called buy were true. there was never a letter sent out to to parents, students here in charles county. there was nothing put out by the sheriff's office. this is something that is alleged to have happened more than a year ago in april of 2016. according to charging documents we've been able to look at in the courthouse in la play as well as an department it claims ronald wells attempted to sexually abuse two students inside a closet in the high school in april of 2016. >> this is a photo of ronald wells taken in 2014 when he was teaching science at lakey high school featured in a newsletter. a 17-year-old told on his birthday in april he went planning for a case another student put under his desk in a science class, when he couldn't find it. his teacher ronald wells

the cake was in the supply closet. once inside the closet, the student says wells asked to see his genitals. the student left. the court document filed in the case said the defendant is an adult teacher at lakay high school. the the defendant has due care and custody of the victim due to him being a teacher and the victim being a student. the indictment filed indicates there is a second victim. wells has been on paid administrative leave more than a year and trial is scheduled july 18th. numerous attempts to reach wells and his attorney were successful. case came to slight after the sheriff's office revealed this week it had filed sexual assault charges against a former hiv positive teacher's aide, who videotaped numerous sexual assaults of young boys inside a classroom at stoddert middle school.

this had shocked everyone, it was revealed earlier this week, on monday, as far as releasing information about this case. the sheriff's office a spokesperson there says, they will unaware of the charges being filed. it could be the fact that eight months went by from the time the allegation was made until charges were filed and then the indictment didn't come down until january of this year. as far as the school is concerned, the school spokesperson told us they did not put out any information to students at the high school at the time because it was just an allegation. but then when the indictment came out, they said they also didn't put out any information, they said it just slipped by. so no information went out to students, no information went out to parents, except for the parents of the two who were making the allegations.pso peop about this case here in charles county tonight. in just the last few minutes, we did hear from mr. wells's attorney, tma

maryland. he said quote, mr. wells emphatically denies the charges and looks forward to a jury hearing the truth at trial. the trial is scheduled on is on school 18th. a source believes the theory is it's a retaliatory gay bashing by two students who were disciplined by mr. wells. that's apparently the defense they're going to put up when they say a case goes to trial july 18th. . developing news out of prince george's county. the school volunteer accused of sexually abusing nearly a dozen elementary kids want them dropped. in letter he claims his rights have been violated and he hasn't received adequate legal representation. the judge plans to discuss the issue with carraway at his next hearing next thursday.

montgomery police investigating a rash of purse thefts from area schools. investigators say nine different schools and day care facilities were hit in may and june, the suspect stole purses and what's left in unattended classrooms >> angelie hemphill is live with more on this. angelie? >> reporter: these brazen thefts began during the school year and continued into the summer here ats bethesda they say two teachers' purses were stone and used the credit cards to rack up thousands of dollars a the near nearby store >> we know there's a limited amount of time before these female victims realize my purse or wallet is gone. he knows what he's doing. >> reporter: police want to know if you recognize this man. they believe he's responsible for at least four of almost a dozen purse thefts from local schools and day cares. investigators say they began back in may. when school

session. but the most recent was on june 29th. 11 teachers at nine different schools from rockville to silver springs to bethesda report having what's or purses stolen from attended classrooms or offices. stomp during school hours. police say at three of the schools, the suspect was even confronted and questioned by staff >> he offered a short excuse, very brief excuse, one time he said he was a member of the cleaning crew. one time he said he was trying to locate a summer camp. again, at that point he quickly left the school. he knew people were questioning him and he quickly left. >> reporter: police say the suspect would use the money and credit card as the nearby grocery store, target or best buy. so far, suspect has $500 in cash and racked up more than $13,000 in fraudulent credit charge, which investigators believe will go up. meanwhile, a spokesperson for montgomery county schools tells fox 5 they're working closely with the police to figure out how the suspect gaine a

an uber driver, if anyone has information, give police a call. the follow-up now on that bicyclist who was struck by a car last friday. we have just learned that the victim has passed away. police say burgess johnson was riding a bike when hit by a car at the intersection of 29th and erie in southeast. he reportedly failed to stop at a a stop sign and that's when police hit him and drove off. police are looking for the driver. the victim's family is posting flyers near the scene to encourage witnesses to come forward. >> i think if i knew who the person was, not that i said i would of revengeful but just to give me closure to know there's someone out there and allow them to come forth and say i'm sorry, i am so sorry. i did not know or i did not mean to leave the person. i was -- just some kind of

>> police are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to give them a call. it was sentencing day foreman who participated in violent rights during president trump's inauguration >> dane powell was sentenced to four months in jail and two years of probation, he was seen breaking windows at a star buck, the charges for rioting and assaulting a police officer. in all more than 200 arrested. powell was the first to plead guilty. life without the possibility of parole. that was the sentence in montgomery county judge handed out to uelalio tordil today. he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder last april. they happen the day after tore dill allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife. of prosecutors say he was trying to make a mistake by attempting two car jackings in montgomery county. those attempts turned deadly.

listen, here's what's going on. we'll deal with the heat. it's hot. we're up to 90 in the city. most everybody is at least in the upper 80's to 90. couple spots cooler. leonardtown 86. annapolis is hot at 89. look this is way to the west. there is a severe weather thunderstorm watch goes through into the evening hour, mostly west virginia. coming into extreme western maryland. the reason i'm showing you this, this does not include any of us, but there's talk that this watch could be extended eastward to at least some of our western counties. so in anticipation of that, there's a lot of thunderstorm activity out there. look at storm tracker radar showing all these thunderstorms. these have been very strong and mostly severe coming down through ohio and into west virginia winds being the primary threat here, a lot of wind gusts and damage in the wake of these storms. i read reports of a lot of trees down behind these thunderstorms and you can see how

moving closer to us. there's stale long way away. but the idea is they can hold together come come across the mountains over the next few hours and brings us a chance for thunderstorms. one thing here that's a little bit encouraging -- and they look very strong, they are, but i'm not seeing right now any of these being severe. while they're good thunderstorms, they're dropping a lot of rain and there's obviously wind. at least the severe aspect of these thunderstorms has calmed down quite a lot and i'm not seeing nearly as much lightening in in these thunderstorms, we need to watch them. hopefully as they get closer to us, they will continue to weaken just a bit. the larger picture shows we're dry but continue to track the thunderstorms. there's a frontal system back to the northwest. these thunderstorms fired up along the front and they're moving here but once the front comes through tomorrow morning, it sets the stage for a gorgeous weekend. i leave you there when i come back, we'll talk more about the evening forecast and just a lo,

but definitely there's storms out there and some showers out there. i'll show you radar in a second. hot it's 90 degrees, you just saw the beautiful pictures at the white house, a lot of sunshine out there and there's still enough humidity, the humidity hasn't gone away yet. it's going to taper off tomorrow and then be nice and pleasant, heat index at 92. in or around the region, 86 gaithersburg, 89 manassas, 89 culpeper. back to the west, this is where there's a severe thunderstorm watch in place, big cluster of thunderstorms working out of ohio into west virginia, and southwest earn sections of pennsylvania, also storms to the north of us. there has been talk out of the severe storms labs that they may issue another severe thunderstorm watch that could be into parts of our area, but see this, as it gets closer to his, looks like it pulls out of ohio and into west virginia. it is weakling a little

wind reports we were getting so many of earlier in the afternoon back up here in ohio really tapered off and not seeing anything in the way of severe thunderstorm warnings right now. all of that is good news. and they are forecast a week in quite a bit beforethe eventually line comes over the mountains and gets here. but they're moving in a pretty good speed. give, two, three hour, i think they have a chance to come over into the western neighborhoods. they do look very strong, i promise you, weaken quite a bit, we're still seeing red and oranges, indicating intense rainfall, but the fact there's little lightening now and i haven't seen any severe thunderstorm warnings in last 30 to 45 minutes or, so all of that good news, improving this line is weakening, it was really strong earlier. all elevated off this cold front, the cold front is going to move in our direction and gets here for tomorrow and basically what it will do, is it will sweep away the humidity and leave a pretty nice weekend in

my 7:00, this is futurecast. so we're looking into the future. it may be moving this in a little faster than what we're seeing now, but i want to give you an idea. looks like some will hold together and come on across. it could get stronger late as it sweeps on out. but my thinking is by 10:00 or 11:00, what we do get should be off to the east of us. by tomorrow, we're just talking about a slight chance of showers or storm. here's the evening forecast, by 7:00, we'll be seeing a little bit of activity farther back out to the west and northwest. certainly by 9:00, we'll have showers and thunderstorms around, but i want to dry us out by 11:00. i think by 11:00. what we get will will be east of us, weekend looks nice. front is coming through, there's a slight chance tomorrow that we could have a thunderstorm or shower here or there. i believe the strongest of that will be south and east of us. we're talking upper 80's to low 90's. high pressure builds in for sunday, dry, warm and most importantly on

case last night when a concerned citizen called our newsroom to alert us to the charges. the allegations has been how the there now for well over a year. what we understand when we looked into this is that no information was put out by the charles county schools and no information was put out by the sheriff's office. yet, this was a public record inside the courthouse and it's been that way since at least january. what we know is that ronald wells, who's a scientist teacher at lackey high school and now on paid administrative leave is accused of abusing two of his students inside a closet in the classroom. this is a photo of ronald wells taken in 2014 when he was teaching science at lackey high school. it was featured in a newsletter distributed by charles county schools. according to the documents filed in court, a 17-year-old student told police on his birthday in april of last year, he went looking for a cake another student put under his desk in
