the cracks. a and a burglary suspect led police on a chase through frederick county. the news at 10:00 starts now. we're starting with breaking news off the top coming out of northeast dc, police telling us a one-year-old has been shot in the 1300 block of i street in northeast dc. the toddler was conscious and breathing. the police are searching for the gunman. we'll bring you the latest as it becomes available. the other big story, breaking dulles reagan national and bwi marshall all three of our local airports were at a standstill until about 30 minutes ago. >> because of the ground stop issued before 7:00 that left hundreds, possibly thousands stuck on the tarmac and also at the gates and at the center of the traffic nightmare, the faa washington center in leesburg virginia. construction fumes into the facility control center and they had to evacuate the building. the

handles all high altitude flights >> with no one in the control center, all flights had to be grounded and that, of course, created a ripple effect at airports across the region >> flights delays here means delays across the nation. fox 5 lindsey watts standing by at reagan national. lindsey. >> reporter: it was within last half hour that we got the update from the faa that the air traffic control center in leesburg that had to be evacuated was now deemed safe and operations are now resuming there. we have started to see some flights coming and going from reagan after the hours long ground stop looks like there is a flight about to take off just across the tarmac. be aware, there are still a lot of residual travel issues. delays and cancelations as a result of this. if you're traveling out of any of the three regional airports tonight or tomorrow, be sure to check with your airline. we'll s

skyfox was overhead soon after the faa center in leesburg had to evacuate. it happened around 6:40. there was a hazmat situation, where construction fumes infiltrated the control room and everybody had to get out. in and out of dc out of the dc region, out going flights were grounded. many incoming flights had to be diverted. again, this was reagan, dulles and bwi. we spoke to people here at reagan about what this meant for their plans tonight. >> never get on the plane. >> how long have you been wait >> probably about an hours ago. tried to get there in time to board. there's no boarding. >> reporter: what's next for you now? >> wait till 11:00 12:00, then if not, go back to the city and get a hotel room. >> reporter: stick around one more day >> why not? washington is great. >> i came here to pick up my daughter and

was coming to visit me and i came to pick her up >> where is she? >> reporter: she told me she just landed in philadelphia. so that's where she is, i guess. >> reporter: they rerouted >> she said something about a fire or something here and i said i'm here at the airport and there is no fire. so, just assumed she was kidding me. >> reporter: and we did let her know what was going on. there was confusion about what was causing that situation at the faa center in leesburg. some initial reports that a fire was to blame. we saw quite a few people not quite sure what was going on, looking at the boards wondering what was happening. we're starting to see planes coming and going out. just were aware. this situation has a domino effect all

with delay, cancelations, rerouting, definitely not the night to be traveling out of this region. live lindsey watts fox 5 local news. the district of columbia hire's practices are under fire after the city hired a registered sex offender. adam bryant worked at the department of general services, he's been registered as a sex offender nearly seven years, the paper first reported the story. it was after that that report that the city fired him. the city could have found out sooner. the district's own sex registry lists his name. he was convicted for traveling with the intent to engage that solicit sexual conduct with a minor. kevin donahue sent fox 5 a statement that says, in part earlier, the department of human services initiated a top to bottom review. which is still ongoing of the safety protection and security sensitivity clarification of all district positions and the screening guidelines required. the person in question is no longer

department of general services. protesters inside of the senate offices on monday over republican healthcare reform. for reported demonstrations. this comes as senate democratic chuck schumer said he wrote to image mcconnell to urge bipartisan effort. republicans are hoping to role back the affordable care act programs as early as next week. >> our process options, diminished hope. that is the legacy of obamacare for too many. it's been failing the american people for years. it will collapse around them if we fail to act. >> a total of 80 demonstrators were arrested after refusing to stop protesting. one year ago, dnc seth rich was shot and killed in his northwest dc neighborhood. a gunman shot him as he was

it's 100 degrees, if not hotter. today, we hit 90 at reagan, dulles and bwi 89 of the that's not bad. that is seasonal for this time of year. but tomorrow, we're forecasting 97 in the city. low 90's north and west and with that combination of the increased humidity that you likely felt tonight, it will feel closer to 100 degrees and it's probably going to last most of the week. current temperature, 83 here in the district. 70's out there as well. but when you factor in the humidity, it's pretty oppressive out there and might add feels like 88 that the district. we're also tracking welcome diminishing thunderstorms that have now weakened out to showers approaching the interstate 81 corridor that may have brief gusts to 40 miles an hour as they didn't move into places like woodstock, winchester, eventually to marshall but as they get closer to the metro area, i think if there's anything left, it will be a few showers. not much to cool you there. although at least there is a

of rain out there and tomorrow with our high pressure off the coast, we pump in the heat and humidity a weak trigger tomorrow afternoon, could also mean we track a few more pop-up showers and storms but if you get one you'll be lucky. it will do a good job to cool you off. most will not she thunderstorms, there's a chance here and there they will pop up. more details coming up a little bit later. shawn? >> thank you. several howard county police officers are on routine administrative leave after they were involved in a deadly shooting in frederick county. officials tell us the officers trail a van suspected in a burglary from howard into frederick county. when officers tried to stop the van, the driver tried to run over an officer and that's when the other officers opened fire and killed the driver. a passenger in the van was not hurt but police arrested her. to prince george's county. tonight, we're learning more about the man suspected of killing his stepfather and posting a selfie with the body on twitter.

appearance today, is a judge denied him bond and called him a danger to the community. accused of killing ronald pink knee he was found in the garage of his home in bowie saturday. investigators say beverly has an extensive criminal record. that includes murder. >> as we look deeper into his record and we look at the second degree murder conviction talked about and some of the earlier things that happened in the 2000s and mid to late 90's, those cases did happen here in prince george. both some cases he had and some contacts but because they predate our office by several years, it's all part of the ongoing investigation. >> we also learned that pink knee filed an assault charge against beverly back in february. beverly is expected back in court in october. controversy has been brewing in manassas over what to do with trailer park in disrepair. >> the east end mobile home park deteriorated and

health hazard. the city was looking at shutting the park down that would leave 55 people looking for a new home. supporters found a buyer for the property. catholics for housing. the group is willing to buy and maintain the parks on the families we only have to move. tonight, the city met to discuss. members decided not to vote and said they're going to talk with the group. however that didn't sit well with some >> i'm upset and appalled by this decision, they have no reason not to take this vote. they have a contract between the residents and the city showing they're not going to to save the city for the mishap for last ten years. they could have taken this vote. we a buyer for this property who's going to go in and do all the work they said they promised to do. the city wants them to do, they're going to do it. >> the city also was going t be buy the property but under the plan the mobile homes would be removed. leaving those people with no place to live. >> ahead, four men vanished without a trace >> the fbi join in

father to ask me. are you giving our country away? hoping not. donald trump junior back on twitter saying he would be happy to pass along were he knows about this situation. also to point out that the trump legal team, the outside team, is making suggestions about that lawyer that donald trump junior met with. they're suggesting she may have a ties to a group known as fusion gps, an opposition research firm that has previously been funded by democrats. at the white house, kevin cork. fox 5 news. today, president trump accused fired fbi director james comey of leaking classified information in the notes that he shared. comey admitted he gave his notes about conversations he had with the president to that friend. who then gave the information to the media. legal source tells fox news, comey's conversations with the president are considered government records and some material contained classified information. comey denies a

new tonight friends and family mourning the loss of a new york state trooper. joel davis was approaching a couple's home near the canadian border when justice walter shot him with a rifle he was taken to the hospital where he later died. her friend was also shot but survived. walters was arrested and charged with murder. no word on a motive. form gymnastics larry nass ter agreed to plead guilty to child pornography charges, he's scheduled to change his plea tomorrow. the doctor allegedly downloaded thousands of pornographic images and videos of children. he reportedly then tried to destroy the files when he learned he was under investigation. dr. nass ter has been accused sexual abusing more than 100 former patients including former gymnist with team u.s.s. the men between 18 and 25 years

>> lindsey watts live as the planes are taking off, hey, lindsey. >> reporter: for hours tonight, we saw a ground stop here at reagan, at dulles and bwi. the good news? we are starting to see travel resume. we're seeing planes starting to come and go from here at reagan. we'll show you video now. the problem originated at the regional faa center in leesburg. it handles flights at all three airports and had to be evacuated due to construction fumes. that was in the 6:00 hour. and it wasn't until 10:00 that operations there got underway again. the latest from the faa, they say these are only limited operations now. travelers are told to expect continued delays and cancelations if you're traveling tonight or tomorrow out of any of these three airports be sure to contact your airlines. and several howard county police officers are on

one-year-old child has been shot. it happened around 9:00 on i street. marina marraco live at the scene with information. >> reporter: the investigation now surrounding that one condominium that you see there, we're about a block here of h street, south of trinidad neighborhood. the call coming in roughly 9:00 for a shooting. we have learned a one-year-old boy was shot unclear where exactly that boy was shot. the boy was transported conscious and breathing to an area hospital. you'll see across the street, engine company ten for dc. unclear if they transport that day child. we're still awaiting an update. i can tell you however, dc police searching for two suspects. they've been searching in the trinidad neighborhood roughly an hour and a half. still turned up empty this investigation continues. again, a one-year-old shot tonight here in northeast dc. we're still waiting for an update on the child's condition. jim and sarah? . developing tonight, a glimmer of hope

gorgeous sunset and if you happen to live mere water, you'll find it will be little bit cooler than the 97 we're forecasting for the city. we hit 90 here in the city. dulles and bwi 89. suburban areas may still in the low and mid 90's. but about this will be a heat wave, we expect this to continue all week long, 97 tomorrow, 95 wednesday, 98 thursday, when you combine it with humidity, it will feel like 100 to 105. when do we get relief? the relief is 90 degrees on friday will be in the upper 80's to near 90 through the weekend. that gets us kind of back into the normal range, which is 89 for this time of year. but that's going to be a bit of a hard pull. a lot can't really handle the heat. take a lot of breaks if you can. get to a cooling center if if you don't have air conditioning. we've been watching a line of thunderstorms. this is a complex that has been weakening as it gets closer to our region. as we get

been showers and brief gusty winds along the edge of this gusts to 40 as it's been moving through places like winchester and woodstock. i expect this batch to continue to weaken putting it in motion the last couple hours. you could see how the yellows and oranges disappeared and now just showers, in the western suburbs may see this in the next couple hours before it falls apart. we rinse and repeat tomorrow. the heat index around hundred degrees as our bermuda high pressure is going to be in place supplying all that heat, all the humidity and then the possibility with a little bit of a trigger tomorrow afternoon of a pop-up thunderstorm in a few spots. i don't think that will be widespread but just because it is out there, we want you to be ready. tomorrow's planner with a lot of kids maybe headed for the pool. 8:00 a.m. 81. by noon up to 93. hot and humid. again 95 at 5:00. maybe a couple of stray thunderstorms here and there. watch for the potential for brief heavy rain with that and

again a gust of wind or two. tomorrow temperatures look like this, near 90 be low 90's maybe north and west. to the middle and upper 90's all across our region. for a hot day and again, the possibility of a couple of storms, and when you're this hot, you can't rule out one or two of those being strong. the risks would be pretty low for the severe elements but i'd be watching for the possibility of a gust to maybe 40, 50, and perhaps a little bit of hail although that risk is also low. speaking of the futurecast. i wanted to show you it weakens out the showers at 1:00 and not much after that. at 8:00 in the morning, a mix of sun and clouds as we go through the afternoon, not everybody sees thunderstorms, but one or two could be around and may be strong, they're popping up almost in the same area where we saw tonight's storms. the atmosphere has been seeded for that. wednesday there's the possibility that we'll also watch a few showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon as well. for tonight, 76, warm a few clouds. maybe a
