market loves that this man is president. isis is on the run. jobs are being produced. you don't hear any of that. two networks gave 0 coverage. >> the president tweeted that controversial message from his personal twitter account sunday. that was was crafted on somebody on redick. it was retreated from the potus account. cnn is saying he's promoting violence against reporters but the president stands firm on his stance >> it's not just cnn, there have been other journalists and news outlets that say the attack we seem to -- seems to come from the white house on the media, the discrediting the media it's been frustrating >> two observations. that cnn logo behind that was vince mcman head of wwe whose wife linda is the head of the small business administration and you're talking about fake news using wrestling which is fake >> and the whole thing was fake. the president called the use of his social media's modern presidential. political media reporter

gold is with us. >> we know the former president, president obama ushered in the current use of, or you i should say the start of social media age. but when we never quite saw anything like what we're seeing from the current president. >> no. this is -- it's definitely unique and while it would be one thing if the president really used twitter to tell everybody what he was thinking, especially when it comes to policy and what his plans were, it's something else when he's using it to demean reporters and other people, to advocate for getting physical with reporters or at least news outlets at large to speak as he did about tv show hosts like mika and joe scarborough. i think most people are for the president using social media. but they don't want to see distractions because whatever you feel is justified for him to hit back against the media. there are other things going on that most people would

want him to be focus the on. >> and i think the problem here is not so much maybe, you know, i looked at that tweet and didn't take it as anything other than just, you know, donald trump being donald trump at this point. i didn't see it as an outright threat. with that said, it is this distraction, because you're trying to designate infrastructure week and went have a healthcare week, but different theme week, this dominates the news cycle >> for better or worse >> if the media didn't cover what he was tweeting would we be criticized what he was saying? should we not cover what he's publishing on his own? clearly, we should take the president's words above probably his staff, communications, he himself has said that he is his best spokesperson. we will be covering what he says. it's a bit hypocritical to hear staffers say we're not covering important issues, we would love to but we need to be covering what the president of the united states is saying, >> i

the cameras and the micro waves and everything like that has been well documented >> take that way grain salt. what are we, the media to do? when we're in this position where we're attacked, there are things like this that are being tweeted out boy the president? are we supposed to ignore it >> i mean i do think sometimes the media gets a really hyped up and to look at things from all sides and from an empathetic point of view, the supporters of the president, who come from all different walks of life. and not to paint everybody way broad brush. i think that's been missing from the media coverage of this presidency, and this entire election. that being said, reporters just need to continue doing their jobs, and just continue reporting on the facts and and really be unafraid, and not to be cowed by anybody threatening them. >> what is worrisome is as we saw with congressman scalise that somebody can take political rhetoric andak

targeting immigrants. >> fox 5 kristen leone is live at the department of homeland security in the district with mr. on this march. kristen? >> reporter: good evening, jim and shawn, that's right. immigrants rights activists spoke out as well as families facing deportation and other local church leaders calling out the current administration and its stance towards immigration in particular, the family of morales speaking out an emotional plea from them. their father, germo was taken into ice custody three months ago, they say he's a good man and asking for his asylum. here's more on what they have to say >> my are father never demonstrated selfish actions, to the contrary, his actions have shown only honesty and courage to give a better life to my mother and brother and sisters. >> that was

you just heard from. told the crowd her father has no criminal history. and is essentially a fabric of the annapolis community creating chicken statues around that area. now, other local advocates in this case, again, they also spoke out today. they were the saying that they're rallying around other immigrants as well as morales who have been terrorized by our government and the message was loud and clear >> our nation's capitol has been infected with chickens. chickens who hide behind pens and paper. chickens who hide behind security. who hide behind fists. instead of getting out with the people. and hide behind toxic tweets. >> just to note as well, chickens was the theme today for the rally here.

that there were people in the federal building looking down, watching as this was unfolding in that area. now, advocates bottom line were saying that again, they're calling for change to the local administration. to the federal administration, that is, asking again, or just calling in this case, for immigration changes here, so that it will be easier for those to become citizens. we also spoke with ice officials who were telling us if someone does violate the federal immigration laws, they could, of course, face deportation, detame and be arrested in this case, as well, and regarding the situation at the restaurant in baltimore, they were also saying turning over the i9 documents, it will take three days or it should to turn those documents over when there's a notice out. live in northwest dc tonight, kristen leone, fox 5 local news. fireworks in the 4th of july go hand-in-hand. in virginia your

danger >> in the six states where they have done this the past five years they're not been a significant or notice he should increase in danger. there's been a lot of progress made in terms of fireworks safety over past decade. i'm looking for every possible way we can to create jobs in virginia. we've been stuck six straight years, the economic growth rate last year under governor northam was six 10ths, 31 out of 50 states, it's not one of the bigger things that creates job, it's not as big as my 10% across the board cuts which would create 53,000 private paying jobs but ache we can do that allows for us to have more job creation in the commonwealth, i'll take a careful look at. >> reporter: you tout the negative numbers in virginia. were you hear terry mcauliffe talk about virginia, he paints a totally different picture about the

>> let's talk a little bit about the fireworks. a lot of folks will be heading to the mall outside to watch them. but what are the weather forecast caitlin >> we getting thunderstorms in the forecast. unfortunately for tomorrow, it's a small chance but a chance nonetheless. your independence day forecast for tomorrow for the parade, you'll be fine. hazy sunshine kind of humid, of course, and hot all day long. but you should be dry until about mid afternoon. we have pop-up thunderstorms in the forecast. not everyone will see them. you might be stuck under a downpour but they're passing and they should fade away by time we hit sunset. so i believe for now, all fireworks should be a go. we'll be monitoring that closely tomorrow, anything that forms that will be an issue looks to be mostly off towards the west along the mountains, it will be a mostly cloudy humid night. 91 for tomorrow, 87 with scattered storms, the thunderstorm forecast higher wednesday thursday, into early friday. the weekend next weekend, looks nice, saturday and sunday. that's what's great

successful or not. people have been telling us they're going to be growing pains, we voted for the outsider, we have to give it time to learn the ropes >> are they forgiving or overlooking right now and saying what's dominating the headlines these tweets we get from the president both sides have head are beneath the dignity of the president? are they sort of excusing those? >> it's funny, i don't think -- ultimately, it's not going to guide whether or not they vote oh for trump again or retain the support. we talk about democrats, republican, apolitical people. one criticism they have of the president is, we just wish he would stop tweeting. you know, i support x, y,z and a little bit of a pause and then it's i just wish he would stop the tweets. it's kind of ironic, people voted -- they wanted someb
