today is the first full day that president trump's travel ban is also in effect. the 90 day ban officially went into place last night. but it does allow people with a quote bonafide relationship with a person or entity in the u.s. the state department has added finances to the list of accepted relationships. meanwhile, the state of it hawaii is asking the supreme court to clarify the exact wording of quote close family relationships under the revised ban. all right. happening right now, in fairfax county, police are investigating an overnight homicide at very popular shopping center. >> in a bizarre twist police say the suspect in the case also tried to break into a store in that same plaza. melanie alnwick has been following this story all morning lon. joining us live now from springfield with the latest. mel. >> reporter: hey, good morning, guys. yeah, for several hours now, fairfax county police have been here on the front side of the springfield plaza shopping center, and we just saw them still inside. you can see right there an officer at the door of the pet value. this is

was. two scenes here spanning the front and the back of the shopping plaza. here at the pet value where you see the shopping cart and it looks like a pet bed and definitely shattered glass there on the sidewalk. this is where fairfax county police say a around 2:30 this morning the suspect in this case rammed into and then broke into the pet value store. they got a call basically that someone was trying to break in. they found the suspect inside the pet value what you're looking at now is the scene behind the shopping center and sort of a service alley service area between the back entrances of many shops including the back entrance of revolution darts and billiards that is where fairfax county police say both the suspect and the victim were last night and then sometime around 2:00 in the morning that is about closing time for the billiards place that is

they say that the suspect and the victim got into an altercation in that alley area. the victim that's when they got the first call around 2:00 o'clock in the morning. so just after closing for someone who been injured when they found the man there in that parking lot they said he was taken to the hospital and then that is where that person died. they didn't specify as far as the type of injury initially. we understood it was a call for a stabbing but then police walked that back just slightly only telling us that it was upper body trauma. we're waiting more information. no charges have been filed just yet but police do plan to do that later today. we can tell you that the suspect in this case is in the hospital, non-life threatening injuries we believe probably from the glass here behind me and he is in police custody. live in springfield i'm mel 93 alnwick fox5 local news. thank you. 9:09 is the time. >> holiday get

♪ welcome back. 9:24. it is time to check what else is making had he lines this mor morning. and first up, a tennis super star in trouble with the law. erin what's this about. >> police in florida say venus williams was at fall for ju june 9th car crash that led to the death of the passenger in the other vehicle. williams car darted into an intersection in palm beach gardens right near her residence. the other driver identified as linda bar son said she could not stop her car in time and hit williams car. now williams has not been cited or charged. the police report does say she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. here at home prince george's county executive rushern baker responding to the naacp's demands the school ceo's new contract be put on hold during the investigation. he says he's standing by prince george's county school ceo kevin maxwell despite an investigation looking into grade fixing and records manipulation in the school system he also says he doesn't believe grades were changed.

california they're being called in to fight a pair of growing wildfires. the flames are now threatening two of the nation's most exclusive neighborhoods in malibu and cal basses the fire in malibu burned 25 acres so far. incredible video of those flames right there. wildfires are also burning in washington state, new mexico, idaho, nevada as well as ari arizona. it's a night of bad news unfortunately for our nats. starting with tray turner. the break out short stop broke his wrist getting nailed by a 9n the seventh inning. right now there's no word on when he could return. it's a huge blow for our team unfortunately. he was leading the league in stolen bases. the nats also lost the game to the cubs after blowing the heat in the eighth inning and manager dusty baker was ejected after arguing a called strike. and finally, it seems more bosses are warming up to summer fridays. that means giving employees day off or letting them go home early. >> y

of our daughter gwyneth. after the events of that day, we set upon ourselves to create a law called gwyneth's gift in the state of virginia requires cpr for teachers, the placement of all aed' in all schools and training for high school graduates this school year. after we wrote that law we continued with the american heart association and helped to testify in d.c. and maryland where they have the student component of the law. and following that, we decided we wanted to be able to make sure that the teachers and the school especially in the rural areas had the support necessary to actually get the aed we created gwyneth's gift foundation last year. >> right. >> and under the foundation we have three programs. the first program is an overall awareness program. we offer free training to the public. we do that at one event a year and three smaller events throughout the year. we also have aed component where we actually help to pay for the aed's and dough employ them not only to schools but to other public locations. our third component

about his older years when he was an adult, and we like to talk about his formative years when george -- what made george the exceptional person he became, and we look at eight little differently than most historians. we use historical records but we also use archeological information. >> you helped to lead that charge as the vice-president from museum couldn't at the present time. i don't want to brag but i wanted to be an archaeologist when i was in seventh grade. >> it's not too late. >> say it again. tell me what you found on the archeological dig. >> we have over 750,000 artifacts to date. >> wow. >> a lot of them colonial but people were living on that landscape for 12,000 years. everybody somebody lives there they leave stuff behind and we collect it and learn about the past at ferry farm. >> 12,000 years. so can you tell us about, you know, the native peoples before that and just some of the little nuggets that you found? >> sure.

every five artifact facts we find is native american. and we have, um, project points arrowheads and all the tools that they use and we have gaming pieces so we can talk about sort of their social life as well. >> right. >> and so all those things are available through recovery and archeology. >> when people come out, what do they learn about george washington? >> um, so we learn that george washington his family went through a lot of adversity and when they lived at ferry farm, and sort of how his family overcame that adversity. >> like what? >> so for example, his father died when he was 13. and so, um, his family had to -- to sort of redesign their whole existence, his mother became a widow and so that's a social standing in 18th century life and because of inheritance,

>> all right. so was this your first state title win? >> no this is my first as head coach. um i also wouldn't assist at that particular time coach with my mom she was the head coach in 2015. >> i think she just said i've been there before. takes me through was a dramatic season? was it ever in question that you might not win or was it, you know, wire to wire you guys were always on top. >> starting from the beginning i have a bunch of young girls who came in. so from the beginning we did not expect it. but you can just continually see them grow each game, and it was a phenomenal win at the end very dramatic i can thank these girls enough. they're amazing athletes. they definitely deserved it. >> when you actually realized you were going to win washington did you do. >> i screamed. >> good. react. >> i was like oh, my gosh!? whoo!? we're state champs much that's awesome. keep the winning tradition a life. >> we will. we'll come back and visit again. >> thank you oy have another winner on this side and this is jake who happens to be the coach of wrestling team. now is this your

title. >> it is our first state title in school history. >> that's got do feel pretty. >> it feels great. >> they're making history here in to have forward. was it something you expected at what point did you know we might be able to do this. >> it was our goal from the s star. we went in the season looking to win. conference title, regional title. we kind of lost those early on and then revamped during the state time. came back together. rustled hard and wrestled awesome tournament. >> the moment you knew you were going to be state champions, what did you do. >> it didn't hit mow until we hit the parking lot and i look to my coach and we had that look, oh, my god -- >> you cried. it's okay. you can say it. >> i cried little bit. >> were you real men cry. so you know it's interesting though because so when you win your first title, right, how do you keep that going because now the next year the expectation is high, right. >> yes. we have to keep the expectation high and i expect that from our guys from the start from day one i expect them to give 100% all the time. we just h

being here. >> yeah. >> thank you for being here. so i was reading up on you. you have impressive background. went to west point. served in the army. i mean very impressive engineer, right. >> degree in engineering. >> yeah. >> how did you make that transition into the bachelorette reality television and then music? >> i think that's always the question how do you make the transition to bachelorette world. >> it's a transition. >> for anybody. i was kind of in the phase of my life, i was like why not? i was chasing some dromes. i had done a lot of different thing in the military like you mentioned and i was work in the corporate world for couple of years i got to point i had this music thing that was on the side and i've been doing it on the weekends had been wanting to do it since a a child. hey, i'm going to go back to nashville and work on my music. the bachelorette thing came up at the same time. i was like why not let's try this and see how it goes. >> was that spring board for if you your music sounds like me that's your little pasion. >> it really has helped in some ways so many more people that are exposed

who i am as person but we didn't even talk about it on the bachelorette. i was -- they talk about my story as a veteran more and not so much as musician and so that was my career if you will on the show. so it's been fun to kind of reintroduce myself to the world as the guy that has been song writer and artist and nashville for few years now. >> look, i love country music because it always tells a story. >> um-hmm. >> it draws from personal experiences, relationships, and so i'm sure you have a lot. plenty of material to work with, right. >> yeah, there's so much to work with. with everything i've been through. now people ask me, are you writing songs about your experience on the bachelorette. >> how real are we getting in your lyrics. >> i'm taking a page out of taylor swift's book and just write about the break up. >> ut-oh. >> you write about you being on the show today. i mean this is an experience. >> why not? >> absolutely. >> annie and maureen, paul. >> we didn't get quite as steamy as we saw you with

bachelorettes on there. how producers get involved in intimate moments. how real is that steam up? are they pushing to you get closer? or is that real. >> i think the first half of the season the filming process is kind of people know they're doing circus tricks and kind of just all there and it's, you know, petri dish social experiment towards the end, um, like the clip we showed at the beginning when you introduce them to your family i think people have to go through this transition mentally, okay, this is not just tv show any more. this is where i'm going to bring them for christmas next year or whatever. >> did you think you were falling in love. >> yeah, tour the end the last three or four of us that are left on the show, yeah, to you make that transition. this is serious. i really have real feelings it's not just tv show. >> were you heart broken? >> um, yeah, absolutely i was. >> really? >> it happens. it happens really quickly there at the end the last few weeks of filming are really, really strange emotion roller coaster to be on, but, yeah,. >> not for the jealous types, though.
