visit your volvo dealer today and get up to $4,500 in allowances. social media fireworks for the president. congress is on break but there's no conversation for the debate over health care. and the fight over fireworks in virginia should we get more, should we get less. your call. we'll talk about that. but first let's get you going with the jump from bridge gate to beach gate. i like that. that's good music. a lot of people

the beach this holiday weekend, but there was only one that set up a political scandal with his trip to the beach. we're talking about new jersey governor chris christie. media organization actually commissioned aerial pictures of the governor's beach vacation relaxing with family and friends on island beach state park. governor christie, you should have taken your own advice. >> of people sitting on the beach in asbury park, get the hell off the beach and get out. >> that was governor christie back in august 2011 and new jerseyans might have remembered that message because this happened around the time of hurricane irene and they delivered a similar sentiment. they caught video of a plane flying over the beach reading tell governor christie
11:32 pm
the held off high land beach state park. you do you think he could have apologized, he mokd the media. he called into our sister station in philadelphia this morning. >> i told people we had plans to be here whether the government should down or it didn't, we were going to be here because it's our residence. if they actually caught a politician keeping his word, actually being where he said he was going to be and oh, my god what a canned al, he actually was with his wife and his children. and they caught him. really, i'm telling zblu but governor, you can understand though why a lot of people are upset. they can't go to that beach. they want to be able to do what you were doing and they can't. >> well i'm sorry they're not the governor. this is a residence. >> he's a real people person, isn't he? these have been popping up. i've got to tell you the photo shop game has been strong. maybe chris christie

was robinson ccusoe. he woo also have this one. maybe he's leading office after this year maybe he can join the cast. and you see this right here? he says i didn't get any sun today. that's what he told the media. "i didn't get any sun today." then they fly the pictures over, they get the pictures on the beach and they said well, i was wearing a hat. by the way they've reached a deal to end the shutdown and governor christie has agree to the deal. let's move to the president trump he spent the weekend in new jersey as well. he's back at the white house tonight. air force one touching down earlier tonight. even though he was away he did not take a break from social media. all the media outlets that he calls fake news. the president tweeted out this
11:34 pm
here's the thing. that of course is president trump, the guy with the cnnlogo, that's vins mcmahon. you can see the president also tweeted my use of social media is not presidential. it is modern-day presidential. this is something different and very critical right now because he's tweeting as he prepares to visit germany for his first g-20 summit policy. north korea apparently launched another missile so he tweeted this. does this guy have anything better to do with his life? hard to believe that south korea and japan will put up on this much longer. blii the way some of you tweeted me and talked to me on facebook about this. we'll show those coming up in our next block. in the meantime south korea's military reported north korea did launch the missile that
11:35 pm
landed in the sea of japan. obviously a story we'll keep following for you. as for congress, they are on break right now for the holiday but the debate is continuing over health care reform. they are running out of time. there are only an estimated 33 legislative days between now and the end of the fiscal year. utah center mike lee and ted cruz are offering up amendments to the health care plan which is called the better care reconciliation act. it would allow insurance companies to offer some plans that don't meet the regulations set forth in obama care. they argue it would make your premiums cheaper. the key is getting everybody on board. >> there's a big effort to get everybody on board. we owe it to the american people to move in a different direction. obama care has continued to mo
11:36 pm
us. i'm hoping we get the support we can pass this after the fourth of july break. >> meantime the leadership can only lose the votes of 2 republican senators and still pass a health care bill. we hurd some lawmakers say they weren't going to vote for it. there's some wild cards that may or may not come around. certainly not dead. a lot of democrats say it's dead in the water. it ain't dead. you can add maryland to the list of states that won't be handing over the personal information of voters for the white house's new voter fraud commission. there are 29 states refusing to comply with the request. maryland attorney general didn't hold back. there's the statement right there and he said in part, i find this request repugnant. it serves not only to intimidate voters, there's no evidence that the integrity of the 2016 election was compromised by
11:37 pm
we'll go to mississippi now. the republican secretary of state said the commission can go, quote, jump in the gulf of mexico. and this is democratic secretary of state in kentucky on turning over voter information. >> well, there's not enough bourbon here in kentucky to make this sensible. i'm proud that kentucky has led the way, numerous states have followed. not on my watch are we going to be releasing sensitive information that relate to the privacy of individuals, not on my watch are we going to be turning over something that's left to the states to run, elections are left to our states under the 10th amendment to the federal government and not on my watch are we going to be using a system that's an unsecure wbsite. >> grimes a couple of years ago ran against mitch
11:38 pm
we should point out in some states that is publicly accessible information. others say too much to give away. in the meantime a lot of us will be celebrating tomorrow by blowing stuff up. but in virginia your options for fireworks are somewhat limited. sparklers, fountains and pin wheels while lame are legal in the state. but some firecrackers and anything that fires projectiles into the air just flat-out banned. ed gillespie wants to change the law and we went out to see how you feel about fireworks regulations. >> i'm not really sure. maybe, i don't see any issue with them. >> no. we already have enough and they're explosive and they're dangerous and kids are involved. >> yes. as a kid we always would drive to south carolina just to pick up
11:39 pm
neighborhood fireworks show. >> i think the laws that they currently have are fine. i don't think we need anymore that fly in the air and explode. >> do you think that's an important issue when you go to the polls do you care? >> not necessarily. >> there's an awful lot of other issues i would be concerned about. >> not so much. >> no. it doesn't matter to me, republican or democrat. i think the fireworks laws we have are fine. >> timing-wise that works ous. we did reach out to gillespie's opponent. he said in a statement, he likes fireworks as much as anyone but he wants to make sure you can afford health care in case you blow your hand off with that one. we talk about fireworks we talk about beer for the fourth of july. a new law in maryland could have an impact on local breweries. we talked to the head of the brewer's association coming up next on the final 5. next on the final 5.
11:40 pm
11:41 pm
11:42 pm
across the country the stats 2014 it's like a $56 billion industry. so joining us to talk about what's changing and the impact the executive director of the maryland brewers' association. i have a ipa out of laurel. i wanted to make sure we had the theme going tonight. >> happy holiday weekend. let's talk about this. this is a big deal. it's a new bill that
11:43 pm
governor hogan let it become law. tell us what it does. >> it does a few things and it's important also to know how it came about but al i'll start with what it does. it raises the amount of beer a brewery can sell at its brewery. this is the brewery's own beer that it's producing. right now, well, a couple of days ago, the law said that it was 500 barrels of beer a class 5 brewery could sell now it's up to 2,000 barrels. that's a big increase for our smaller breweries. >> what's a class 5 brewery? >> a class 5 brewery is easier to describe what it's not. it's not a brewery with a restaurant. think of it as a production brewery. we've got a bunch in the state, jail break was one and is moving to a class 7 because they're getting in the food business. 7 locks i believe as well. so
11:44 pm
breweries, usually packaging, selling their beer through distribution. but over the years we've had a into it and they've looked for flexibility as well. so the law brings the additional beer to be sold on site. it changes up the sampling allowances a little bit as well. it does allow for contract brewing. this is when a new brewery gets started and even some bigger breweries that have one beer that takes off and they maybe don't have the production passty to do it before july 1st it was not explicitly legal. our state didn't necessarily part of the law. there are some save guards going forward. >> let's talk about -- there's a giant elephant in the room here. one of the reasons that we saw this come about is because guiness says they want to open a giant facility
11:45 pm
county. so it's sort of pittingle way a lot of people are looking at this as david versus goliath. >> they were very clear up front they needed that barrel increase to go up. they had to be able to sell more beer. this is not a start-up brewery opening its doors and have a couple of hundred people on a weekend. they're going to get slammed. so they really pushed to have the law increased to allow more barrels sold. but think of guinness. they have a couple of other brands, they have an expectation to be able to bring those in. so that really began to push the limits of the current system and force some changes in the whole deal that was brokered that in the end we took part in some of the discussions were not in originally.
11:46 pm
one of the things that really hurt the industry and we had to push to keep our current hours. >> what are the hours right now? i know it varies. but what does it change in terms of hours when these places can stay open. >> let's talk about a week ago with the old law. a class 5 brewery had to obtain a local tavern license. we have liquor boards in every county, every jurisdiction. so if you're in prince george's county, you go and get a class d license, montgomery county same thing. and you live by whatever their rules were and generally it was 12:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. so 12:00 a.m. usually during the week, 2:00 a.m. on the weekends. what just the way that the lava cooled here, guinness agreed early on that they didn't need to stay open past 10:00 p.m. they weren't planning to have those type of hours. they were going to be based on tourism. so they gav
11:47 pm
that became kind of a statewide piece of legislation and a mandate in the legislation. and we had to fight to keep basically grandfather in all of our existing brewery to their current hours. new brewers will be faced with that 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. closing and i've already heard from start-ups. >> i'm sure. >> that's going to hamper their business. and we were very active with our start-up members. we have 25 of them. so we're very active with them through the session to make sure they had their voice in, that they were testifying that they were talking about this. and that we committed to them if this truly is going to hamper your business, then we'll go back next year and try to change it. very clear with the legislature with that as well. >> we're running out of time here, i want to switch gears quickly. if you have to tell our viewers at home one beer to enjoy over this fourth of july
11:48 pm
advice for the people at home? >> oh, my gosh. that is so hard. >> it's like picking your favorite child, isn't it? >> it's even harder. a brewery gave me a sample in a can and i almost brought it to show you because its labelless and it's phenomenal and it has no name and no label. so i would say go to your nearest local brewery and try something. the thing with beer is you're going to find something you love. >> i'm going to try this right here. thank you for joining us. appreciate it. happy fourth and i'm going to enjoy this. we're back after this. we're back after this. restlessness... extreme anxiety...
