this is what we shot of the funeral. there were so many people who showed up for the funeral. some had to stand outside, hundreds maybe over 1,000 people were there. many prayed before the hearse left the mosque. now i want you to take a look at the video. you can see the funeral. we're told that some traveled from all over, even coming from as far away as north carolina. some of the mourners complete strangers coming today to comfort the family. >> we came here offering prepare for >> it's a sad thing to have somebody so young, you know, at a time during a holly month of ramadan, you know, trying her best, you know, the happiness of, you know, just having her last meal before starting the fast of the next day

poster board. dc firefighters put the fire out but police don't believe the destruction was connected to the memorial from the night before. . a week into the investigation, the fbi says last wednesday's shooting at the republican congressional baseball practice in alexandria was not an act of terror. agents say james hodgkinson had the names of six members of congress on a piece of paper but they never confirmed exactly which congressman or senators were named, or called it a hit list. hodgkinson apparently had anger management issues but wasn't mentally ill. he fired off more than 60 rounds from a rifle an .9 mm before being caught by police. we've asked the fbi what they learned and whether that could help prevent another attack. >> we're always vigilant with pro actively looking for these incidents through all types of investigative techniques. we do the best we can every day to prote

live here. and we'll continue to do that. hodgkinson was 66 years old from southern illinois, apparently had 200 rounds of ammunition in a storage locker in virginia. the attack last week wounded four people. meanwhile, house majority whip steve scalise remains in the hospital. congressman she's has been upgraded from serious to fair. the congressman was shot in the left hip wednesday and beginning an extended period of healing and rehab. tonight, democrats, they're in disarray. last night, they lost a special election for a house seat in georgia and democrats lost house races in monday tan in, cancer and south carolina. democrats hoped to sail in a house majority in the anti-trump resistant. 16 months

tom fitzgerald live at the democratic national headquarters with more on this. >> sarah, one democrat told us tonight there was a mixture both disappointment and concern, concern about the very future of the democratic party, and here's why. in this year in these special elections, the democrats are 0 and four, they haven't one won of these so far and the reason that is concerning was ally optimism democrats had. a window of opportunity that many are concerned is now closing, under the leadership of chairman tom per ris, they have not been able to turn any republican seats democratic. both sides on the democratic and republican side seemed to agree one thing and it was this. that the democrats need to craft a message. need to build a leader and most importantly, they need to funnel the resistance museum into a victory at the ballot box. >> we need to focus on local issue,

the u.s. says it regrets russia's decision to cancel an upcoming meeting to discuss obstacles in the relationship. this comes after the u.s. an

sanctions against russia stemming from their activities in the ukraine. the u.s. state department spokes woman says the u.s. remains open to discussions. but the sanctions will remain in place until russia honors its agreements. much of the western part of the u.s. is baking under an oppressive heat wave. >> las vegas tied 117 degrees. >> flights continue to be cancelled. las vegas and phoenix with the temperatures too hot for plane, obviously the warning is stay out of the heat. >> really important especially how hot it is here in arizona that people continue to drink water and stay hydrated and the pool, you know, you feel cool, your body feels cool. you don't realize you're losing important fluids you need for hydration. in california where the heat wave is helping to fuel a series of wildfires throughout the state as well. gulf

tropical storm, tropical storm cindy is hovering in the gulf of new mexico. heavy potentially flooding rain, more from louisiana. >> reporter: tropical storm cindy is still hovering in the gulf of mexico, but they're already feeling effects in in louisiana and all along the gulf coast, it's turning up tides and dropping huge amounts of rain through the region, already causing some flooding in coastal areas >> we can just keep praying, keep working for the community, and keep doing the best we can. >> governments are gearing up for what the national weather service says could be deadly flash flooding and states of emergency have already been declared in alabama and louisiana with officials warning residents not to take the threat lightly. >> we expect to have localized flooding throughout the city, so i want to ask the public and our citizens to stay alert and to be prepared >> the national guard is now

we've had nice weather past couple days, it will continue again tomorrow, but all eyes on tropical storm, which has yet to make land full. positioned just southeastern texas, south western louisiana, but like the reporter said, already waves of rain unindated the gulf coast and we'll see up to a foot before the remnants of cindy finally move northeast ward. the projected path, land fall some time late tonight as a tropical storm and then tropical depression, post tropical cyclone, notice the northeastern turn to go right acrosses the tennessee valley and by that early saturday right into the midatlantic on our doorstep. the spaghetti models -- this storm could have con virtued on one pretty specific solution crossing 95 over washington baltimore and moving off the coast of long island into november scotia. that means rain for us and heavy rain that would be during friday afternoon, friday evening into saturday

. fox 5 local news at 5:00. we begin in prince george's county. where a woman is recovering tonight after being hit by a truck. police say it happened just before 4:00 this morning at the intersection of wood yard road and richardson road in clinton. the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. the truck was towed away. in montgomery county investigators are trying to figure out what started a townhouse fire. skyfox over the scene this morning. it was in the middle of a row of townhomes along autism hill way in gaithersburg. took about 80 firefighters to battle the fire. several people were evacuated. no one hurt. a wood bridge man arraigned on murder charges today. jones is charged in the shooting death of a donis wright. shot last friday on south lower street i

investigators say the two menu each other and got into an argument before the shooting. dc mayor bowser will be up for reelection in 2018 and the polls show she has a strong approval rate >> but still concern amongst district residents about specific areas of job performance, ronica cleariry taking a closer look on this one tonight. >> reporter: a recent "washington post" poll found that 67% approved of mayor bowser's performance with 19% disapproving. this is good news. in 2015, a poll found she had only 58% approval with 25% is disapproval. if you take a deeper look at the numbers when the poll asked about specific issue, there are areas of concern by the residents. take a look at this. when it comes to how the mayor is handling

62% say she's doing not so good or poor. the next one, the idea of how much donors influence politics or dc government, 48% said not so good or poor. with 31% saying excellent or good. now, i had the chance earlier today to ask the mayor about these specific numbers. take a listen. >> reporter: we're very encouraged. any time you have two out of three people saying that they approve of your job, that's something to be proud of. but shows we have work to do. our focus on affordable housing has been the most we've had in the history of our city and we're going to continue to stay focused on it. since i've been in public service for ten years and we're focused how to make it more trans monitors and accountable to the people. we'll continue to stay focused. >> reporter: hear directly from you. we took to the streets to ask you, do you approve or disprove of mayor bowser's job performance? take

same time poll looked at a three-way match-up with mayor bowser, former mayor and councilman vincent gray and carl racine, now, in that match-up. mayor bowser got 50%. but a lot could happen before election day, we'll keep you updated. reporting live, ronica cleary fox 5 local news >> 2018 is a long way off. the american civil liberty union filed a lawsuit. making unconstitutional arrests using a excessive force and denying arrested people food and water. this is all over those demonstrations we saw on inauguration day, most of them were peaceful but a small group caused property damage. officers used a controversial crowd control tactic known as kettling. >> these repeated examples of unlawful police conduct that the dc council to enact the first amendment assemblies act.

of pepper spray and mass detention or kettling. and requires clear disburse al orders so the demonstrators have the opportunity to retreat to safety. metro police did put out a statement saying all instances of officers using force and allegations of misconduct will be fully investigated. meantime, the man arrested with guns and ammo at dc's trump hotel last month is set to be arraigned tomorrow. brian moles will go before a judge. the pennsylvania doctor was arrested in may after authorities found an assault style rockville, a handgun and ammo in his vehicle in the hotel's garage. he was dieted on charges of unlawful possession and transportation of a firearm police investigating a deadly shooting in the district. police say a woman was shot and killed after midnight. it happened in the 700 block of 51 it's street northeast. right next to the house of praise church. the victim's mother tells us that her daughter attended church there last night. she did not want to appear on camera but here's what

south, maryland you might have seen brief downpours, enough instability out there to create thunder showers but largely outside the washington area, live look at the capitol dome shining bright and white, we got the sun shining, you can see a lot of blue sky in the background, clear skies or at least mainly clear skies expected and we'll have a lot of sunshine again for tomorrow, thursday, weather headlines we'll begin with that, mild we'll see temperatures fall back in just the 60's upper 60's low 70's here in the city. it's going to feel hot tomorrow. we got low 90's on tap for high temperatures, and more humidity. it hasn't been that humid with due points running in the 50's, tomorrow will be different. showers and thunderstorms back in the forecast as early as midday friday. really, maybe even showers earlier friday morning as the timing is sped up on enhanced rainfall thanks to an incoming cold front and tropical storm cindy, it won't be a tropical storm by the time the remnants reach up but equals a lot of rain. tomorrow we have an air quality alert been issued for washington baltor

to the thick area, heat and humidity, the air will be unhealthy for sensitive groups, if you'rey in one of those groups, limit the activities. tropical storm cindy yet to make land fall but the rain bands are already bringing heavy rain to portions of extreme southeastern handle of florida.uisiana, pan - the red box is a tornado watch. a lot of the time you get tornados during land falling tropical systems due to large scale rotation and you can see the rotation around the counter clockwise flow. look at that rain making it up to northern sections of the gulf coast states, where they will see a ton of rain up to nearly a foot in some spots by the time this moves out. showers and thunderstorms moving across southeastern pennsylvania. largely stay out of the washington area. we'll just be mostly cloudy to partly cloudy and pretty mild for tonight should be a beautiful summer evening, 86 in dc now, 87 in gaithersburg, lobby at that 90 in frederick, that's the warm spot. 89 in manassas, we'll all be into

towards the north, high pressure still guaranteeing a nice sunny day but more of that southerly flow pumping in. the day planner forecast for tomorrow will start to feel muggy by the morning hours, 76 with mostly sunny skies, we got 87 by noon, hot day, pool day, 92. heat index values in the mid to upper 90's. here's the setup friday through saturday. late tonight early tomorrow morning, cindy making land fall. weakening to a tropical depression, moving northeast ward. the good sources of moisture you can get a prolonged period of showers and thunderstorms, which what we'll get. maybe a break but saturday morning should also deliver pretty heavy rain. and like i said projected rainfall amounts on the order of six to 12 inches locally more across -- look at the train of moisture following the path those remnants through tennessee valley, kentucky, west virginia. locally this model saying maybe one to

routine procedures at a medical facility. lauren demarco is live tonight in largo maryland with the exclusive details. lauren? >> reporter: tony, shawn, this is frightening for these 23 people. who came here to the kaiser permanenta location, the largo medical facility in maryland. they had colonoscopies done in april. they have been contacted between yesterday and today, called by their doctors, let them know that a piece of equipment that was used during the colon oscopy was believed was not sterile or something went wrong in the sterilization process. they have they don't come back in for screening and the doctors mentioned risks such as hiv and hepatitis c. as you can see imagine, these people calling us really terrified. so we reached out to kaiser permanenta, we have updated information. they provided us a written statement which they describe that
