requirements. first on fox5 the letter they sent to the governor 's office and the response from annapolis. and a hot one for father's day, but what does your workweek have in store. thanks so much for joining us, i'm lauren demarco and i'm mp marina maracco. a december take iting discovery on father's day. fairfax county police have said they found a boding in sterling and they believe it may be that of a missing 17 year old. a call came in overnight about that missing girl. fox5's kristin leone is here with the latest on the investigation. >>reporter: still a lot of un answersed questions this n this investigation, but we're told by close family and friends that her name is nabra and she was attending a prayer service at her mosque overnight. investigators do tell us that they have found a body in this general vicinity where we're standing, not too far away

it was about ten minutes away from where she was last seen. as of right now as they haven't confirmed whether it's nab raised tonight or not. >> it's been an emotional day for this muslim community. what was supposed to be a comemtive time during rom done has turned to mourning for one of her own. she very good girl, she don't de serve this. her hear the breaks for nabra's family. she come to the community center with the kids. she's very nice around four this morning, fairfax county police they got a call about a missing 17 year old girl who was last seen walking with her friends off drainsville road. we were told she was with several other teens at the time that's when investigators say they all got into an altercation with a man who was driving. for some reason the man got out of the vehicle and he assaulted one of

told fox5 they've been searching all day for her, but around three this afternoon they say they found a body in a pond about ten minutes away from where she was walking. >> i can't think of a worse instance, a loss of a 17 year old on father's day. mar teens torres has since been arrested in connection with the case. until they release the cause of death holds at the center hold each other tight and continue to pray for nabra and her family. just a horrible tragedy here. again, right now we don't know if nabra knew her attacker or not or if she and her frens were targetedded in this case. police told us they haven't ruled out a hate or bias crime here. we'll let you know once we find out the identity and also if we learn more on this in

in sterling tonight, kristin leone, fox5 local news. >> we are following breaking news in london where police say a vehicle hit a group of pedestrians. it happened at 126789. twenty in the morning there. police say there are a number of casualties. one person p is under arrest. the muslim council says the pedestrians were worshipers leaving a nearby mosque. sky news spoke over the phone with a woman who lives in the area. i saw so many, many people shouting very nervously taking over the road. there's usually a lot of people in here, but never like that so i understood something bad had happened. again, one person has been ar rested and we will continue to monitor the story and bring you up dates as they become available into the news room. here in d.c. police need your help to find a teen who has been missing since friday. fdd

jerome was last seen on street. police are asking anyone who may know of jerome's wear abouts to give them a call. out of prince george's county, several school board members are calling for a state investigation into what they say is widespread corruption in the school district. they claim fraudulent measures are being taken to boost high school graduation rates and push students through the system. fox5 a's lindsay watts has been working on this and it is a story that you will only see on fox5. >>reporter: we obtained this letter that four board members sent to governor larry hogan. it makes some extremely seriously claims saying students ' grades and credit accounts are being manipulated to fraudlily boost the graduation rate in prince george's county. they have clear and convincing evidence that

students who did not meet state requirements. the letter is signed by edward bureaus disaifd \heel\heally and student member gentleman want blocker. they told the gorchor say they believe it goes since the highest level of the school system and it has been happening since 2014 soon after. q. maxwell has made it ceo of schools. maxwell had made it a top priority to boost the high school rate. it looked like a success story with record numbers announced earlier this year. we reached out to larry hogan's office and a spokesperson tells us this. i can confirm that the governor's office are in receipt of this letter. they are very forward ing and they have been forwarded to the maryland state department of education. fox5 has spoken to numerous school employees about this issue. they say there's intense pressure to increase the graduation wait from

office onto principles onto staff. the staff knows exactly what's happening. so it's widespread. i have a student who failed the class and they were like well you need to go ahead and make sure she gets a d because she's been there every day. i think we're doing an injustice to the student, allow ing them to graduate when they know they didn't put in the effort and so what are we teach ing them. we're not teach ing them consequences to their actions. we reached out to prince george's county schools on friday and just within the last hour we got this statement from dr. maxwell. it says in party many aware that four board of education members september a politically motivated letter to the governor regarding prince george's county graduation rate. these claims are an affront to the heart work of our teachers, administrators, students and parents over the last few years. i cat gorily deny any

suffering major damage. the damage is mostly underneath the water line and it's a large gash and near the kill of the ship. the damage to the fitzgerald starboard or right side is extensive. most of the ships 300 crew members were sleeping at the time of the early morning cash. two apartments were seriously affected as well as a machinery roovment there was an significant impact that the crew had to fight very hard to keep the ship afloat. damage also evident on the the acx crystal, the other vessel involved in the incident. the container ship is four times the size of the fitzgerald. conditions were clear at the time of the collision and the cause is under investigation. the ship is salvageable. it's extensive, though. it will require some significant repairs, but you will see the ss fitzgerald back as one of our war ships here. but it w
