we have breaking news out of new york city. police department is mourning the loss of an officer shot and killed overnight in what's being called unprovoked attack. police say officer miosotis familia was sitting in her patrol car with her partner in the bronx when the gunman opened fire around 12:30 this morning. the officer was reportedly shot in the head. her partner was not hurt. police say the 34-year-old suspect then took off. officers nearby caught up with him about a block away. they say he was shot and kill after he drew his gun on those officers. >> she was doing the job that she loved as all the men and women in blue as you see standing here right now do every day keeping this great city safe. this is an absolutely unprovoked attack on the two officers. >> officer miosotis familia was 12 year veteran of the force. nypd had recently beefed up patrol in the neighborhood where officer miosotis familia was shot and due to increased gang violence. new york city mayor says he spoke with the officer's family overnight to offer his condolences

other big story at 9:00, tensions rising overnight with north korea. today the united nations security council will hold an emergency meeting at urging of the united states and others in response to kim jong-un late latest missile launch. >> tuesday they test add missile that could in theory reach the united states. japan, and south korea and the united states causing for action today. this video appears to show the launch north korean milestone firing off inter continental ballistic missile. dictator kim jong-un looks skyward as his latest achievement would fly 500 miles before splashing into the sea. the fear this type of missile could go much further even reach parts of the united states possibly carrying a nuclear war head. all of this now triggered an emergency meeting of the un security council later today

>> where are the russians and chinese? are they going to be willing to have additional sanctions on north korea or they just more talk and we have to do this alone? oh and twitter president trump suggest china could do more. but does it have the willingness or the sway over north korea? u.s. military response was a show of force. a joint exercise with south korea firing missiles of their own. but beyond that, military options may be limited in part because north korea is now using mobile launchers not fixed missile sites. >> it really probably nor will good mill tower op tons for the united states. we can try to shoot down missiles before they're launched that risks escalation and may not be even be possible to do it very well if it's a mobile missile launcher. >> un as bore nicky hail system facing backlash this morning for her tweet on the fourth of july clearly upset she was working on a holiday. she tweeted out spending my fourth in meeting all day hash tag thanks north korea. people blasting haley for complaining about her job. last

president trump on aways to pole land to attend the g20 summit in germany. on friday in germany the president is to sit down with russian president vladimir putin. the white house is not saying much about that meeting but top russian adviser says the two will discuss the conflicts in syria and ukraine. critics of president trump say they hope the two will talk about russian interference in last year's us presidential election. no word if that will actually um up. yesterday the president and first lady marked their first fourth of july in the white house. they hosted dozens of military families on the south lawn to watch the show. the president thank the the service members for serving our great country. unfortunately though it was a violent end to the fourth of july in our region. there were at least seven shootings in d.c. and maryland overnight. two of the shootings were de deadly. >> bob bar far has been following this story joins us live from police headquarters in dc in

bob, good morning. >> reporter: hey, allison, good morning to you. busy morning for d.c. police homicide detectives covering a number of shootings including a deadly one overnight on galveston street northwest. we can show you video we just left the scene there where police say a man was shot multiple times around 12:15 this morning on the street in front of an apartment there just off south capitol street. he's just been identified as 46-year-old george denny, jr. police offering a $25,000 reward in this case. they say the look out is for a man who has a light complexion. he was wearing white shirt, blue jeans again this shooting around 12:15 this morning. the unit block of galveston street southwest. just south capitol street. now, at 4:10 this morning just before dawn just across south capitol street on sixth street southeast this morning a man was shot inside his apartment. police telling us someone broke into the apartment, we saw

there we don't believe the man lived alone but he was shot. he made it out on to the street there was a lot of blood on the street there. was transported to hospital. he we are told is going to survive according to police. and there in that case looking out foreman with dread locks as you mentioned. we can show you the we put together the shootings all around the district several in that general area of galveston street, a woman was shot in the hip on chesapeake street southeast. a young man was shot, um, in the shoulder up on w street in northwest. but also down on first street southwest the 3900 block two men were shot around 2:30 this morning. both of them said to be in pretty good condition. so we're not sure if any of these are related in any way but just a busy night for dc police detectives here in the district of columbia but we can also take to you seen in prince george's county. this was in suitland where at about 1:25 this morning a man was shot dead in the

montgomery county and howard county and out along 66 been hanging out along 81 all morning as well what we're looking at a frontal system which dipped down into our region during the day yesterday actually responsible for some of the storms we had late in the afternoon and yesterday evening, and it's just kind of stuck. it's honestly kind of falling apart right across the mid atlantic and we're watching showers kind of propagate along it we'll keep the clouds in the forecast today. keep the threat of showers in the forecast tonight and tomorrow as well. as we're just not going to have whole lost movement here for a couple of days until we can get a cold front to wash everything out of here by friday. high pressure winds out of the north and east that will lock in the pattern for the day today. there's that front hanging out and showers if we can get any sunshine at all i'm not sure this will be problem here in washington but out to the west we may get a thunderstorm going that will be about it later today with showers sticking around this afternoon there we are at 3:00 o'clock. scattered showers. i think if you're going to the game tonight nats game at 7:00, you shall be okay. it will be soggy and rather wet feeling out

art installation dub the hive is taking over the great haul of the national building museum in washington, d.c. standing more than 60 feet tall the exhibit is part of the museum's annual summer block party series. >> we wanted to go high. we wanted to make something that had some monumental tal will the at the but at the same time inside is certain intimacy we did it it's the tallest structure that's ever been done inside the museum. >> it's dome chambers are made from more than 2500 interlocking cardboard cylinders the tubes ranging in size painted silver and magenta. the hive architect says mat jenn a a color was inspired by the mass womens marches held back in january. inside the tubes very contemporary color which connects to current events and fingers like the women's march where the magenta color flooded through the capitol and it was just so inspiring to see everyone coming together in this democracy and having a voice. >> inside the soaring

they never had money in their life. quick way to make money. >> now, dam son tell you about me playing the role of the main character in this. what attracted to you this role and made you want to get involved in this particular project with john singleton other than the fact john singleton is the big name? [ laughter ] >> i booked the role when i was 12 i'm 25 now. it was july 2015 and at the time i was just happy to be working. when we started filming i'll realized out big of a fish i caught working with john singleton and the impact it will have on my journey as young actor going forward. an important story we're tel telling. so definitely very passionate. >> you talk about the passion here. what is it is the take away when people see this on television what will be the take away? we know what again what happened and how how bad thing got during the crack epidemic. >> they got to see it first, but just know that it's
