking at this scene that we have seen played out many times before could this be terrorism? that is something that investigators are not able or willing to answer at this point. that is still being inves investigated. one other thing we want to talk about we have a couple of different sources back out live here who said that they were aware that there may have been drugs involved in this. suspects may have been high on something or smoking something. but so far that is not included in the charges. but i just tried to work that out through some sources and what they tell

they're being held on these initial charges right now. but the toxicology is still pending and the investigation is still pending. so more charges of course could follow. fox5 reporters are going to stay on top of this all day long for you. right now we want to go to my colleague bob barnard who is at washington hospital center where the officers were taken. >> reporter: melanie, good morning. latest information we have is that both officers are still here recovering from their injuries. one of them according to peter newsham the mpd police chief is that one is critical but stable. the other is in fair condition. we believe the officer who was more critically hurt last night was actually dragged after the initial contact with the pickup truck, because his police bicycle was found still attached to that pickup truck when it came to stop a few blocks away. we don't believe he was dragged that entire distance, but just a short bit. the he the more serious of the two officers who were injured. no names yet

♪ all right. back now here at 10:30. we are still followng breaking news 2dc police officers hurt after a hit-and-run in adams morgan. it happen late last night along 18th street just south of columbia road and this morning two suspects connected to the case are in police custody. they have identified as 222 year old brandon mormon and 23-year-old dwayne taylor. police say both are from the suburbs of richmond, virginia. the driver mormon is charged with assault with the intent to kill and unlawful possession of a firearm. taylor is charged with possession of unregistered firearm. dc police say they haven't rule out terrorism as a motive. fbi is now involved too. meanwhile, we're going to med star hospital where we find our bob barnard joining us from washington hospital center. bob, good morning. >> reporter: allison g morning to you guys. the latest we have is that the conditions of the two officers apparently aremp

tweeting this morning that one of the officers remains in critical but stable condition. the other is in fair condition at this point. now, video tape from the scene shows that one of the bicycle officers bicycles was still attached to the pickup truck. the striking vehicle a few blocks it way from the impact scene. we believe the more seriously injured of the two officers was actually dragged for bit. that's his bicycle still attached to the pickup truck. the other officer again in fair condition the third person struck was ddot traffic control officer there on 18th street and adams morgan in front of tryst and the diner there. helping to keep traffic flowing on a thursday night around 9:00 o'clock. that d to the employee we're told has knot non-life threatening injuries as well the extent of the nature of all the injuries we're not sure at this point. not one of them has been identified yet this morning

a lot of teams call it men's women's rowing or crew but the action is rowing. do you do crew. >> we row. >> we're honoring the men's and women's teams here today. >> how did the teams do this year. >> we did pretty well actually the women we placed third in our conference the best we've done in the last five years. the best i've done since i've been here this is my sixth year. our light weight women finish sixth at the national championships last weekend. and the men's teams i think overall had very successful year. heavyweight men beat navy for the first time since the '70's i think it was. very strong year for them. the light weight crew also had some very strong results. put together really strong performance at the national championship this past weekend. >> every time i see any of you out on the water right behind us out rowing on the potomac i admire what looks to be such an athletic feat. >> i know. it looks incredibly hard. tell me what season like when it comes to training, preseason and
