court. the news at ten starts right now. >> thanks for joining us tonight , everyone. a live look outside. a little cloudily. >> a little bit. it's bren the case all night. i'm jim lokay, that's shawn yancy, our area is still under a flash flood watch tonight. let's get right to gary mcgrady. >> that's right. just so you know we're still under the flash flood watch, but the weather service has actually whittled down a little bit of this. back out to the west they've taken parts of it down but you can still see most of the area this evening underneath this flash flood watch. i think there's still the potential that we could have rain. we've had so much rain already. primarily south of d.c. could potentially cause some problem and rain is in the forecast during the overnight hours and at least through parts of tomorrow as well. this still in effect until 2 a.m. let me show you what's out there now. we have complex thunderstorms down to the south o

eastern sections of charles county. that is kind of moving to the east and to the southeast over the last several hours big thunderstorms running down towards southern maryland. matter of fact, a few tornado warnings came from this cluster of storms which is well down into southern maryland. there was a funnel cloud reported around spotsylvania. no damage reported thank goodness. what we're left with tonight is a cluster, a thunderstorm. there's some lit evening in this . it's in southern sections ever charles county mple it's mostly over the river now. back out to the west of us more activity is forming. it doesn't look like it's going to be intense rain or intense thunderstorms tonight but we definitely still have a chance for some rain and this is the 24 hour doppler estimated rainfall totals. there's been a lot of rain, three, four, five inches south of the city down through southern maryland. for us we generally had oh, close to about an inch, inch and a half, in some spots two and t

north you you go it's been a little bit less than that. the flash flood watch is still in effect until 2 a.m. we'll talk about that coming up in just a bit. so what you're about to hear sounds a little like a tv drama, but it is real life. some maryland volunteer firefighters are freuding with career firefighters. in fact, there is so much animosity they've gotten into altercations at the scenes of emergency calls . fox5's teisha lewis is live in high hyattsville. this is wild reporter roar it's wild and it's real life and this lat est battle took place over the holiday weekend, during the holiday weekend and it all spilled out at the scene of a house fire with a burning house as the back drop. one of those involved included a volunteer firefighter from this hyattsville station right here. this is the second altercation between a volunteer firefighter and

this year and at least one person tells us that they think all of this could get much worse . we take this very seriously, we're not taking this lightly whatsoever. any time you have violence in the workplace that violates several rules, standard operating procedures and the workplace violence policy, is of the utmost concern to everybody in the fire and investigation department. not only did they break rules, it makes the entire fire service look bad. we don't want to be portrayed like that. but here recently with the tension of everything that's going on, this is what's happening. and unfortunately until everybody has a seat at the table and can put their input on both sides i feel that, you know, this is going to be more of an embarrassment for prince george's county, the fire service than it is anything else . so you feel like it could get worse. >> yes, i

>> there are about 800 career firefighters and nearly double that number for volunteer firefighters in prince george's county making it one of the largest apartments of its kind in the country. now we're told the rivalry between the two groups dates back more than four decades. despite both groups responding to more than 150,000 calls, piecefully there are incidents like what we saw on sunday in berwyn hietsz, a career firefighter reportedly attacked a volunteer firefighter while they were both responding to this house fire. even so, the department says it's too early to tell if this incident is due to tensions between the two groups or if this is an isolated incident. we acknowledge that with a large system as we have in prince george's county, as busy as we are, there are still some underlying tensions between career or paid firefighters and the volunteers. >> but why? >> it's the nature of the business. to be honest with you , i've been in

i cannot stand here today and explain to you why tensions continue between the two groups i'd call it a battle of pride. right now with some things that are going when feel that we're being left behind. >> and william cunningham, the president of the volunteer firefighters association in prince george's county went onto say that they blame unfair disciplinary actions, access to mandatory training and also they say that the volunteer department's top brass has been removed from the chain of command. as for career firefighters when we asked them why all of this is happening they say it remains a mystery and insists it has nothing to do with money or funding because that remains the same no matter who responds to the fire, no matter how many fires they fight . teisha lewis, fox5 local news. >> tonight in charles county, the

accused of sexually assaulted boys. the suspect carlos deangelo bell coached at large audience plate oh high school. so far police have identified ten victims. a lot of folks didn't think this would ever happen to us because people consider this as the bad route community. they come back in the afternoons, it has recollect ed havoc in our community. i speak to her on a regular bases on things that is going on at the school, if she has any concerns like that. i can't even express like the hurt that i can only imagine what these kids are going through. and police say that suspect carlos deangelo bell maintained close contact with kids in charles county for years. he was a youth track and field coach for the comets of charles county. he also worked for a

provided before and after school kids at two elementary schools. bell also has hiv. you've watched the stories, maybe even seen it for yourself, the dirt bierks the atvs illegally riding through city streets in large packs. tonight there's some questions about where those bikes coming from. lauren demarco live in clinton with the story. >>reporter: we are live outside of dmv baggers. it's woon of a number of shops across our area that sells dirt bikes and atvs. these vendors are being targeted by thieves. we've reported for sometime about these bikes and all terrain vehicles riding around in packs. d.c. \police\police just release video of a huge group, 54 suspects completely ignoring traffic rules. they were caught on camera on june 25 at several locations. you can see them basically taking over intersections. at times some of them had the wrong way down the street putting other drivers in danger. imagine being on the round as

investigators combed through this video and isolated closeup photos of each of the 54 riders too many for us to go through. but we've posted this online. i've also put a link on my twitter page as well. a large group was also caught on camera riding through the national harbor area. they're seen riding on sidewalks. this is suspected to be the same group that road through the h street corridor popping wheel ohs, office he evers don't chase them , but they are trying to track these riders down and now we're learning that many of these are stolen two and four wheelers. take a look at surveillance video that we just received. a manager tells us that these guys broke into the store twice back in april smash ing a window to get in and making off with a total of ten bikes. four suspects have now been arrested. they're just 15 and 16 years oal. the manager there says this is a big problem . in fact, there are several similar reports from bike shops up and down the east

long time happening but it's definitely gotten worse. it's an epidemic now. we think there's a combination of kids trying to sell the dirt bikes for quick money. they don't have -- they're not tagged units for instance. there's usually no keys with these bikes. that or they just end up on the street being ridden. here at dm v baggers on monday there was a man who was walking around on the roof, somebody called in a suspicious person to police and when they arrived the guy said he admitted he was intending to break-in and steal a bike. now, police use helicopter to l follow these riders and they also monitor for them at gas stations but they're asking for help from the public. they say if you see a large group of them riding they are asking you to contact authorities. live in clinton, maryland, lauren demarco, fox5 local news. >> a lab experiment at the university of maryland sent a student to the hospital today. that student suffered facial injuries from a

reaction. the prince george's county fire department and hazmat team were called to the chemistry building. they contained the experiment with a special hood and no one else was exposed in fairfax county decks are searching for the vanned als who targeted an elementary school. they caused more than $20,000 worth of damage inside and outside oaks elementary back on july 3. they even targeted the newly installed playground. they discovered damage and also evidence of a fire around the building. if you have any information call police. coming up, anything about a tip l california night out at a mcdonald's out west. customers ended up with a ring side seat to a fight. it started out side . billion quos biis headed back to court. the latest on his retrievment we'll be right back.

tonight volunteer firefighters are freuding with career firefighters in maryland. fox5 's teisha lewis is live in hyattsville with this story. >>reporter: jim and shawn we are talking about a freud, a rivalry is seemingly spiraling out of control even as recent as this holiday weekend. a volunteer firefighter claims that he was attacked by a career firefighter. that will play out in a courtroom, but we were able to speak with both sides, the career firefighters tell us that it's a mystery. they don't know what is causing this freud, but the volunteer firefighters have a long list, including what they say are unfair disciplinary actions and more. i whrel dirt bikes and atvs are a big problem across the d.c. region. where are some of these bikes coming from? lauren demarco is in clinton tonight with more on that. >>reporter: we're live outside of

>> it's a little bit breezy. if you had thunderstorms chances are you got rocked and a loft us may have had a couple of showers and we had a descrie evening. everybody is in an uproar about the rain delay that really wasn't a rain delay. i showed them to you earlier. we're descrie here in the city now. the nats game is playing. down here in southern maryland, this has been a strong cluster. one came through, severe even tornado much whats prompted but that's way down in southern maryland. what we're dealing with right now is this yell right here. there's some thunder in it with some lit evening and most of the intense part of this storm is over the river now, but it's still heading to the east, slightly to the southeast. you guys down here in st. mary's county you're hearing it if it hasn't passed overhead it's just about to start coming through leonardtown and eventually it will move on through and

river. in terms of temperatures it's still pretty mild and muggy out there. we're 76 in town. gaithersburg is 73. dulles is 73, manassas 74. here's the deal during the overnight, some scattered showers, maybe still a chance for a rumble of thunder here or there. i don't think we all get wet even though the flash flood watch is technically still in effect until 2 a.m. they may be able to cancel that early if this trend continues. what's the deal for tomorrow? i think there could still be a few morning showers around. it's looking as of if we dry out as we start getting into the afternoon and early evening. tomorrow night as the cold front approaches which will change things for the evening. with the cold front coming in tomorrow evening and tomorrow night there could be another round of showers and thunderstorms before we do eventually dry out heading into the weekend. tomorrow is pretty good again for the afternoon. we're going to be warm, 86- degrees. let me show you a real quick look here at your seveda

federal health officials say the number of people being prescribed opioids mass dropped, but far too many people are still using the highly addictive drugs. >> the amount of opioids being prescribed to americans appears to be going down,

disease control and prevention report finds while the highly addicted drugs were widely distributed in the beginning of the century, the number of prescriptions issued are level ing off. we're starting to see a bit of improvement in prescribing of opioid medications, but we still have far too many getting too much. the cdc looked at the changes in opioid prescriptions on the national and county level between tweaks 2006 and 2015 finding the amount of drugs being prescribed peaking in 2010 . however, in 2015 there were still three times as many prescriptions being written for these medications as there were in 1999. the level of prescrib ing in 2015 was enough for every american to be on opioid medications round the clock for three weeks. location appears to influence the number of prescriptions issued and the cdc is praising states that have taken the initiative to better monitor the distribution of the drugs. georgia now requires

here. one thunderstorms coming through this evening. valley lee is getting a the lot of lit evening and a lot of rain right now. it still does look like the most intense part of this storm mostly is over the potomac . about to head out into the bay. basically the northern extent of this is not too terribly strong. all the thunder and lightning, the real heavy rain is packed down in the end of it. i'm seeing a few showers trying to get out for culpeper. over here in facultative certificate queer county a little bit of light rain and then back to the northwest we go because this has gotten a little bit more organized, a little bit bigger coming across interstate 81 here and bringing some rain into hagerstown. it will come on across and bring some rain for frederick county and perhaps portions of loudon county and i still just think during the overnight hours there's a chance for more of these showers to quom on through. maybe a thundersto

couple of hours to the south of us. that's what's happening to give some aid to these thunderstorms. i don't think anything thunder for d.c. or into maryland. 76-degrees in town. gaithersburg is 72. so is westminster. down here for culpeper and frederiksberg with all the rain they've had temperatures are in the lower p of 70s, but very high dewpoints, very high humidity. so it's quite muggy. overnight temperatures will drop off in a few cases a little bit more than where we are now. but for the most part temperatures are going to hold steady. showers coming in for this evening. maybe a couple of showers out there tomorrow morning. it doesn't look like a big deal but we could have places dealing with a wet commute. ours will stay dry and by 11 or by noon or so tomorrow i think we dry out and we're dry most of the afternoon look what happens by four, five, 6:00. more showers and thunderstorms gathering to the northwest of us

frontal system. so as this front comes through tomorrow evening, maybe a couple of showers and thunderstorms break out along that front. i don't think it's a big deal but we'll keep a close eye on it for tomorrow amp and by tomorrow evening. the front comes through for saturday. temperatures will still be warm in the 80s. saturday is good, sunday is absolutely beautiful with temperatures on sunday only in the lower to mid 80s and we're going to have less humidity. so it looks real, real nice. here's the seven day forecast to prove it to you. eighty-seven tomorrow. again, showers and thunderstorms early and then late. mostly sunny saturday, 89. there could be a slight shower there. a slight risk of a shower, very, very nice on sunday. >> they could have used you tonight at nats park. >> they never called. he's waiting for your call, nats. it's one of the great fill philosophical questions. what is a rain delay if there

rain. they got the chance to responder that question for about three hours. this was the scene at nats park, no rain, but also no baseball. the nats issued a statement saying they had been monitoring a weathers system that was making its way through. the fans in attendance that was no help they had to sit and sit and sit. the fans took to twitter to vent their frustration. kyle williams tweeted that he feels bad for fans who paid. i came from kansas to be held hostage by the nats. brian good man, nine:11 he tweeted this, someone needs to be fired over the delay. mitchell widener, you see it here, the nats quote delayed a claim for clouds. said he received terrible customer service followed that up by tweeting i want my money barks thieves. connor gambia brel looking at the brighter side of things, bull pen can't blow a lead if you never start t
